Silverball Subs is a hidden gem on the far west side of town. Not hidden in a "nobody knows about them" way because their review score and Mountain Xpress awards prove that people do. It's more of a "they are in a weird pseudo strip mall behind an urgent care on New Leicester Highway and you absolutely have to go there on purpose" thing. Whatever you have to do to find them - go. Top notch subs. The Lou Reed is excellent- not quite a Reuben because mustard and not rye and if purists saw you press a Reuben - Oi. The resemblance is strong and the sandwich is wonderful. I ordered the foot long and had half for lunch and half for dinner. Good choice, me. The service was friendly and efficient. The sandwich was finished quickly. I took it to go so I can't speak to the ambiance, but it seemed like a chill spot to enjoy your sub. I'll be back, you should make the journey. read more

Pinball machines are gone, which stinks honestly, I was looking forward to that! That said, the subs are genuinely good and the service is friendly and quick. Really nice folks serving tasty a tasty club sandwich down Leicester Highway -- and it's worth the drive. Silverball Subs slices your meats and cheeses to order, and they did a perfect job getting my ham and turkey just the way I like it. The bacon was cooked perfectly, too. Really nice assortment of Carolina Kettle potato chips, and the fountain drinks are all Boylan sodas. Did I mention the pinball machines? Great subs. The problem waiting 15 minutes while they work on to go orders then another 20 for our subs is to long. Listen cashier and one other person yall set up a line on the back side to do To Go orders. Yes get another slicer and set it up.The front two work on ppl coming in the door. I go to Silverball at least 3 times a month. I have never gotten tired of the sandwiches. I highly recommend this place.

Really good subs in the NYC/NJ style. Thin sliced meats, a good selection of classic toppings and a few local twists. There is a small arcade inside if you are in the mood. The food is 5 stars but I take one star off for two reasons. 1) it is almost $20 for a sub! 2) it is only open weekdays until 3pm. So it is never an option for grabbing lunch on the way to a hike or something. The pricing and hours make me feel like this is a side passion project and they are prioritizing their work/life balance over growing the business. Hopefully they last. I will occasionally stop by for a ridiculously priced but tasty sub. read more

Let me start by saying the subs are really good, that said, they aren't as good as they were a year ago or even a few months ago. The quality of the ingredients is great but quantity of meat is less and it isn't as thinly sliced. Most recently the bread has changed and while good it's not as good. First time ordering. Got a club sandwich. The sandwich was OK, the bread was decent. But the cheese was horrible. It was like thin sheets of plastic packed with salt and dry. I liked it! Heck of a lot better than the Mikes chain my husband seems to like so much. I tried a "Bruno", which was Thumann's Ham, Salami, Soppressata, Capocollo, Double Provolone, dressed "Silverball Style". Hot pressed. I liked it....soft bread, fresh toppings. I will say it was kinda dry; could have used more oil/vinegar or some light mayo. With that said it was almost too MUCH meat for me. Next time I'll try something different. Friendly service. I will note thought that it was kinda pricey; like $38 including tip for 2 sandwiches and 2 bags of chips. I need to figure out when they have sales/specials. Silverball makes some awesome subs. I ordered (online) a turkey, pepper ham and swiss sub pressed. Since I had some errands to run before I could eat I asked for the veggies on the side. Went in and my sub was on the press. Staff was very friendly and 100% masked up, which I very much appreciate. While my order was finishing I took a look at the pinball machines and once we're post-pandemic I plan to come back and play a few. The sandwich was delicious and they are very generous with the meat. My toppings on the side were perfect as well and plenty to dress the entire sandwich.
