This was once a vibrant clean restaurant serving great food with a show. Our last few visits have been disappointing. The tables just feel dirty, food is subpar, chefs lack enthusiasm and the prices have went through the roof. Plan on a minimum of $40 per person not including the drinks (Note it's a 4 or 5 dollar up-charge for fried rice). This last visit all the food was over salted, steak was tough, veggies were soggy, burnt eggs added to the fried rice and the shrimp were rubber. Have been here several times over the years, but not really recently, seems like prices have gone up, but that's okay I guess. Made reservations for birthday event for 8 people on a Wed night. Did not work out well, they were short staffed on chefs. They finally got us to a table after about 45 minutes, but that was more to get us out of the way. The wait continued there. Ended up being about a 2 1/4 hour dinner, longer than we wanted with some hungry kids. The Manager recognized it and brought us some "free" tempura. The typical Japanese Steak House experience, the volcano (in this case the choo choo train), the throwing of the shrimp (in this case chicken) into the open mouths of the customers. Had attended a family group dinner with 9 family members for Christmas Eve . We had a early reservation and the place was half full while we were there. The meal and chef show was fine. The food and drink were as good as usual, but the service was annoying. About 3 minutes after our meals were served we were asked if we wanted boxes for our food. Numerous employees would come to the table and try to rush us out. We were there less than 35 minutes and they wanted us to leave before we could finish our meals. There were plenty of other open tables as the place was half full and there didn't seem to be a severer shortage. We have been coming here for many years and felt very displeased with this behavior. If I could give this restaurant zero stars, I would honestly. We made reservations for Christmas Eve dinner on December 13th for 7:30, in anticipation for the holiday rush. We arrived about fifteen minutes ahead of our reservation and were told that it would be about a 15-20 minute wait. Not a big deal and it was the holiday so we understood. 45 minutes later, we still hadn't been seated and when asked how much longer it would take, they told us it would only be another five or ten minutes because they were getting the table ready for us. Thirty minutes after that, we were finally seated after waiting a total of an hour and 15 minutes. But alas, the waiting continued and after minutes of waiting for our server, we left. Maybe next time instead of seating walk-in customers first, Nagoya should review their reservations list of customers and juggle their customers who make reservations versus walk-in customers better. read more

Sushi and hibachi food was all very good and the chef was entertaining for our grandson (typical routine but still very good and engaging). Went here after our local Otani's hibachi closed. Very comparable and highly recommended. Deets below: + Friendly wait staff and chefs + Beef based miso and peanut dressing salad are great apps. + Great flavor with the fried rice + Great flavor with the fried veggies (especially the onions) + Great flavor with the ginger sauce + Filet, shrimp, and lobster were all amazing. - Yum yum sauce is nice and savory but a bit too tart compared to past experiences. Not terrible but doesn't hold up to the rest of the food which was amazing. - It was pretty empty for a weekday evening. When we say we were the only party. Fortunately shortly after our chef started a few more folks came in. A big part of hibachi is the energy of large groups so I'd recommend to bring your own if you're going off peak. - Filet was overcooked for the intended medium, ended up mostly well done. read more

Last night we had the table to ourselves but when it's a full table more times than not everyone talks to each other and makes it a great time. I'd recommend a reservation if you do plan on going. We have been to this restaurant numerous times. We have been before, during, and after the major strain of the Covid pandemic. This past evening was a truly unforgettable experience and in a very bad way. The chef was inexperienced and absolutely all over the place. Food was flying haphazardly all over the table, the meals were completed out of order, and still served late. All of the meats were over cooked and the vegetables were undercooked. It was profoundly unfortunate. Typically, our children devour the food and barely come up for air. They get so excited for the show from the chef and they can't wait for the experience and the engagement. Instead, our young children sat with their arms crossed, judging the food & service. For the most part, when we go to Nagoya, we leave with very little leftovers. Today we all left at least half of the food on our plates and did not want to take home anything. What made it worse was that in addition to poor service and over cooked food, we sat with empty drinking glasses. We were not drinking alcohol and our children didn't have anything to drink. It was truly disappointing & it was a heartbreaking waste of money on what was supposed to be a memorable and special night for our family. Every time I go to Ashburn to visit my uncle, he takes me here. I love hibachi and have gone to many restaurants for it. Nagoya is at the top with food and service. The ginger peanut butter salad dressing is out of this world! Last time we were there we had Karuna as our server, she was great and made sure we enjoyed our experience. Which we did immensely! Super bummed to write this review, but if you care at all about trying to dine indoor safely during COVID, DO NOT come here. This was our go to spot for so many years. We especially adore a few of the staff and have been here countless times, but the concern and safety measures they are putting in place for Covid are APPALLING. I feel bad for the staff. I get it. You gotta keep the lights on and pay the bills. But outside of staff wearing masks, they are literally doing nothing. Packed lobby. Packed tables. Packed house. Much like other reviews, I thought the food was excellent, but boy was I surprised when I got the food - and for 36.00 my Hibachi meal did not include the soup, salad or appetizer you get at the same price in the restaurant. Very disappointed. I mean we already are NOT getting the entertainment value of eating in, so keeping the same price is iffy on that front too. I also got two orders of Sushi and the sushi was very good. I won't be back for takeout unless they lower the price for Hibachi, or start including the salad and soup and appetizer. So my bill with delivery, tip and service fee was 95.00 for one entree and two sushi rolls. I was going to order a salad and didn't because I knew I got one with the meal. There is nothing bad I can say about Nagoya. It is my favorite, and the best, hibachi restaurant in northern Virginia. Hands down! And I can say this because I have been coming here since it first opened! I always judge a hibachi place based on their yum yum sauce. I'm sorry, if your yum yum sauce isn't up to par then I won't be going back. Nagoya's yum yum sauce is ON POINT! All the food served is so fresh and cooked perfectly! Every time I come I order the shrimp and scallops and I have never had my seafood overcooked....not once. I've tried their sushi once, and it was very good, but a little expensive. But that's a given for a high quality restaurant like this. Lastly, the people are always friendly. Once you walk in the door you are greeted and as you're walking out the door everyone says thank you and good bye. Best Hibachi I've had in a long time. We had a choice of fried rice or steamed rice; both were exceptional. The chicken, and filet mignon portions were plentiful, and seasoned perfectly. I've been coming to this place for awhile. They recently started charging $4 for soda water... that's right, carbonated water. They also started adding on a $5 upcharge for an already expensive cocktail, because i simply didnt want simple syrup in my drink. That means I've paid this mediocre joint $10 now to NOT have an ingredient in my drink!! They said they weren't able to take off the soda water when I about lost it after seeing it on the check, so they'd "take care of us" next time we came in... well, chalk that up to a VERY disappointing Valentine's Day dinner. Before I get to the bad, the food was pretty good and the chef did an amazing job. My only complaint about the food was the portions were pretty small. I typically don't eat a ton, but left hungry which never has happened to me before at hibachi. The bad.. after only about an hour into our meal we were asked to leave our table! I could understand if we were sitting there forever and not ordering anything, but we had nearly a $300 bill and were ordering alcoholic drinks throughout our meal. Nagoya is our go to Japanese Steakhouse. We love to come here for special occasions and just regular old dinner. Nagoya was actually the first restaurant we decided to dine at again after we were vaccinated, that's how big of fans we are of Nagoya. This past Monday we decided to go to Nagoya. It was the WORST experience we have ever had there. The "chef" was a disaster. He came to our table, didn't introduce himself, was surly and honestly just gave off a bad vibe. I had seen his prepare a meal for another table and was hoping we wouldn't get him, but no such luck. He didn't even have a name tag on...so I can't tell you who to avoid. I almost wonder is he someone they "hide" in the back to do carryout orders? Anyway, he starts off making the fried rice. Starts "juggling" the egg. No lie this egg goes flying through the air and lands on a child's plate. The kid was horrified. He immediately takes the plate away. Continues making the fried rice, then proceeds to give the same kid fried egg. Ok...bizarre. There was absolutely no show after that initial egg went flying. No fireworks, no volcano, no shrimp toss. When he gave us rice he gave my husband about a teaspoon. Guess that was supposed to be funny, but after he had given each of us about a quarter of yum yum and ginger sauce in our bowls... who knew what he would do. His order was rice, meat, veggies. Again no show just attitude. By the time we got the vegetables we literally got a quarter of the amount we were accustomed to. I'm not sure if this is shrinkflation on this "chef". I was honestly so irritated the entire time cause of his attitude. Like the previous reviewer said the food wasn't cooked like usual. The table was without water most of the meal. It just wasn't the experience you're used to getting. Guess next time we will have to see who the chef is before we proceed to sit down. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. Had a 6pm reservation, were sat relatively close to that and then promptly ignored by the wait staff for at least 45 minutes. The place was full and they were clearly understaffed. The waitresses were only paying attention to tables that already had been served. Drinks arrived eventually and the chef showed up. He turned the heat up as high as possible to cook faster which resulted in burnt food. I have never seen scallops have to be scraped from the flat top in the manner he did. We had to go up to the bar to get our drinks refilled as the entire table was left to our own devices once the original order was taken. Very underwhelming and costly for what occurred. It has been steadily going downhill since it was sold. Look elsewhere for a better dining experience. read more

No bad but when asked for GF soy sauce the gave me light. I had to run up a few stores to Giant, buy my own and came back. Would not trust them on knowing or caring on other food allergies. Everytime - and I've been a couple times a year or more - the food is excellently prepared, the chefs are very skilled, and the show is wonderful. Very large portion sizes with extra to take home, maybe (I've left overloaded more than once). In their menu, combinations entrees, their portions are really small, high prices and the quality of the steak is not good, their chicken is not even breast chicken, but other part of the chicken I guess. The dressing is one of my favs. My son really enjoyed watching the chef chop and cook. Yay! My husband and I were craving for hibachi, and we wanted to try something different. We trekked all the way up to Ashburn and decided to give Nagoya a try! The restaurant itself is at the tail end in a plaza off of Junction Plz. This restaurant was so cute - very cheery, bright, and very clean when we stepped in. The owner was this unbelievably nice Korean lady who greeted us and had us seated right away at the hibachi grill area. Our server, who was new, was named Sunny, and she was very sweet and friendly. Our hibachi chef was Jesus, and he had a great sense of humor, very meticulous, and a great entertainer - he was such an unbelievably sweet guy and our whole dining experience was just plain awesome because of him! It was amazing to see him being so organized and almost OCD in terms of making sure that everything is tidy and kept! Both my husband and I got the Hibachi Filet Mignon, which came with the Nagoya Soup (mushroom soup; the broth was clear and mushroom-focused; I wasn't much of a fan as I thought it lacked flavor, but my husband liked it) and Salad (I absolutely loved the thick sesame/ginger salad dressing as it was very creamy and the lettuce itself was very fresh and cold!) to start off with. The hibachi show consisted of the 'egg roll,' the heart-shaped fried rice, the steaming volcano (always my favorite!) with added 'fireworks,' the choo-choo train, and the shrimp-to-mouth toss (that I always cheat on!). The Nagoya Special Sauce/yum-yum sauce was more on the tangy side, so I was a little apprehensive about that; however, the sauce complemented well with the hibachi vegetable, the fried rice, and the filet mignon. We also saw the sushi chef creating some great plates, so we decided to try the 'David's Roll,' which contained shrimp tempura, spicy crab, and topped with slices of avocado. My husband and I were both huge fans - the maki was presented beautifully, and it was fresh fresh fresh! The taste was great - the creaminess from the avocado, and the large shrimp tempura that it contained with the fresh/vinegary crab salad inside. Yum! We both thought it was one of the best maki rolls we've had in a while, if ever, in NoVA! :D I had plenty of leftovers from the tepanyaki meal, so that was great. I definitely found my favorite hibachi place in the area and would definitely come back here if I ever get a craving - the inviting atmosphere, the super friendly service & attentiveness, solid hibachi fare, and the awesome Jesus - woot woot!
