BentoLicious has become one of my favorite lunch spots. They have bentos priced by the entree, all with your pick of three sides. Every time I've been here I got my bento to go, but they have a number of tables/chairs, and there's plenty of parking nearby. I have actually only tried the Ichiban Chicken and the Basil Chicken, because I keep getting the Basil Chicken. Both, however, have been delicious. I really appreciate the variety of sides here - they don't have a huge number of options, but regardless of whether you're in the mood for something light or heavy, they'll have something for you. I've particularly enjoyed the mapo tofu and the fried eggplant, but everything has been pretty tasty (also, the egg fits perfectly into the small compartment). The service and value put BentoLicious over the top. The staff is friendly and happy to describe the dishes, and the prices are excellent, particularly for the area. As previously mentioned, I have been coming here for lunch regularly, and would strongly recommend giving it a try. read more

Never knew much about Taiwanese cuisine, but Bentolicious doesn't disappoint! I ordered a box containing the fried chicken, salt and pepper pumpkin (so YUM!), eggplant with tofu (first eggplant dish that I actually like!), and steamed veggies. I've ordered this same combo twice now and both times have been extremely satisfied with the consistency of the quality of food. The folks working here are very friendly and warm which is a big plus. I love Taiwanese bentos! They make me feel like I'm eating a homestyle meal and the food is always so comforting. This place gives you a hefty bento box at a reasonable lunch price. All the bentos are about $12 and each bento comes with the main entre with rice and your choice of 3 sides. It would be great if they could add a small drink and make a meal combo or something, that'd be the cherry on top. They currently have about 5 main entres to choose from everyday, 1-2 of them are daily specials that rotate every so often. The permanent entres are the pork chop/railroad, ichiban fried chicken, basil chicken, and I think a veggie option. Some of the specials I've seen was popcorn chicken, fish?, and pork meatballs. The pork chop is very tender and has the right amount of juice and sauce. The ichiban is my go to, the breading is very light and chicken also juicy. Haven't tried the basil chicken, but it almost always runs out so I'm guessing it's a crowd favorite! You get to pick 3 sides from an assortment of about 9-10 options. These veggie side dishes change every day and even every few hours when things run out. My favorite sides are the steamed cabbage, soft tofu in chili sauce, the hard boiled egg, and bamboo shoots. I've also seen squash, eggplant, broccoli, steamed veggies, and bean sprouts. My only gripe is that it's more like 2.5 side dishes since the 3rd slot is super small, like the size to fit an egg - but it's only because the entre slot is so big! The owner is very nice and invested in the business and will tell you many details about the dishes if you are unfamiliar. I'll definitely be a regular here (make a loyalty system please!) - it's the perfect place to get a quick full lunch and I'm always satisfied after every meal here. read more

It was our first time there and we did a quick scan of recent reviews for recommended things to try. The "night market wings" was excellent. It takes at least 20 minutes to get this so, plan ahead with calling in the order. The hot bar was a pick your readymade entree and 3 sides . Our family of 4 tried the railroad pork chop with as many different combinations of side. The adults preferred the eggplant and fried kombucha/pumpkin. The kids enjoyed the string beans and bok choy. There is actually a lot more non meat options than the menu suggest. I love mapo tofu so I ended up getting that, which was great. Most places that make mapo tofu make it too oily. This was pretty clean. My sides were the eggplants and fried pumpkin. I normally don't like eggplant but I love it here. I would eat it every day. Now their fried pumpkin is there staple dish. We're new to Pleasanton and on the first day on our move here, we decided to get takeout from BentoLicious. I had the Ichigo fried chicken bento and I will continue to get this dish every time I'm here. It's that good! I had the mapo tofu as one of my side dishes and I was pleasantly surprised at how NOT oily it was. I ordered the husband the railroad bento. He deemed the flavor authentic, but I didn't realize when I ordered it that the pork chop is breaded and then braised, which my husband doesn't like. Otherwise, he would've loved the dish fully since he liked all the sides as well. Quick rundown: Service was super friendly (a rarity for most Asian establishments). The food wasn't oily. As a new transplant to Pleasanton, I stopped by for lunch yesterday with my wife and got 2 bento boxes to go. We were looking for some good, fast Asian food to help us power through unloading our moving truck... Anyways, because this was my first time to Bentolicious, I was trying to decipher their menu online before I showed up. I couldn't quite figure out how it worked on the website, but I'm glad I came in-person to figure it out. The restaurant is small (no seating inside because of COVID), and I wouldn't guess that it fits more than 6-8 people inside anyway even if you could sit inside. They have a couple of tables outside, but overall this restaurant is clearly set up for people to take their food to go. I can't say that I've had a lot of experience with authentic Taiwanese food, so I can't really compare it that way. That being said, I think the food is excellent. The woman behind the counter gave me a quick rundown of how everything worked. You get your steamed rice, and then you chose one entree (seems like it rotates, but there are generally 4 or 5 options to choose from). Then you get 3 sides to add to your plate. All of that food for about $11. I ended up getting the bean curds with shredded pork as my entree, and then sauteed mustard greens, mapo tofu, and stir-fried eggplant for my sides. My wife got the satay beef for her entree, and the mustard greens, mapo tofu, and fried pumpkin as her sides. I was impressed with everything we got to eat. If I had to nitpick: I think the pumpkin was a little too salty. I generally prefer Japanese Mapo Tofu over Chinese (I'm biased since I grew up with Japanese), but it was still very good. Tables and chairs are clean and neat when we got there at 11:30am. I took off one star because we saw some people ordered the same thing but the server piled on a lot more food. I ordered the beef with scallions over rice, with bok choy, stir fried cabbage, and tempura pumpkin, yes tempura pumpkin!!! First and foremost I have to say that the flavor got me excited about eating here. All the dishes were well seasoned and the flavor of each of the side dishes of vegetables were absolutely perfect. I could literally taste the bok choy, cabbage, and tempura pumpkin. I just can't say enough of how good the vegetables were. Now onto the beef. Wow!!! I have this favorite beef dish and it's beef with green onions, this beef dish at bentolicious was cooked to perfection. I could sense nostalgia as I ate this beef dish.
