I have loved Shihlin since I knew about it many many years ago. I learned in my visit in this location that these stores are not all made equal. I had probably the worst experience here. The food didn't taste as good, tasted like old frying oil. We went on a not so busy weekday afternoon so the wait time wasn't tooo long. The food left us leaving sickish, just greasy and not too good. Not going back here again, will go to the other Shihlin location I frequent instead. read more

They have the best fried chicken! It is always crispy and full of flavor. We were planning on getting that, but ended up seeing a new item on their menu - K Soy Garlic Chicky Pop so ordered that instead. I like anything soy garlic so was excited to give it a try. The sauce was poured over the chicken so it made it less crispy. I wasn't as impressed with the quality of it compared to the fried chicken. They are located inside a food court, which is pretty deserted since most of the businesses are closed. Service wasn't as fast as I'd thought it would be since it wasn't too busy. I come here whenever I'm in the area. I love the fried enoki mushrooms, I'm so glad they put it back on the menu. I also usually get the popcorn chicken. Shihlin in Pleasanton is located inside the food court. You enter through the KW Restaurant entrance. There was no line when they first opened, and my order took about 10-15 minutes. Popcorn chicken: I ordered it with grilled seaweed flavor and mild spice. It wasn't spicy at all, and it didn't have as much flavor compared to the Stonestown location in SF. Still, it was perfectly crispy and a good snack overall. Fried fish ball: I ordered it mild spicy, but again, there was no noticeable spice. It had that classic fish ball taste and was solid. Brown sugar pearl fresh milk: It mostly just tasted like milk. The tapioca balls were a bit hard but still somewhat chewy. Overall, it was good, but I prefer the Stonestown location because the flavors are stronger there. read more

Lots of parking in the plaza and easy self-serve ordering. I went with the treasure box and decided to upsize it as I was sharing it with my wife. I'm not sure what upsize entails as some parts of the menu weren't in English. You can customize if you want popcorn chicken or a leg cut up, along with adjusting the level of seasoning. After ordering, you wait for your number to be called. The chicken itself was juicy and crispy, and not overly salty at all like other Asian fried chickens. The small scoop of vegetables was pleasant, as it had a slight sesame oil flavor to it. The small piece of braised tofu was flavorful. The egg that was provided was on the smaller side, but had a good salty flavor to it. At around ~$17 after tax it was a well priced and somewhat balanced meal! I visited previously with my husband and ordered the XXL fried chicken sliced/cut, which was super fresh and easy to eat (as opposed to biting into the entire slab of chicken). This most recent visit, we decided to share a Treasure Rice Box, which was basically a combo box with fried chicken, rice, braised tofu, and egg. Portion-wise, the box was perfect for the two of us since we didn't want to be too stuffed on our drive home. The fried chicken was delicious as always, and the rice, veggies, egg, and tofu were bonus yummy items to enjoy. I love how consistent Shihlin is and the touchscreen ordering system is convenient as well. The lady who was working was super efficient and we took a seat at the shared tables in the middle of the food court while waiting for our order. This one is always masterful! I love the flavors. The szechuan peppercorn hints. The saltiness and the piping hot fried chicken. Its a hit! Its always a MAJOR HIT! -I also ordered the Grandma Rice bowl with a full egg and extra rice on the side. I genuinely think they know my order everytime I come here. Because they put extra sauce on the Grandma rice bowl so I can incorporate the extra rice that I ordered. Ohhhh so velvety good! The sauce! I need that recipe! Lol. Unfortunately this foodhall has met its ups and downs. Alot of the foodcourt's main booths have been constantly changing, coming and going. XXL Crispy Chicken is what I always get here. They are thinly breaded, juicy and seasoned well. They're fried but not to the point that the chicken gets dry. Juicy in every bite and one order is good to share with 2 people. I always get 2 orders of my XXL Chicken and it's so that I have more to snack on. It always hits the spot for me. Their XXL fried chicken is both delicious and a large portion. Bring your friends to help! And you'll likely have leftovers. I like mine with a bit of their spicy seasoning. We've been going here since they opened and they're one of the few places that has survived in the food court at Pacific Pearl. My family loves their grandmas braised chicken so we go there often for that. I'm finally writing a review because we tried their shaved ice for the first time and it did not disappoint! I was sad when Meet Fresh closed because there's nowhere else around here to get Taiwanese shaved ice. Honestly I wasn't expecting much since I've never seen anyone order it. It comes with 2 topping choices which really isn't enough if that includes condensed milk but the lady gave us all 5 toppings for no additional cost. Taro, red bean, agar, boba and condensed milk. It was perfect size for 2 of us and it was delicious and refreshing. They do pour some kind of brown liquid on the shaved ice. Not sure what it was but it was good. This is one of our go-to spots for popcorn chicken! :] I like to stop by after work sometimes to grab the chicken, sweet plum fries (sweet potato fries seasoned with plum powder), and crispy salt pepper mushrooms. Portions are quite reasonable for the price and service is usually pretty quick. (We usually call ahead before driving over for pickup, but even when I drive over and wait, it's typically less than a 10 minute wait.) The staff is really nice. :] The last time I went, she asked me what I was ordering while I was punching in my order on the screen so by the time I finished poking all my choices on the screen, my order was already mostly ready. Very efficient! :P They're located in the Pacific Food Hall with lots of other Asian eateries. I'm originally from Stockton, California and we don't have much restaurants like the one here. The dining area wasn't that packed. Looks like a place in Japan if you tell me. Subtle but cute. I ordered the "Oyster Mee Sua" with extra oysters on the kiosk. There was a sweet lady working on the food. Broth was starchy but ok, and the oysters were small but decent considering the dish is only $11. They have relatively affordable street food for a quick bite and go. I asked if the order was for me and she said no, she asked to see what I ordered, signal there was weak, so it was a little longer to pull it up. Finally got it and then it was longer before she came back to me and it turned out the order was mine! ‍ Anyway, the food was ordered "mild" but it was medium for me, the pieces were larger than "popcorn" but decent when you're starving. May try the XXL chicken next time, looked good when she pulled it out of the fryer. Oops I ate everything too fast and don't have a picture! I went twice in one week when I first tried Shihlin and can't wait to be back. Good thing they have a rewards program too. Location: Shihlin is located in the food hall next to Ranch 99. Seating: There is ample seating in the food hall since a few stalls have moved out. Clean but a little hard to move around since there were so many tables. Popcorn chicken: The popcorn chicken is the best I have found in the Dublin/Pleasanton area. I always get the original flavor with extra seasoning and mild spice. Serving size is generous and a fun shareable treat! I have seen people go up to the counter just to get the popcorn chicken. Both times I've gone, the popcorn chicken was hot and fresh. Fried tofu: The fried tofu is nicely fried and comes with a sweet chili dipping sauce. If I ever get tired of the popcorn chicken (I won't), I would get this instead. Mom's Braised Pork over rice: A tasty comforting dish! It came with half a tea egg and soft sliced tofu. Very saucy but not overly salty. I would get this again! Passion Fruit Green Tea: I ordered 75% sweet and regular ice. Really really love this place. The Taiwanese shaved ice is super underrated and the portion is massive for only $10. It comes with sweet sauce, red bean, mixed bean, boba, taro and aiyu jelly. Not overly sweet and great for the price. The treasure rice box was $15 and there was so much meat for the price. Even splitting all this food between two people we had some leftover. The chicken was super succulent, but I do wish there was more of the sauce on the rice and that there was more pickled vegetables on the side since there was less than a tablespoon's worth. The sweet plum fries are crazy good and $7.50. They're like sweet potato fries with this plum seasoning and somehow they remind me of a churro. It kinda feels like a dessert snack but in a good way. I picked this all up togo and you can tell it's really fresh. Service was also good, the women working the counter were really nice. I usually go high in the sweet but because of my own knowledge how passion fruit can get sweet, I held back and went to 60% with 50% ice level. I love that these locations are self serviced. You just order on a tablet and wait. So easy and fast! The food is so good. The Oyster noodles is rich, flavorful, and filling. TWO VISITS The last time I ate the Pacific Food Hall I ate at a Korean eatery. However this Taiwanese eatery caught my interest due to the picture of the fried chicken. My friend said that next time we should try this Taiwanese place. About six months ago I went here to eat for the first time. Besides the XXL Chicken I ordered the Brown Sugar Pearl Fresh Milk and Oyster Mee Sua. The chicken thigh had the slight salty texture. Also the meat was moist. The brown sugar milk drink had a refreshing sweet taste to balance the salt texture of the chicken thigh. Surprisingly the best item I ordered that day was the oyster mee sua. It had a similar taste to a hot and sour soup but had deeper flavor due to the brininess of the oyster. Based off this first visit I was planning to give this place a 5-star rating. However I wanted to try other items to see if my initial reaction was justified. About five months later I came here again. This time I ordered Grandma Braised Chicken Rice, Smoked Plum, and Oyster Omelet. I really was anticipating the chicken rice bowl. This dish really disappointed me. Even though that dish was hearty the rice bowl was bland. The plum drink was too tart for my liking. The only dish I liked my second time was the oyster omelette. My first time I ate at Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks I would have rated it as five stars. However my second time I ate here I rated it as three stars.
