What happened? I used to love this place but it's awful now. I just popped into to get my usual shrimp tempura roll. It was terrible! Plus they don't serve miso soup anymore with your order. The sushi tasted way off. Not delicious like it use to be. The waitress brought the check and asked how it was. I told it was the worst sushi I've ever had. She quietly set the check down and walked away. Didn't even ask me how they could fix this situation. I put my credit card down and took and ran it. She brought it back to me to sign. Nothing about how to remedy the situation at all. Really? I never complain but no response is not acceptable. I'm NOT going back again. You lost a good customer Bento. I am ordering sushi in every restaurant I can find in ABQ/Bernalillo/Rio Rancho I ordered salmon sushi-nigiri from Bento Sushi. I was pretty disappointed. It was completely bland/flavorless. Good salmon nigiri should taste and feel like butter in your mouth and should have a wonderful subtle flavor but this nigiri had No Flavor at All! I couldn't even finish it - I have never left sushi uneaten. I give them two stars because everyone working there wore their masks even while making and handling the food. First timers here and I think we found a new place for sushi and bento boxes! So delicious. We ordered the Fortune Roll and the Orange Chicken bento box. The Bento box with orange chicken was the best my husband has ever had. The bento box is perfect to try different items. My husband really liked the tempura California Rolls. The whole bento box was fantastic! The Fortune Roll had the perfect level of flavor where you can taste everything. I would order this again and again. 100% my favorite Sushi restaurant ever and I'm from Seattle. The sushi is fresh and delicious. I really love the crunchy roll and have had many others that are delicious. The chicken teriyaki is solid and the whole family loves the egg drop soup. Local. Amazing service. The ambiance is small and intimate but not fancy. Best sushi in town. It has an interesting concept. I think I need to go back in for just the Bento box. Other reviewers really love the bento box specials. I ordered 4 rolls off their specialty menu and the hot snapper appetizer. The food tasted decent. The sushi is okay but I was just not a fan of the sauce. They add the same mayo and a brown sauce on every roll which made them all taste the same... I would request it on the side knowing this for my next order. The hot snapper appetizer was very good. Also I didn't sit inside but the place from the outside looked nice. I ordered during the Covid shut down so the dining might be better when things are running back to normal. Typical Bento Box place, not comfy, but rather bright lit. The good: nice selection of medium good Sakes for a fair price, friendly service. Less good: Hot Sake has weird aftertaste, fish is of medium to low quality. After seeing the Tuna and Salmon on the cooler I had a Jalapeño Bomb which consisted of fried Jalapeños with lots of fresh cream and a Hot Red Snapper Sashimi. The Jalapeño Bomb just tasted very greasy and the Red Snapper was ok. I can't recommend this place. There are many more better Sushi restaurants in ABQ that are better! read more

Such a great, ambient place! &So accommodating! Due to health reasons, I have to follow a gluten/ dairy/ soy free diet. Finding places to eat is always difficult but especially this type of cuisine that uses soy in almost everything. The staff was so nice and patient with me with all my questions about ingredients and even cooked the Jalapeño Chicken without soy sauce making it safe for me to eat. Everything is always fresh, the customer service is phenomenal...the only bad thing is their cooked options are limited and the protein portions in the cooked options (fried rice to be specific) are small...lots of rice, not lots of meat. Perfect satisfaction for my lunchtime sushi craving was found at Bento Sushi, a little restaurant tucked away in a strip mall off Paseo del Norte. When I entered, the health department was on the way out the door, having finished an inspection (favorably, obviously!) - what better time for a first visit? The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable of the menu, and the sushi chefs delivered expertly prepared treats. Nice fresh addition to our Albuquerque sushi offerings. Sushi was very good - fresh tasting and nicely prepared. My only suggestion is to wheel back a bit on the sauces. I know it looks pretty but it just takes over the natural flavor of the sushi itself. That said, we'd definitely return - we'd just ask for the sauce to be left off or maybe placed on the side. Honestly I wish I could say I was more impressed. My New Mexico roll was good, but not anything special. My sashimi was borderline BAD. When they brought it out, my first bite was cold--in fact it was still partly frozen in the middle. Once I let it thaw out a little it barely had any flavor, and parts were pretty chewy. You want white tuna to melt in your mouth! Food was meh (and this is in comparison to other NM sushi joints...) Otherwise staff was nice and attentive. Service was prompt. read more

As of 2019, this is the best place for sushi in ABQ so I give it 5 stars. It would be more of a sub 4 star sushi place if this were in "foodie" cities like Denver, Austin, Chicago or LA. Gotta say this place almost passes for a hidden gem or "hole in the wall." From the outside this place looks very unappealing. We almost turned around to get aushi somewhere else. Nothing fancy or special that makes it stand out or make you want to try just from driving by. Inside though, it definitely has that vibe of a small family owned restaurant. This is definitely the place to check out if you enjoy great service and good food. The two servers checked on us multiple times to clear eaten food and refill water. Don't bring large parties though as the seating area is limited. The variety of fish isn't anything to write home about but the quality is better than a lot of other big names here in town. You have your typical salmon, tunas, and some white fish. Everything tasted great though. From the tuna tower appetizer to the red and white snapper roll to the nabayaky udon. Pricing is typical for a sushi joint. Highly suggested if you're looking for a tasty place for lunch. Dinner is ok too but definitely not suited for a date. They do offer other tradition Japanese dishes such as teriyaki chicken and bento boxes along with some Chinese fusion dishes like jalapeno and orange chicken. This place is special. The decor is so-so, but once you get past that, the service and food quickly make up for it. We had the Teriyaki Salmon plate and Bento Box. The plate had a mound of rice with steamed veggies and of course the salmon. A side salad and soup were also provided. The primary difference to the Bento Box was that it had shrimp tempura and a California roll. It did include soup as well. All were very fresh and tasty. The menu is pretty extensive. We'd have to come a few more times to do a fair sampling. I'd expect things to be on par with tonight's dinner. Our server was a very pleasant and efficient young man who was there when needed. The only negative is the typical Asian themed decor. Put this food and service in a different locale, upgrade/modernize the theme and it'd thrive. Another one for our favorites list. read more
