I wish there were zero stars. Stylist Michelle butchered my hair. Be warned, do not book with her, I showed her several pictures of blunt bob haircuts, and reminded her again before she started cutting that I did not want ANY layers. She texturized my entire head cutting the crown of my head down to just 3 inches! It looks like I have a mushroom on the top of my head. It is the WORST HAIRCUT I've ever received. She didn't listen to anything I said about my hair, I said layers don't work, and she said no, this is going to look good. Be warned, she will just talk over you, and cut your hair however she knows how. Update, the salon manger Bryce contacted me to apologize and ask what they could do to make it right. While nothing can be done with the haircut, I still appreciate the acknowledgment and the refund of the haircut. It is not the salons fault, but the stylist for not listening to her clients. Finding a new hair salon, let alone a stylist that doesn't suck is legit hard if you're a woman. I live in Congress Park and after a just "average" experience at another salon I decided to try somewhere else...queue Berenice's! I called on a Thursday and was fortunate enough to get a haircut slot on Friday at 2 PM with Armen. I arrived and at first glance should have known this haircut would be okay. Armen has curly hair...that should be a rule for curly haired ladies. Armen was sweet, personable, interesting, and most importantly technically skilled. I actually made a follow up on the way out. The salon itself is very nice and was pretty busy when I arrived. They seem to offer a few different services as I saw a makeup counter. It is clean, bright, and the employees seem generally happy which is nice to see. Overall, Berenice's was better than I anticipated and I will be returning. read more

I really wanted to like Berenice's. It's right around the corner from my house and I typically love Aveda products. I have a lot of hair so I'm also a frequent flyer and need a place that is fairly close by my house. I am writing about my first and only experience at Berenice's. I had my hair cut by Sara. I walked out happy initially, she styled it well in big curls. After the style wore out, I was able to see the real hair cut. Oh boy. Let's just call it not good, to say the least. I called Berenice's to see if somebody could fix the job, I also explained I have a thick textured head of hair. The person who picked up the phone heard me out very kindly and said "Oh yeah, Sara is no longer with us. And just so you know, she was not good at all anyways." Hmm ok. So I asked, "Well can I get somebody a bit more experienced/better to fix her job?" They said, " Well, it will be more expensive." I asked, "so you will charge me again?" To which they replied "about $60." I was a bit in shock but just realized that I guess they don't need new clients? Or maybe they don't want to deal with clients like me who have thick and textured hair? Either way, that's their business call! Don't necessarily expect to 1. Get a stylist who can cut hair 2. Have the salon work with you if somebody botches the job. In response to the employee comment: I did not make the phone call today- why would I call 2.5 months later? I will not be purchasing another haircut from your salon- why would you have stylists who your own staff claim are not very good? read more

This place is a few blocks from my house, so I want to like it. My husband has gotten his hair cut here for years for the convenience, seeing a dozen different stylists because he usually books at the last minute so he just takes whoever is available. Sometimes his hair turns out fine, sometimes we shrug and deal with it for 6-8 weeks until it's time to try again (he's not picky). I'd love to be able to take my kids here and have tried several times, but I always regret it. I haven't found a stylist who cuts their hair well, which I'd overlook if they'd at least wash and dry it. For kid cuts, you can choose between leaving the salon with clean hair OR dry hair.... you can't have both. Why? I have no idea. read more

I first came to Berenices to get my hair done by a few different stylists but now just use it as my go-to place for some brow shaping. Sara is an absolute gift from the tweasing gods. I was nervous at first to get all those pesky hairs removed via plucking only because I used to always wax. Her quick movements and precision make the whole experience not painful at all! Since it's a little on the expensive side and I need this service quite often, I usually go to Sara for a check-in a few times a year. Each time she reshapes my brows in the perfect way to give the other waxers I go to a good outline of how to keep my shape! I will never go here again. I went once and left in tears sobbing. I told my stylist I wanted face framing layers and she told me if I don't regularly style my hair it won't look good. This didn't make sense to me since I've always had layers and have long straight hair that doesn't require a lot of styling. She kept suggesting curtain bangs, but I explained my priority was to be able to pull my hair back for working out/hiking. Also, curtain bangs DO require styling. I probably told her five or six times but she kept pushing bangs so finally I gave in. I am engaged and now have to figure out how to have someone else fix my hair or style it to hide the bangs before taking engagement photos. I felt completely ignored and bullied. My stylist also complained to me that my hair was too thick to blow dry in the 45 min appointment (not my fault). I tipped when I left because it was the right thing to do, but I honestly wish I had walked out without paying. read more

Berenices is a fabulous hair salon!! I got a balayage, trim, and style not too long ago by Zeré, who was very sweet, friendly, and listened to what I was saying. I could not be happier with the results and have gotten so many compliments on my new look! We discussed a few things I had in mind, and then she analyzed my hair type and gave a few suggestions based on her expertise. I felt very confident in her abilities even before she started cutting and coloring. Berenices was super easy to find and I really liked the vibe. A lot of natural light and not a lot of clutter. They even have a spot downstairs that's quiet and comfortable so during your color processing you aren't being stared at by every person who walks in or walks by- super great feature. When I called a week ago desperate for a new stylist because I'm from out of town they hooked me up with Armen after I requested someone who understood curly and thick hair. Armen was magnificent and did exactly what I wanted. He also was very easy to talk to even though we just met and sometimes that's sooo awkward. I felt like I had been there before because everyone was so nice and welcoming when I came in and during my stay. It's always very important to me to have a stylist who listens to your concerns and explains the steps when you're unfamiliar with them and their process. I moved back to Denver 4 years ago and have been searching for my hair person all this time, going to all the top rated salons on Yelp that cost $$$$, but have never found anywhere that wowed me. Moved to Congress park a couple months ago and have been wanting to try berenices, especially bc my old salon before I moved was aveda and my hair always looked flawless back then. I randomly got in with zere and finally was wowed! After searching for literally 4 years for my go to stylist, I am so so happy I stumbled into zeres chair. I feel like I finally found my trusted go to and never want to go anywhere else. What made her so fabulous? First if all, she took the time to ask me questions and really understand what I was going for. It made me feel like she really cared about delivering the look I wanted. She went through all the pricing with me ahead of time- in the past at other salons my stylists never gave me the courtesy of doing that. She gave me her honest professional opinion about what my hair needed to get back in shape, what colors she thought would look good, and i really felt that i could trust her. Her product recommendations were fantastic but I never felt like she was pushing product on me, idk just all her recs were 100 and I trusted her right off the bat. Rightfully so bc she fixed years if damage/choppy coloring from other salons and my hair looks the best it has in years. She was so considerate, confident and talented. I don't consider myself a "princess" type girl at all, but I admit that when I get my hair cut I expect a little bit of the special treatment. Not much, just a little bit of doting would be nice. For a reasonable price, Berenices gave me exactly what I was looking for and for that I will be undoubtedly returning. The atmosphere is relaxed, yet professional. They offered me a water or tea as soon as I sat down, while a woman walked around offering hand massages ( I assumed she worked there...). My stylist knew his stuff and gave me a fantastic haircut AND head massage. I left happy and more relaxed than I have been in a long time. Love it. read more

(GreenScene: The wood floor of the Berenices salon is made up of wood scraps, or mill waste, that is manufactured into panels instead of going into the scary landfill) and sit with one of the talented hair stylists... Miss Minica, is a great pick! A woman with curls, Minica can take on any challenge, and any challenging customer... (That's me!) I have also heard that Robert is good; however, I have never personally had my hair done by him... But you can't miss him; he is always telling his clients some crazy and funny story... That the entire salon can hear. While you wait for your brows or hair to be dyed you can slither on down to the salon's downstairs lounge... Where a big cushy couch embraces you and you can watch TV on the flat screen and enjoy the gas fireplace. The salon even has a computer with the Internet that customers can use. I usually like to search for porn and then leave the screen up.... This always makes the next Internet user uncomfortable. It is down here that the women get their "beautifuls" waxed... as well as other luscious body parts... Well not in this room silly.... (I know what you are thinking) but in the back room, which is also downstairs. If you decided you needed a mani, pedi, or facial.... This would also be the area were the magic would happen. One time when the esthetician was new, she gave me a free hand massage as I waited downstairs and watched TV... I tried to follow her but she told me that it was just for the hands. Whatever, just a tease. After I get my brows waxed by the infamous Sara I usually force her to give me a free makeup application... Even though that is totally illegal because I am not paying her! She just freshens me up because she is kind and knows that I am going home to see my honey. Sara is the Aveda make-up Queen and she travels around the country giving lectures and presentations... You can even hire her for your wedding... or go to her in the salon before that special night-on-the-town. Sara is simply the most fabulous and honest woman... Just talking to her makes it worth it to get an appointment with her. I used to look at Aveda make-up and not be interested, but now I can't get enough of their products, especially the wet foundation. It looks amazing and smells like lavender. (GreenScene: The entire make-up and hair care line uses organic, plant-based ingredients that include non-petroleum mineral ingredients, as well as ethical packaging... And Aveda incorporates sustainable and social corporate practices.) The best part of Berenices is that it is owned by three of the fabulous women hair stylists themselves! This Congress Park salon is definitely not a secret around Denver, and there is good reason for that. * Crimped star number one is for their Feng Shui'd salon space.... Which helps me feel very comfortable every time I visit ** Bobbed star number two is for the salon's commitment to sustainability... Through their products as well as the Feng Shui'd architecture *** Meet curly star number three... She is jazzed up to be here because of the free tv and internet downstairs... **** Shaved star four is for Berenices' crazy name... Which I can only spell right when I look it up online ***** Our final and last star is awarded for B's great neighborhood location (Go Congress Park!), free parking, and their spicy receptionists... Berenices is my neighborhood salon. I went there the first time b/c it's down the street from me. I luckily had Ashley as my hairstylist and she was great. Very sweet and I loved the cut/color I got. I recently went there for a peddy and didn't really like it. I'm used to salons where you sit in a chair that's positioned up high so it's a relaxing position to get your nails done. Well, here you actually put your foot in someone's lap. It was awkward and I kept getting leg twitches since it's not a natural position. Definitely will go back for my hair - but need to find a new place for my nails. read more

I was looking for a new hairdresser and, based solely on Yelp reviews, chose Berenices. I really wish I hadn't. My haircut was fine, but it definitely wasn't great. I asked for a trim/to keep as much length as possible and left with over 4" cut off. I could see 2" because it had been 2-3 months since I had a trim, but it just seemed a bit excessive. I can't recall who cut it (sorry) which I guess is kind of indicative of the whole experience. I walked in and was greeted, waited about 10 minutes past my appointment time, then sat down in the chair. My stylist hardly talked to me but spent plenty of time chatting with other employees about all kinds of things. I've never been to a new salon and felt like they weren't at all interested in me or who I am or what I'm doing or how I found them or anything at all. It was just odd. If the people had been great or the cut had been great, I definitely would have gone back. Unfortunately, neither were impressive and if I'm paying a pretty penny, I want to feel pretty when I leave (maybe even pampered). I didn't look hideous and the salon was clean. The receptionist was polite and it was easy to make an appointment. I wouldn't recommend Berenices and I wouldn't go back, but I guess if you're okay with minimal (personal) interaction and have a bit of flexibility with your cut, it could be great. read more

This review is just for Heather who I had today doing my eyelash tint. I have great long eyelashes but they are pretty light in color. She tinted them in brown and now my eyes pop. She was right on time for my appointment. Discussed the product and what I wanted. She took care in making sure my skin was protected from any dye too. End result was great coverage and no stains on my skin. Will be going back for sure because of Heather and the nice location. Might I point out plenty of easy free parking around. read more

I've had a lot of haircuts and I can say with certainty that the haircut I got at Berenices last Friday was the best one I've had yet. I have curly hair... and I mean really really curly hair. Some salons have decent stylists who can handle my hair, and some have stylists who appear to be deer in the headlights. I took the plunge and tried another new salon in the hunt for a good haircut to complement a new job. A call to Berenices' kind front desk staff suggested a variety of stylists in a variety of prices. Being Thursday afternoon before my desired Friday haircut, I was being risky anyway. Melissa was recommended and I won the lottery! She was amazing. Knew what to do, was confident and kind and did and incredible job. She took the time to blow dry and straighten my insanely curly hair (and the cut she did looked fabulous straight) and once I washed it, the cut was equally great curly. I'm definitely going back to Melissa and Berenices. The staff is savvy, smart and friendly and the salon is clean, welcoming and affordable. read more

I have been going to this salon for years and have worked with multiple stylists there. Currently, Andrea is cutting my hair and it looks great. She always listens to what I want and styles it however I want to wear it that day. She also wants to hear from you afterwards, which is lovely. I want to preface this review by saying that when I explained this to a manager, I was reimbursed for my cut. That being said, my experience here still isn't sitting right with me. I had gotten my hair cut at Berenice's once before, and it was fine. When I returned for a second cut, I was assigned a different stylist. I asked for a straight cut sitting a bit above the shoulders, with no layers, and showed three pictures for reference. The stylist insisted we should flat-iron my hair before cutting it, but within five minutes of straightening had run out of time for my appointment. Another colleague then assisted, and they both violently tugged at my hair with a hot hair dryer and hair straightener for a good ten minutes before giving up. All the while, the stylist had spun my back to the mirror so I could not see what was going on. Then, with my hair half frizzy from a blow dryer and half stick straight from a flat iron, the stylist proceeded to cut my hair without me being able to see anything in the mirror. The result is a completely rounded haircut, not even closely resembling anything I had shown. The hair closest to my neck is about two inches longer than the outer edges. The hair on one side of my head also lies about 1 inch shorter than the other side. All I wanted was a straight, even cut. I was ushered out of the salon looking absurd, and feeling awful. The pure lack of skill and diligence I witnessed that day is just shocking. Like I said - I was reimbursed, so at least the management was gracious about it, but you can't undo a terrible haircut. I do not recommend this salon to anyone that doesn't have stick-straight hair. read more

I should have updated this a while ago, but it really has taken me a while to get over the hair cut. The day after my hair cut, I spoke to Lisa, one of the owners. She was extremely sympathetic and nice on the phone. I then emailed her before and after shots as well as a scan of the photo I wanted. She was very prompt on refunding my money. Additionally, while I still strongly dislike the cut and am growing it out, a lot of people commented on how great it looked. Like I said previously, it was a good cut just not what I wanted at all. So I'm bumping it up to two stars for good customer service from one of the owners and receiving a quality cut (that I didn't want). read more
