I had been meaning to try Berkeley's for a little while and finally got around to it. I'm glad I did! The service was excellent and the food was delicious. Having lived in Charleston for two years now I am constantly amazed at how many wonderful and varied places there are to eat. So today our weekly Charleston lunch took us to Berkeley's. Great outdoor dining space with a bar the leads into a cozy indoor dining area with spacious booths and a bar. We were quickly seated at a booth and served water and asked for our drink order upon being seated. Upon checking the menu we realized that there were a number of things that we really enjoy so we ordered a few things extra knowing we would be taking a good portion home to enjoy later in the day or the next one. So we started out with a Caesar salad which was quite tasty and plentiful for the two of us to share. Even with that we had plenty leftover to take home. We also got the meatballs which were delicious and the sauce was outstanding. These meatballs were just like homemade and so good they didn't make the leftover bag. The special of the day was a chicken cheesesteak a take on a regular cheesesteak which my wife thoroughly enjoyed. Looking for something a bit different I ordered the veggie cheesesteak which was comprised of a variety of mushrooms, onions and homemade cheese whiz. We were told that the whiz was fantastic and that was no lie, it made the sandwich quite special. So the leftovers of the two sandwiches and Caesar salad were enjoyed for dinner so Berkeley's was a double hit with us. Went for brunch on Easter. No indoor spaces to eat in. Was with other family who can tolerate 58 degrees and space heaters. Fantastic that they give you a blanket for your legs. Coffee- yes , but wait person told me only heavy cream and artificial sweetener. Milk on the children's menus told her to give me that. Do they cook? Found this restaurant online, had good reviews, & seemed just what we wanted for a rainy day...casual, comfortable & with good food. Small interior, but roomy covered patio with heat lamps. Very friendly staff got us seated & served quickly. We were immediately drawn to the salmon BLT and Cheesesteak sandwiches, which we had with a side salad. The sandwiches were fabulous, the cheesesteak generously filled with meat & homemade cheese sauce. The salmon BLT was amazing, generous piece of salmon perfectly cooked, with several good sized bacon slices on a yummy grilled soft bun. Good assortment of beers, wines & ciders. Plus locally made ice cream...rich yet fluffy with chunks of homemade brownie. Highly recommend!!! read more

Food was amazing, drinks were good. Wait was kind of long for a table, so we opted to sit as the bar. Burrata and prosciutto were amazing as well as the salmon blt, patty melt and more. My wife and I stopped at Berkeley's for lunch around 1:00 PM on a Friday. We sat at the bar area and had a great server named Lauren. She was very friendly and told us about the specials. We liked the sound of the Toasted Turkey Sandwich with a slice of apple, bacon, arugula, lettuce, tomato and a in-house sauce. She recommended chips that are made in-house and have a seasoning on them. My wife and I both got the special and it was delicious. The sandwich was fresh from the kitchen and the chips we crispy and well seasoned. Lauren was excellent and told us how they are adding a roof over the patio in February and they will be using the gas heaters to allow guests to be comfortable. Seating inside is limited to 3 booths that seat 4-people max and the bar that seats about 10 people. The outside patio is much larger. We are definitely returning to Berkley's to check out the patio with the roof in March '23. read more

Berkley's is amazing! The food is amazing! Every bite is even more delicious than the last. Everyone there is so nice, and make sure you are having the best meal possible. Everything is so pretty and asthetic! But I must say, the patio is definitely my favorite! You can enjoy the pretty view and eat your meal, and even if it's raining you can still eat outside because there is a overhang over the patio so you can watch a nice storm and still enjoy your food at the same time! Our granddaughter had been here before and highly recommended this restaurant. She was so impressed with the food on her prior visit that it was worth a picture! However, this trip was very disappointing for her. She ordered the same beet salad with grilled salmon, but was very unhappy with the wilted and soggy greens presented to her, in fact, not edible. We stopped here based on a Conde Naste recommendation. James was our waiter and was fun and engaging. He gave us tons of tips on what to order- and deliverer every time. Try the Prosciutto and Burrata appetizer, add Buffalo Chicken to your Ceasar Salad. The homemade cheese wiz on the Cheesestake is delicious! The chips need salt, but the fries were great (taste like In-N-Out for those familiar with thay taste). Beer selection is strong and well priced. Patio is well sized and relaxed. After reading all the rave reviews we were very excited to spend an unusually warm day in February on Berkeley's patio for lunch. We were so disappointed. I ordered the chicken sammie with Parmesan topping as highly recommended by our waiter and fries. My husband ordered the carved turkey sandwich and house made chips. The chicken sammie, our least favorite, was a plain breaded chicken breast on bread with tomato sauce and parmesan cheese. The breading was not crunchy or crispy as expected and the sauce lacked flavor and salt. The french fries were our favorite. The turkey sandwich was fine but we could have made a better sandwich at home after buying turkey meat from the grocery deli. The homemade chips were heavy on Old Bay seasoning. Otherwise the patio was nice though somewhat loud with traffic. It was a nice day to be out. read more

We have be comming to Charleston for years and have historically stayed closer to the Battery or that side of Charleston. This time we rented a home and stayed on Rugledge Ave and were very close to Berkley's so we walked down and tried it, and we are so thankful we did. My wife got the Salmon, and it was the best she has ever had anywhere. She said it was cooked perfectly and was on the perfect amount of greens and was just amazing. My son and I got the cheesesteak and it was great! We also got the small plate with the Spicy shrimp and it was fantastic as well. This is an out of the way place with very friendly staff and great food. The menu is not huge, but whatever you get will be great. I would recommend reservations as it is a smaller place and has indoor and outdoor seating. You can sit at the bar inside or outside and get the full menu which works great as well. If you are sitting outside they have fans that keep you very comfortable. No matter where we stay the next time we are in Charleston we will be back to Berkley's !! read more
