    Saigonese Coffee
    Jason P.

I learned about the recent opening of this cafe from a Yelp search. Brew Lab seems to be a Vietnamese / Asian fusion sort of coffee house and cafe. According to their menu on the wall, they will serve Banh Mi, Mochi Donuts and Croffles. All things I'm interested in. Drink-wise, they'll have Vietnamese style coffees, lattes, Refreshers, fruit teas, etc. The people are friendly and the space is cute. Brew Lab seems to be in their Soft Opening stage. So I'm going to overlook some things. Like their Yelp page says they're open at 7 am. But their doors were locked when I arrived at 7:30. That's when I learned from a Google search result that they're open at 8. In any event, while I was trying to figure out what to do in my car, they apparently saw me and unlocked the door. I asked about the time discrepancy, and a guy who seemed to be an owner suggested that they are open at 7, but I wasn't entirely clear on whether that's true. Also, I tried to order a mochi donut, but they did not have any fresh made ones and the ones they had were experimental from the day before and they understandably did not offer them to me. So it seems like you may need to wait for their full menu. I'm unlikely to return for coffee. I'm strictly a black iced coffee drinker. It does not seem like they're going to offer either black cold brew or iced coffee. The man helping me suggested an Iced Saigonese Coffee. I was not familiar with that. From a bit of research, it appears Saigonese coffee is made from Robusta (rather than Arabica) and sweetened with condensed milk. I can't speak to whether this was an authentic Saigonese Coffee, but it was too sweet and light for me to enjoy. Although I wasn't a fan of the coffee, I'm going to give them 3.5 Stars for now and I'll update my review after trying their food.

This new café is the cutest featuring yummy drinks and delicious desserts. Adorable interior, friendly service, and a great ambience. A great spot to catch up with friends. The Ube latte with a shot of espresso and oat milk was divine. Their croissant-waffles "croffles" are yummy and fun!

The few times we've been there, we felt like we were inconveniencing the staff whenever we asked questions. There was little to no eye contact, and the customer service just wasn't welcoming. The experience at The Salad Bar was the complete opposite. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and were immediately asked if we had any questions. That simple gesture made a great first impression. Eye contact is important to me. It feels like, as a society, we've lost some of those basic courtesies that make people feel seen and valued. The staff at The Salad Bar absolutely delivered in that regard. I also appreciate businesses that pay attention to the little things. Cleanliness should always be expected, but unfortunately, that's not always the case. The restaurant was spotless, and I was pleasantly surprised to find USB charging outlets at the tables--a thoughtful touch that definitely didn't go unnoticed. Great food, friendly service, and attention to detail make for a wonderful dining experience. We'll definitely be back!

I am a DoorDash driver, and this was one of the most disrespectful experiences I've had while…read morepicking up an order. When I arrived, the order was not ready and was still being prepared. Since I knew I would be waiting, I politely asked if I could use the restroom. I was told no. I initially assumed there had been a misunderstanding, so I explained that I wasn't a random passerby looking for a public restroom. I was there to pick up an active DoorDash order and would be waiting while they finished preparing it. Unlike employees who have a workplace with designated break areas and restroom access, delivery drivers spend their entire workday on the road. We don't have a home base to return to between orders. Because of that, we often rely on the basic courtesy of restaurants and businesses we partner with while conducting pickups and deliveries. Most businesses understand this and treat drivers respectfully. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here. What happened next was what bothered me most. Rather than simply explaining their policy and treating me with basic courtesy, the employees largely stopped engaging with me altogether. They avoided eye contact, ignored my attempts to communicate, and acted as though I wasn't standing there. It was an incredibly dehumanizing experience. After waiting several more minutes, I said, "I could have been done by now." The only response I received was, "It's not for the public." I again explained that I was there for an active pickup and was waiting on an order that still wasn't ready. Once again, I was met with silence. To be clear, I completely understand that businesses located on busy commercial streets cannot allow every random person who walks in off the street to use their restroom. That's not what this situation was. I was there performing a service directly connected to their business. DoorDash drivers are part of the fulfillment process that allows restaurants to participate in DoorDash, reach additional customers, and generate revenue from delivery orders. I wasn't asking for special treatment--just the basic courtesy of using the restroom while waiting on an order that they were still preparing. What makes this even more frustrating is that if the order had been ready when I arrived, I would have already been gone. The only reason I was standing there waiting was because of the restaurant's delay. At that point, I decided to unassign myself from the order, even though it was a high-paying delivery. If a business is unwilling to show basic respect to the drivers helping deliver its orders, then it can find someone else to complete those deliveries. I will also be reporting this experience to DoorDash so they are aware of how drivers are being treated at this location. To fellow Dashers: I strongly encourage you to decline orders from this establishment and spend your time supporting businesses that treat delivery drivers with professionalism and basic human dignity. To potential customers: please consider whether this is the kind of business you want to support. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect, including the people helping get your food to your door.

He is a tough critic when we go to other smoothie places. I don't usually opt into getting a smoothie myself because of my strawberry allergy. Most of their smoothies have strawberry in them. This location in Newington, went above and beyond. The staff were able to swap out the strawberries for another fruit! They were so kind and helpful. I got the Pineapple Surf, replacing the strawberries for raspberries! I don't know if all Smoothie King locations would make this accommodation and if you are highly allergic to something, take precaution for chances or cross contamination. It was just nice to enjoy a smoothie! We return to this location often because we are always in the area. Last time, I learned they had a special menu that the shop put together. The smoothies were dessert themed and I got Blueberry Cobbler--which didn't have any strawberry. This Smoothie King's service is always fast, never too busy even in summer, the shop is cool, and very clean. Without a doubt, we will be back soon since we are always in the area. It's been a must this summer.

I visited the Smoothie King location on the Berlin Turnpike three times in a row and observed a concerning pattern with one female employee who consistently appeared to prioritize white customers over me. On my first visit, an older man was already waiting. I was the only Black man standing there. I am a polite, professional individual with a good-paying job, and I try to be considerate of others. Although I was waiting patiently, two Caucasian women entered after me, and the employee bypassed me to take their orders. The women apologized, and I reassured them that it was not their fault. I gave the benefit of the doubt, assuming there may have been some confusion. On my second visit, after I placed my order, the employee repeatedly set my order aside to prepare smoothies for Caucasian customers who arrived and ordered after me at the register (they were not picking up online orders). The third visit occurred today, June 29th, around 1:00 p.m. I even paid for the order of a white customer who arrived after me as a courtesy. Despite this, the employee prepared his smoothie first. She then took the order of a man and his two sons who arrived after me, apologized to me, and served my smoothie last. There was nothing complex about my order that would explain the extended wait. After these repeated experiences, I am concerned that this employee may be treating Black customers (or minorities in general) differently by serving white customers first. This is unfair and unacceptable. I respectfully request that management look into this matter to ensure all customers receive equal and professional service.
