Our waitress seemed unorganized and not really a waitress. More of a bad barista looking for another career choice. Needs some changes in her attitude. Seems fake. No coffee refills. No water. I'm not unhappy, but feel they could be better. The hostess is great. A large -very large- man walked and jumped the line, sat down and was waited on immediately. Very good food, had their brisket eggs Benedict which was pretty amazing. Our kids had a smiley face pancake which they also loved. They couldn't finish it all because it was so big so we helped them finish it. We discovered they have huckleberry syrup so we decided to try it out...It was soooo good. They have the takeout option.... But only when they want. They pick and choose when. This town is mostly out of town guests. We have dogs, no dogs allowed or outdoor seating or take out. My Wife and I are here for a little weekend getaway and wanted a close by breakfast from where we are staying, Boardwalk Cottages. We were seated quickly and had coffee in a minute. They were very good about topping off the coffee, which I like very much. My wife got the French toast w/ a side of 4 sausage links. I got the Crab Eggs Benedict!! It was well worth the cost of it with the heaping portion of crab they put on. And the hash browns were cooked near perfect as well, with just the right amount of crisp to them. Father-in-law was in town & he remembered a taco salad, they don't serve that anymore. What they did serve, was disgusting. The over medium egg whites were runny, the French toast wasn't sour dough, they substituted Wheat or some other disgusting bread ... find anywhere else to eat! We came in from Astoria and we were running close to their closing time. They were super sweet and said come over we will stay open for you. We arrived and never felt rushed. As frequent Long Beach visitors, we realized we'd never been in before. We were excited about the French Toast Special advertised when we arrived. When we went to order it, we were told she checked with the "cook" and it wasn't being offered at this time... so we paid the 8.75 instead, when asked if we wanted strawberries and whip cream I (my own fault) assumed it was inclusive, like when you're asked if you want syrup - we have never paid additional for toppings...but sure enough it added $3.75 per order for $12 total... again, I started at a $6 special... Unfortunately, the French toast was cold and and eggy, the toppings were not plentiful. The omelette we also got was small, the hash browns soggy and nothing was actually HOT, fresh and good. No vanilla creamer for coffee. Just a bummer all around because our family loves to support local owned business but I got the feeling that only locals are treated right. read more

My husband was SO impressed with the crab scrambled eggs that we visited on two consecutive days. Saturday morning was BUSY, and some of the wait staff were curt with the customers. Our waitress was wonderful (I wish I'd gotten her name), but I noticed that she was getting ordered around by the more senior servers. When we returned on Sunday morning, the restaurant was less hectic, we were seated right away, and everyone on the wait staff was friendly and pleasant. I found the food good but not great; however (like I mentioned) my husband LOVED it. I guess it's a matter of personal taste ... I'm not particularly fond of seafood, so I tried something out of my "comfort zone" (oyster omelette) and was disappointed. We have been here before COVID and the experience was okay but with a long wait. Went there this weekend and asked for a to go order since we were not comfortable sitting so close to so many people. Woman was rude and snappy with my 72 yr old husband He told he totally understood how busy they were and we would expect to wait in line with our order behind everyone in line and she snapped again and dismissed us. There aren't a ton of breakfast options in Long Beach, but I liked the sound of the seafood-heavy menu at Benson's by the Beach, having never had razor clams before. It's a pretty typical diner, which is both good and bad. The seating area is pretty spacious, so we only had to wait a minute before getting a table for two, and sat on the sunnier enclosed patio area off to the side. They have those folksy diner newsletters full of cheesy jokes and local ads, and a wooden peg puzzle on every table to pass the time while you wait for your server and/or your food. Every table around us eventually succumbed to the peg puzzle, and it even prompted some friendly conversation between tables -- this is that kind of place. They offer the standard breakfast fare, plus the more beachy specials like the razor clams 'n' eggs and the Hangtown Fry (oyster omelet). The portions are enormous and the quality of the food is decent, if not outstanding; some things, like the hash browns, are obviously straight out of a freezer bag. The "grilled" razor clams are actually batter-fried, which wasn't what I was expecting, but I enjoyed them anyway. The Hangtown Fry was really good and probably the thing to get if you're looking for a local specialty. The coffee was terrible, watery and flavorless, so I wouldn't bother getting it -- grab a cup somewhere else first! Really, it's that bad. Overall, it's a classic diner experience, with big portions, friendly servers, and a folksy family-friendly atmosphere. Benson's by the Beach is a simple and basic family diner. There aren't a lot of choices of places to eat around Long Beach but I'm glad I checked this place out. I tried their crab benedict since it combined two of my favorite foods: crabs and eggs benedict. I was surprised how generous they were with the crab and that it had a good amout of chunks, instead of all of it being flaky. The hashbrowns were pretty decent. I'm fussy about breakfast. Benson's did the deed. Thick bacon that was tender, not dried out and hard, Hollandaise sauce so good I licked the plate (sorry: bad manners but it was sooo good), poached eggs with yolks runny and whites set.... Yum. It's a bit of a wait on weekends, but good food is worth some patience. The kitchen is small so they can keep control of the quality, and I'm not in that much of a hurry. The service was friendly and polite. The food was okayish. I got crab eggs Benedict for $19. It was pretty tasteless, cold and the hollandaise did not taste buttery at all. My husband got tasteless biscuits and gravy that were also cold. The wait was 15 minutes in line outside (just get in line if you go, don't try to get in through the door that's just how it works). Inside we waited about 30 minutes for cold food. It is the only breakfast place in town which is disappointing.
