Philly Roll & Beef Avocado Rolls
    Carol D.

We ducked in here on a rainy night to try a new sushi place. It was a really nice surprise! Food (5/5): Delicious freshly made sushi. The sushi was just amazing. The Philly roll was a steal at $7. The beef avocado roll wasn't inside out (seaweed outside) so it was a bit odd. Service (5/5): The service was great! We got complementary edamame and spring rolls to try. The server was really nice. Ambiance (5/5): This place was so beautiful and nicely decorated. Even though it wasn't crowded on a Tuesday night, it had a nice feel to it.

I just recently started liking sushi. I went in for lunch and had the sushi lunch special. This included 2 sushi rolls, edname, salad and a delicious egg roll! What a deal for $11.95! Service was great and it's pretty inside!

My son wanted sushi after his graduation so we decided on sushi! As soon as you walk in the decor is captivating, A beautiful reflection of Japanese art. Our server was so sweet and very attentive. We were offered complimentary edamame. We came in during lunch hours and they do offer a pretty good lunch special. We ended up ordering the crab salad, rainbow roll, California roll, sweet potato roll, and shrimp tempura roll. The crab salad was alright, I wish there were other elements to it. It was just shredded crab with spicy mayo over. Our sushi did come out in a timely manner and it was delicious! They also offered complimentary egg rolls and little cheesecake desserts. This made my son so happy. I really enjoyed my experience here and would visit again.

A new hidden gem?! *Ambiance: Interior is beautiful! Decorated to reflect Japanese culture and art - definitely great for thise instagrammable pictures! *Food: Sushi was better than I expected! I ordered the Roll Combo, getting the Crazy Volcano Roll and Spicy California Roll, and my friend ordering Specialty Combo, getting the Dancing and Sunset specialty rolls! All for a total of ~$45! We loved every single roll that we ordered! Presentation was beautiful and taste was well balanced. My favorite was definitely the Crazy Volcano Roll. We even got complimentary edamame, spring rolls, and cheesecake cubes! *Service: Service was great! Our server kept made sure we had everything we needed, and even gave us small complimentary items, which surprised us! Big thank you!! Definitely coming back for sure!

Lovely sushi restaurant added to the Sterling area. It definitely has a bit of a fast casual but still very nice restaurant atmosphere. The decor inside was very traditional Japan theme, loved it! My boyfriend and I started off with their miso soup, very delicious. They also bought our complimentary edamame. I loved snacking on them as we were waiting for our food to come out. For appetizer we got the gyoza, fried with pork filling. It was perfectly fried with just the right amount of crispiness. The server also brought out complimentary veggie egg-rolls which were so surprisingly good. I would never order veggie egg-rolls but I loved that it was still pretty flavorful, soft yet crispy. For sushi rolls, we got the Yankee Roll (Spicy white tuna , avocado), Superman Roll (Spicy salmon , avocado) and Earthquake Roll (Spicy salmon, real crab meat , avocado). They were all so delicious, super fresh. I loved that they did not overpower the rolls by drenching it in sauce, where you are still able to taste the freshness and flavors of the fish. They are very generous with the amount of protein to rice ratio of their rolls. To end the meal, they also gave us some complimentary cheesecake bites! Amazing attention to detail and service here!

My family and I came to Yamachen's close to 9 tonight. The restaurant is very pretty, featuring Asian decorations. We were seated at a large booth. The menu offered a large variety of different rolls, including several different types of combos, as well as sashimi combos and hot entrees. We ordered 2 special combos, featuring the dragon, earthquake, Christmas tree, and king crab rolls. The dragon roll was your classic dragon roll - eel and avocado, always a delicious option. The earthquake roll contained salmon, avocado, and real crab. The Christmas tree roll was very unique - a spicy tuna avocado roll with 3 pieces of tuna sashimi and seaweed salad on top. The king crab roll featured shrimp tempura and real crab wrapped in soy paper. Overall, the rolls were yummy but also very saucy. My parents loved them but I thought the sauce was a bit much, the sushi tasted almost creamy. Our waiter was super patient with us and super kind. We were given edamame, spring rolls, and mini cheesecakes on the house. We will likely be coming again!

Love this place! Friendly staff and superb service! The food was also awesome with great presentation. We were given free add ons like appetizers. Love the Japanese decor, too! I will keep coming back.

Ordered take out from here tonight since the wife was craving some sushi. I've heard decent things about this place and was looking forward to trying it out. We ordered 5 rolls, Alaskan, Rainbow, Eel avocado, Earthquake, Spicy Salmon. I'd have say the flavor of all but the Earthquake roll was lackluster. The portions were huge but the taste was meh. I really wanted to enjoy the food here but it didn't hit the spot. I would recommend Passion Fin in Ashburn if you're craving for good sushi. They get 3 stars because of the nice servers that greeted me to check me out for the take out and the restaurant looks nice.

No idea what the top of the spicy tuna is but it's sweet not spicy

Let's start off by saying I was worried when we placed an order for pickup. The guy who answered did not even ask for a name on the order. My husband double checked everything when he arrived for the pickup. It was no surprise they messed up our order. He ordered a tuna avocado and got a tuna roll and avocado roll not tuna avocado. Instead of fixing it and making a new one they charge him for one roll of tuna. That's not what he ordered. Second my order of shrimp tempura came with imitation crab which I have never seen and no where on the menu did I see that. Given I have allergies this is an issue. My spicy tuna wasn't spicy but sweet instead the topping was odd to say the least. Overall this place missed the mark and we will not be returning. They can't even get a simple order correctly.

The dressing was so good. It tasted so much better than the generic dressing at other restaurants.

Yamachen's sushi is a very different kind of sushi place. I felt like it was both casual and just a tad upscale because of the fact that it is a sit down restaurant with beyond average customer service. You are greeted and seated upon entering with a warm welcomed feeling. There are plenty of booths, more than not which I love! I got the 2 roll combo with a side of salad as did my husband. We were given complimentary edamame, eggrolls (so delicious), and cheesecake bites for dessert! I was surprised at how much extra stuff we got and it made our experience that much better! The rolls I ordered were also made so well and the fish was all super fresh. Instead of imitation crab, you get real crab! Overall, we had a way better than expected experience! So glad we came here and will be back!

Spicy Chicken Miso Ramen Dinner as I came at 3 PM which was a little after the dinner hours. It was pretty good. Came with bamboo shoots, seaweed, and boiled egg and the spicy chili sauce on the side. I asked for it on side as I wanted to experience the taste w/o spice and then add it myself if needed. Overall, it was pretty tasty. Nothing outstanding, but maybe my taste buds weren't functioning. It was not bad overall, and was filling as I hadn't a proper breakfast even. I would rate it 7/10. Not bad, and the cost for dine-in was a little over $20, which wasn't bad but not cheap either. For the service, I'll give it a pass. Overall, impressed with this Japanese restaurant and hopefully will be back to try something else on the menu, if I find myself in the One Loudoun area again.

The blueberry mojito was DELICIOUS! The appetizers were pretty tasty too. However, I was not overly impressed with my main meal. I ordered a hibachi combo, the filet mignon and chicken. I was honestly disappointed, the flavors were lacking in my opinion. Service was attentive and portions were decent. Sad to say it, but I do think there are better Hibachi restaurants in the area with comparable pricing.

The food was ok - the chicken and shrimp were done well, but our medium steak request came out well done and underseasoned; the same was true for the mushrooms and chicken fried rice (usually delicious). The filet, in particular, was pretty tasteless without the dipping sauce and very tough; definitely wasted the more expensive cut of meat with that preparation. In addition, we felt like we were being rushed out as soon as the grill was turned off - pressed for whether we wanted carry out containers while we were still eating. We also realized on the way out that we weren't offered the ice cream at the end of our meal that came with it. Definitely didn't feel welcomed. (And for some unknown reason the restaurant cancelled my reservation while we were en route, as I saw in my email after we ate). Finally, unlike other locations I've been to, I was surprised that they charged extra for mustard sauce (much preferred to the mayo-based yum yum sauce) and to have the fried rice be spicy. Seems a little nickel and dime when you're already paying $50-60 per meal. We drove out of our way to go here and would not do it again. I think we would have had a much better experience at Texas Roadhouse or the like.

This is located at a plaza with ample parking. it's not fancy like some of the newer restaurants, in that it has dingy looking furniture that might be a little sticky. The restrooms are not the cleanest but they smell nice. There's a party room that looks like they can fit 50ish people. The 2-page menu is worth a check. We had to ask for the drink menu separately but at like $4-5 a beer and $3 a beverage it's not bad at all. We started out with a lot of appetizers (just to see what they taste like). The app portions are small so it's a safe bet. We tried the cucumber salad, which is a Chinese pickled veggie--tasty! The house salad was not worth the effort. They didn't dry the lettuce so it was just iceberg lettuce in a puddle of water and a ton of sauce. The shrimp tempura and beef dumplings were a hit with the kids. We ordered more. I also liked the vegetable tempura. Admittedly the batter is not as light as it could be, but I'm not expecting premium panko from an AYCE. The shrimp shumai was surprisingly deep fried (rather than steamed) and wasn't as popular (we were just confused). It didn't come with any sauce. The black pepper tuna app was great--lightly seared and well-seasoned (spicy). We also ordered a bunch of rolls, both classic and specialty! We had at least 6 specialty rolls and a couple of classic rolls (my daughter always gets a california roll). The hollywood roll was our favorite! I was pleased by how we could order individual nigiri too! Ordered several orders of Masago and Tamago just for me! The hibachi was a nice snack too! the portions are small so we ordered a couple of orders of the combo and then one of just the shrimp--keeping in mind they always add a lot of veggies! For dessert we had cheesecake and ice cream :)

I read my last review of this place over 2 years ago and chuckled. Even back then (just coming out of covid) I was complaining about these same things - price increase and shrinkflation. And to think I thought $22 for 2 teriyaki chicken meals was too much! This weekend I paid $19 for ONE, count 'em ONE, chicken teriyaki meal, granted with double meat. What in the world was I complaining about 2+ years ago, amiright?! lol Then why keep coming here, you ask? Well, sometimes you have to cave in when the teriyaki craving hits you. We come out to the mall eatery when we're in the area running errands. The eatery has surprisingly rebounded and appears to be reconstituting its offerings although the mall itself, post-covid, remains a sad and sorry shell of its former self. #sadface Back to Sarku...No complaints at all about the taste, freshness and quality of the teriyaki chicken. A container full of sizzling, piping hot and fresh grilled meat right from watching it get expertly grilled right before your own eyes - CAN'T GET MORE FRESH THAN THAT. The "chef" working the grill honestly is a pro. We remember him when he first started wayyyyy back in the day (well before covid) - "apprenticing" under the prev "chef". This guy is good - he apprenticed well lol. He's fast, efficient and knows how to crank out multiple orders at once. Frankly, he single-handedly keeps this place running like a top. (Give this guy a raise....or part ownership of the business because he's the one keeping this place alive and kicking.) So, NO COMPLAINTS AT ALL WITH SARKU'S FOOD QUALITY. Our go-to order now is to order 1 ENTREE WITH DOUBLE MEAT. It's definitely a better deal and IT'S ENOUGH FOR 2 PEOPLE TO SHARE - especially if you're not ravenous. Check out my pic and vid of our double meat order. You'll see what I mean. ANOTHER TIP: no matter that we no longer frequent this place much anymore (due to how expensive it's become for "fast food"), we still keep a FREQUENT DINER CARD on hand and use it when we go/order - it's worth getting a free entree for every 6 you order - so if you're not doing that (especially if you do go here regularly or order multiple entrees in a single visit), get a card from the cashier and start getting your entrees stamped and earning a free meal. The cards never expire and are not location specific so even better if you frequent different Sarku locations. As I said, we don't go out of our way to go to this Sarku or any other location because of how pricey it is. Sarku has continued to steadily jack up their prices AND have made their containers smaller and smaller and smaller (so they can make you feel like they've generously stuffed your box full of food - clever! ...not). Their other menu items might be better value but I seriously doubt it and I don't think I would trust sushi made at a fast food carryout joint anyway. So, for all these reasons, we only go when we're in the area of the mall AND have a craving for teriyaki chicken.
