3/23/24 I like their food but I am here today to speak about how I was treated by the front desk staff. We had a reservation. After checking in and waiting for 45 minutes I politely walk up to the host stand to check the status. I was told there are 3 guests ahead of us. I say ok, then the dude continues talking and says he can't ask people to get up and leave. Totally unnecessary and uncalled. My wife and decided to enjoy our night somewhere else and we were so glad we did. The staff did not care and in fact they seemed happy that we were leaving. All of this without me saying anything. My local Benihana, about a mile away from home. Half my order was missing from a take-out order. I have tried to contact them to request a refund, but no one will reach out to me. Food is pretty good if you eat there in person. I think you are paying for the table experience. Take-out probably not worth it for the price. From the very beginning, the visit was just a mess. We attempted to called and make a reservation per customer suggestion. We were put on hold the moment someone answered the phone. We were kept on hold for 40 minutes plus. Soon I ended up calling back, and someone immediately answered the phone and asked how I could be helped. I asked them if they realized I had been on hold for 40+ minutes. the only answer I received was, "No, my bad." Despite a reservation, we ended up waiting nearly an hour for our table. After about 10 to 15 minutes, and there being about 15 to 25 people still in the waiting area, we were told that they were behind, and that they were short chefs, and grill tables. Good, not to worry! We'd be going shortly, and that it should only be 10 to 15 more minutes! 30+ minutes later, once we were called, we ended up having to share our table for our families triple birthday event with a couple that was having a date. This not only was awkward, because we were not told this in advance, but neither was the young couple that was on a date. Benihanas, why would you think this is ok without even asking to begin with? Our server, was not kind, did not write anything down (which would not be an issue if she didn't forget something, and hand at least one thing out to the wrong person, or bring some other table's side to our table at least once every time) , did not come back often, and very often forgot what it was that we asked. Because nothing was written down, things were often every time handed out incorrectly. Our chef? Our chef was very much like Larry the Snail in SpongeBob I suppose. The remainder of the chefs like SpongeBob... our chef Larry? Lackluster, cooked in silence? Suppose we heard a very deflated "ring of fire".... we didn't even get everything that we had ordered... The restaurant was filthy. Oh? Don't forget that there was an armed guard walking around the restaurant the entire time too. This an awful place to celebrate our family's birthday. We had a party of 8 for Mother's Day. Mom daughter and daughter in law. With grand kids too. Ben was our chef. Funny and good at the theme. The food was great! The service by our waitress was great too. Prompt and friendly. My only issue is the place is messy and sticky. The bar top where we had drink before being seated was vey messy with fruit pieces and sticky spills on the surface. The cooktop eating area. The Chairs were sticky when I had to move one to reinstall a booster chair. Just not wiped down regularly. Oh and they put the menus on the plates you are going to hold your food. Mothers day experience incredibly disappointing. There were 4 servers in our party of 7 so we all know that holidays can be incredibly hectic and we were pretty patient with the very slow service. When we ordered, my husband and I both ordered the Cheautubrand (probably spelling that wrong) steak and mushrooms with Collosal shrimp. Our server told us that she could save us some money by ringing it in differently. That would have been great if it turned out to be what we ordered. She ended up ringing in the admirals feast that actually doesn't have shrimp at all. Our shrimp turned into dry overcooked chicken and a steak that had about 2.5 mushrooms a piece. When I spoke to the server she did say that she would bring out some shrimp but the chef was basically done cooking and we said we were fine but we wanted the chicken taken off our bill. The manager took $15.00 off our $600.00 bill. I don't have a problem paying for my food, but I don't want to pay for what I didn't order and I don't expect to have a server say "well do you not like chicken". I ordered colossal shrimp not chicken. We hadn't been there in years. Maybe it is fine on a normal day but mothers day was bad across the board. Between dry bad food. WOW! I have never been disappointed and appalled with a restaurant. When I walked in I was greeted by someone who told us to wait thirty minutes. We even had a reservation. When we were seated are waiter took eons to serve me water. I ordered steak and shrimp and was met with three shrimp. Steak was raw as shown in this photo. Avoid at all costs! One of the worst dining experiences that our family has had. Where do I start? Celebrating a special event for our family, we chose Benihana due to a memorable experience at a location at Mall of America in Minneapolis. Arrived here looking forward to a similar experience. Walked in - greeted by staff with "Raising Cane's" takeout sitting at front desk (#1) My alert started to wind up after I perused a menu which was sticky and had food residue in the pages #2 and obviously had not been cleaned for a VERY long time. #3 - Armed / Body Armored Security Guard sitting at front hostess location - regretfully I did not cancel at this point. We were seated within 5 minutes (which was nice) however after the server arrived, she was quite brash while informing us that they are running a little behind, however the "faster that you order, the faster a chef would be available for our table". Our party of 7, quickly (thinking we need to hurry) ordered expecting this to help the staff in expediting our experience to avoid excessive delays. Nearly 1 hour later- in fairness we received 1 round of drinks (empty now), had our cup of soups/salads at the 20 min mark. Patiently waiting for attention and hoping for a chef to approach us. I inquired with the manager that our service was seemingly taking an inordinate amount of time. I should add that the grill in front of us was roaring with burnt food residue smoking overly pungent the entire time ( with tidbits of food and paper straw wrappers from the previous guests baking on the sides of the griddle). The manager appeared surprised by our wait time (he had walked by no less than 6x without a glance) and seemed to want to address by moving toward the kitchen. Another 3 chefs depart from the kitchen to other tables, then a chef departs from the kitchen (10 min) with the manager behind. He states that he "stole a chef from another table" to address our wait time (ridiculous after 1 hour wait). Chef quickly begins our presentation, while we appreciate his attempts the food for our entire party was subpar (EVERYTHING tasted like burnt grille/or perhaps our senses were inundated by the emissions endured for the last hour and could not be reversed)? Small errors with sauces while cooking, were dismissed by us quickly in an effort to get through the experience without further delay. Our chef asked if we wanted the fat trimmed from our steaks, we affirmed. He then proceeded to cook the fat separately and asked if anyone wanted "chichirones" after we declined, he asked if we minded if he had them himself, we expressed indifference. He proceeded to add some chicken and onion and cooked HIS meal to add to a tray to eat after he left our table. Midway through service, server explained that there Pepsi fountain had malfunctioned and we would need to select a different beverage. In summary- no one in our party finished even half of our relatively small (compared with previous experience) portions. We ended the ridiculous experience as quickly and humbly as possible, hoping to redeem our special occasion by gathering back home. While we appreciate the efforts of the staff, and we reflected that in our gratuity. I can assure those that view this review, while our bill exceed $500+ total, the experience fell short of even an average fast food restaurant. Almost certainly indicated by the employee's "Raising Cain's " restaurant food container on counter upon arrival. My reasoning for this review is not for compensation nor revenge, but simply a cry for someone in the corporate hierarchy to HELP this location and staff in an URGENT manner ASAP. Based on how many people were standing around we left and thank god, because got a text an hour or more after our scheduled reservation that a table was ready. I should have read the reviews! Our party of 4 had a 5:45 reservation for dinner. We were not seated until after 6:30. Our bus boy was brand new and had to clarify everything. My drink was not what I ordered but I let it pass. We proceeded to wait for over an hour for our cook watching every other table being served dinner. Not once did anyone apologise for the wait or try to make things right. We did not leave until after 9pm. I called the manager, Russ the following day during off hours to address my concerns. First came his flippant apology, then he proceeded to talk over me saying I should have brought up the issue last night. When I told him it was a special dinner and I didn't want to make a scene he told me he would have looked me in the eye and calmly addressed my concerns. What? Complete disappointment! Service was horrible and food was worst. We went here for my son's 13th birthday on 10/21/24. Our reservation was for 5:30pm. We didn't leave until 8:30pm. It took 2hrs of waiting threw cold salty soup to finally get a sloppy chef name, Victor to come to our table. He did no performance. He slapped everyone on the grill and literary threw it on our plates. We were all so disgusted with the wait, food quality and horrible chef. The steak was well done, we ordered medium, the chicken in the fried rice was tough and overall everything was very bland and over cooked. The portions were very small and not what you would get dining in, probably more close to half what you would normally get. The steak and shrimp for two felt like an order for one. The tomatoes in my salad were going bad. I did call and request a partial refund and the manger was very polite and gracious. I want to update this review. Although our experience was terrible - this review helped connect us to the manager who was extremely apologetic. Three of us had dinner in the lounge area for my birthday and the service was abysmal. We weren't even greeted for 6 or 7 minutes and then after menus got dropped off our server completely disappeared until we flagged him down. Then we finally got waters but he didn't come back for another 15 minutes with drinks and we had to ask for them. Then he took our order and almost all of the food came out at the exact same time, including appetizers. The whole thing was a giant train wreck. The food was fine but not as good as it used to be, and for a $300 dinner, I would have expected much better service. The server also knew it was my birthday and made zero acknowledgment of it. Let me preface this by saying I worked in restaurants for over 10 years and I promised myself to never be this person. That's how bad this experience was. My reservation was at 3:45, but we weren't sat until 4:15 because "the chefs are changing shifts." Not a single word of exaggeration - we didn't have a chef cooking in front of us until 5:40, and this is after going up to the hostess twice. We almost left, but it was my niece's 18th birthday and I didn't want to cause a scene. I also felt bad because our waitress was absolutely wonderful. I asked the manager if he could do anything about our $300 bill, and he said and did nothing. Nothing. Didn't even consider taking the sodas from our bill. Not only was our experience the worst I've ever had at a restaurant, the restaurant itself was in disrepair. The atmosphere at a $45 per plate restaurant: a red sanitizer bucket was neatly situated behind me to catch water from the dripping ceiling. The dining area was unbearably hot. I've been to several hibatchi and Korean BBQ restaurants with indoor cooking, and I've never experienced anything like this. The bathrooms were dirtier than a bathroom at Coors Field. My bill for this restaurant was MORE expensive than my New Year's dinner at Matsuhisa. Lastly, I'm white, and the manager was white. When I was trying to explain why this was one of the most infuriating dining experiences I've ever had, I pointed out the ARMED SECURITY GUARD IN A PLATE CARRIER at the front door. This man had on the same plate carrier at BENIHANA THE HIBATCHI RESTAURANT as I wore in the army. When I asked why this was necessary, the manager told me, "because of the type of people who go here." The ONLY people in that restaurant were families - predominately Black and Latino families. After I asked him what he meant by "the type of people who go here," this man actually tried to tell me "it's because of the area." Bro, your restaurant is on Tamarac next to a Target. This is Denver, not Kabul. The only reason I didn't argue my bill was because I was afraid I might get strong-armed by Steve the security guy. I'm being serious. If there wasn't a literal MAN WITH A GUN at the front door, I would have tipped the waitress and left without paying. Do not go here. It is an understaffed, poorly-run, overly expensive Tokyo Joe's with a compulsively unhelpful manager who apparently finds the experience to be SO EXQUISITE they hired one of the January 6 rioters as a hostess.
