While the food was good, simple breakfast food the service we received was somewhat terrible. It was a busy morning but for all intents and purposes it wasn't that busy. There was no wait but there were only 2 or 3 tables available. Our waitress was acting as if she was annoyed we came. We ordered drinks and after about 7 minutes waiting for them she brought just the coffee for my husband leaving all 3 juices somewhere else? As we were ordering food my husband cracked a dad joke and she literally rolled her eyes at him. The menu is small but that was fine for us. My Husband, Son, his girlfriend & I picked The Sugar Shack for breakfast one Saturday morning simply because of it's great YELP reviews. The wait was only maybe 5 minutes tops which was awesome because we came hungry! We were sat at a large picnic table which allowed us all to have a little personal space to eat. Our server wasn't exactly the friendliest of servers. My son's girlfriend is very softly spoken and when she was giving her order the waitress insulted her on her speaking. My son's girlfriend immediately blushed & apologized. This made me pretty upset as no apology was even necessary. We came here for breakfast not to be judged on how to speak. Perhaps I should've given her a quick lesson on manners. Anyhow, onto the food. The coffee wasn't the greatest but did give us the pick up we needed. Home of NH best maple syrup and Top 21 America's best pancakes I see why this restaurant is so popular! We went on a Sunday morning, so it was crowded. We had to wait in a line for a table but it moved very quickly. They have a little gift shop you can shop at while you wait. These are the best pancakes I have ever has. They were nice and fluffy and they gave me a lot of blueberries. The maple syrup was fresh and it was just made that morning. I think they said they don't serve maple syrup more then a day old or two days old. I cannot remember but I know they said it was fresh. I love this place and it is definitely worth the drive if you are in NH. I was in the Lincoln area and I am so glad I drove a few extra minutes to try this place! Yummy! read more

We ordered a pancake combo and a breakfast sandwich. The breakfast sandwich was very good. However, they made the wrong type of pancakes for my pancakes combo. I pointed it out, and they had the cooks make the right type (it sounded like the waitress wrote the order right, but the kitchen read it wrong). However, they rushed to get my new pancakes out quickly, and as a result they were under-cooked in the middle. The bottom of one of the pancakes also tasted like onion, like they cooked the pancake on the grill immediately after cooking onions, without cleaning it first. If you get someone's order wrong, you shouldn't then give them a poorly cooked version of what they originally ordered. I also found the pancakes a bit lacking in flavor (well, besides for the onion flavor). The bacon I got on the side was good though. In general, there was a ton of arguing between the staff. It sounded like the cooks regularly cook the wrong food and it seemed like the staff all wasn't on the same page. I'm personally not a stickler for mask wearing as I am probably immune to covid due to prior infection, but half the staff had their masks around their chin, so if that's the type of thing that bothers you, definitely avoid this restaurant. Overall, some of the food was good but the restaurant needs better management, especially in the kitchen. I'll give it 3 stars because the prices were cheaper than in the more touristy areas nearby. read more

The amount of waste just left me sad...considering they probably go through more disposable items in a day than the average person does in three years. Not a fancy spot with fine china....or China at all, since everything is served on paper plates lol...but an awesome country style mom and pop breakfast and maple syrup shop. This diner style cafe has been around for 5 generations and started as a maple syrup plant and evolved into a breakfast hot spot for locals, tourists, and skiers. For breakfast I got the very berry pancake platter which was not only delicious but also humongous and cheap. Came with three huge pancakes packed with fresh fruit and flavor. It also came with delicious homefries(get the onions on top) and a choice of meat, I chose the corned beef hash which was also delicious. My wife got 2 eggs, bacon, homefries, and white toast, all of which were great. Their breads are homemade on site and amazing. You can also purchase them to take home. I also sampled the french toast and mamas beans which were equally tasty. They have a small store on site which sells their homemade jams, syrup, bread, and hot sauce! Service was very nice and friendly. Reminded me of southern hospitality in the north lol. Overall a must try if your in the area. read more

This was our second attempt, thinking that perhaps we'd hit them on a bad day the first time around. Nope! First off, all the waitstaff (and staff, generally) was Extremely Rude and flippant. It's obvious from the moment you walk in, and extends the entire stay. They hate their jobs and just want to get rid of you. This was one of the only times in our lives we didn't leave any tip whatsoever. The service was so bad it actually made us mad. After the waiter flippantly "pointed" across the room to where our table would be, and left, we walked alone to our table, stunned. It just got worse from there, and it wasn't even busy. =========== POOR FOOD =========== I ordered coffee, which was only *half* filled. I looked on the menu to see if they have free refills, and they do, so that made at least some sense (not really, but I was trying to rationalize my half cup of coffee.) The only problem was, in our 45 minute meal, the waitress never came back to our table, so I never got a refill of my half-coffee. When our orders arrived they had heaped potatoes on top of our pancakes so you couldn't even get to the pancakes. I asked for another plate, and when I was in mid-sentence requesting actually *two* plates, she turned on her heel and left. She came back with 1 plate. Okay, fine. No biggie. The butter was rock hard and *bounced* off the pancakes. My bottom pancake was so burned my plastic fork couldn't even cut through it. While the bottom pancake was burned, the middle one was raw. The waitress never checked on us our entire 45 minute visit, and every attempt at flagging someone down failed. About 30 minutes into the meal I decided to conduct an experiment. I was ridiculously thirsty, so I held my coffee cup up into the air. I remained this way for 15 minutes (my husband timed it so we could document it.) The waitress never came my direction or even glanced over. Seeing that the restaurant wasn't terribly busy, it genuinely seemed as if these people just didn't give a F***. We never received our bill. My husband got up and grabbed his own takeout boxes. I took my burned pancakes up to the front desk to get a refund. Suddenly our waitress, who had been absent for an hour, appeared with our bill. They did remove my entire meal from the bill. However, we left disappointed, angry, hungry, and thirsty. From start to finish it was a terrible experience. You get better service at McDonald's, which says it all. We will NEVER eat here again. *Two Thumbs Way Down* PS: We're locals, not tourists, so they will miss out on our repeat business. My friends and I vacationed to waterville valley this past weekend and we went to the sugar shack for breakfast on Saturday. It was so good we returned on Sunday. I had the apple and cranberry pancakes with eggs (perfectly cooked over medium) and ham steak and a biscuit on the side. GET THE BISCUITS!!!!!! Sooooo Delicious I wanted to eat 20 of them. THE pancakes were awesome too. The portions are so large be prepared to take it home and eat it later...you wont regret it. During morning hours it does get super packed I have waited over an hour before (its worth the wait) but if you go after 11 it is about a 25 minute wait. read more

If ever you find yourself in this neck of the woods, a stop at the Sugahhhh Shack (as we call it) is worth it, for both the food, price and atmosphere (if you want to call it that). At the shack you'll find both the backwoods locals and the mix of area tourists along with the best breakfast around. The shack definitely looks like an oversized shack and is owned by the Benton family, who apparently is known around those parts for their maple syrup production, campground and for serving up a good hearty breakfast on the best plastic and paperware around. Yes, you read that right. Coffee is served in paper cups, juice in large solo cups and you'll dig in to the paper plate loaded with heaps of food using plastic utensils. My friends and I swear this adds to the charm of the shack. Pancakes are delish and the variations are extensive, from Mound Bar pancakes to Cranberry Apple. I also tried a slice of the banana bread french toast. Eggs were cooked perfect. Corned beef hash was nice and crispy, hash browns were just ok but the biscuit was so freaking delicious.
