When a workplace lacks diversity or the employees share personal relationships with the manager it is apparent in their lack of professionalism, failed diligence in performing assigned tasks, & attitude towards patients/customers in general. This office in general is very unpleasant, I wouldn't recommend this location to anyone under any circumstance. The worst of it all being the women in optical. After my eye exam, I was directed to a spanish and English speaking lady in her mid to late 40's with obscene nails that had the most sarcastic and discourteous attitude. She was very impatient and I felt as if I was more of a bother to her than a patient. When I finally picked up my glasses, I started having headaches, eye strain, vision distortions to my right eye almost immediately after putting them on. After doing some research I discovered that these signs were common with an inaccurate P.D (pupillary distance) measurement. I called the office to ask what they had my P.D. as, and they said 62. I asked how they got that number and they told me it was from the person in optical's measurements. NO ONE in optical measured anything with me the day I was there, before or after choosing my glasses. Nor did they ask if I knew what my PD could be. The Spanish and English speaking lady that assisted me the day of my initial visit apparently just wrote a random number in my paperwork and sent me off. I had to leave work early, face 610 & 1-10 traffic and come back for someone to actually measure my P.D. because my glasses were causing me extreme discomfort. This time there was an older lady there appx in her early 70's. I told her what happened and that I was there to get my P.D. measured due to the problems my glasses had been causing me. Upon measuring it, I asked if I could know what my numbers were. She then asked me "what do you want the number for". I said to her that I would just like to know it. She then says "why? , are you trying to order glasses online or something?" At that point it was apparent she was uncomfortable giving me my PD number. I then told her very respectfully that "this number is a part of my medical record, is there a policy that prohibits patients from having their medical records given to them at this facility"? She then (very reluctantly) proceeds to hand me a paper that had two different numbers listed. I asked what the different numbers meant, at that point she explained they were the distance for each eye and if I needed the number I should do the math and subtract them to get the P.D. Unbelievably rude. Well, I did the math myself & then requested that my glasses after the correct P.D. lenses were replaced be sent to Berkeley on Weslayan for me to pick up from There instead. I couldn't bear coming back to this location with such rude, callous, impatient, lackadaisical employees. Absolutely TERRIBLE experience. Fortunately I had the opposite encounter at the Wesleyan location. Everyone I interacted with was extremely nice, polite, detail oriented and enthusiastic. The optical specialist at their Weslayan location was shocked that my PD was off almost 13 points initially and was extremely apologetic about the stress & inconvenience it cost me. Avoid Berkeley's memorial city location. And if u go please make sure they do the right thing and take proper measurements & allow you to take ur time and find the frames that you will love. In additional, don't allow them intimidate you into not getting ur medical information if you need them. It is your right as a patient! read more

Awful experience. First, had some exam/testing done, then was supposed to see the doctor. I was relocated to a waiting area. 1.5 hours I sat in that room before someone passed by and asked if I was waiting on someone. I told her I was in there waiting to see the doctor for my appointment. They found my record, got me in to see a doctor, finally, but not even a single utterance of apology. Apparently the person that did the initial exam and testing brought me to the wrong area, and put my record in the wrong box. Also taking a ridiculously long time getting my updated prescription glasses to me. Today, I'm still just trying to find out when my new prescription will be ready to collect. Once again, put on hold. Even though I knew, from prior experience they would never answer a person that's on hold, I kept my phone on for 4.5 hours, and was still on hold when their office closed for the day. I'd used visionworks before, but since moving, and Berkeley was much closer, decided to give them a try out. Big mistake. Once I finally get my updated prescription glasses, I will not be returning. read more

Berkeley Eye Center at Katy, the doctors are excellent, but the nurses are the worst I ever see. On August visit, they randomly sent my medicine to pharmacy 30 miles away. When I asked them to change, they refused. And on September, I visited that office again, and O told me to change my pharmacy, they are ok, but then they sent to the 30 miles away phaymacy again. I told them it is wrong one, but they refuse to change. This location has the worst nurses on the world. read more

They're seeing my my - with Alzheimer's today. Once they got her checked in they asked about my son. They are so patient and caring with her. They care about their patients. I am so mad right now. I went there to have my eye pressure check and get eye drops for Glaucoma, the doctor recommended a laser treatment to increase the eye drops effectiveness, I wasn't sure about it but they said that my insurance would cover it as long as I would do each eye on two different days so I agreed only to find out today (after having my second eye done) that my insurance will not actually cover the total cost of the procedure and that I have to pay a little over $320 per eye!!!! Meaning close to $650 out of pocket and I didn't know this until today! This is a $650 mistake because had I known that, I would have probably not taken the laser. It's so irresponsible of them not to tell me at first and now I have to put this money that I was not planning on in my credit card. Unbelievable! I am so mad and so disappointed because their doctors are actually good, but they were not honest/clear about this at first and now I'm the one that needs to figure out how to pay. I hope someone from the management contacts me because it is not fair and I will most likely be changing doctors after this if I don't get some sort of agreement, discount, apology, etc etc etc It's just not right. read more

This was the worst eye appointment experience I have ever had. These people were unfriendly and extremely businesslike. The only exception was the receptionist. After that the experience got steadily worse. I was charged an extra $39 because I did not want eyedrops. The extra charge was not explained to me, and when I got out to the billing station, I was told about the addition to my bill. The woman at the billing station said that it had been explained to me when I first entered the building. However, I knew that was not true, but I had no way of proving it. She was unprofessional and argumentative, and just plain rude. I will never go back to that place. read more

Eye disease runs in my family and Dr Yankelove and staff have always taken my family history into consideration when I go in for my yearly check ups. Just recently visited for my 2019 check up and ordered glasses as well. The optometrist at the office worked with me and my ever changing mind to pick the best frames for my face, she even worked up the cost of a few options so I would know my portion of the bill. I've been going to Dr. YankeIove for years. I have super weird eyeballs and he knows how to deal with them. When I was younger, I wore hard contacts for a short period of time, but never grew accustomed to the discomfort. It took me several different soft contacts (I can only wear toric lenses and the brands are very limited) before finding one that worked for me. A year or so ago, this brand decided to change up their formula and it didn't agree with my eyes. Dr. Yankelove and his team spent countless hours finding a different toric lens that would work for my eyes. I had to come in for multiple fittings to make sure they worked for me. These lenses were recently on back order, but Jose (one of the amazing techs) called me several times to make sure they got to me on time. Great service. Great people. read more

I was due for an eye exam. Berkeley Eye Center was the provider for my insurance. I had the eye exam and received new glasses on January 20, 2022. They charged me $579.60. I thought this was pretty steep considering that I could go to any eye exam facility and get an exam and glasses for about $120 with no insurance. I paid it with a credit card. Then they had the gall to send me another bill for $25. I am on a Medicare plan. When I called my insurance provider (April 21) I was told that I should never have paid more than $50, which was my co-pay. And because I was on a Medicare plan, I should never been sent an additional bill. My insurance company also had sent them a check so they were paid twice. I sent Berkeley a letter stating that they owed me money. I sent this the next day and not only have I not received a check for the money THEY OWE ME, I haven't heard at all. And they do not answer their phone. If I could give them Minus stars, I would. read more

My entire experience at Berkeley was really great! It is very apparent that all the staff in Dr. Yankelove's office sincerely care for their patients. From the first time I walked in for my initial LASIK exam, I was very impressed with the professionalism and functionality of the office. Brenda Castillo and Dr. Yankelove were very helpful and spent time answering my questions and made sure I had all the information I needed. Between my initial exam and my surgery, the quality of service did not falter. All the staff are super friendly and treat you like you've been a patient there all your life. I've worn glasses or contacts since I was 8 and now after LASIK, I see WAY better than I ever knew I could! I felt like Berkeley Eye Center shuttles people in and out just for the money. Two out of three people who worked with me didn't even introduce themselves; one of them was the main doctor - I only knew it was him because his picture was up on the wall. He spent about 3 minutes with me and then just left. Didn't ask how I was doing or ask if I had any questions. I honestly felt that the only person who attempted to make small talk with me was the person taking care of the billing. Additionally, at other places, I am usually given one contact lens sample to take home and try out. Here, I was given none. At other eye doctors I am usually provided with plastic sunglasses to keep the light out after having eyes dilated, but here, none were given. Rest assured I will not be coming back to this place or recommending it to others. read more

I had LASIK surgery with Dr. Yankelove last week and I had a great experience! Brenda is your LASIK contact in the office and she's with you every step of the way; that continuity of care was really reassuring. One of the other things I appreciated was that they never left me waiting; everyone was prompt and professional. The surgery itself takes about 15 minutes and they tell you what's going on, so you know exactly how long each step will take. Quick Summary - 2 hours 15 minutes they kept me there, $105 they tried to up-sell me, 20 days for glasses instead of the 7 days promised. I'll find another doctor's office that cares more about their patient satisfaction & schedule. I was there for a 2 hours and 15 minutes, they put me in 2 different waiting rooms and 2 different patient rooms. When I arrived I was super hungry and asked if they were on time and the lady was so rude, she told me, "As far as I know they are," so I didn't go eat. I should have. They would not give me a contacts prescription unless I paid a $75 extra, even though I knew which brand I wanted and have used it for years (I don't need to pay you to put contacts in like I do every morning; I already know they fit). They also tried to charge an extra $40 instead of using the free dilating drops. I of course said no, but I heard them up-sell an elderly woman who didn't know any better. For my glasses, they quoted me $300 and when I asked the lady for cheaper options and she rolled her eyes and acted like I was asking a lot from her. When I checked out she told me it would be a week for my glasses; so then I called after 10 days (they did not call me), and all they could say was that the estimated arrival was 20 days from the date of my order. I had a surgery and couldn't wear contacts so I had to go through the surgical ward half blind without my glasses. I'll find another doctor's office that cares more about their patient satisfaction & schedule. read more

Katy Freeway Location - Reasonably quick service, although don't expect to see doctor for more than a few minutes. My biggest issue with them, that I have never experienced with another doctor was their apparent 'bait and switch' technique of telling you what you want to hear with your insurance and your out of pocket cost, then coming back and charging more than what they told you when you visit. I asked them several times before my first visits, during, and then when I left what the charges would be and would my insurance company cover it and multiple people said yes it was all covered. There are too many other places out there to deal with people that won't give you the courtesy of telling you up front what the costs are and abiding by that statement. read more

I'm 34 years old and I've had to deal with contacts and glasses since I was in grade school. I always wanted lasik but was told 10 years ago I didn't qualify. Recently I decided to stop by Berkeley Eye Center for a consultation. All the staff was great and very informative. I was surprised Dr Yankelove took the time to meet me during my initial consult and explain everything, then he told me the best news ever, I was a candidate for lasik. I informed him I was told I wasn't eligible 10 years ago because the Dr said my cornea was too thin. He informed me I was well above the needed cornea thickness and explained how your eyes change over the years. I went ahead with the procedure and couldn't be happier. Best money I have ever spent! The procedure itself is quick and painless. After the procedure I can honestly say I had no pain or discomfort. I was surprised since people I know who have gotten lasik said after surgery you will have irritation, dryness, etc but not I. The next day i woke up and for the first time in a long time I didn't have to worry about putting in my contacts or wearing my glasses, that feeling was great. I can't stop raving about the procedure and Dr Yankelove and all the members at Berkeley Eye Center. The staff at the Berkeley Eye Center for my LASIK procedure was top notch. Everyone that I saw and came into counter with was very caring and polite. Dr. Yankelove and his nurses truely care for their patients and want you to have the best vision possible. You can tell alot about a business by it's employees and everyone here seems to get along great and love what they do! I have been going to Berkeley Eye Center for the past few years since I moved to Houston and have always received great service. Recently, my contacts really started bothering me and would move around a lot on my eye. My husband had the same issue and he decided to get the Free LASIK Consultation before going and spending money with an eye visit. If he wasn't a candidate, he didn't lose out on anything and then would go see his normal eye doctor at Berkeley. After his visit was so great, I decided the same thing to get my FREE LASIK Consultation. They conducted a few eye tests, Dr. Yankelove came to look at my eyes through the microscope, and they thoroughly explained the process to me with some short videos. I also had some dry eye issues with my contacts, but Dr. Yankelove prescribed me some antibiotics and suggested a few things to try to help out. Dr. Yankelove's staff at Berkeley Center also described all my LASIK costs up front during my consultation so there were no surprises. Everything was included in the price they gave me except the eye drops used around the surgery, but they informed me of this ahead of time. I scheduled my LASIK Pre-appointment, Day of procedure, and post-op appointment. I also was to not wear my contacts 2 weeks before the procedure, but since they bothered me so much stopped right after my consultation and wore my glasses. On the day before my procedure, I had my Pre-Op appointment where they did more tests to double check my vision and see what needed to be done to make my vision perfect during the operation. They explained again the entire procedure and how my visit the next day would work. On the day of the procedure, my husband dropped me off and they took me back to get my eyelids cleaned (wiped down to remove bacteria), put in numbing drops, and get my Valium to help with the nervousness of the experience. After a little while they took me back to the operating room and I laid down in the chair. Once I was in there they put many more stronger numbing drops into my eyes. This did not hurt at all since my eyes were already a little numb from before. I informed the main nurse in the operation suite that I didn't think my Valium had kicked in yet and she made sure to wait a little more before I felt comfortable to start. The procedure only took a few minutes and I felt absolutely no pain whatsoever! They prepare you and tell you that you might feel a lot pressure during the first step of the procedure but I didn't feel this at all. The entire time I was in the op chair and during the procedure, the 2 nurses and Dr. Yankelove were talking and counting me down through the procedure. I knew everything that was happening as it was happening and this helped calm me a lot. After the operation, they took me back to my room so Dr. Yankelove could look through the microscope and make sure everything looked good. A few minutes later my husband came in and took me home. I was in and out in 1 hour. Once I got home, I tried to go to sleep. I did have some burning sensation and my eyes were watering once I laid down about 1 hr after the procedure but since the Valium was in effect it wasn't that bad because I was able to fall asleep easier even with the discomfort. This was the most uncomfortable part of the entire process but it still wasn't horrible. It was normal to experience this. I woke up later that evening and laid down and watched some TV and I could see!. I used some eye drops since I was awake but was able to still sleep that night. The next day I had my post-op visit and was able to drive myself there that morning. This was only about a 15 minute visit for Dr. Yankelove to check my eyes to make sure everything looked good. I had 20/15 vision in each eye, and 20/20 with both. They nurse said it was probably better than that but didn't want to stress my eyes further the day after the procedure. Today I have my 1 week followup visit. My vision is perfect. I do have some dry eye but this is normal and I have OTC drops to use as needed. read more
