I have visited Tamashi a few times and and just now getting to my review. I want to preface this by saying that they should have a five star review, but finish my reading this and you will see why. It is not the biggest restaurant, and is popular, so I would recommend being prepared to wait during "popular busy time" but it is so worth the wait. So I also recommend waiting. The staff is always pretty friendly and accommodating. I shared an app, a roll and an order of salmon sashimi with a friend on both visits. The food is always fresh, and delicious! I never feel like I am being overcharged for what I get either. Going to eat for sushi can feel like that sometimes. The quality of the food is great and everything is always aesthetically pleasing as well. I had their avocado bomb on my last visit and I was delightfully surprised with it. I like avocado in most cases, but sometimes, it can be a lot at one. I thought this was going to be like that when I saw it, but I was wrong. I look forward to getting one of these on my next visit! On my last visit my friend and I saved room for a dessert, one that we saw rotating on their screens that they have in the restaurant showcasing some of the menu items. It was a take on a bananas foster. It looked delicious but alas, we'll see if we can manage to get it next time. Note to self, have dessert first on next visit? read more

While you may have to wait a bit to be seated it is worth the wait. It is so busy and I understand why. The experience is great. Staff are very attentive and take care of your every need. The manager, Shelby, talked about the place, how they are looking to expand, and her favorite dishes. Garlic edamame is so so good. Spicy Ramen, I'm still thinking of good it was. I felt like I was in a relaxing environment and the universe was good. Spice was not overwhelming but the broth was on the spot. You have to try the Rio grande roll, this hit it out of the park!! How I love Tamashi! I believe it to be the most high quality sushi with the best variety in abq. I ALWAYS order the crispy rice with spicy tuna (red rock), and a fresh roll. Their eel is super tasty and has the perfect texture. I had only had their salmon on fire from takeout- but having it in restaurant is quite the experience. They bring it to you completely flamed up, it's a bit scary but thrilling. I haven't had a bad meal/ roll from this place. I need to expand my horizons to new dishes! read more

It seems to be hard to find a good japanese spot in ABQ. Tamashi so far seems to be a pretty good spot. We had the hamachi kama, tonkatsu curry, sashimi salmon with roe (forgot what it was really called), and a bento box with black cod miso, tempura and 3 piece of california roll. The hamachi kama was tender and tasty. Would have been nice if it was served with a slice of lemon but we took it from the salmon sashimi dish. Didn't taste the sashimi salmon but it was a pretty presentation and it came with tempura so it looked like a hearty dish. The bento box with the miso black cod was not a huge amount of food, but it was enough! Enjoyed the cod, tempura (wow! a mushroom!) and the california roll. The most disappointing dish was the curry tonkatsu. Although it looked like a large piece of pork, it was pounded thinly and was dry. Needed to add a lot of curry sauce to balance out the dryness. They were busy but the server was thoughtful and trying his best. Nice spot that doesn't feel like a hole in the wall. Why only 3 stars? It's a decent place but it didn't knock my socks off. One star for service because the service was very good. Otherwise, we would've given no stars. Between me and my date, we tried a number of different things on the menu, including dumplings, Ramen, a bento box, a fish appetizer, and a flaming salmon roll as well as sake. Everything was either terrible or deeply mediocre, except for the flaming salmon roll, which is pretty hard to screw up, and that was just fine, but nothing excellent. Most of the food seemed dry, tasteless and not very fresh. I was surprised because this place was really well reviewed. This was a disappointing experience. We won't be back. read more

Tamashi on Holly is a great sushi place. Party of 6 with a reservation at 6:00pm and seated right away. The menu is extensive with sashimi, nigiri, combos, hand rolls, appetizers, Udon, Bento Boxes etc. started with some house Sake and Sapporo beers with appetizers consisting of an Avocado Bomb, Jalapeño Bomb and Edamame. All delicious. An assortment of different rolls including Rainbow and Blow Pop, nigiri and sashimi graced the table as well as one Beef Donburi Bowls. Not on the menu was some Blue Fin Tuna that was outstanding. All in all a great meal. We'll be back. read more

Did not enjoy this experience. The highlights were the rice lager, which has a very clean finish, and the service. Staff exercised great spatial awareness to navigate the tightly arranged tables. Wait time was reasonable, and the decor was cute. Unfortunately, all low points were food related: * Sesame Street Roll was kinda flavorless (with spicy tuna inside and fresh yellowtail outside, that should not have been the case) * Gangster Roll was his pick, and he didn't want to finish it * Tonkotsu Ramen broth tasted fishy, not like the signature rich and savory taste one would expect from an average bone/pork broth... * Husband disliked how much seaweed came with his ramen, but worse was that he experienced the same fishy taste with his Spicy Ramen! * Am I an egg snob? Yes, I am, and the yolk of a quality egg is darker than what was served * Noodles were a sticky (albeit not overcooked) block, as if the cooks didn't bother to give the bowl a stir before dishing it out Neither of us finished our ramens, but both beers disappeared. Rating is for customer service only. Every time I've ordered to go from this order, they consistently ignore me and take over 10 minutes to have my order ready. I think what I hate the most is they can have a customer stand for minutes before even acknowledging them. Today, that happened to me. The food was great! The service was good but it took so long for the food to come out. The jalapeño bomb appetizer was so tasty! A slight spiciness with a hint of sweetness from the sauce they put on it made for an excellent combination of flavors. The yellow fin was so tasty. The pork dish was what took soooo long. Superb!!! A step above anywhere in town! There is so much that goes into these signature rolls! An artisan at work! Avocado bomb was as described "the bomb!" Alright showed up about 5 people inside ordered a beer and wanted food to go. Waited about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Asked waiter how much longer because it got busy and everyone around us got there food before us. Waiter said he would go check never came back asked for a manager said that there wasn't one. Stopped by this spot when visiting Albuquerque for the weekend, and I'm glad we did. It was busy when we arrived around 6pm but we sat at the bar. All the servers were nice and attentive and asked us if we needed anything. The hamachi we ordered was $16, but I think it was worth it since the salmon collar itself was full of flavor. The sushi rolls were great quality and was filling. The restaurant was a bit smaller than expected but made up for it with the service. There were TVs playing in the background that kept us entertained and the sushi chefs were very professional at their work. Very chill vibe throughout the area. Favorite place to get sushi in town. Best quality and flavor. If its a weekend night I would say be prepared for a wait because it gets quite packed. I usually do lunch when its a little bit slower. I always get the chefs choice sashimi that comes with miso soup, either a spicy tuna roll or California. Also comes with either 8-10 pieces of nigiri, large portions of fish at that. Tamashi has been recommended to me several times, so I figured it was time that I finally try it! For my appetizer, I ordered the Avocado Bomb which comes with avocado, crab meat, and spicy tuna, all deep fried, and then drizzled with their house made spicy mayo. This was my favorite thing out of my entire meal! I'll be ordering this every time I go! Then I ordered their Spicy Ramen. I'm not a ramen connoisseur or anything, but now that it's colder, something hot sounded nice! The Spicy Ramen comes with mushroom, green onion, bean sprout, boiled egg, fish cake, chashu pork, and ramen noodles. I loved the broth and it had such a nice kick to it. Lastly, I tried their Sex and the City sushi roll! They had so many sushi options to choose from, but their menu said this roll was their most popular, and I can definitely understand why! The Sex and the City roll comes with shrimp tempura, jalapeño, avocado, topped with tuna, eel sauce, spicy mayo, spicy ginger sauce, and their super-secret Sexy Crunch. Overall, I had a really good experience. I'm actually quite sad that it took me this long to try it! The food was phenomenal and the customer service was good. This restaurant is a great spot for some tasty Japanese cuisine! We got there and were warmly greeted and got the pick of the tables in the house. The atmosphere is warming and inviting with a bank of tbs showcasing the sushi and another by the sushi bar showing anime. The waitstaff was right on top of our order, and service was fast and friendly. Couldn't ask for better! I had been craving Japanese curry and was not disappointed! I was greeted with a HUGE plate of pork cutlet, rices and tasty curry, with a side salad. It was awesome! Hubby had the salmon bento box with had perfectly cooked salmon, a California roll with a nice tempura selection. Needless to say, yummy! I'm glad got there a little early, around 5:00, because it's a popular spot. But, we would wait for a tasty meal, a comfy table, and flawless service. Amazing experience! We came in at about 8:45 Saturday night and noticed they closed at 9:30 so we felt kind of bad off the bat. Having said that the service was impeccable! It really felt like all servers worked together as a team. Nobody rushed us out of there, they were knowledgeable about the menu and just all around super friendly. Now onto the food...absolutely delicious!!! My husband and I had the red rock, Korean short ribs, miso black cod, spicy tuna roll, the hot night roll and the chicken teriyaki bento box. Seriously not one item was bad; even the salad and miso soup were delicious! I'm from LA where much of the sushi there is top notch and I've got to say Tamashi is right up there with LA sushi. I will give a special shout out to the miso black cod- holy sh** that just melted in my mouth. We will definitely be back very soon! The pictures look amazing, and you'd think the food would be delightful; however....I was completely underwhelmed. The Korean short ribs taste-wise was good, but the cut of meat was tough on the majority, then super fatty. The curry sauce on the cutlet was decent, but again, terrible cut of meat (hidden by the thicker than necessary breading). The servers were nice. My order of sushi....I don't think I've ever been so let down by sushi before in my life. The eel was a joke. It didn't even taste like eel normally does. I was seated immediately and the staff were very friendly. I ordered a cucumber salad and two sushi rolls, the Kenny Special and the scallop Island. The cucumber salad was served first and it tasted excellent They served each sushi roll one at a time and were never late. Each dish was presented beautifully on different platters. We returned to Tamashi for a festive holiday meal to celebrate being together, and it did not disappoint. Fortunately we had made a reservation as we were a part of five, and it was a busy Saturday night before Christmas. The atmosphere was lovely, but not too loud and every table had comfortable space. We ordered all over the menu because we were hungry, the food is great, and we had a couple of non sushi lovers. For appetizers, we chose edamame, gyoza, spicy tuna bites, and takoyaki. Some hadn't tried takoyaki before (sort of like hush puppies but with octopus included)), and everyone enjoyed them - Tamashi. does them well! All of the apps were great, and they were delivered as they were ready so we got to enjoy each one as it arrived. For mains, our non sushi friends had the ramen and the chicken teriyaki bento box, and both were very happy! The bento boxes at Tamashi offer a nice mix of protein, good vegetables, a large amount of tempura, two pieces of a sushi roll and a salad. For me, I had to take my favorite, chirashi (fish on top of sushi rice), and other sushi fans chose a variety of rolls: mellow yellow, tiger, and Mr Kim rolls. Everything was delicious and very fresh, and even though it was so busy, the service was friendly and fast. The bento box arrived a bit late, but they apologized several times, and we still had many apps and pieces of sushi to share. There were differences of opinion in the favorite roll, because all were very good. We love Tamashi because it is always consistently great (food and service), and there is a variety of non sushi options for non sushi friends. Tamashi also offers sake, wine and beer along with tea and other sodas, etc. We will definitely return to Tamashi! read more

I had debated on whether I wanted to share my dining experience, however after 2 weeks of going back and forth, I'm ready. Saturday Oct 8, 2022 My boyfriend, cousin, and I came to dine in after a crappy day at the Balloon Fiesta, and this was one of the places in the area that was open late. We didn't want to spend money on fair food but after looking back, the fair food was 10x better than what we were served. Understandably we came in 45 minutes before closing, however we ordered immediately the moment we sat down. We saw the menu online prior to coming. Also the waitress said that last call was in 10 minutes. My boyfriend and I ordered 2 spicy ramens, and chicken egg rolls. My cousin ordered udon noodle soup. As I scan the restaurant, its definitely packed. Almost every table and booth were full. In between ordering our food and waiting, our chicken egg rolls came out within 15 minutes. That was probably the best item that came out that night. Everything else was downhill from there. My cousin's udon noodle soup came out another 15 minutes later. A total of 40 minutes for our spicy ramen and by that time it's already 9:50. The restaurant closes at 10pm. When our ramens came out, there was two completely different looking bowls of soup. My boyfriend's ramen looked as if it was a mix of throw up. The contents were already mixed in. The one given to me was looking like it was a few days old but plated and not mixed in. He took his first sip of his and compared it to mine and it was a completely different taste. A taste he couldn't even describe. I was not horrible, but definitely not ramen. I flagged our waitress down and told her the situation. She went to the back and spoke to her manager. It turns out since it was the last 40 minutes of ordering food, she comes back and says, "I'm so terribly sorry. Since its near the end of the night, the cooks gave you guys what was left over and put it in a bowl." Holy shit Another waitress felt so bad, she had to say, "I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I used my employee discount on your tab" Holy shit. for even a waitress to say that she would use her discount, was absolutely horrible. The cooks shouldn't have sent out leftover food that's nearing the end of the night in the first place. And they should have communicated to the servers that there is no ramen. At the end of the night, the original waitress said "we will take both ramens off your tab". And while my cousin is eating her udon, my boyfriend and I only got to eat the chicken egg rolls. So much regret. We came back to our hotel starving. I ended up eating a chocolate chip cookie from the Double Tree. At least they don't disappoint. read more
