Always a family favorite, I'm giving a one star review due to managements failure to address the temperature in the right dining area. The entire family shivered throughout dinner and all the manager and waitress would say is it will get warmer later. The coldness ruined the experience and we were glad when we exited the restaurant into the 49 degree weather. The front desk manager was rude and unresponsive. Chef and waitress were decent and food was ok. Will be breaking with tradition and seeking other venues in the future. read more

They made a huge deal about my daughter's birthday (including the chef), so they get extra points for that. I think the Benihana experience depends mostly on who you happen to get as your chef. We went once before and the guy wasn't that good, but our chef on this most recent outing was great. Made it fun for the kids, got our orders right, and cracked a lot of jokes. The food was good too--the steak and chicken were tasty, as was the soup and the veggies. I really enjoyed my experience, and didn't think the price tag was outrageous either. read more

The worst dining experience ever!!! I will never eat at Benihana again! After making a reservations we waited 20 minutes to be seated and then over an hour before they served us any food items! How long does it take to prepare clear broth? Then our server spilled our drinks, got our orders wrong, and the chef struggled to prepare the food and barely knew how to cut up the items he was attempting to cook. It was laughable at times just how inept he truly was and we were told by the manager that he was his best and fastest! The food tasted terrible as just cooked in butter, charred in some places, raw in others, and to make it worse the chef was curt and rude throughout. We were left hungry, with stomach discomfort later, and very irritated! Go anywhere else!!!!! If I could give 0 stars I would! read more

I really don't see what the fuss is about. It is an overpriced establishment with no real class. The food is average, filling up people around the hibachi and then proceeding towards dinner usually results in a 3 hour long event. Fails to deliver on value to the customer. The servers are friendly but the place is unclean. Table and silverware was slightly sticky. I sipped green tea from a mug until it was empty, only to set the mug down and see a lipstick ring where I was drinking. I WASN'T wearing lipstick that day. I told the manager and she said "Oops, I forgot to tell the dish washer to doublecheck all of the mugs that came out of the dishwasher. Sorry about that." She should have comped my meal for that nastiness, but of course that wasn't offered. read more

Great experience! Great food! Been to this location twice. The entertainment from the chefs is well appreciated by kids.

Our chef, who was nice enough, was about 20 years old and didn't seem to have as much 'practice' at being a teppanyaki chef as one would expect at a restaurant that is kind of pricey and better known for its 'entertainment' aspect than it food. His attempt at juggling utensils resulted in a lot of noise and a near-miss or two with a grill fork. There was no attempt (thank goodness?!) at flipping shrimp tails into his hat, shrimp into our mouth, etc. An attempt at an onion volcano was pretty much a flop (3 levels of onion that had to be lit twice). Even an attempt at juggling a spinning egg ended in a premature scramble on the teppan. I had the Hibatchi chicken and it was just barely cooked through. Other diners at the table ordered filet and scallops and to me, none of the meat looked cooked per the requested done-ness (the chef apparently likes his protein on the raw side!) but the scallops were left to cook too long. Not worth the price -- carryout Chinese would have worked for me! read more

Had an excellent experience here, 09/17/16! We came late at 9:45, but was still greeted with a smile and great customer service. The waiter was very nice and we didn't feel rushed. Our chief, Elroy, was the best part of our experience here. He was very funny, involving everyone at our table. My 8 year old son was very entertained. Food was good, my husband enjoyed their shrimp tempura rolls, and the kids ate all of their shrimp dinner. We have gone to several other Japanese steak house restaurants around the area, but I think this one is a winner! We will definitely come back and will recommend to our family and friends. read more

The food was excellent. Our cook Rufino was wonderful. He was very entertaining. The best one we have ever had there. The only problem we had was the waiter was not very personable. Here's the deal, it's cetainly an entertaining place to have dinner at, but the food leaves a lot to be desiered. I've visted Benihana on two different occasions and both times it's been the same. Chefs have been good for the most part, but the food is extrememly subpar and nowhere near worth the price! The first time going our chef was great, but the second time he wasn't quite as good with the tricks and spoke very poor english. Last time here, the only thing that was decent was the rice. The steak I had came out very undercooked from the way I had ordered and made for a very unstatisifying meal. If you haven't been to a Hibachi resturant before you can do much better than here and probably for cheaper too! I won't be returning. read more

Been holding off on this review as the restaurant manager swore she'd make it right by sending me$100 gift certificate and my Mother would eat free over & above that. Now it's time. Benihana on Mothers Day this year - 7 members of my family decide to go to Benihana in Sterling. We all get seated, a young chef comes out and starts his opening moves with the spatulas. He drops both of them onto the grill, picks them up and starts again with the same results. We laugh a little, wondering how long this guy has been doing this. Turns out, he's fresh out of training. That was REALLY obvious when he KEPT grabbing his knife by the blade end and then used the same knife to prep our food - unsanitary. When he PLOPPED the rice on the grill, it went everywhere - the floor, from one end to the other on the grill, and, my mother's lap! Not just a few pieces of rice, she had a lap full. No apologies. Everything time he would mess with the rice, more went into my mother's lap. We decide to stick it out. The pepper shaker comes out, the chef hits the side of the grill with the shaker, the top comes off, and he literally THROWS the pepper - right onto my mother. Now she has a lap full of rice and is covered in pepper. The chef and the server had a big laugh over that - again, no apologies. My daughter ordered a drink, which was not good at all. We tell the server, she brings her a different drink, but does not remove the first one from the bill. My fiancé ordered a MEDIUM steak. By the time our chef was finished cooking it, the steak was VERY well done. Chewy & not worth the money. When our meal was over, the floor & window next to my fiancé, where the chef stood, was covered in rice, shrimp, pepper...Our bill came to over $400 - my mother didn't want to cause a scene, so we left. I followed up the visit with a message to their corporate office. This is how they 'resolved' my complaint. First, a man calls me a week later, telling me he's the regional manager and he's read my complaint, but he just "can't imagine" that all that happened - I felt like he was calling me a liar. He tells me he will go view the video (oh please do so - you'll see I didn't make up any part of my experience) and speak to the chef & server and get THEIR version of what happened - he would get back to me the next day. That was back in May - still waiting on that follow up phone call. So after waiting 3 weeks for a reply, I sent a follow up email to corporate, just to let them know how their manager acted like I was making up the story and how he "resolved the issue". After a few days, a lady calls me, telling me SHE is the regional manager. Says she viewed the video and apologizes profusely. The chef should still be in training as he was not ready to work on his own, she says. She will send me a $100 gift card and that the next time my mother eats there, she will get a free meal. Last week (we're in July now), I receive a piece of mail from Benihana. The letter is from a man and it states that they strive for a perfect experience for all their customers. Enclosed are 5 $20 gift certificates, the letter states. Only one $20 gift certificate was enclosed. Oh, I searched for hidden pockets in the letter & envelope. No more to be found. I am returning that letter with the ONE gift certificate as I will not be going back to that restaurant. We will not be going to any Benihana. So many other Japanese Steakhouses out there to choose from that provide better tasting food and much better customer service. After reading other reviews on this particular location, I'm surprised that location is still open. Should have read them BEFORE we went. read more

It's hit or miss. You will have a bad chef two out of three visits, but one can be really awesome. This place in general needs chefs to learn their stunts better, and then most importantly know how to cook Japanese teppan. Some chefs cut beef and shrimp too big. They don't know how much soy sauce to be put in rice or garlic butter. I don't want to say that non-Asian does not know how to cook Asian dishes, but in this place at least, non-Asians really don't know such subtle differences they have to cook perhaps by not knowing Asian food in reality. read more

We went with friends for a dinner out. We had all been to other Japanese steak houses before, but never to a Benihana. Our group started in the bar, while waiting for one last person to join us. The frozen margarita I ordered didnt have any ice ... but, MAN I was feeling pretty good after just one $7.00 drink! We were seated and the waiter was very quick to come take our drink orders - sadly, this was one of the few times we saw him throughout the evening. Our chef was WONDERFUL. We were an adult only table, and so the jokes were very much tailored to our group. He was wonderfully interactive, and EVERYONE was able to catch a shrimp! The food was prepared exactly to our liking, and there was quite a bit of it! Payment at the end of our meal was a bit of a mess. Our waiter was not the person who dropped off our check or collected payment from us. It felt a bit uncomfortable leaving a tip and not knowing to who it was going. The prices per meal are significantly higher then at other similar establishments. I ordered the chicken/steak combo for $24.00 and my boyfriend ordered something with shrimp and calamari for $28.00 - our bill ended up totalling $78.00 when all was said and done. I think that for the money, you are better off somewhere like Sakura, but Benihana is a nice, allbeit more expensive, alternative. read more

I love sushi, and I think that the food is awesome, but over priced. When you get one of their coupon promo envelope things, they practically yell at you about what it doesn't cover (i.e. alcohol, happy hour specials, etc.). So we ask to get the happy hour sake and they yell "it's not included in coupon" and we inform them that we know, you already told us... but we would like to get the happy hour sake and pay $3 for it. Slightly annoying. Overall, good if you have $100 to blow on one meal for two people. read more

For my birthday I wanted to try something new. Kids wanted seafood but I decided to try this restaurant instead. Well horrible decision, I felt bad after because the kids were still hungry (I'm talking about a 4,6, 10, 2 twelve yr old girls) after. I decided to buy a breast chicken for 12 year old for $12?? Just a small chicken breast. After we were done nobody show up to say happy birthday to me even though my husband told the girl at the front desk it was my birthday and to the waiter. When the. kids were still hungry and complained to the nice waiter that we wanted to talk to the manager he told us she was aware of this she refused to come to our table to talk to us. Well I decided to talk to the MANAGER. I mentioned this to her and her excuse was "ohh sorry I was not aware" but the waiter told her because I overheard the conversation on my way to the bathroom. I told her I will never be going go back to that place. If you want 5 stars go to Sakura at Tyson. Benihana can't even light a candle to Sakura.. You will end up paying the same but Sakura at Tyson's has better service,better food, NORMAL pirtions, and better timing of food. They actually give a crap about you and your party.. Benihana has not been a place I wish to go to. This time, we were in for a wonderful surprise. Not only was the (female) chef great, and she used a judicious hand with the salt without asking, but the scallops I had were just fantastic and the salmon my partner had was also cooked perfectly. Benihana's has always been a favorite of mine when living on the west coast. We went to this location on Mother's Day and was quite disappointed. The waiter was quite inattentive and rude. He barely listened to orders and he ignored questions related to allergies within our group. He set the tone for the evening and ruined my experience. We had to ask for silverware and drinks our cups weren't refilled unless we asked. Table was not bussed in a timely manner we were still sitting with soup and salad dishes when the chef was placing our main dish on the plate. I have never seen such bad service at a Benihana. Our chef Andrew on the positive side was great and very attentive we would rather have given the tip to him. We were there in excess of 3 hours we have never spent that long in a benihana and my family has taken me for many Mother's days as it was my favorite. Sad to give a bad review when I love this food, but very poor experience last night. The restaurant smells horrible (damp musty dirty carpet smell). Floors/carpeting filthy and worn. Our teppan "chef" was nice but must be new. Very poor knife skills. veg, shrimp and steak not bite size and over cooked. With my $26 steak I received a completely mushy zucchini, half a burnt onion and maybe three mushrooms. Very disappointing. Won't be back. read more

Worst Benihana and hibachi restaurant I've ever been to and I've been eating hibachi for close to twenty years now. Our waitress was so damn old I'm seriously not sure if it's even lawful for her to be working. She was also kind of rude but I'm going to chalk that up to her being 95 years old and also from Japan. I am literally writing this review from the hibachi table we ate at and have been done with my food for a good ten minutes now. We have not seen our waitress or had anyone else come ask us how our food was or if we want dessert, refills on any drinks, or the check maybe? This place is severely understaffed but they're not docking the prices on any of their meals. I would seriously opt for going somewhere else if I were you. Try Sakura in Leesburg or Tysons. Service is much better as is the food. This place doesn't have filet mignon, only New York steak. Their lobster tail was also the size of a prawn. Eat here at your own risk. read more

This evening's dinning experience was especially refreshing when I noticed that the chef at the neighboring hibachi table was a female! Then to my surprise our chef had arrived who was another female! She was awesome and very entertaining! Visited on Saturday night with a 7 PM reservation, waited over 30 minutes. The restaurant was noisy and lobby not set up to accommodate the number of people waiting. Our table for 8 was reset to accommodate 9 - a group of adults asked to be re-seated because of the noise near the table they were originally assigned. Once at the table, the food and service were lack luster at best. For the first time at any Japanese steak house, I asked for salt/pepper. Everything lacked flavor... the salad lacked enough dressing to give it any flavor, the fried rice lacked flavor, my steak had no flavor and was tough. The vegetables had flavor but were served in large pieces. The prime error... The chef put another guest's entree on my husband's plate, after he had been eating from the plate and then asked both my husband and the other guest if it was OK to remove it and serve it to the other guest.
