I've only eaten at Benson's Tavern three times. The first time was excellent, but the last 2 were disappointing. I ordered the prime rib with Mac and cheese as my side and we ordered the Mac and cheese bites as our appetizer. The prime rib was good the first bite but the further I got into the sandwich the less appetizing it was. I work with subs and feel like I could have gone to work and made what I was eating for free. The Mac and cheese was the blandest tasting thing I have ever had. I didn't even know it was possible to get Mac and cheese that had absolutely no taste. It tasted like eating wet noodles. I asked for a box after only eating a few bites but we just threw it away. My friend got the meatball sub with fries and he said it was good. Service was great. It was busy when we arrived but they still got to us in a decent time. The restaurant was nice and dim and for being a tavern, it wasn't too loud. I'm not saying we won't go back, but not sure I'll order the Mac and cheese or prime rib ever again. Spent over $50 on food that only $20 of it was any good . read more

Had dinner at Benson's Tavern. Upon entering, one is immediately in the bar area. At the end of the bar was someone to seat people for the rest of the restaurant area. As we walked towards the hostess, I noticed a few local beers on tap. Service was friendly. While this was our first time, we were treated like regulars. Our server went over the special of the day, then asked about our drink order. The menu is pub food meets sit down restaurant. While not listed on their website, there is a children's menu. They also do desserts. Upon leaving, someone from the bar thanked us, and asked how everything was. The food itself was good. My husband described it as "hitting a spot I didn't realize I was missing." Burgers were all fresh. The French fries are a thick cut seasoned fry. I rather enjoyed them. They were unique. Portion size is decent. Food from the children's menu is on the larger portion size. The children's meals also come with a drink. When our server brought us dessert menus she explained which items are made in house, and which are not. We ordered one that was and one that was not. I was impressed with the plating of the desserts. It was much more upscale than our main courses. Then again, we did order burgers. Their dinner entrees may be played in a similar fashion. The deep fried cookie is another unique item. I only tried a bite, but what I tried was both crisp and tender at the same time. The balance of warm cookie with cold ice cream was comforting. The peanut butter explosion was good, but not great. It is one of the desserts that is not made in house. I am interested in trying some of their other entrees. I was told to go here by a good friend while waiting on her. They have a lot of variety here on the menu of food and drinks ! Service is OUTSTANDING! Really a nice environment and just laid back with fast service. I got the huge spaghetti and meatball and when I say huge I mean the meatball is a whopping pound! We were just passing through dress shopping and noticed this place. It's typical bar food and was really good.

My friend and I picked this place because she moved to the west side, and I moved to Mason, and this seemed to be in between. Parking was confusing, but I finally found a spot on the street. There is a sign out front saying parking is across the street - but the lot directly across the street is for LaRosa's only, it is actually two lots over to the left. (my friend was smarter than me, and parked there with no problem) You enter straight in to the bar (which I loved!) but if you are looking for seating, just walk to the back and they will get you seated in the area behind the bar. The servers where all attentive, and very helpful. I am not sure if it is like that all the time, but it was great! I got the blacked grouper platter, which came with 2 sides for $13. It was delicious, and not overcooked. I would highly recommend. They apparently have a taco Tuesday, so I will need to go back for that! read more

I understand this place just opened a few months ago. We wanted to try it out because we live kind of close and are looking for a chill, non-chain, neighborhood bar to drink and eat at regularly. We are new to Cincinnati, and I am learning places like these are hard to find. This place was spot on! It looks like the place was renovated. Everything appeared clean and new. They have a bar located a bit separate from the eating areas. Our food was near perfect- Totally surprising for little Reading! You can tell some of the things were made from scratch. I had the grouper (grilled) and it was actually perfectly cooked. We had wings and they were actually JUICY wings. I didn't know tender chicken wings existed. We tried a burger, along with the onion rings and green beans (for the kiddo). Service was great. Everything was great. I would visit again to eat, and also to imbibe. This place is really good, but not mind-blowing amazing. My friends and I stopped here for lunch for a break from bridesmaid dress shopping. I at 1 in the afternoon on a Saturday, it looked like the majority of the customers here were doing the same thing, ha. The food is great for being what I call 'typical American bar food'. I will say that the fries were really good though. They were larger steak-fry size and slightly crisp on the outside. Every one enjoyed the sandwiches and wraps they ordered. The service was very slow but our server was very nice and thanked us for our patience. I don't care much for most wines that bars have to offer, but my friends and I got a bottle of a white wine blend and it was actually very good. So, to start this, this was my first time here. I live in Reading and went with what I would consider regulars. Also, the people I went with promote Benson's by inviting people to come to it for food and drinks. So my wife, kids and I went with family. Initially it was nice. Didn't really have any problems until I ordered their Shrimp Creole. Now, I've been to New Orleans and other parts of LA as I lived in East Texas, and I have previously made shrimp creole. So, I know what shrimp creole should be. I wasn't expecting "out of this world creole" from here but.. I wanted something close to it. You know. That was not even the case. What I got was a bowl of oil, bland Cajun spice, peppers and 5 pieces of shrimp. I have worked in the service industry and I do not like to complain, so my wife did it for me. To no fault of the server, the manager gave a rather unprofessional and uneducated response about the lacking creole. 1. In the menu, it lists the dish with a Cajun tomato sauce, I.e the hallmark of the creole dish. (Not a single tomato was in he dish/or in the oil slop). 2. Manager responded with everyone makes creole differently.(Hmm.. could be true, but people don't make creole without tomato's. Not possible or it wouldn't be creole.) The manager obviously doesn't care, read the other reviews of the manager. Also, don't pass your bullshit dish as something that it isn't. If a customer orders a burger and you give them a hot dog, don't insult them that what you provided was a burger because people make it differently. If you're down here shopping and need quick food, avoid this place. Because if something isn't right, it's your fault because the manager is incompetent and doesn't understand the simplistic fundamentals of customer service or food and hospitality. read more

I did the Buffalo chicken sandwich which comes with onion straws on a brioche bun. The chicken was good but the medium buffalo sauce was almost non existent. Way too big of a chicken breast for a sandwich. Some in our party were raving about the beer cheese burger. The pretzel stick app was enjoyed - soft pretzels with quest or beer cheese for dipping. I've been coming for years and the prices just keep going up. I usually only stop in for a drink here and there but occasionally I also dine in. I can't keep track of how many times the menu has seen increases in price since covid. Roughly 30% increase on some dishes. If the food was worth it I wouldn't be writing this review. They charge for money for common dishes that have made other restaurants FAMOUS and nationwide chains yet probably wonder why the place is often empty and business is slow. I love this place! Nice neighborhood spot with good beverages and food (hard to find in Reading) where many items are made from scratch. My daughter is addicted to the ribs. My husband enjoys eating here with his sports buddies and this time we went just the two of us for a late lunch date. It was easy to find and there a sign pointing to a new parking area. This was very helpful as otherwise parking can be a bit of hassle. We sat down and were greeted by a sever named Cat. She was so friendly and knowledgable about the menu. She was extremely attentive to our table and even made sure my husband's burger came in the minimized ingredients style he enjoys. She is clearly great at multitasking as she was able to small talk with us while being aware of the needs of her other tables and attending to them in a timely manner. She really helped make our experience one that makes me want to come back and ask for Cat! When one can go to a restaurant and trust that the staff is personable, food great, with a good local vibe it highlights how wonderful of an establishment it really is.
