I decided to give this place another try but was disappointed again with how they handle gluten-free orders. While their menu is marked with gluten-free options, the staff doesn't seem to take it seriously. I informed the woman helping me that I had a gluten allergy, she did change her gloves but not the utensils and she got the fish and veggies from the same containers they use for regular orders. She did not take any extra precautions. She made my roll on the counter behind her, but it wasn't cleaned before she started -- she just placed the sushi down directly on it. It's really frustrating that they offer gluten-free options but don't take the necessary steps to prevent cross-contamination. I ended up deciding not to eat it once I got home because I didn't want to risk getting sick. Very disappointing.

Love love love my 2 rolls: I ordered a California and Spicy Tuna roll to go. This place is located right off Louisiana, next to a Starbucks. You can order a bowl, burrito and many different rolls. It's pretty quick, efficient and the rolls are delicious! $7.95 for the California roll and $8.95 for Spicy Tuna roll. Enjoyed the rolls, thanks for the extra ginger!

I'm honestly sad to write this review I love sushi freak. I have a shrimp allergy so I never order anything with shrimp in it. They're usually really careful and don't have cross contamination. Well yesterday I ordered a gun show sushi burrito. This is the ingredient list seaweed, salmon, tuna, ebi, krab mix, avocado, cucumber, masago, spicy mayo, unagi sauce & mango sauce. This is from their online ordering system and menu. It does not say shrimp in there. Well I was eating my burrito and pulled out two large pieces of shrimp. Luckily I had my medicine with me or this could have been a lot worse.

Ordered delivery and was impressed. The prices are fair and the food was great! I ordered the crunch roll and the caterpillar roll - both were packed with flavor and fresh. Gyoza was excellent, but wish it came with a different sauce. I also ordered a green chile egg roll and this was the best thing ever! Definitely recommend. The gyoza and the egg roll were in the same container with a wasabi sauce so I'm not sure which actually gets that sauce but it was not my favorite sauce. The miso soup was ok, I wouldn't order again as it lacked flavor and was kind of bland. Overall would order from here again! Lots of options on the menu!

I just gave birth and my husband ordered me sushi to celebrate. I ordered 2 California rolls, a NM roll and a crunch roll. It was picked up within 10 min of being ordered yet looked like the sushi had been sitting out for hours. The rice was soggy and it was extremely unappealing and the California rolls had a sour taste and smell. I called right away to complain and was told to take pictures, toss the food and wait until the manager returned to call about a refund. I called the next day and was unable to reach the manager and was told he would reach out as my info was passed on to him. Never received a call so I tried again the next morning. I finally got a hold it the manager, Ken, and he said he would look into it for me. He then hung up on me. I waited to see if he would call me back. Nope. So I tried to call again. I attempted to call multiple times and the call wouldn't go through and would immediately disconnect. I tried blocking my number (*67) and calling again and it went through. THIS GUY BLOCKED MY NUMBER!!! What kind of management is this? When finally speaking to Ken again, he informed me I should've brought the sushi back right away which I told him I tried but was told to take pictures and throw it away and call him for assistance when he returned. Ken refused to solve the issue and didn't care to see the pictures I took of the sushi. He refused to refund us for the inedible food. So basically my husband paid $50 for us to throw it directly in the trash. Avoid the uptown location at all costs. Ken is rude and unwilling to make things right when they fail to meet expectations of the quality or taste of the food you order. Their Wyoming location is 100% better.

Top: Rooster Roll; bottom: Philadelphia Roll.

Sushi Freak isn't bad for fast food sushi. Think Subway or Chipotle where you can watch the rolls being made as you order them and check out. It's quick and decent. I had a Rooster Roll (soy paper, teriyaki chicken, spring mix, avocado, daikon sprouts, wasabi mayo, and tempura crunch) and a Waikiki Roll (seaweed, coconut shrimp, mango, cream cheese, and topped with toasted shredded coconut and unagi sauce). I didn't much care for the Rooster Roll, and it fell apart the moment I tried to eat a piece. The Waikiki Roll was enjoyable, and I hadn't had toasted shredded coconut on a roll before. I enjoyed the mix of mango and cream cheese. I'd get it again. The service wasn't great. The cashier said they would bring the rolls to our table, but then just called out our orders when they were ready and we went up to get it. Not sure why they're asking for tips (with four suggested amounts upon checkout) if you order at the counter and pick up your food, but such is the state of food service nowadays.

I'm giving 4 stars because everything I ordered was delicious. The Kookmeyer burrito with calamari, jalapeños, cream cheese, rice, avacado wrapped in seaweed was ao yummy The Philadelphia roll was good too. I really liked the green Chile egg roll. I wasn't real impressed with the menu. A lot of the rolls had Krab which is just white fish soaked in crab oil. I'm not a fan. I have another sushi place I like where I get more food for less money so I'm not sure if I'll be back.

I love a good sushi joint. Needless to say I've had my eye on this place for quite some time now. My sister came to visit from Texas and wanted McAlister's but I what I really wanted was some sushi. Hungry and desperate I got food from both figured I'd have my cake and eat it too. Walking in I appreciates the giant menu screen within view from the line. I was able to make my selection instantly. Going with the old school Philadelphia roll. Those are my favorite classic sushi rolls! They had it ready by the time I paid my meal at the cash register. The staff was friendly, all wearing masks and gloves! The roll was so good! It made up for such a disappointing experience at McAlister's. I was so glad I finally got to try them and just in time since by the time I got back out meal still wasn't ready so least i got to snack on it while I waited. Sushi Freak I'll definitely be back!

I LOVE Sushi Freak. I am currently in school in the Uptown neighborhood and it is my 'Go-To' lunch place. It's affordable and the food is delicious! Owner Brian, makes everyone feel welcome and keeps tings running smoothly. I highly recomend the build your own Poké Bowl. Miine is with a combo of rice and mixed greens, cucumber, carrot, grren onions, sprouts, Teriaki Chicken, and avocado topped with spicy mayo & sriracha sauce.

This is the older man's reserved table.
    Jon M.

The food and service are great. The atmosphere and dining experience are interrupted during the day by an older man that reserves a table for himself and hovers in the dining area to clean up after customers. He is said to be a family friend of the owners but his presence is disturbing and uncomfortable.

The final price (paying with cash) was $102.32 before the tip, which seems very fair given the size of the portions and the quality. The fish was not the very highest quality, but it was very good. The wasabi was some of (if not) the best that I've ever had. The soy and eel sauces were made in-house, and were excellent. Presumably, the rest of the sauces were house-made as well. Leo was a very good and friendly server. The atmosphere was very relaxed but could be suitable for something fancier. The one thing that hurts is the price; as fair as it is, I do wish that it were a smidgen less.

The two rolls I ordered were better than last time. One was The Green Dragon (i think) using Avacado instead of seaweed. The other was Lobster Dance which is scallops and lobster. The Green dragon was okay. The Lobster Dance would have been a lot better without the overpowering sauce. The nigir were okay, but I prefer my nigiri to not have a lot sauce and all three I ordered were heavily covcered in their cloying (oyster based?) sauce. The Monkey Balls were meh, I've had way better here. The Seaweed Salad was excellent which I think was true last time. I guess I still need to try the in restaurant experience, but based on the food alone I'm not sure it would be great. If anyone has a great place they like let me know!!!

That's why Sakura Sushi & Grill stood out right away. They clearly label gluten-free options on the menu. They also offer gluten-free soy sauce, which is a huge win. Even better, they have lunch specials with gluten-free options, which is rare. It's located in Riverside Plaza in Albuquerque, just past the river on the west side. I ordered the Sushi Lunch A with premium fish and chose the double salmon roll. Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious, and the portions were great for the price. The miso soup that comes with lunch isn't gluten-free, but they brought me a side salad with an amazing gluten-free dressing instead. I felt confident eating here, which is not something I say often. I didn't have any reaction afterward and would absolutely eat here again. One of the coolest surprises: they make their own wasabi in-house. It's not on the menu, but if you ask, they'll bring it out, and it is absolutely worth it. We considered getting a sushi boat, but the lunch specials were a better value for lunch. If we went for dinner, we would absolutely order a boat. I also had hot sake, which paired perfectly with the meal. At the end, they even brought us a sweet cinnamon tea for my friend's birthday, even though we didn't order dessert. Service was warm and attentive the entire time. My friend has a shellfish allergy, and the server made sure her plate only included fin fish, which we really appreciated. We went around 1:30 p.m. on a Tuesday, and it was quiet with only a few other tables. The atmosphere felt calm and relaxed, with a casual, comfortable vibe that made it easy to sit and actually enjoy a conversation without feeling rushed. They close at 3 and reopen for dinner, so it's a great low-key lunch spot if you time it right. My friend also mentioned she brings her young kids here often, and the woman manager or owner is especially kind and welcoming to them. I enjoyed this place so much that I called my husband on the way home to tell him all about it. We're already planning to go back with our kids, which will make this my second visit in one week. If you're gluten-free, this place is a gem. And even if you're not, the quality, service, and overall experience make it absolutely worth a visit.

I find that sushi here in ABQ tends to be the sweet sauce kind and that's no exception here. I had a few nigiris a few special rolls and an eel hand roll. I liked the eel roll except I thought I'd left cream cheese on sushi back in Seattle where I used to live. I've given up on super fresh fish here in ABQ, mainly because I get that we are in the desert so any sushi is welcome. But the nigiris were all fresh tasting with bouncy flesh.
