Another example of why I love Yelp. I had a very early appointment in Glastonbury today -so early that I skipped breakfast at home so I could be in Glastonbury at 7:30 am. After my appointment, I searched Yelp for Glastonbury "coffee" and up popped Berkins Blend. It was the first time I ever heard of them and soon it was the first time I ever patronized them. Berkins was a little hard to find, being set back from Hebron Avenue in a little strip mall next to a karate school. So unless you know it's there, you'll really have to keep your eyes open. I was greeted like a long-lost relative, and that's always a positive sign for me. I like a place that doesn't take your patronage for granted and seems genuinely glad that you walked in. I ordered a medium coffee, and I guess the coffee is something special here- not drip made but more like an espresso. Whatever it was, I have to say it was tremendous- with a deep and rich flavor. I wanted one of their savory croissants, but there were none in stock when I visited around 8:45 this morning. I went with a regular croissant which was warmed up and tasted like it just popped out of a Pâtisserie somewhere. It paired very well with that delicious cup of coffee. This can easily be your office away from home. The tables resemble work stations with electrical outlets and even some monitors. And that coffee sure tasted better than what I get at any of the big boy chains.

I stopped by here a couple of Tuesday's ago by myself for my morning coffee. I happened to be staying in Glastonbury for a few days and whenever I consulted Yelp about a nearby coffee place, Berkins Blend Cafe came up. So I got in the car and headed on over. Berkins Blend is located in a strip mall and whenever I arrived at just before 8 AM everything was fairly peaceful. Upon entering the restaurant I saw a couple of cops having their breakfast sitting at a table to my left, a big table down the middle and then some two tops with TV's off to the right. In the back was the place where you could buy some pastries and order your coffee. Since I wasn't staying I quickly headed to the back to place my order and chose a large latte with oat milk. The oat milk ended being a bit pricey to add at $1.29 but I didn't really feel like whole milk on this morning. From the time that I walked into the store until leaving took maybe 5 minutes. After my coffee had a bit of time to cool down, I tried it and thought it was pretty good. The oatmilk was a good addition on my part as it had a nice oat flavor to it and allowed the good coffee to come through. The bottom line for me is that I would come back here again in the future. Berkins Blend seemed like a nice and peaceful place which has good coffee.

Visited today during lunch for a little caffeine pick me up. This place was cozy and quiet. Definitely a place you could have an intimate conversation with or do some work. We got lattes and we're satisfied! Variety of flavors you can add. They had a few pastries and some dee's gluten free goodies. Place was clean and all covid policies were followed

The cafe is not too decked up... very simple and clean... they have free Wi-Fi and plugins for your device. Try the nitro .... it's cold brewed coffee infused with nitrogen.... when poured has a foam top almost like a beer version of coffee.... has a smooth taste,no need of add-ins. The cappuccino was good too..I wanted to try some baked goods but may be next time, I hear its form first and last bakery in Hartford... they also serve soup..hmmm interesting

The coffee shop is tucked into a very small shopping plaza. I found the spot on Yelp and it was close to my house and Black owned so I had to try it out. I was looking for a spot to read outdoors and this fit the bill. When I walked in, I was taken aback by house cute and cozy the spot was. They have a location that feels incredibly spacious while setting up cozy books to read, eat, or visit with a friend. I grabbed a nitro brew but also noticed they have both traditional and gluten free options for guests. Coffee was delish, service was friendly and kind. The customers were diverse and chill. I will definitely be back.

    Such a great space

Interesting concept! This cafe only serves espresso-based coffee, no drip. The owner obviously cares so much about coffee flavor, gets just one blend of beans from Oregon, and works hard to make sure everything is delicious. They also have a nitro cold brew I will have to come back and try! The americano I ordered was very good. The cafe is set up specifically to cater to people coming in to work or do schoolwork. Most of the tables have power outlets, and some of them even have computers that you can use to browse the web if you didn't bring your own! Seems like a great spot to get some work done, and I'll plan to be back!

I pass by this coffee shop at least 4 times a day and never knew it was here until seeing them mentioned on the Glastonbury PD facebook site. I have been missing out on this adorable relaxing spot. Has to be the best Latte I've ever tasted. The athmosphere is comfortable and the employees are really nice. I got to try their gluten free muffin and it was perfect. They seem to rotate through serving pastries and various breakfast quiche options. Plenty of parking, located in the plaza next to Piatti's restaurant.

Excellent coffee and good space to work as a telecommuter. Not noisy, even with many conversations going on.

Although I tasted each one and I am super happy with the flavors and the creaminess, I decided to have a serving of the Connecticut River fudge with a couple of toppings and waffle chips Yummmm Every bite either had fudge or a miniature peanut butter cup or both. You just can't go wrong with adding peanut butter to pretty much anything. I recommend all three flavors and I will be ordering again. They also make ice cream chocolate chunk cookie sandwiches. I did not order any but I did find out from Matt that they are recently in the Big Y near me, Middletown. I will be trying them soon.

However, this place is sneaky about prices. Firstly, They do not list prices on the menu, and after seeing my receipt, I understand why. They also refuse to give tap water, and make you pay for bottled water- a practice that rubs me the wrong way. It cost nearly $50 for two people to eat breakfast here. For those wandering, go through the left-most entrance and take another left. The doors right there. Decoration is a bit sparse, it looks like a cafeteria that someone rented out. It's not the prettiest place, but there's a little charm. Was greeted by who I assume was the owner. He gave me a quick rundown of the restaurant and their operation. I tried to get him to recommend a true Jamaican breakfast dish, but he deferred to the menu and said they would use spices to bring the island vibe. I get their ja steak breakfast sandwich on their cocoa bread. Also get a hibiscus sorrel to try. Price was a little higher than anticipated, but not too bad. In terms of breakfast sandwich, it was okay. The coco bread was in a roll shape but was nice and soft. The sauce had a lot of kick, which was good because the bread helped dull the spice. The egg and cheese was standard, cooked correctly but basic. The steak was thin, but for 9 bucks I wasn't expecting too much. The sorrel is bitingly potent. Drinking it straight up is not recommended due to the overpoweringly strong ginger and hibiscus. It's very nice once diluted with water, but it's a very assertive flavor out of the bottle. For a bakery, their selection is very limited. Cocobread and a few cupcakes was all I could spy. I was hoping for rum cake, carrot cake, festivals, banana fritters, something more than a standard breakfast on the go place. But they do bake bread, so they are a bakery by definition. But because they are a Jamaican bakery I do need to compare them as such. As a bakery It's not bad, they are trying hard to be good but are in a very tough location to truly shine. They've done what they could to keep their business going, but in turn have edited themselves to be more generic. I would recommend that they make the best cocobread they can, then ditch the storefront and instead sell the bread wholesale to other restaurants. They get to focus on what they do best, they supply the other Jamaican restaurants with quality fresh bread. As it stands, it's an option for the area. Basic but functional, trying really hard to keep things afloat but not really embracing their cuisine. Try them if you want to support a local business, but temper expectations.
