Literally just left Bergen Spa and it was AMAZING. It felt like longer than the 60 minutes because it was so relaxing. My boyfriend enjoyed it too. We both didn't want it to end. You should definitely check in and get the extra 10 min. Every minute is worth it. And the prices are just as great as the massages. The only recommendation I would have is if they asked before the massage how hard or soft you wanted the pressure of the massage and if you have any sensitive areas. I almost kicked the lady in the face when she touched my feet because I'm SUPER ticklish. After that she knew , my feet were off limit. Didn't take away from how great it was. I usually get my massages in chinatown but wanted to try something more local to my neighborhood in Brooklyn and this place looked great with great reviews! While it's very clean and beautiful aesthetic my therapist didn't seem very knowledgeable and he seemed distracted. I asked for deep tissue and it was definitely not deep tissue. I told him about a problem area which was the main reason I was going and he barely paid any attention to it. For someone looking for just a back rub this would've been fine but I'm a dance looking for a serious deep tissue massage. The 'reflexology' was better and felt nice but definitely not true reflexology more just a generic foot rub. I was highly disappointed and did not feel better afterwards. I rely on reviews when looking for new massage places so felt the need to share. While it was probably just specific to my therapist and not a match it was a highly disappointing experience and a waste of money in my opinion. I will not be back. read more

I agree with the reviewer who said it's inconsistent. It's a nice space and some of the staff there are quite good, but my most recent massage, earlier today, was pretty abysmal. The woman clearly had had no real training in massage and seemed to be just imitating massage moves in a clumsy and often painful way. The worst thing is that I know some of the staff there are talented and professional, so it is really frustrating to watch people around me getting really good foot massages while mine is haphazard - and way less than a half hour - and then being led grimly into the massage room for an amateur hour massage. My neck actually hurts from the way she was aggressively pushing on it. Then I have to pay for this?? (I told the woman who checked me out that it was subpar, but she pretty much just shrugged and asked for my credit card). Come on, guys. Hire professionals and do not train them on the job. You do a disservice to your conscientious employees as well as your customers. I'm giving 3 stars for the good employees but not sure I'll be back anytime soon... too bad UPDATE: Dear Jian, thank you for your response. I have no problem speaking up about pressure - if it were simply a matter of too hard or too soft I would not have written this. It was an unprofessional, unpleasant massage. Athe start of the massage I indicated where I needed work, yet she seemed to focus instead on the other side. I was looking for a place to get a good massage in this area. I get really hesitant about going to new places, because you just never know what to expect. This place really was great. The prices are out of control amazing. Such an incredible deal. I got a 60 min back massage with a 30 min foot massage and it was $68. Yes. $68. The staff was friendly and professional. There is a little bit of a language barrier.... but it wasn't a problem at all. The massage was great and the place was well decorated and very clean. I will definitely go back!! read more

Perfect reflexology massage. Just sitting in those ultra comfy recliners is a treat. They cover you with a blanket and cover the foot they are not working on so you don't get cold. The place is super quiet, with dim lighting and enough space between chairs to zone out. I did a session during a break at work when I was scheduled for a very long day, and it was wonderfully relaxing and refreshing. I nearly fell asleep. I'm so happy this is close to work. read more

My question also.....what happened?? Let's start with common courtesy...when you answer a phone you ask if you can put the party on hold!! Not just spiel it your rehearsed answer and click hold. Still on courtesy, when someone enters and there are 3 people sitting behind the desk, someone makes eye contact/says hello/asks if they an help/ states they'll be with you on a moment. Nope. One on the phone, the other 2 watching. When I called them out, one said she was in training (hasn't been taught to say hello yet?!?) and the other is a therapist.....not an acceptable excuse either. Now let's talk about "walkins welcome"...a falsehood. I have yet to be accommodated as a walk-in, in fact usually cannot get an appt even 2-3 days out. Unfortunately, this behavior is also at corporate , where customer service just hung up on me! They also will not tell you the owner's name d/t privacy concerns...."the way things are in today's society........." Shame on you for being in the service industry! read more

Came here with my boyfriend for a couple's massage and we loved it! We chose the 30 minute foot/30 minute back combo. The whole place is very relaxing, the music and atmosphere really help to make it a soothing experience. Our foot massages were really good but the back massage was sooooo amazing. They used hot stones and a hot towel at the end, which surprised me but was probably one of my favorite parts. They were super responsive to any comments or requests we made. Just got back from Bergen Spa after an amazing massage. I've been in pain most of the day and yesterday after an overly aggressive week of work outs, a mild cold - coupled with my advanced age of 47 - and realized I needed a massage... My wife and I heard good things about Bergen Spa and decided to see if we could book for today. Not only were we able to book a couples massage; the price was only $48 each. We walked in and immediately noticed the place is very clean and classy. And for the first time I got a therapist that actually gave a strong massage. I immediately felt less muscle pain afterwards and felt as if I could hit the gym right away. I went to this massage spot recently to treat my mom and myself for a massage. My mom went the first time and said it was good. The second time around the same could not be said.  The place first of all was pretty empty yet my mom and I received very tired massages. They employees seemed tired or didn't in my opinion put much pressure or effort into the massage. At no point did anyone ask who hard or soft I would like the massage. To me this is important to make sure that people are getting what they need. My 30 min foot massage didn't have as much pressure as I would like. I don't know if that's how reflexology goes. Lots of pressure points were pressed along my foot,  which was uncomfortable and painful at times. I couldnt relax with that. All I know is that i wanted a good foot rub, and instead received a poking and pulling session. Reflexology isn't for everyone I guess. Then I had a 30min back rub.  Same thing.  It hurt like heck.  The guy used his elbow to massage the area adjacent to my spine and it hurt a lot. He proceeded to do this all along my pack. Too much pressure was applied at certain parts of the massage. Again, no one asked if the pressure was too much or how I'd like the pressure adjusted. I couldn't relax with this massage either. My mom had a similar experience. I won't return. They need to ask ppl how much pressure they would like and not assume. This was my first visit and my moms second but it will surely be the last. I don't know if their workers are tired, but I wasn't impressed read more

I have terrible stiffness and pain in my neck and shoulders from working at a computer all day with bad posture. My masseuse was incredible at finding all the areas of tension in my back, including places I didn't even realize were tight until she targeted them. She had a firm hand but could sense when it got too much when my breathing pattern changed or I moved involuntarily and would check in with me. I think she would've been gentler if I had asked her to, but I needed the deep tissue treatment. As others have mentioned, the space is clean, the price is good and everyone there was friendly. Had a great 70min massage! My masseuse checked in with me on the pressure throughout and made it a relaxing experience. The spa has quiet rooms with walls to the ceiling to offer more privacy and reduce noise from other customers and there is nice music in the background. BE CAREFUL! While the venue is lovely and rather serene, these are not professionally trained massage therapists! You may leave in worse shape than when you arrived. I had the 60 min. back massage and I could tell right away that this would not be comparable to massages I had at Bliss Spa or Massage Envy but I gave it a shot. An hour after my massage, I had pain in my shoulder blades. The next day I had pain in my lower back and shoulder blades. To preface this is my first yelp review ever. I've come to this place probably between 10-20 times. Sometimes the massage is great, sometimes it's just fine but I've always had a positive experience so continue to return. That's why there's two stars for all the great times I've come before today's experience. Today, however, my fiance and I came in for a couples massage and I had a very unprofessional and odd experience. To start, the woman barely massaged my body but just poked and prodded the entire time. At many times she literally just pulled on my skin and stretched my body in weird aggressive ways. Some felt good, but she literally did not rub my back at all. Multiple times I said "I don't like that", like when she squished my stomach and pushed all of her weight onto my gut. Still she continued to do exactly what I asked her not to. My finance was in the room and heard me many times! She also used so much oil and got it all over my hair - she seemed at times to actually just be rubbing oil into my hair. I've been to many places including this one and they're always cautious to not get it all over your hair. Of course, you expect that you may get some on you but my hair actually looked wet when I was done. Next, a few times she hovered... planked over my body and used her knees and feet to massage my lower back, glutes and legs. I've had my fair share of NYC massages and know that it isn't uncommon for them to straddle you to massage but this was just so weird and uncomfortable. She also had the worst sense of privacy and kept pulling the towel down past my chest, didn't hold the towel up when asking me to turn over... Again, this stuff really doesn't bother me personally but in all my massages I've never experienced such unprofessionalism. I asked her a few times to focus on my neck and shoulders as this was a problem area.. she would do it for about 20 seconds and go back to bending my arms and legs in weird ways. Towards the end, she put a hot wet towel covering up my entire face except my nose which I've never seen before. They rubbed my face hard with it, pushing into my eyeballs and teeth, It was very odd. She actually stuck her fingers into my ears. Lastly, as she was finishing up and leaving - my pants and sweatshirt must've fallen off the hooks sometime during the massage. As she left the room she picked them up and threw them on my laying body without saying a word. It was so rude! I'm not good with confrontation and felt really bad complaining to the front desk as she was following me around after eagerly waiting for a tip but I think it's important the establishment knows that this type of service is not okay and should train all their staff, even the older generation staff on modern day professionalism. read more
