Well, color me impressed. I first caught wind of this bakery through their Instagram page a few months ago. I'm somewhat of a milk tea fanatic so I was excited to see a variety of boba drinks teased at along with some mouthwatering croissants. I wasn't very confident this place would live up to the hype, but I was legitimately shocked to discover it does. First off, it was crowded as hell when we arrived grand opening day. They must've proclaimed some sort of siren call to the entire Asian populace cause there were certainly a lot of us there. Anyway, the pickings were understandably slim so we opted for a (cinnamon?) sugar dusted croissant. And it was pure, buttery bliss. Flaky and delicate perfection. They also serve bagels made fresh daily but unfortunately they were out. We also wanted to see how their milk tea would measure up. I asked whether they use real tea in their classic version and I was happy to learn they do, at least for that particular drink. And it was great. Not too sweet and the tapioca pearls had a great, chewy texture with a nice, clean flavor. Suffice it to say, I'll be back for more. I'm especially curious as to how their bahn mis are. I haven't lived in Anchorage in over a year, but I have to come on here and let everyone know they must go to Benji's! This is one of those places that makes me miss living in Anchorage. I used to go on Sundays and load up. I'd order the roasted chicken banh mi, chowder, boba tea, and some pastries and be set for a couple days. I have never had a banh mi that tasted as good as theirs. Seasoned so perfectly, the vegetables are fresh, and the bread omg!! It was my first time going to the actual bakery this time! If you're from AK, you know this has been the crowd favorite lately. This unique, creative bakery has been trending locally and there's no surprise as to why. People rave about their baked goods, and trust me, they're something to rave about! This time, I decided to try their Banh Mi and milk tea. They have a number of items that you can try depending on what type of mood you're in. My boyfriend got the Chicken Banh Mi with the "Peach Don't Kill My Vibe" tea favorite. As for me, I settled on a Roasted Pork Banh Mi with a Strawberry Lychee Milk Tea. The bun they make the Banh Mi with must be made in their bakery because it tasted fresh out of the oven. The flavors in the Banh Mi are what you would expect, except their meat is well seasoned and packed with flavor! They had an excellent meat to veggie to bread ratio, so that with each bite you get a little of everything. As for the drink selection, they have a great selection of Milk Teas, boba "slushees" which are equivalent to a blended boba drink, and they also have a menu of favorite teas that are fun concoctions that customers favor! My Milk Tea was delicious and the "Peach Don't Kill My Vibe" drink was good, but it was more on the sweeter side of things so be cautious if you're not too keen on sweet sweet drinks. Come here for amazing food and drinks. We tried the pistachio croissant which was flaky, sweet and delicious. We also enjoyed the roasted pork Banh Mi. The bread was fresh, the fillings were fresh and flavorful. In addition to the food, we also had the classic milk tea with boba. The tea was so good and sweet with excellent chewy boba. What a creative bakery in Anchorage. The options were almost overwhelming, you'll likely step out with more pastries than you thought! I loved the "cruffin" concept. Anything missed with the perfection of a croissant, I'll be there for. The ube roll was delicious too. One star less because their milk tea was horribly watered down. I know they aren't a bubble tea place but still. Would go back for their pastries for sure. read more

Yes. Yes to everything on their menu. I haven't had a chance to completely go through the whole menu yet, but I see myself being a regular here. You know it's going to be a good place when you see the majority of Asians in Anchorage at this one location. I stopped by Saturday around noon, and it wasn't too long of a line. I picked up a cinnamon sugar cruffin (croissant/muffin) and a "peach don't kill my vibe" tea. The cruffin tasted like a fluffy churro, and the tea was perfectly sweetened. Not too sweet, but also not too bitter; they definitely have the recipe perfected on their teas. Went back today after lunch at Phonatik, and I got the Borealis tea and the Lychee long time tea (yes, two teas) the borealis tea wasn't sweetened, but the lychee pearls inside were just the perfect burst of flavor and sweetness to compliment this tea. The lychee long time was so delicious, and they had rose petals inside of the drink too. Definitely a play on textures in their tea rather than the standard boba, and I really appreciate their unique approach. For dessert I had their lychee cream croissant today, and it was almost as big as my face! It was topped with a torched marshmallow fluff with a hint of lychee, and the same rose petals from their lychee tea. Inside the lychee cream was the perfect balance. They have the ratio down 100% on this pastry too! It was the perfect amount to where it wasn't overwhelming, but you weren't disappointed either. I will definitely be making my way back to this place, wait time is a little long, but they've also only been open for a few days. So I understand that they're still trying to perfect their system, be patient! I promise it's worth the wait! read more

Benjis brings a vibe and flavor to anchorage which hasn't been seen before. They're obviously knowledgeable as far as baking techniques as well as drink mixing. I'm not to certain as to why anyone would mention an artificial taste considering most of the flavors offered aren't something we can get fresh (in the state of Alaska) For as small as a city as we are and for the amount of work it takes to get ingredients to PRODUCE high quality products I was very impressed. I laugh at the snobs who compare this to something they've had out of state because literally no one cares that you had a better pastry 2 years ago in a city where your junior college was at. I'll take what we can get here in AK. The first few times I've gone I've gotten the taro coconut pastry, the chowder, the bahn mi and 3 different drinks. It's now a daily part of my routine. This place is very nice, I'm glad they were able to bring some delicious baked goods to anchorage. That also have delicious teas with boba also! Ended up getting the maple bacon cruffin, papaya bread, Mango coconut slush with grass jelly and the pork bit and cha lua Bahn mi. The bahn mi was not my first pick but it is still very tasty. Just wish there was a bit more meat. The papaya bread is like those Hawaiian sweet roll infused with papaya and it's amazing! I'm glad they offer different milk substitutes for the milk tea. The maple bacon cruffin is everything you can ask for! Nice flaky bread which is also nice soft and fluffy! The maple and the bacon add a sweet and saltyness to it. So glad I found this place! I didn't even know about them until one of the other cafes I follow on Insta posted about them. I've been here twice - first time on their grand opening. I ordered two pastries which were white chocolate matcha and chocolate croissants, along with the cold brew topped with cheese foam and their Tropic like it's hot iced tea. - White chocolate matcha was sooo good that I had to come back for it! It was coated in sugar and matcha powder and the inside seemed to have a thin spread of white chocolate and matcha. However, when I came back a couple of days later, it wasn't the same as the first time. It was dry on the inside and no spread of white chocolate/matcha. The chocolate croissant was perfect! The drinks were yummy too. The cold brew is strong and gets the job done and surprisingly worked well with the cheese foam concoction. The tea was good too. Very very floral, which my husband doesn't mind and he enjoyed it. But if you're not a big fan of florals drinks, I would steer clear. - The second time we stopped by, I got two of every pastry they had available, and I'm glad I did! Everything was great except for the white matcha (as mentioned above). I ended up with about 12 pastries and shared 1/2 with my mom. Paid a little over $70 with 2 drinks. For the drinks, I got matcha milk tea with grass jelly. That was one of the best matchas I've ever had! My brother had the blended taro boba and that was very tasty as well. - Overall, I would keep coming back! I still have to try the bahnmis, other boba flavors, and other pastries they come out with. The price is reasonable too. The service is good, but will have to follow up and update again when they are not as new and as busy - just to see if they keep up with the consistency of their quality. I love this bakery, service very friendly, all pastries fresh fluffy...I tried the almond sticky bun, we also got the pecan sticky buns Superb no kidding, it was very difficult to pick, everything looked delectable. For lunch we enjoyed the lemon grass pork sandwich at just the right amount of spice seasonings and fresh vegetables on it loved every bite. (Pre-Pandemic Review) I'm reviewing a visit I did before the current world situation, so please keep that in mind. I went here for a Bahn Mi, an Ube roll, and a bubble tea. The Grilled Pork Banh Mi was phenomenal, probably the best I've had in Anchorage. The Ube roll was a bit sweet for me, but really carried the flavor of the Ube through. The Boba tea was great as well, with a smooth creamy flavor (I got lychee) that complimented the Boba so well. I will say, however, that it is a bit pricier than normal, due to it being a smaller place. The decor of this place is Bronx meets modern revival. Really fun street style decorates the walls, while small tables dot the edges of the space. Unfortunately, this is a very small space. They do a good job of working with their room, but if it's busy, it does end up feeling pretty cramped. Service was great. Everyone I interacted with was helpful and had suggestions for what to get when asked. Definitely great staff. Now for the breakdown. Decor-5/5, Service-5/5, Price-4/5, Food-4/5, Drinks-5/5. It pains me so much to write this updated review but I have to say it. We normally love benjis and their grilled banh mi but today was a huge disappointment. They put the worst cut of meat on the banh mi, completely fatty, chewy, inedible. Basically ate a pickled veggie mayo sandwich. I don't think I will order it again. Although known for their pastries, sandwiches, and teas, I mostly go for the delicious clam chowder. It's always thick and chunky and comes with a fresh mini baguette. (They do run out of the baguettes if you go too late in the day.) read more

The Alaskan chowder was fabulous and is served with a side of French bread that was divine! I also sampled the Hershey's cruffin and yum!! is all I can say. There was a divine crème filled inside it topped with chocolate drizzle and 3 small squares of Hershey candy bar. It was not overly sweet--just perfection. Also had the strawberry filled croissant--again divine. The only thing I was not a fan of was the pork ban mih sandwich which the pork was fatty and not very much of it plus too sweet for my taste so I ate the cucumber slices inside and a few bits of the bread. To be fair ai have no prior experience (this was my first ever) with what this should taste like to be good, but I didn't like it. We took home the ham and cheese croissant and the jalapeño bacon cheddar and both of these the next day for breakfast were great! read more

This bakery opened super strong and has continued to impress with good food, drinks and always keeping it fresh with new bakery items and flavors. When I first visited, the line was out the door. A little less busy now months later, but still constant flow and slimmer pickings late in the day as the crowds rush to get their matcha cruffins. Re: food, mostly know for banh mi Vietnamese sandwiches. Grilled pork is probably my go to but the Saigon ham is also good. Bagels are on the menu, but every time I have been, there is a sign that says unavailable. The biggest sellers are the bakery items: cruffins (think croissant + muffin. Looks like a muffin but flaky inside). Several have a pipette with flavor to squeeze into the custard filling. They have ube and matcha green tea, for example. The ube danish is also good. They have a full coffee setup. The cold brew is good but different than what you are used to. There is coffee jelly on the bottom, then cold brew, then a foamy, whipped foam on top. They also have boba with various flavors (although use powders for flavoring) but a bit pricey at around $5.75. And they have a real boba plastic cover shrink wrap machine with extra large straws! Small high top tables for eating but space is limited. Gets tight when there is a line. There are usb plugs on the wall along the seating area. Large parking lot. Nice that there is a glass window where you can watch the bakery items being made. Note there are some gaps in times they are open during the day. I'll be back for sure - just need to go earlier before they run out of things. read more

You can watch the goods being prepared through the windows and your goodies are warm when you get them in your hand - even in the afternoon. Since this bakery is specialized, the owners/employees/family members take the time with each customer and explain each item so you can carefully pick your treat. I warn you - you will be tempted to buy each one, so select carefully, as the staff do give you 100% of their attention when it is your turn to make a selection. There is always a line, and it's worth the wait! As I said, a contributor is the attentiveness each customer gets, but you also must know that each contact with a staff member is personalized. The coffee is also amazing with dairy alternatives and a unique twist. I suggest you ask for the cold brew, as it is made a very special way that will Make you want to come back for more!
