Decided to stop in at Ben's Barketplace after taking my dog to a new dog park in Midtown. Super glad I did! I have a doodle puppy and she's pretty picky and the owner approached me and asked what I was in for and gave me a lot of informative knowledge on my dogs diet and even gave her some freeze dried minnows to try when I said I wasn't sure what she liked. Bri was super informative and showed me multiple products that my puppy could like, she was also super knowledgeable and took the time to fully acknowledge everyone walking in while maintaining conversation with me. It's a woman owned franchised location They offer self service dog washes, and only sell clean ingredient products, she addressed many of the customers by name and overall made me feel super welcome as a first time Customer. This is a great pet store and staff is very helpful. They have a wide variety of treats and food, which my family's picky dog actually likes. Best of all, they have a nice return policy, even if the food is already opened, which is great if your pet is a picky eater. There's a small parking lot next to it but otherwise you can use the parking meters on the street. I was able to return food that was opened without any problem. We stumbled on this new pet supply store while walking our own dog through the city. We love a dog friendly adventure, so of course we popped in with our dog. They have a good selection of toys, treats, specialty items, food, and they specialize in raw foods for dogs. They have a whole refrigerated section and we were impressed by the variety of items across the store. They also have a self use dog wash. The staff was friendly and offered our pup some treats and asked if we needed any help. We ended up leaving with some treats and some "beauty" items for our dogs long coat. Ben's Barketplace in Midtown Sacramento is awesome. Unlike the giant chain pet stores, Ben's carries a fantastic selection of quality dog and cat foods and treats: kibble, freeze-dried, air-dried, grain-free, raw, frozen, you name it. Their wall of dog toys has great options, too. While they have dog-bathing stations, I haven't tried them. The staff are welcoming and always offer water and treats when we shop with our dog (he loves it!). They also have a reward program. No one ever picks up the phone. usually shop at the Citrus Heights location since I used to live in Carmichael, and I've always had positive experiences there. The manager at the Citrus Heights location has always handled my special orders for me, and I've never had any issues. Recently, after being involved in a really bad car accident, I permanently moved to Sacramento, so I decided to place my special order through the Midtown location instead. I spoke with Bree, who told me my order had been put together. About a week later, I called back simply to ask if it might be possible to swap one of the bags for a different flavor. I was only asking and would've still purchased the original bag regardless. During that conversation, she told me she had "heard from the Citrus Heights store" that I sometimes don't pick up my orders. That immediately felt strange to me because I've never had any issues there. I called the Citrus Heights location directly and spoke with their manager, who told me they've never had a problem with me. They even checked with their team and later called me back to confirm that nobody had said that to her. The whole interaction left me feeling uncomfortable and unfairly judged. I still shop with Ben's because I really like the store and products, but this experience with the Midtown manager was disappointing. read more

They gave my yellow lab treats and told us to come in they have a lot of food samples! We came in and were helped by Jack! He was very nice and gave me some great samples for my dog! Absolutely horrific experience. I saw they had the cat food we purchase regularly for a fair price. I called ahead of time to ensure it was available and told them I'd be driving from Elk Grove. I was very specific with the owner that I wanted the 15 pound bags. They promised me they were set aside for me. I walked in and saw they weren't the correct sized bags. They don't have them and wanted me to pay the same price I pay for the others. No effort was made to rectify their mistake. Street parking is a bit of a nightmare here, so use their customer only parking on the side of their building. This place will likely be out of business in no time with this level of customer service, and I'm sure they'll be blaming everyone but themselves. Now they're trying to discredit me. I didn't ask for a large bag. I asked for the 15 pound bags that are on their website. Perhaps the owner should invest in some hearing aids and own their mistake rather than try to pass the buck. He has had a good solid weight gain but not overweight. Ben's Barketplace is the only store who sells it. They are a wealth of information. Always so friendly with a helping hand. My partner and I normally buy through Pet Food Express for the convenience, however we recently switched to Ben's Barketplace, the Midtown location, since it's a short walk for us and we were having issues with being able to access the food we normally buy our cats consistently through the other pet food shop. The service is so friendly and they make sure to make a note of the food we buy so we can always find it. In addition, they really take their time to make sure we find everything alright and that we get any available in-store or product specific promotions. I stumbled upon Ben's Barketplace in a minor crisis. The travel plans were going smoothly until I got to the pet boarding place. I forgot to bring my dog's food, Dr Marty Small Breed Formula. It's a freeze dried human grade food that isn't widely available in stores. She has a fickle stomach. This food is the only one that doesn't upset her stomach and that she will constantly eat. My dog would almost certainly have GI issues from a sudden diet change to the facility's house food. I faced a 45 minute or more round trip from the boarding facility on E and 17th(Grateful Dog) to my home in Arden Park. On a whim I went to the manufacturer website. Ben's Barketplace , a locally owned small business, was on the dealer list . The store was only 5 minutes away on 19th Street!!! The store is a hidden gem. They only carry foods that pass their quality standards. The store still has a good selection of products, including treats and toys. The staff was helpful and gave me a sample of a food that may also work for my dog. The store also has delivery as well as a self serve dog wash. Check them out! read more

Stopped in today with my dog. There was a woman working the register and man stocking toys who were both friendly. They told me the backstory of Ben's and what prompted the family to start the company. The woman gave me a tour of the store and showed me what Ben's offers. I thought this was really nice she went out of her way to do this. She gave my dog a treat and asked questions to gauge what we needed that they could offer us. I picked up a couple of items and she then gave us some free samples (literally seem like full sized treat bags) to take home to try. My dog and I will definitely be back. The customer service was fantastic. It's also really nice to be able to walk into a store and not have to read the ingredients on every item.
