I would be very comfortable to give 3.5 stars,but 3 stars is not fair. Ambiance is non-existent, this is neighborhood eatery type place. Service was good,despite the server being alone in between maybe 5 or6 tables occupied. Food was nice, everyone seemed to enjoy it . I tried 2 rolls that were really tasty. Poke roll,was basically regular roll topped with beautiful generous size poke of salmon,tuna and white tuna with jalapeño,cilantro, marinated onions and seaweed. It was spicy,tangy and delicious. This has been my family's go to spot for years. The quality of food is very high, no paper thin fish on top of chunks of rice, they have generous portions. Another top spot for me. I absolutely love Sushi Mori. My rolls are always very fresh, they package everything very well and are generous with their utensils that they give with your order. I cannot speak to ambiance as I have only ever gotten takeout sushi from here, but - top tier. It'll sound a bit lame, but their Mori Roll? Phenomenal. Honestly. The spicy, the crunchy, the sweet. It's all delicious. I cannot speak easily power through 3 rolls on my own, from here. Also, excellent miso soup. The broth is quite clear once the miso settles down, the tofu is delicious. Must be new owner under a new name (I can't remember what it was previously called) We ordered a few sushi rolls, a chicken Katsu, fried squid for appetizer, and fried bananas with ice cream for dessert. Sushi is fresh, fried items are freshly panko fried, all delicious. Food came out a bit slow as they have only one waitress on the floor. We weren't in a hurry so it's okay. Our waitress is very friendly, has a great smile and prompt in clearing out our dishes and refilling our water. Great neighborhood ambiance, causal but nice atmosphere overlooking the parking lot. After seeing all the good reviews, we decided to give this place a try. It had been years since we went to this shopping center and were surprised as to how many new (to us) places there are here. One thing we did notice was that Sushi Mori was in the same spot where another long defunct Japanese restaurant once was. Upon entering, we noticed that the decor is very spare but the place was clean. That matters more to me than the decor. We were greeted and seated by a young woman who was our server. She was friendly and helpful. Looking over the menu, we noticed that they also have a Korean menu items. I chose the Tuna Lovers dinner while my husband got the Tekka Don. All entrees come with miso soup and a salad. To drink, I had plum wine and my husband had a small Kirin Ichiban. The plum wine was of good quality. The miso soup came out piping hot and had good flavor. The salad was very simple---just some lettuce and a strand or two of shredded carrot. The dressing was what is typically put on salads at Japanese restaurants. When the main courses came out, we both commented on how attractively presented they were. In fact, a woman sitting at a nearby table asked my husband what his dish was. He told her it was Tekka Don and what ingredients it had. The Tekka Don wasn't the usual presentation, meaning it wasn't in a bowl but rather it was on a plate. However, the essence of this dish remained the same. There was sushi rice topped with a bit of dried seaweed. The tuna was very attractively arranged. We took photos so one could see what we mean. Next to the rice, were a few cucumber slices plus a yellow veggie that looked like seaweed salad. I asked my husband what it was but he didn't know. Also, there was a generous dollop of wasabi and some pickled ginger. He really enjoyed this presentation. We both agree that the tuna was fresh and tender. My Tuna Lovers entree consisted of spicy tuna rolls, nigiri rolls and some sashimi. The sashimi was on a bed of daikon along with a minty leaf whose name I forgot. Of course, there was pickled ginger and wasabi. The presentation was very nice. My husband said that his only complaint was that the wasabi was overly spicy. I told him that others might find that to be a good thing. So...if one isn't into extreme spiciness, use the wasabi sparingly. Absolutely ridiculous experience - not worth coming here. We came on a holiday dinner, so yes we were anticipating a longer wait time and a more crowded space. I called ahead to make a reservation, despite us being only four people. The dine in area was surprisingly not as crowded, so i thought ok good maybe it won't be too bad. From the time we ordered, we waited AN HOUR AND 5 MINUTES before a single food item came out. This was not a michelin restaurant or a course order spot; it's just a neighborhood sushi restaurant. If you knew it was a holiday, use more people. I can see the chefs working as quickly as possible. BUT USE MORE THAN ONE PERSON IN THE HALL AND ONE IN THE KITCHEN. Have someone focus on just the takeout orders. Your dine in customers are customers too, and you absolutely should not be ignoring them just because you're behind on takeout orders. What really ticked me was: Not once did the server come by and give us an estimate or update on the order, nor did they ask for a bit of understanding. They just silently filled our water four times before we asked about our food and THEN they said, "i'll ask how long it will take." Which then proceeded to be another 10 min wait. Owner, if you're reading this.. don't do food service like this. It's terrible for your workers and for the customers. Don't be stingy with trying to save money and step it up on the restaurant experience. Please, this was ridiculous. I chose this spot because the reviews were pretty high but i would not come out of my way to come here for average (and overpriced) food again. There was a few pieces of chicken that my little toddler easily crushed and asked for more. I thought I ordered an adult-sized entree for 24.95? -The tempura vegetables were not cooked all the way through; it was raw. The tempura shrimp was okay. Overall, the batter could definitely use some work. Sorry, my significant other foodie ran a hibachi restaurant and experimented a lot with tempura, so I'm a bit bougie when it comes to the art of tempura. -The beer and sake selection could use some improvement. **COVID delivery only** Due to the ongoing threat, we have only been doing curbside pickup and/or GH+ delivery, so my experiences for dining has purely been from that perspective. Wow - what a pleasant surprise to find this little gem on GH+, my delivery was extremely fast (about 30-40 minutes) from time of order to our front door. The fish was extremely fresh, freshest in my recent memory in the DMV. The portions are relatively large so I was feeling satiated. My preference for sushi is straight forward, I like my nigiri, ditch with sauces and just give me my fish and rice, with some light toppings. This little gem definitely delivered. The entrees were absolutely pitiful -- curry that was way too sweet with zero spice, only 3 pieces of meat in the entire dish, almost all rice (like an entire takeout container of white rice with three piece of meat and a small bucket of sauce to pour on top... it was really sad looking). First time ordering sushi as delivery and was happy with the turn out. The sushi pieces are filling and decently sized. I love tako so of course my fave was the takoyaki, tako a la carte and my husband's fave was the spicy tuna roll. The tonkatsu was a close runner up as well. The only thing that was misleading was on the sushi mori website menu the takoyaki was listed as 4 pieces for 5.95 and if you order on uber eats the menu says 6 pieces for 8.25, not sure which one is correct but we ended up getting 4 pieces and was charged 8.25. Despite that, we still think this place is worth trying out and we would definitely come back for a dine in experience in the future. read more

I can't get good sushi back home so while traveling to the Sterling area I have had sushi almost every other night. This was my 3rd restaurant tried and by far the best. I had the sushi and sashimi combo and everything was so fresh, great quality and taste, presented beautifully and portioned so well! The proportion of rice to fish was just right on the nigiri and the California roll was excellent, and I normally consider it the worst part of a combo like this. Next time I'm in town, this will be the only sushi place I dine at! read more

I've enjoyed eating Japanese cuisine for close to 10 years around MD, VA, and DC. I especially like to eat chef's special rolls. I think this place so far has the most flavorful combination of ingredients I've eaten so far next to some restaurants in MD. I gave the mori roll and salmon lover roll a try and both were amazing. A hidden gem that we finally stumbled upon. We ordered the takoyaki and several nigiris and rolls. Everything was tasty and fresh. I especially enjoyed the takoyaki as most places only put one or two small pieces of octopus in there. We were getting at least three nicely sized pieces in there. Came here for a sushi fix while I was in the area. All of the sushi was super fresh and tasty. We ordered some pork gyoza, a few shrimp tempura rolls, a spicy tuna roll, a bulgogi roll, and 2 special rolls. The gyoza was some of the BEST dumplings that I have ever had before!! They had a few tables outside for your outdoor dining needs. The only thing I was disappointed about was the bulgogi roll was a bit dry and tasteless. Maybe they just need to add a little sauce and it would be better. But it wasn't bad enough to knock a star off. I think this place deserves more credit! Other than that, I would totally be a regular here if I lived closer! Definitely a great choice if you need a new sushi joint! read more
