I really hate going to the dentist. The sounds, the dry lips, the sore jaw, potential pain... I hate it all! Dr. Medina really puts my mind at ease. He works quickly and gently and always makes sure I'm comfortable. He is extremely kind and personable, cracking jokes and telling me stories but keep me distracted and preoccupied. Dr. Medina also meticulous and conservative, suggesting least invasive procedures but effective options unless it is absolutely necessary. Dr. Medina doesn't just clean your teeth or fill your cavities, he makes them look like they are a part of your teeth so no one will ever know that you had work done on them. I've been seeing Dr. Medina since 2015 but when he moved his office further uptown last year (even further away from me), I made the mistake of going to a new dentist closer to me. I went for a cleaning during the pandemic. Everything seemed OK at first. They ask you a bunch of questions upon arriving, hand sanitizer is now available, they take your temp, and the support staff is now wearing masks. The staff is very polite and nice. BUT---big but--the doctor only wore a mask during treatment, not when in the treatment room, close at hand, conversing with me. The mask that he did wear was not an N95 but a a regular surgical mask. I asked him about not wearing a mask in the treatment room and he made some reference to how all the surfaces were clean. But that was not the point obviously. I am at high risk for COVID-19 and I am disgusted with him for taking such a cavalier attitude toward my safety. I have been to other doctors and ALL wore N-95s. Every single one. I had an appointment with another doctor after seeing Medina and he was shocked. He told me he wore a mask except when in his own office. And he's not in a business where people's spit is flying at you. On top of that he was rough and hasty during the cleaning, cutting into my gum during the treatment and causing a little bleeding later. He rushed through it, and while I had the stuff in my mouth he rudely harangued me on how he "didn't like being rushed." Hello? All I did was ask his staff when I made the appointment if I could make an another appointment two hours later. I didn't have to wait so there was no issue. He's done that in the past---airing grievances while you're in the chair and can't respond. I'd had my doubts about him in the past --- the lack of a spit sink didn't thrill me either---and now I am done with him. read more

He was extremely attentive throughout the appointment -- resolving my questions and concerns, while also offering a good deal of extra information particular to my situation. In the past, I've felt like dentists were trying to upsell me on things like unnecessary fillings. With Dr. Medina, it was the exact opposite. He discussed exactly what was covered by my plan, didn't try to tack on anything additional, and even advised against an expensive jaw surgery another dentist had suggested. But the doctor was very patient, friendly and fast! He explained every procedure and even went above and beyond by applying a topical anesthetic to help with my gum sensitivity. Let me start by saying that I am terrified of the dentist. My initial visit with Dr. Medina was an outstanding experience. I have an extreme dental phobia. I was crying! Dr. Medina and his Office Manager, Grace could not have been more comforting and compassionate. My last dentist had no bedside manner and his staff was extremely rude, inappropriate, and greedy. Dr. Medina and his staff clearly take pride in their work. They go out of their way to make sure you are completely comfortable with the treatment plan and the finances involved. I have already shared his information with most of my friends and family. Dr. Medina was actually trying to help me save money by coming up with multiple options for my treatment. I had three teeth pulled and Dr. Medina talked to me throughout the entire procedure. 1) to update me technically on what he was doing and, 2) about random topics to keep my mind busy and to keep me entertained as he knew that I was petrified. He even sang Disney tunes. Dr. Medina scheduled my procedure for 2 hours. Although, it only took 1 hour. Moments after I left his office my prescription for antibiotics was already ready for pick-up at my pharmacy. Dr. Medina and his team are meticulous, extremely compassionate, and professional. I waited for approximately 30 minutes to be seen. The treatment itself, a teeth cleaning was about 10 minutes or less. It was very rough, not thorough, and totally unpleasant. I wouldn't recommend it. Also the room was a bit unclean, the trash was overflowing and the sink to rinse was not clean.
