Brian was excellent Chef and great conversation. I tried to learn to make it at home he gave me great tips.

So, I tried really hard not to make this review but as someone who has been coming here for 20 years I can't keep it in any longer. First lets start with last nights dinner with my wife. I order extra shrip with my appetizer and extra shrimp with my dinner "splashing meadow". Me and my wife were told 10 minutes after ordering we cant do that and she could only ring it up for extra regular shrimp for the dinner ( I've been ordering the same thing for 10 years 4-5 trips a year and never had this complication before). Me not wanting to argue in front of others that I dont know decided to just agree with whatever my server said and try to get on with dinner. Now that the chef had arrived we saw the same subpar tricks by someone who was VERY CLEARLY laking some training. Maybe its just me but when the chef comes out to entertain and does it poorly it ruins alot of the experience but the chef quality has been going down for years so I cant say I was surprised. The chef proceeded to cook and I noticed for my appetizer of shrimp I was shorted shrimp because my chef couldnt count. Before I said anything he said I owe you some shrimp and I said no worries whenever is fine ( that didnt happen). Moving on to my my colossal shrimp it was way over cooked and I noticed that it was put on the grill the same time my appetizer shrimp were put on (now I do t care the order in when I get food or what it is) the issue was he put the 5 orders of chicken out to and some how the appetizer shrimp and the chicken made it off the grill bbefore my colossal shrimp. Now any one who knows how to cook shelfish knows hot grill no slow cooking( because if you bring shelfish up to temp slowy bacteria can grow on it and give you food poisoning which is what happened to me and my wife btw the next morning at 5:30 which is why im now writing a review at 6:00 am on a Sunday). I didn't realize what happened until half way eating my majorly over cooked shrimp what happened and at that point I had eaten it and im not about to bitch about something ate seems kinda BS in my opinion. The steaks were cooked fine and im realizing we never got either of the extra shrimp we order and the chef must of too because after he cleaned the grill he saw another tray of shrimp on his cart ( that couldnt of been cooked during the appetizer like I asked) and immediately cooks it and serves us again. Our mean was also comped with icecream which I got and the scoops just keep getting smaller. Now that im threw with dinner I came home went to bed and woke up in a sweat at 5:00. I got sick and saw something i didn't process over night and it was the shrimp. My mistake for not hold my chef accountable I geuss. I can pay for a 157 dollar dinner somewhere else and not have the morning after experience. The chefs have been going way done hill for 10 years and it seems you need 0 training to cook there. The servers are clueless on taking orders and how to handle them. Im telling you what I want plane and simple. These people are lost I have no idea how this place stays open and the amount of money I spent is rediculous to receive food thats cooked improperly. This is a place that would make 0 mistakes and perfection was the only option now not so much. BTW next time you eat there look at the ceiling tiles you might reconsider where your eating. Maybe it wasnt the shitty cooked shrimp maybe it was the smoke infested black moldy ceiling tiles that have never been cleaned read more

This used to be my go to for every family birthday. The quality and portion size have gone way down. Super disappointing. This was a carry out order. I arrived at the recommended time. The hostess retrieved my bag. As I was walking out, I noticed I only had 2 items when I'd ordered 3. Had to go back. Food taste was bland. My husband commented we should have just made it ourselves at home. All my daughter really wanted was a bowl of the onion soup. Even that was super small and didn't contain the mushroom slices or onion pieces. Sad. read more

We got a worst cook today. This Benihana is hidden in the Keystone shopping mall. We were excited to try this location but was little disappointed by it. For the price though, I thought quality was low. Steak and shrimps were little over cooked I thought. I asked for medium but it was pretty much well done. Luckily taste wasn't too bad. There was pretty much no show through out cooking. Only show was the volcano with onions. I didn't like too much soy sauce added onto fried rice and that's what he exactly did. One thing I really enjoyed was scallops. Somehow that was cooked perfectly. Our cook left us three times while cooking for us. While he was cooking vegetables, he went back and brought out white rice to cook fried rice. Then he went back again to get a lobster. Third time he went back for soy sauce. Either system failed or cook failed. I felt like service was kind of slow today. Possibly because short staffed today. Considering weekday, the restaurant filled up completely by the time our table was done so it looked very busy. I think if you sign up online you can get some kind of coupon. I think it's worth it to come with it. Without it, I think it's bit pricy considering the quality. Definitely it's a popular spot so make sure to make a reservation ahead. read more

For the price we paid, I expected more out of this place. The food was good, but not great. Our chef really didn't interact a whole lot. He told us his name, asked us about our food order, then said bye after he finished cooking. The only thing he did that was slightly entertaining was make an onion volcano . Downside is I saw the table next to us. Their chef did it faster and fancier. He made ours look like a clumsy amateur. On the good side we had a $30 discount because we had a birthday coupon. Like I said, the food was good. Only complaint was our chef overcooked our shrimp. I was less than impressed. read more

This is one of the only hibachi places I will go to, but the last few times I've visited the experience was very bad. First off we made reservations and showed up 15 minutes early and sat down and hour later. Didn't receive drinks for another 15 minutes and both the server and manager forgot the kids menus for the table. Our cook top was filthy. The chef was new and we could tell had no training. The vegetables and shrimp were burnt. Chef forgot about the shrimp and pursued to try to do tricks with the tails so one side of them were almost black. The chef gave fried rice to a person who ordered yakasoba and continued to forget to leave mushrooms off of two peoples orders. Lunch is really the only time it's worth the price. read more

So... not sure what all the negative hype is about here. I thought the experience was just fine. Got seated right away, attentive waitress, the chef gave plenty of attention and was fun to watch. Price is reasonable, not extremely low but reasonable. At a guess, I think people expect more from this place that it's intended to be. This is not some 3 Michelin star extravaganza. It's fun, moderately priced, good food, and a decent show. Critiques? The salad was pretty basic. More unique desserts would be nice. But those are minor things, overall I had a good time. read more

I tried the sushi bar for the first time. The quality of the food was really good. Their main business is the grill area, so it's not busy in the sushi area. It does seem outdated. The food was great, but potions were much bigger than I expected. I just ate the soft shelled crab from the spider roll, that alone is worth the trip. read more

Had reservations at 7 for 4. Didn't get seated till 7:45 and the hostess ignored us every time she went back up to the hostess stand. That was infrequent though because she was off gallivanting somewhere in the back of the house like she was hiding out. At the bar the bartender totally ignored us and wouldn't make eye contact. The manager had to wait on us. The waitress we had once we sat down was sweet. The dinner was tasteless, had no flavor. Got the hibachi steak. The hibachi chef was nice but his show was sloppy and he left out a few of the typical hibachi show moves like squirting saki into the patrons mouth or making the onion volcano (he tried but it was a disaster) The tofu one of our table mates got was not cooked well. It was all soft and smooshie. When we got our checks our table mates' dinner was charged to our receipt as well as we were charged for 5 fried rice as opposed to 4. I had high expectations when visiting here for the first time over the weekend, unfortunately I wouldn't recommend. The hibachi experience was underwhelming, the only interaction our chef had with us was an onion volcano. We signed up for the 5 course meal so that's what we were expecting (soup, salad, rice, veg, & protein) we only got rice, veg (tiny portion of zucchini & onion) and protein. Our portions were so small & the yum yum sauce tasted off. My friend and I did order sushi to share and we both enjoyed that (hence the 2 stars) but otherwise, this meal was disappointing. alll of the food was delicious and prepared by one of my favorite chefs! this community style hibachi grill seats you with your guest and others (10ppl per table). it's awesome to get to watch a show and socialize with new people. you can stay to yourself if you'd prefer. they also have a bar area w/ seating. The only issue i have is sometimes receiving alcoholic beverages that are too sweet which happened when i dined today. they did remake it for me with no issue. i generally make reservations whether dining alone or with a friend as it can get busy at lunch time on weekends. read more

My boyfriend and I went for dinner recently and it was good! Our server and chef were both great. Even with our reservation, we did have a little bit of a wait to sit down and get our food. But the food was good, and I especially loved the fried rice. My boyfriend has to be Gluten Free, so it's nice that they ask about that before everything starts. read more

Decided to have a quiet lunch alone; and when I mentioned it to the host, she sat me in the sushi lounge instead of the main hibachi dining area. Terrible disappointed with customer service. We had reservations for 7pm. on a Mondat night. We arrived at 6:45pm and checked in promptly. We re-checked with the receptionist at 7:15 and again at 7:30 inquiring about our reservations. Finally, we were seated at 7:31pm. It appears we were waiting for a group of 4 people that had not shown up for their 7pm reservation yet. If we hadn't asked we would still be waiting - even though the 4 people were still absent. At about 7:40pm I went and spoke to the manager on duty and asked if we were ever going to get a waitress to take our drink order? The missing 4 guests still did yet arrive either. The response was "we'll get someone right there." Nope, it didn't happen. We decided to leave at 7:55pm. We never had a chance to order any food. Bottom line - hold them accountable for your reservation or leave. We checked with the receptionist when we left and their respinse was simply "sorry". The response was so uncaring I doubt I will ever go back there again. So, you've been warned! read more

Two stars only because the food is good. We waited and waited. I was there today since 2:30 and ended up finally done at 4:30. I had tons of stuff to do today and they clearly didn't care. The guy Gio at the door continued to tell everyone who walked into the door 10 minutes. He was just basically lying to everyone who came in the door. A guy ordered his food and it took 1 hour to get. RACIST!!! I sat there and waited 40 mins for a server. We didn't get a hello, a hi, not even a glass of water. A table walks in with people that are not African American like me and they get served right away. Once I complained again to the manager her yelled at me and told me "bye!" A hot mess! We waited at the table for 40 minutes for our drink order to be taken, another 20 for our drinks to be brought to us. The waiter never cleared anything off the table, took forever to come back to check in us or bring refills, and our checks took 30 minutes to come to us. Two + hours is too long to wait around. My wife and I tried to go to brunch they had open tables no cooks to serve . We then asked to go have food in the non hibachi area they stated it closes as well . We were very disappointed after waiting 25 mins for them to come to the podium just to tell us they were not taking more reservations. This place has really gone down hill. I ordered my favorite soup and it was so disappointing. No flavor or salt it tasted like savory water just nasty. I also ordered Ramon which was horrible they didn't even put the meat in it and the noodles stayed clumped together plus it was far from spicy. The first time I ordered in a long time they didn't have my order ready because they didn't bother to look at it on the computer when it came through. So when I got there I had to wait an hour for them to make my order after already waiting an hour to come pick it up. They need to get it together or they won't last much longer. Update: I've found a way better Japanese restaurant called Tomo Japanese Grill and Sushi! It's across from the Walmart on Keystone around 75th street right in that little plaza. The food is fantastic and the have an hibachi grill you can sit at as well. The customer service is great too. So if you're looking for a replacement this is definitely one. read more

maybe the whole 'glorified' shrimp fried rice thing is becoming played out, but I didn't really enjoy my experience. We had a 6:30 reservation and didn't eat until almost 8. They also sat us under the coldest point of the building where we sat for about 25 minutes before anyone brought us waters. Also the food wasn't too good either, it was dry and the rice barely had butter. Chx was either super rubbery or dry. It was late though, so still go they deserve a chance! I do however appreciate management being understanding and comping. I will say their cocktails are good though! Botulism Beats Benihana Commentary by Sanford D. Horn December 27, 2018 Before dining at the Indianapolis Benihana on Keystone Crossing Road, I strongly recommend committing hara-kiri. From start to finish, calling this an unpleasant experience is an understatement. Having a 9:30 PM reservation, and arriving on time, I fully expect to be seated no later than 9:35. Judging by the absolutely filthy appearance of the floors in both the main dining room and bar, as well as the report given me by my daughter about the ladies room, leaving would have been the right move. Foolishly, we waited. At 9:45 I asked to speak with the manager. Without an apology for our wait, he proceeded to regale me with excuses - a staff member got sick, the restaurant got slammed with walk-ins, and because it was Christmas. We were told our wait would be just a few more minutes. The correct answer would have been to offer us seats in the bar with a round of drinks/appetizers on the house. Or comping us one of our three meals, yet no such offer was forthcoming. Finally ushered to our seats at 10 PM, still no apology from the same manager. The hibachi table, at which we were seated, was not nearly as clean as it could have been, in spite of the fact that the table would reach 500 degrees in order to cook our food. The apron worn by Matt, the cook, was filthy. Does Benihana not provide their cooks with clean aprons throughout their shifts? And his must have been a very long shift, as Matt complained while preparing the meals as to how many hours he worked in the previous several days, how many days in a row he had been working, while going through his shtick flipping shrimp tails into the top of his even more filthy chef's hat. The inside of the top of that grungy hat also included old eggshells. The food was fair, at best, for most of us, except for my wife who spent the remainder of the evening making repeat visits to the bathroom upon returning home. Because we had been seated so late, by the time the cook was done cooking each course and serving us, the time was pushing 11:30 and the waitress who served us soup, salad, and refilled our water glasses, brought us the bill and demanded we pay at once even while we were still eating. I commented that we clearly, were still eating. Jonesha said they wanted to cash out, and thus the rush to collect as we continued eating. During that visit to the table, Jonesha took it upon herself, with no prompting from anyone at the table, to offer an opinion on her animus of President Donald Trump and the border wall. Completely inappropriate. This monologue lasted about two minutes. Upon returning, when just the three of us in our party remained, Jonesha once again took to her soapbox, this time telling us former President George W. Bush was personally responsible for the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 - something she claimed she learned in school. She added that Bush was personally "buddy-buddy" with Osama bin Laden, and this diatribe lasted a painfully long four to five minutes before I slammed my hands on the table declaring that was just wrong. My wife noted that we lost friends on 9/11 in the Twin Towers, and Jonesha excused herself from the table. I held my tongue the entire time, yet remained livid throughout this Twilight Zone experience. Those who know me, know that was the Christmas miracle of all miracles. Not only did we lose friends on that fateful date, I grew up in North Jersey, in the shadow of the towers, and was a working journalist in Northern Virginia, just 10 minutes from the Pentagon on September 11. While that is my personal story, it is actually irrelevant because the opinion of a restaurant worker, or any employee involving customer service is uncalled for. (Even if the server extolled the virtues of Trump, the wall, Bush, etc., it still would have been inappropriate while representing the restaurant.) In relating this story to the manager, and noting I planned to share the entire evening's experience with Benihana corporate, he told me that corporate would merely "bounce this back" to him to handle. While he agreed Jonesha was wrong and would review restaurant policies with her, we left the restaurant completely unsatisfied, with no plans to return again. In addition to the miserable experience, and waste of time and money, Benihana has failed to live up to their advertised "Chef's Table" promotion found on their website. Registering with the restaurant is supposed to net patrons a $30 certificate during the month of one's birthday. In my five years of membership, I have yet to receive even one email providing me the appropriate birthday certificate. Customer service, etiquette, and cleanliness are just as important as the food itself in ensuring the entire restaurant experience are worth of a return visit. Absolutely TERRIBLE customer service! I called in enough time to order a pick up and was denied service. On their website, it says curbside and pick-up are available until 11pm. I called and was told it was 10:30 for all orders. As I began to explain what is on the webpage, the hostess YELLED (no exaggeration) into the phone "NO, 10:30! 10:30! 10:30!" as I was trying to say. After I pointed out how rude she was to interrupt me, she finally let me explain and said "mhmm" as I talked. I am DISGUSTED AND DISAPPOINTED at this. I've ordered here in the past with errors to my order or rude hostess service, but this was the final straw. I understand they're usually packed and busy, but to treat a customer this was is absolutely unacceptable. Many people rave about this restaurant for the food and entertainment they provide. Well my experience wasn't quite the same. We went later on a Saturday evening. The parking was fine, we were able to park within an easy walking distance. We had reservations but still had to wait for our table to be ready. This was surprising since they were not busy. Once we were seated, it took our server a little while to get to our table. She took our drink orders but then it was another 15 minutes until we got those. She took our food orders and we waited another 30 minutes before our cook came over to start our meals. The food, delish! The wait, not worth it! Glad I tried it but I don't see myself being a frequent guest here. read more
