We have used Ben Franklin here in the valley for years. But our last experience with them has really lowered my opinion of the company. Not the plumbers, but the company they work for. Very slimy. First, we had a small flood. Called Ben Franklin to come out and fix the cause of it. At that point they tried to tell us that EVERY SINGLE valve in our 2 year old, built from scratch, home was bad and had to be replaced to the tune of around $10,000. Seriously? Then some restoration company shows up at our home while the plumber was still there without us even asking for it and tries to tell us that we need a MAJOR restoration due to water damage. Again, all crap. Sent him packing, had the house inspected to make sure we had no water damage and of course, we didn't. the restoration company quoted us $80,000 without even blinking and eye. Come on. Third, Ben Franklin sent some company, Mr. Sparky, out to do some free electrical inspection (without our knowledge) and this company tells us our main panel isn't grounded, but he can fix that for $2,000. If Ben Franklin is associating with this company who are clearly just trying to rip people off, I say DON'T USE THEM!!! And even they had dollar signs in their eyes when they were here. They were quoted around $1,100 for a water heater, but after it was installed, the company suddenly claimed the cost was $11,000--a figure that was never clearly disclosed or agreed to. Once the work was done, they pressured my parents to either pay the $11,000 or set up a payment plan. After firm pushback, my parents ultimately paid $2,000, which only highlights how inflated and unreasonable the $11,000 demand was. This felt like a bait-and-switch tactic used on vulnerable customers. Get everything in writing and look elsewhere. read more

They need to change their slogan. Technician missed his appointment window, calling 30 minutes after the window ended saying he could be at my house in another 45 minutes which would be past 7pm. The delay was partially due to him needing a special solution for my tankless water heater which they made note of when I scheduled. We agreed upon him arriving first thing the next morning. Again he left to get this special solution meaning he never bothered to get it the day before. They had me sign up for the membership plan which 2 different customer service reps told me included in house water pressure check as well as a bag of salt for my water softener. All the tech did was the flush of the water heater. I told him I was part of the membership plan and that was a part of it. He called his supervisor who said that was in fact the case and that he would reach out to me on Tuesday to finish the job and bring a bag of salt. I am writing this on the weekend following that Tuesday and there has been no communication or completion of the job. Only reason I called them is that was the number on my water heater. I wish I could be this bad at my job. read more

We called this company because our kitchen sink was backing up. When the technician arrived, he barely spent a few minutes inspecting the issue before telling us we didn't qualify for their advertised drain clearing special, claiming it was "more than just some spaghetti in the catch." All he did was loosen the outside clean-out cap, saw some backed-up water, and immediately said the issue was much worse, quoting us $764 to clear the line. He went on to say that our house was old and implied that the real issue was a bad pipe that would cost between $10,000-$16,000 to replace--without actually inspecting it. He also made a comment about how "this is the problem with buying an old home," which felt dismissive and unprofessional. To make matters worse, he started pointing out our front yard tree, saying it was "too big for Arizona" and that it would cause all kinds of future problems--completely unrelated to the actual issue we called about. Thankfully, we got a second opinion from a trusted plumber the next day, who cleared the line with no fuss, no upsell, and assured us everything was in good shape. Overall, this felt like a clear money grab. The tech seemed more interested in selling expensive, unnecessary work than actually fixing the problem. We won't be using this company again, and I'd recommend doing your research before choosing them. read more

VERY High priced, they give me three options at $1400, $2200 and $4000. Recommended replacement of items that didn't need to be replaced. Had asked technician if it could be adjusted and was told it was blown out. He wouldn't even try to adjust the regulator and gave me a line of how he's replaced plenty of them. Knowing a little something about valves as I worked in construction trades for over thirty years. As I'm a little older now I was going to farm this chore out, but told him I would pass on the repair. Their prices are very high, for example a water pressure valve for homeowner $1400. I could have bought it for $150 to $250 over the counter. I bought a water pressure gauge for $10 checked the pressure and adjusted it to where it needed to be. They tried to charge us 3600 dollars for a typical 40 gallon hot water heater. I argued and got it down to around 3000. Next, they charged us 1400 dollars for a new toilet. Said the water valve was broke too and it would be more money. I argued and they kept it at 1400. They seem to do good work, but they charge 3 times what it should cost! read more

I'll start by saying that I have a solid background in plumbing as a journeyman sprinkler fitter (commercial fire protection systems). I had requested a quote to have a water filter and conditioner relocated in the garage. The distance was about 15' of piping. The job was pretty simple, but I was pressed for time and decided to contract this out. Brad quoted an extremely high price for such a basic task, but I agreed and the work was performed the same day. when I asked if he would be present for the work he stated "I'll be monitoring it." (this did not happen). The 2 man crew arrived unprepared (I had to provide some tools and materials and labor.....2x4's, level, mounting hardware, I had to modify the filter housing bracket, as they had no way to modify the miss-aligned holes in the bracket they provided). The issues: Water lines were installed against the exhaust pipe for the water heater, filter bowl housing was falling off the wall (had to ask them to come back inside before they left), flex line fitting installed cross-threaded, and broke one of my tools. The craftsmanship for the price was horrible, probably the worst contractor I've dealt with in quite some time. Honestly I don't want them to come back and fix this, I'll do what I should have done and correct it myself. I definitely do not recommend Ben Franklin Plumbing, overall the price is astronomical and the craftsmanship is horrible. read more

Over the years I have found that all plumbing service companies are about the same. Pleased to say I just had the best experience with this company. We had a minor issue (condensation drain line filter plugged) with a tankless heater installed about three years ago by Benjamin Franklin. I called to get a service tech out to take a look at about 9:30am - the first positive experience was NO hold time to get a person to schedule the service call. The agent indicated that he was marking the service call as a warranty repair. I was really doubtful, nice "plumber" tactic (right!) - figured of course I'm going to pay out a bunch of money on this anyway. Next surprise was - the agent says they can get a tech out there today - how about 12-4pm? Wow - ok. Post Covid - this just doesn't happen anymore. Everyone is short on staffing still - nothing happens quickly. Next surprise - tech called me - asked if he could come earlier, he finished up with the appointment early than anticipated. Ok - sure - 10:30 am it is. A young man arrives (mid 20's) - polite as can be. Professional. Find out he is a vet - was deployed to Syria. He looks at our drip issue - took an hour or so to resolve it - and yep - no charge. Zero dollar cost. That just doesn't happen with plumbers. Ever. I like the way this company does things and to the tech that came to our home and served our country - well done sir. You are just awesome. read more

I contacted Ben Franklin for an estimate to replace our garbage disposal, kitchen faucet, and drain our water heater. We had already purchased the disposal and faucet. We were quoted $1470. I have some knowledge about the time required to complete these tasks and that charge was outrageous. We hired a handyman who completed the work in a little over 2 hours and charged us $225 and did an excellent job. They were quick to respond and the tech was polite but that hardly makes up for outrageous charges. read more

TL/DR: the pricing is ridiculous, use a local plumber with hourly rates. The going rate is about $250 to replace this part. I was desperate and needed showers. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I can't steer you away from this enough. I called them simply because their number was one the water heater, we have a newer build (3years old). Our water heater stopped working and my troubleshooting didn't work, so I called on Monday night for a Wednesday appointment. I was given a six hour window. The tech showed up at the beginning of the window, and determined it was the Gas valve. Should be covered under warranty, he left to go get the part. Came back about 45 min later, and told me it would be $595. He could not explain why it cost that much. I figured maybe the part wasn't covered... it was. His flat cost to replace was $595... he could offer no explanation. I called and spoke to Rochelle, she was the only good part of this experience, because she knew how to de escalate, and show empathy. She explained that it's a flat rate, no invoice offered, no hourly rate... 20 min later the tech was done. Oh! And he didn't complete his work and had to come back 3 hrs later to fix his mistake. $595 dollars. I had been without hot water for 2days, and my family needed it. This is ridiculous. A joke. TL/DR: the pricing is ridiculous, use a local plumber with hourly rates. The going rate is about $250 to replace this part. FML read more

I picked this company based on their rating and it was clearly a mistake. I had issues right off the bat with the tech giving HUGE amounts of attitude and not showing any professionalism what so ever. I had them come replace my main line and during the process the tech hit my irrigation wiring and then tried to claim it wasn't his problem because it was "outside his scope of work". Apparently even if he caused the issue it requires a back and forth with a manager to get it fixed otherwise it's not their problem. The tech then did the repair and claimed the work done; he had already buried the line before it could be looked at and claimed it was done. After the repair I should have running water right? Nope. I had no water to my upstairs and I had someone else come look at it and they flat out told me the tech had done the valve incorrectly and lo and behold I had running water upstairs. I paid over 2.5k for a job that wasn't even done properly or professionally. They even tried to shift blame on me and had the unprofessionalism to include as a comment on the invoice itself. To top it off, the so called repair looks like it's leaking yet again. I highly recommend AGAINST using this company. If you want the job done right and to be treated remotely decent find some other company because this one clearly doesn't care. read more

A simple 15 min job for the normal person that costs about $40 will turn into a $1,600 replacement job. Scheduled an appointment to resolve an error code on my Rinnai water heater. Ended up with a water conditioner and the same error code. He didn't know how to resolve the error code and wanted to charge me for a diagnostic. Said he'd call when his company had drain filter material, but it has been four weeks. We had a technician come out to service our Rinnai tankless water heater. His name is James and he is a certified tech with Rinnai. He was extremely knowledgable and thorough and performed a complete check-up and flush of our system. He discovered a part that was bad and replaced it right there. We will use him in the future and feel very comfortable recommending him. read more

I received a gift card from my realitor for Benjamin when I bought my house to snake a clogged drain. I already knew what the problem was from an inspection and asked them for a price check to come unclog the tub. They stated there was no charge for the estimate and could make it the following day. Later that day they called and left a message stating that there was a $69 service fee and an additional charge for the snaking of the drain. I called them back and They couldn't give me an estrange or how much a Plummer was per hour or anything and said "it's $69 if you want an estimate of the price to do the work" If I could give them zero stars they would still get one star for at least calling me before holding me hostage at my house. We've used Ben Franklin for years for basic plumbing maintenance and water heater replacements. This week we had a major plumbing issue. A drain pipe started leaking inside the wall and right at the foundation concrete slab. Their plumber, Shade Adkins, did a great job. He was able to repair the pipe without having to tear up the concrete and surrounding tile. He also noticed that when the house was build (20 years ago) this drain was not installed correctly and not up to code. (There was no trap in the line). Called at 4:30pm with emergency (no working toilets) and assured someone would be out between 5:00pm and midnight. . . at 7:30pm I get a call back from the office that they are so sorry but the plumber won't be coming. The same job he was on when we called the office at 4:30pm has now, 3 hours later, turned into something where he won't be coming at all and he did not bother to check in or communicate with the office in that entire 3 hour window. When you are on call 24/7 for emergency plumbing you would think this wouldn't happen. We had our master bathroom remodeled several months ago and the contractor worked with some bathroom fixtures we purchased ourselves. Because the project - especially the shower - turned out so beautiful, we were reluctant to use the shower. Then we had some work done on our outside irrigation which somehow caused a major problem with our pressure regulators. Because there had been so much time from when the project was completed to when the irrigation was worked on, we decided to us a "professional" plumbing company and that is why I chose to call Benjamin Franklin. We had used them before on various jobs and I felt they had been reliable, honest and professional. Because our problem had multiple possible origins, it actually took Ben Franklin four visits to our home to diagnose and to repair it. Christian was our technician and he was amazing. Prompt, professional, and took the time to educate me on the components and the problems. Christian went above and beyond by contacting the manufacturer of our failed 6 yr old hot water heater and getting them to honor the warranty based on our home build date instead of the unit manufacture date. These guys USED to top notch. Now their work always requires another visit (or more!) to get it right. Which of course means waiting around for four or more sometimes. I've had this company over 3 times and I think I'm just done with them. They were continually trying to up sell me for things for hundreds of dollars, one of which I could tell I obviously don't need. They charged A LOT of money for about 15 minutes of actual work. An hour was spent going from my house to the supply place for an anode rod after my call before they even got here was specifically about replacing the anode rod. Then the one they put in for so much money was an inferior material that will probably corrode slower than the heater with the water out here. He pretended to not know what he got and was putting in. Also said he would perform a water test and report that never happened. Waste of an unnecessary amount of time and money. It should have been my sign when I called for a quote and the person on the phone in the office wouldn't tell me anything. The only good thing about all this is they have inspired me to just do it myself next time, I feel so ripped off, and a flush and rod replacement are both so simple. read more

Benjamin Franklin in Phoenix was recommended by a neighbor so I asked them to come troubleshoot my water heater and discuss options. they came out same day and Jacob looked things over and we discussed options and pricing (Standard water heaters vs. tankless). Jacob was experienced, articulate, and answered pro/con questions openly. I decided a replacement water heater was best for us and, impressed with Jacob, asked for a firm quote to do the job. The price came in high, very high. Jacob walked me through all the details and replacement parts they would install (which was good) but I just couldn't justify the price tag compared with others received. read more

I called for emergency service due to a water leak and the water being turned off to the whole house late at night. The lady wouldn't even tell me if they have anyone available in my area without me giving out all my personal information and full life story. That is crazy, either you know where your trucks are and what they schedule is, or you don't. When a person is calling late a night for a plumber they need someone right away and don't want to waste any time. I had already been through several plumbers by now and I mentioned that and still I have to waste 15 minutes giving her a lot of personal details before she is willing to tell me if she can even help. Worthless emergency service. I should be able to give you cross streets and find out if they can send someone out soon and if so when. This is an update to my review. I did contact the company to verify the charge accuracy and discuss high rate. I was called back by a service manager who discussed the fee with me. He was very courteous and patient in going through the charge. The customer service was great and he did work with me to resolve it. I am bumping my review up for customer service; however, I do think that the rates are very high for this service provider. read more

If we could give a review with 0.001 star, we would, but unfortunately one "whole star" is the minimum. Their slogan, "We do it right the first time!" We found out; not even close. We called for emergency repair of a water supply line failure at our home. A tech showed up and offered up a fairly expensive quote. We had had one good experience with BFP, so we thought that their higher cost would result in a superior result and repair. We were so wrong! The tech found the damaged coupling and he became a little confused; he had "never seen" a water line like this one." He "doubted he could find a part" to repair it. The next 7 hours of the day were spent "trying to find the right parts." The BFP parts manager was on vacation, and no one in the office knew where to look. By 6PM, they located a part, far away from us. They started on the repair at 8:35 AM, when we signed their digital estimate! As it turned out, the part they "got specially for our repair," was a "temporary fix only, and incomplete in the package. They could not warrant the repair, because it was improvised and only offered a ten-times-the-cost alternative repair. You should never call this company for any work at your home or business. The owner of the company would not take our calls, and their "customer service" people became belligerent. We are stuck with ahuge hole in our driveway. Do not call company, for anything. For one they were a lil pricey, found out for what I had done it could have cost me around $10,000 but they charged me $14,000. But I had an issue with something they broke when they removed my water heater out of the closet next to my air handler. They broke the flow switch that keeps my air handler from running if the drain gets clogged so it doesn't overflow unto the floor. I've tried calling the service manger multiple times and they won't return my calls to address this situation. Plus there were a few things there tech Daniel did not finish when he was here the last day of the job. I believe he was in a hurry to get home for the weekend. So a few old pipes were never removed and sealed, I still have water coming out of one of the abandoned pipes now and then. I recommend anyone wanting to use this company do not!
