I should have updated this a while ago, but it really has taken me a while to get over the hair cut. The day after my hair cut, I spoke to Lisa, one of the owners. She was extremely sympathetic and nice on the phone. I then emailed her before and after shots as well as a scan of the photo I wanted. She was very prompt on refunding my money. Additionally, while I still strongly dislike the cut and am growing it out, a lot of people commented on how great it looked. Like I said previously, it was a good cut just not what I wanted at all. So I'm bumping it up to two stars for good customer service from one of the owners and receiving a quality cut (that I didn't want). read more

Place was lovely. aesthetician, not so much. I believe her name was sylvie. I had an appointment to get a facial and brows tinted, and she was rude and acted like she was annoyed, I didn't even want to speak after some time because I felt like more of a nuisance and that she would prefer things to be silent. Plus, the quality of my facial and brows was not good. I think I will just go to a different place next time. Such a shame. read more

I switched to Berenices about 8 months ago and I have been completely happy with my stylist, Melissa, and the service from everyone. I would definitely recommend this salon to someone looking for a good change. Melissa listens to what I want and has good suggestions for how I can style & take care of my hair. Finding a good hair stylist can be as difficult as finding a good boyfriend. I know a lot of women that aren't completely happy with their stylist but, choose to stay because the idea of finding someone new and risking a bad do is terrifying. However, Colleen at Berenice's was like finding the perfect boyfriend. I have been going to her for over 2 years now and I have referred several friends to her skilled hands. To give you some back ground she is a color specialist and teaches on color at the academy. So when it was time to highlight my red under-toned brown hair, I knew the perfect golden hue would be delivered. She has always given me an amazing hair cut and NEVER cut too much. I donated my long locks to cancer through Beautiful Lengths and to take 8 inches and have me feeling exuberant and sassy with my new short hair was quite a large task. My daughter moved to Denver a year ago and went to Kim on the recommendation of a friend. I loved her hair color so much, that I made an appointment when I went to visit her. It was the most enjoyable hair experience I have ever had. Kim listened to what I wanted in color and cut, she took her time applying TONS of foils to get the dimension I was lacking, and I didn't want the wash and rinse to end. The end result was AMAZING! I told my husband that he will need to fly me to Denver every 6 weeks, as I don't want anyone else to touch my hair! Kim was so enjoyable to talk to and made my entire experience the best hair experience I have ever had. The salon is so cute and the staff was very friendly. I see Sarah for eyebrow shaping - she does a great job with little fuss - it's quick and painless, all while giving me her full attention. I must admit I'm surprised she remembers me each time, as I go months and months between shaping (I maintain pretty well on my own) but I'm especially impressed because it is clear she is very busy there, so to remember an occasional client is very sweet. I have also seen Heather for waxing and brow and lash tinting. She does a wonderful job too... very engaging but never too personal, considering the intimate nature of some of the procedures. I am definitely a fan, giving four stars only because scheduling is difficult for me. They have a great online scheduling system, but for someone who works 8-5 Monday - Friday it's hard to get in without taking time off work - and who wants to go back to work with red eyebrows?! Certainly, it's not their fault that I have to work for a living... but still, that's the only problem I have with Berenices... They'd have to clone Sarah in order to provide more convenient scheduling! I've also had waxing services and eyebrow, eyelash dying... with another aethestician, whose name escape me right now. I've been here several times never a complaint however I had to use someone new for color n cut met w him showed exactly the color. 5 hrs into appt he was adamant about using lilac instead I was very leery but agreed to try I thought it would be highlights. It was eeh ok at first look but next day i was like no my hair was lilac not for a 55 yr old plus it was very damaged and definitely not what I came for I had to go to my moms to put her in hospice so even though I called expressed my unhappiness n sent several E. emails I could not get any help. My hair is now white all over looks like crap. It cost 180.00 to look like crap n they can only offer me to go to same person to fix.uuuuh I doubt it... so they refuse to refund a crap job n damaged hair. So if u wanna pay 180.00 for ugly hair go right ahead. read more

I researched this place and chose it with high hopes and was extremely disappointed. The overall place and environment was nice but my haircut was not. My appointment was with Andrea who was a super sweet hairstylist but did not cut my hair well. I came in with a reference picture and after talking with her I decided to do something different. I asked for layers, face-framing pieces, and some shorter pieces in the front. She ended up giving me thick, heavy bangs that were not blended into the rest of my hair and just looked like a 5 year old took scissors to my head. Instead of giving me layers she just cut it in one straight line and when I asked if she could give me layers she didn't really cut any. Andrea also kept knotting my hair with her hands when she would touch my scalp to try to "fluff" it or something and then after would try to brush out the knots she put in and would pull really hard. I strongly dislike my hair and would recommend others look elsewhere for a hair salon. It is not worth the price of it and how long it will take your hair to grow back. read more

I came here to get my eyebrows done on a recommendation from a friend. When I walked in, the salon was super busy, which is a good sign, until they sat me literally in front of the cash registers and the other customers waiting in their seats to get my eyebrows done. I had heard that these guys were great at shaping, so having to sit in the front didn't initially phase me. The technician started tweezing away and when it came to tinting my eyebrows asked "do you want it on the darker side so it fades, or just right?". Since I had some holiday parties to go to, I requested "just right". After all was said and done, my eyebrows looked like black caterpillars sitting on my face. At first I figured I'd see if it grew on me. I was headed to CA for a holiday party and decided to go to another salon for a spray tan. As that spa gal was getting me ready for my tan she said "honey, your eyebrows do not work for your face". She felt so bad for me that she fixed them for free! Needless to say, I will not be going back to Berenices. I'm bummed because I like to frequent the neighborhood hot spots, and it is super cute ... but my face thanks me. read more

I saw Amanda at Berenices today for a standard hair cut. The salon itself seemed rather new and clean, which I think created a lot of noise as hair dryers and conversation bounced off of pretty open and bare walls. However, it was very clean and well maintained. Amanda was my stylist and I can't say enough good things about her demeanor as a stylist. She welcomed me and then proceeded to get right down to business. I told her I wanted just a trim, and I wasn't very specific. She asked questions and really made sure she knew what my vision was before she dove in, which resulted in one of the best looking haircuts I've ever gotten. She started with a lovely head and neck massage, then shampooed me, cut my hair, blow dried and then styled it. All the while, she was educating me about what products she used and why she was using them without being at all pushy about making a sale. She did a wonderful job and I will be back to Berenices to see her. I wasn't at all disappointed in her handy work! read more

Disappointed! I had an appointment with Ashley recently for color and highlights, who passed me off to "Frank". I sat for an hour and 10 minutes of processing, which made my hair very dry and damaged. My recommendation to Berenices would be use timers for processing and not have customers retreat to the lower level to be forgotten after being handed off to someone other than my stylist, especially at a price tag of $199 not including the tip for Color/Highlights only. read more

I was definately disappointed and frustrated. I had my hair colored and 4 days later it had "faded" so badly that the color was gone. When I went back to have the color redone, they charged me!!! Not even two weeks later, the second color again "faded". When I talked to the manager, she said it was "just my hair". I spent $200.00 dollars the first time and $120.00 the second time (got a friends and family discount) Thanks for nothing. read more

Had such a lovely cut with Mary. She's incredibly skilled and I love my hair, but it was her friendliness that really made an impression. I was a Berenices customer when I first moved to Denver. I left them to follow one of their stylists to a different salon. Big mistake. After a few years of floating around salon to salon, I finally got it together and came back to Berenices. This salon is great! Besides being an Aveda salon, the staff is extremely professional and always courteous and genuinely nice. They are super down to earth, and you don't get any of that attitude that some salons have. Mary has been doing my color for a while now, and she has amazing talent. I've got very dark hair that I like to go very blonde, and her talent in choosing the right colors that look natural is spectacular. She's also great with styling for special occasions and her haircuts are on point to make you look the best. My foils usually take a while to set, and they have a nice area downstairs with a fireplace and large TV and blankets to relax. I've been to so many different places in Denver, and this place is the best hands down. read more

I live close to Berenices, so when I moved here I figured I'd just go to the hair place that I could walk too. After having a couple haircuts I have settled on Elizabeth, who is great! She does well with men's hair obviously, and I now go to her every time. Everyone at Berenices is super nice, and it's located in a cute little section of Congress Park that also has a wine bar, put type restaurant, ice cream place, cafe, pizza place, and drug/liquor store. read more

Berenice's is fantastic. I randomly ended up with an appointment with Armen at another salon years ago, and was hooked on his skills immediately. I thought I'd lost him, but it turns out he'd upgraded to Berenice's! The staff here is super welcoming and friendly. When I walk in, whether it's to buy product or get a cut, the front desk team is always attentive and helpful. And as for Armen, there's a reason I searched all over town for him - he is wonderful. Armen is a fantastic stylist and I always leave our appointments feeling (and looking!) fantastic. It is clear that the staff at Berenice's value creating an experience at their salon. My wife has been going here for years and has been pleased with the service she has gotten from Ashley. She went a month ago and expected the same great service as usual, but that WASN'T the case! Ashley applied the color treatment and it didn't stay. Her hair looked the same as before. She asked her to please redo the service and Ashley was less then pleasant. Ashley stated that it was because her hairdo was out dated, which has nothing to do with coloring! Pleased with previous service, but apparently someone doesn't know customer service! It's been a few months since my haircut and I'm still very upset every time I try to deal with the mess this salon made out of my hair. A couple years ago one of the stylists botched my very simple haircut--long straight cut with bangs--and another stylist had to try to repair it. For the next TWO years I worked with Paisley and Mary to get the crazy layers to grow out. Both stylists left and I was sent to Luis. That was ok for several months--until I brought in a photo and asked him to do something different with my bangs and continue the process of evening up the ends of the rest of my long hair. INSTEAD for some unknown reason he cut LAYERS into the back which I didn't realize until the next time I had to style it. My hair will NOT lay flat or turn under. It looks chewed/torn. The manager offered for me to come back in and wanted to use this as a teachable moment for Luis. Never offered EITHER time to refund my money. I'm left with waiting years for this mess to grow out or having a REALLY short haircut. STAY AWAY from this place. There is simply no way to tell who the "good" stylists are until it's too late. read more

Horrible. Came in for a cut & color to hide my grays. I saw Louis, nobody bothered to tell me he has no experience. I was in pain due to his constant tugging at my hair. He applied color so sloppily my skin now has brown spots near my hairline. The color is too dark, the stringy highlights he added actually mimic gray hair due to their contrast with the dark base color, ugh! I finally had to ask him to stop after he cut a massive chunk of hair in an attempt to give me bangs. Ashley finished the cut and did her best to fix his mistakes. After all was said & done I had been at this salon for FIVE hours! I was forced to cancel plans I had that afternoon bc Louis took so long. I had to pay for the color without being given a chance to even properly look at it. I refused to pay for the cut. My advice is to stay away from this place! read more

I recently moved back to denver after living in New York, where, I had gotten my hair done every couple weeks and was extremely happy with it. After moving to a smaller town seemingly with less style and expertise in the hair department, i was very reluctant to trust anyone and I procrastinated getting my hair done here in Denver out of fear and trepidation as to how it would turn out, would it be awful? Look no further than Berenices. Minica DeHerrera is the most amazing stylist ever!!! Every experience I had with the salon from making my appointment, to getting my usual haircut and color was beyond exceptional. Friendly, non pretentious, and a down to earth attitude made me feel so comfortable. I also loved the downstairs area that has television, computers and magazines to enjoy while the color was processing. It was a real treat and i will be a customer for life. I left Berenices feeling like a new woman, and my hair was like a doll's. A+++++++++.... Highly recommended. read more

I have been seeing Sarah for my brows for at least 5 years now. Sarah is fabulous, her skill with brows and makeup speaks for itself. For me though what really stands out is that she gives all her clients her full attention. She is one of the owners and is so genuinely friendly and warm. Over the years, she has donated to my kid's school fundraisers, squeezed me in during her lunch hour to accommodate my work schedule, and treats my kids so warmly when i am forced to bring them in tow. She truly is a gem! My kids also get their haircuts here and always come away with smiles on their faces, looking like models for the day! I am embarrassed that is has taken Me so long to sing Berenice's praises, and i have to admit that what finally got me to do it, is that I was motivated to write a poor review of daily scoop next door where I mentioned in that review the contrast in customer service to Berenice's. Made me realize I needed to give Berenice's its due! read more

I've been going to Bernices for a little less than a year now. I am currently at school in Los Angeles, and refuse to get my hair cut there because I finally found a stylist that I like. While I think that reviews on a salon don't make a ton of sense (because one's experience is pretty much all based on the single stylist), I would point anyone towards Melissa. I am a control-freak about my hair. Aren't we all ladies? And distinctly remember my mother commenting the first time I got my hair cut by Melissa that for once, I did not seem distraught over my cut. She listens to exactly what I want, and then spends loads of time getting the cut right. On top of that her hair cuts are only $35, which really isn't bad, for something that you wear every day. So you should make sure to tip well. read more
