Worst dining experience I have had in a long time!!!! My granddaughters 9th birthday dinner. The chef threw a raw egg on my granddaughter's and my wife's clothes! Food's good, but this restaurant is a 2-hr ordeal, even with a reservation. Mt Fuji is better imo, food and all. Came in with a reservation, waited a few mins to be seated. Placed orders, but waited a while for chef to show up. Then cooktime/showtime was pretty long, but he was conversing and cracking jokes, so that was fine. Ordered rare steak, but some pieces were still basically raw. I guess that's the risk that comes with it though. Chef gave me mushrooms but hardly cooked them at all. We had reservations at 6:00 PM for a party of five and arrived about 5 minutes early. When we checked in, we were told the wait would be 15-20 minutes. After that, we were repeatedly told we were "next to be seated," but that never turned out to be true. In reality, we weren't seated until 7:30 PM -- an hour and a half after our reservation time. The lack of honest communication was incredibly frustrating. We could have made a different decision if we had been given accurate information instead of being told over and over that we were next. Once seated, the experience was fine, but the poor reservation management and misleading wait times really took away from the evening. The manager said we could get a discount, but that was also a lie. The total price was VERY expensive for 5 people. The bill was very confusing, they had to reprint it over 5 times, each time giving us a completely different review. Tonight was my wife's birthday, and this was to be a special event for the family as well as the first time we were brining our young child to this restaurant. We made dinner reservations a week in advance, and arrived on time. When we arrived, we were informed that they were 40 minutes late on seating reservations. As a guess, I'd say between 50-70 other people were waiting for tables both inside and outside the restaurant. We spoke with another party who did not make reservations, and they said they had been waiting over an hour. We also spoke with a party leaving who stopped to complain at the host stand. That described their meal as "chaos". We ended up waiting 40 minutes and were told there were still 3 tables ahead of us, and they could not give us an estimate as to when we could be seated. We left and went elsewhere. We would not recommend this establishment to anyone, as this event smacks of bad management. Also and lastly: why does Benihana have an armed guard wandering amongst the guests?!? Chaos must be a regular feature there. read more

I was really disappointed with my Benihana experience in Denver. I was looking for a Hibachi restaurant and, having been to many in Texas and Florida, I had high hopes. This was one of the few (if not the only one) nearby. I ended up sitting at the bar because there was no seating available. If you plan to visit, make sure to make a reservation. The bar was empty, and there are additional seating tables in the bar area. If you're in a crunch or don't have a reservation, I highly recommend the bar area. However, there's no 'hibachi' show, so if that's what you're after, the bar might not be for you. The bartender and hosts were very nice, and I had no issues with the service. The problem was the food--taste, quality, and price. We spent over $100 for very mediocre food. The rice was bland, and the soup wasn't great. Having been to several hibachi locations in other states, this was by far the worst one I've been to. With a name like Benihana, I expected better, but it was a very unfortunate experience. For some friends' birthdays we decided to do a nostalgic birthday dinner at Benihana. We had a reservation for a larger group and checked in 10 minutes before our 7:30 reservation time. We were not seated until after 8pm and staff did not accommodate us with anything for the extended wait. Our waitresses were kind and got all of the orders right. There were some delays or forgetting of requests for sauces or drinks but that is to be expected with a larger party. The chef at my teppenyaki table was not nearly as fun and animated as the neighboring table, but the food was still cooked well. We tried a sushi appetizer but it definitely is something you can skip. The white fish included was tough and we did not finish it. Overall, I think the memories of what Benihana used to be when we were young are better than what it is today. I put in an order at 9:35 that said would be ready at 9:55 Turns out they never even made my order. This was my experience from start to finish: I never eat here and decided to have a pick up order tonight because why not. I walked in and everyone at the front desk just seemed really uptight and dismissive. I told them I had a pick up order and one of the guys just says: "Right there around the corner". Am I supposed to wait in the corner? Is someone gonna tell me how long it will be? Is someone gonna come out to find me? None of that was explained to me. I was hardly acknowledged nor helped. In fact, I was talked to like I was some pesky person and just thrown off to the side. I saw numerous employees just sitting around, talking, and snacking. Avoiding eye contact at all costs. The cooks kept looking over at me and talking/whispering in each other's ears which gave me the impression that they were talking about me for whatever reason. Mothers Day reservations. Resturant was a bit over booked but we were able to be seated within 30" of our reservation which was appreciated. Our son and hi fiancé paid for our meals and we had the added bonus of seeing a business acquaintance and his family and we got seated at the same table. The food was delicious and the chef (Phil) was polite, intuitive, entertaining and did everything in the proper order. He made sure we were all engaged and that he had all the instructions for each of our orders down pat. He kept the conversation going and we were all engaged with him. Also, Erin, our server was excellent. Took our drink and food orders efficiently and and brought refills when needed. Cleared the table to and brought desert and to go boxes. I think the only redeeming quality to this place is if you get a good hibachi chef. I've been twice in the last month and Phil and Jose really made it the best experience. They were fun, interactive, the jokes were on point and Jose last night even let my husband wear the bag and do a flip with the spatula the and egg for his birthday. Came here for my birthday and they refused to honor the birthday gift certificate that THEY sent me because it was Christmas Eve. But on the certificate, it said the only day it can't be redeemed is on Christmas Day. Thọ's place is poorly run and they don't even know their own policy. Worst experience of my life. Had a 7:30pm reservation and they didn't even start cooking until 8:50pm. No water or drink services between initial drink order and mid-dinner. At one point, we had to do all of our own water runs and dish clearing throughout most of our dinner. After our server forgot about the ice cream, we didn't finish with dessert until 10pm (they also forgot 1 out of 3 birthday candles for all of the birthdays at the table). The table next to us was seated after us, and they moved efficiently throughout the entire meal. Someone from the back brought our soup out finally, and she handed it to my son with her thumb stuck in his soup. The chef burnt everything and not just brown, food was black on the bottom. He over seasoned everything with salt, there was salt everywhere. He overseas the rice, it was drenched in soy sauce. He also didn't do any of the traditional tricks. He did the heart with the rice and the onion fire. Nothing else. I'm not sure if anybody said something because there was a 5% reduction on our ticket but no manager ever came over and apologized for the experience. Every meal at that table should've been on the house. It was barely edible and that was $40 plus per plate. The waitress would disappear for long periods so we finally were able to pay at 9 PM. Where do I start? From the time I spoke to a manager as I had a party larger than the 10 OpenTable restricts you to ... finally confirmed for 18 ppl using 2 different reservations where he promised we would have 2 seating areas next to each other. Flash forward to the arrival. 1) was not told the entire party needed to be there to be seated. Ok. Np. 2) 5 minutes into our reservation time called me to threaten giving our tables away (we were waiting for 2 ppl) (no common sense ... willing to give up the bill for 16 ppl when 2 ppl could join in 15. 3) we did end up getting seated ... place was so loud you couldn't hear the special and the lady presenting them was yelling. 4) lady comes to take our drink order ... screwed up several of them...and they took 20 mins to come out. 5) half of our party had their drinks soup and salad before the other half even received drinks. 6) the half with their appetizers literally had their meals started before the other half had drinks. 6) told them one person was vegan they offered to make her food first which was very nice ... but then slathered butter all over her food as they prepared it. Had to start over. Sigh. 7) finally received our food ... lack lustre to say the least ... even those that ordered the waygu steak said it was so gummy they had to spit out every bite. Yikes! Thk u for taking that off the bill! 8) it took 45 minutes to get water refilled. When we finally asked our food preparer where our waitress had disappeared to so we could ask for some wasabi for our sushi or water ... anything ... he very quickly apologized and said it was a management issue that at the end of the night there is usually a melt down on service. One of the table were served and had eaten and then watched our food being prepared. They were ready to leave but had to wait for us! 9) we let them know upfront that there would be separate bills. They said NO prob we will handle it at the end. It took over 30 mins to straighten out the bills!!! We placed a delivery order that included 5 orders of onion soup, priced at $8.00 each. We received 5 VERY small soups, much smaller than we normally receive (we order from them a lot). I called to complain and was told that 8 oz was the correct size for the soup, but that occasionally they use a larger container. We have never received the small containers before. I measured one container and found that there was 6 oz of liquid. The person I spoke to said the other 2 oz is the mushrooms and onions. I checked their website and cannot find anywhere where they display the size of the soup. $8.00 for 6 oz of soup and a small cup of mushrooms and onions is ridiculous. Even more ridiculous is that they would occasionally send more soup! They have excellent food and we understand we are going to spend more for it, but this really feels like extortion. At a minimum, they should advertise the portion size for the soup. Pricing the soup more reasonably would also be appreciated. We are regular customers, both in store and via delivery. I am not going to say we'll never patronize your restaurant again, but it will definitely not be as often. Unrelated, but another complaint. When I called to complain, I got put into two different AI queues that I had to navigate before I was able to talk to an actual person about the issue. The bots were beyond useless.
