This little sandwich shop is so cute! First I came grabbed one sandwich took it to the hotel. Then surprisingly had to come right back. This was stop number 4 on our progressive brunch which means I wasn't hungry and that's important to note as I believe you cannot cook or honestly pontificate on food when you're famished. This local Cafe in anchorage is quite unassuming when you walk in but don't be fooled It's Good. We tried the Flying Pig which I was told was one of the more popular items and I understand why....its delicious. Ham, Sausage, Bacon, friend Egg and I substituted the American for Colby Jack all on a croissant Simple, delicious, flavorful. Paired with a cup of coffee and you are set until lunch. read more

I order a 1/2 portion of the Midnight Sun Salad with the addition of chicken. It was a huge for 1/2 salad and tasted delicious. The candied walnuts mixed with the grapes was an awesome combination. Loved the tenderness of the chicken. Three of us ordered the same salad and we all loved it. It was a cute little place and I would recommend it. read more

On a recent rainy day, my sister, mother and I ventured into downtown Anchorage to eat at a specific restaurant. After parking in the garage, we descended to the first floor, and saw the Midnight Sun Café. We decided not to go outside in the rain, and eat here instead. I am so glad that we did! I had the amazing Veggie Breakfast Sandwich on a croissant. If I could eat that every morning for the rest of my life, I would have a smile on my face all day long! Well stopped in while I was running the errands downtown for a quick bite to eat. Ended up ordering the angry flying pig and the regular flying pig. The angry flying pig has to be my favorite of all breakfast sandwich now. The amount of meat to bread ratio for this sandwich is amazing. They had the right amount of jalapeños on it. The service here was very quick and great. Definitely a stop to make if you are needing a quick bite to eat and some great coffee. read more

I've been by this spot a hundred times and never really stopped in, I've been missing out! Such a quaint little shop with a nice staff and delicious food. I had the turkey bacon ranch panini and she had half a BLT and the Midnight Sun Salad. My turkey bacon ranch was DELICIOUS! Toasted multigrain bread with the perfect mix of turkey and toppings. Her BLT was equally delicious and a perfect addition to her salad which was fresh and well put together. This shop is a gem right in the center of town. read more

After getting into Anchorage late at night and waking up early with the time change and sunshine practically all day/night...we were hungry for breakfast. You have to go to this cute little gem! We are in Anchorage, 5 of us for a couple of hours before we travel a few hours to go on a Princess Cruise. I found this while looking on Yelp for a yummy stop to get a bite. I had the 1/2 sandwich Ham and Brie on multigrain and my husband had the Flying Pig sandwich on a croissant. We were looking for a place to sit around and enjoy some coffee while waiting for our car to be ready and we happened to stumble upon Midnight sun cafe. The first thing I notice was how clean and inviting the little cafe was as well as how friendly the staff was. Now the food was absolutely delicious. I ordered the breakfast Sammy special and my husband ordered the angry flying pig and they were both perfect. My favorite thing though was my iced latte it wasn't too sweet and the espresso was wonderful. I highly recommend this place. read more

This is a place I have been going for breakfast each time I am in town for the past 2 years, it has been great and I recommend the place. Today it was very disappointing my standard breakfast was not correct and slapped together. The tables were not clean. It could be due to tourist season and they don't care. Hopefully things go back to normal in the winter when they need the customers. read more

Alright midnight sun two years ago would be getting a 5 star review but today just blew my mind. I got a turkey cranberry & swiss sandwich and a redbull Italian soda for $21 and some change. It's ingredients are bread, lettuce, cranberry sauce, cream cheese, red onions, turkey and Swiss cheese. I got a Swiss lettuce cream cheese sandwich. There is more cheese than there is meat, hardly any cranberry sauce and no red onions. The redbull I asked her to surprise me with the flavors because I'm open to trying new combinations, with whip cream and cream. I can't be too upset about it because I could tell the nice lady who made it was new, but it's just a redbull in a cup with ice, cream and whipped cream. I had to correct her when she gave it to me because there was no cream and had to tell her what that meant. Again no biggie she's new she didn't seem to understand when I ordered it but you'd think someone would shadow her with her being so new. Very disappointed with my meal. The service is always good as they're all very nice but the food itself.. as someone who use to go there everyday from 2017-2022 as I worked in the mall and it was the best place to get food, it's really gone downhill. read more

This is a woman owned business so I was glad to support it. The food is ok. Unfortunately this cafe is not safe for celiacs or people with severe allergies like gluten. I made the mistake of ordering a gluten free sandwich thinking it was going to be prepared safely for a celiac. I later realised that the grill / panini maker is shared with regular/ gluten items. While the owner said she had cleaned the grill, I don't believe the grill was sanitized adequately for a celiac. The sandwich tasted ok. They use the Costco gluten free bread so nothing special. read more

Stopped in for a quick bite, waited 30 min for food. Wanted us to buy water because they were out of cups. Strawberry banana smoothy had no hint of banana. Ran out of spinach (didn't tell me), so I paid 1.75 for 2 slices of tomato in my veggie breakfast sandwich. Avo toast was too salty and nearly inedible. Breakfast sandwich lists bagel as one of three options and then uncharges for a bagel. They just didn't do things quite right. read more

After an unexpected snowfall this morning in Wasilla, I opted to leave the house quite a bit early to avoid any weather delays on my commute. I decided I would stop in for a quick breakfast since I had some time to kill, and remembered that this place was pretty good when I used to frequent here as a previous mall employee for 5+ years. I was not disappointed! There were four people in front of me in line, yet I didn't even wait about 10 minutes to get my breakfast sandwich that was hot, tasty, and perfectly made (in my opinion.) I ordered the bacon breakfast sandwich on an English muffin with cheddar cheese and avocado. I don't usually take a chance on adding avocado to anything when ordering from most places (due to the expensive up charge and tiny portion that usually comes with it, or it being thrown onto the sandwich which falls off the moment you try to eat it.) but this wasn't the case with this sandwich! The bacon was crispy, the egg was fried and seasoned to perfection, and the generous portion of avocado was perfectly fitted to the sandwich. I couldn't have made it better myself! With just two employees working on a busy morning shift I was really impressed. The effort was definitely there, and the service was friendly and fast. This might be my new go to for a quick breakfast sammy before work now! read more

History

Established in 2007.

My husband, Michael Williams, and I (Lindsay Williams) set out on this adventure in January of 2007. I had been in the restaurant industry several years before I realized my dream of one day owning my own cafe. For ten months we kept our eyes open in search of the perfect opportunity. When we found the Lucky Monkey we knew it was going to be a lot of work, but that it had the potential to become everything I had envisioned. I wanted to create a space that was warm and inviting. Where people could come to relax, and their minds could find sanctuary from the stresses of everyday life. I wanted to serve the best coffee I could get my hands on and feel good about each cup I poured. For months, I perfected recipes so that each item on our menu could be prepared from scratch. We are passionate about great food and outstanding service.

Meet the Business Owner: Lindsay W.

Lindsay was born and raised in Yakima, WA. She came to Alaska in 2000 to attend the University of Alaska Anchorage on an athletic scholarship. She graduated with a BA in Psychology and spent several years in the restaurant industry. After a short lived career in social work, she decided to go back to her true passion-food, coffee and customer service. Lindsay owns and manages the cafe. She loves the cafe culture and being located in downtown Anchorage. Lindsay is supported by her husband, Michael, who mainly enjoys eating and drinking at the cafe.
