Berkots advertising lower in store prices over online prices. Of course the government now requires stores to honor lower online prices whether you have the app or not. Now Berkots requires you to "clip" a coupon. Fine for those who love in the area. For those of us traveling in the area or visiting family, not such a great deal. My product was $1.00 higher than the sign. Why. Because I did not "clip" a coupon. Berkots made an extra $1.00 today. But in the future, any money I may have spent at Berkots, will now be spent at Jewel-Osco. I recommend anyone, but most especially those from our of town, to only buy at Jewel-Osco. HORRIBLE COMPANY. Stay away. This company bought out Walt's and in the beginning they respected former Walt's employees. If you ever shopped at Walt's, you'd know they took pride in Customer Service and respecting their employees. Berkots has cut former Walt's employees hours and the rest have been relocated to stores further than the Sun. Walt's employees that have been there 30+ years are being treated like trash. Berkots jacked up their grocery prices to make payroll. Oh and don't forget, they also hire ONLY Latinos to work in their commissary where their meat is cut off sight. Cheap labor! We used to purchase most of our meat Berkot's but no more. Since they went to digital coupons, the hassle is not worth it! You need to sign into their site, which doesn't work most of the time.... So Berkot's decided to expand which knocked out a couple of business. They have raised prices on everything. Milk was 2.99 which is now 3.79. They raised the prices on Garlic Bread & a lot of staples people need. They offer prepared meals but the kicker is 6.00 if you buy then on Monday & Tuesday from 10:00 to 2:00, what if you work and can't get in there at that time so you are out of luck & have to pay full price. My biggest problem with this store is the extremely low quality of meat!!! I live locally and this is the main grocery store in my area and Everytime I shop here the meat looks gross or is 2-3 days from sell date and/or expiration! It's like they let the meat sit for so long then rush to sell within a couple days! I get sick when I buy it most times so I save my shopping trips until I go to Walmart or jewel in Morris Il. When I lived in Joliet the I used to love the Berkots out that way but coal city in particular is horrible! Use extreme caution when purchasing meat from there! read more

The ladies who work in the deli are extremely rude to customers. Also had to wait almost 5 minutes before one of them would come over and serve me a chicken tenders bucket. They had just added fresh tender when I walked up and I clearly pointed to the fresh ones and because we called them out on making us wait when clearly they weren't busy in the slightest they tried to screw us over by purposely not giving me the fresh tenders I clearly pointed too. They gave me some old looking unsauced boneless wings and just slapped a tenders label on them when it clearly wasn't! Then when I told them I wanted another new bucket with the tenders I originally asked for they tried to lie and say they couldn't serve tender buckets at the time and when I gave her a confused face she finally decided to give me tenders finally and she picks ones UNDER the fresh ones and STILL gave me something old. read more

I've never been inside a Berkot's Super Foods before and I was pleasantly surprised with this location. The staff is friendly and helpful. The store is clean and they feature a little bit of everything. They have a super nice deli. We tried three of the pre-made salads and they were quite flavorful. They also had samples to try of their special seasonal favorites. The produce looks great and they had some amazing prices, such as, Watermelon for $2.50 each and Bi-colored corn 10 cents an ear! The meat counter well stocked. They have homemade burger patties, like cheddar bacon and blue cheese, as well as homemade salami. The bakery is small, but the bread was super fresh and soft. Overall, a really nice small town grocery store experience. read more

Berkot's is my favorite store for meats. The bread and deli section are very good. There are good sales, but regular priced items are expensive. The liquor department has a large variety of items. Sometimes there are too many things in the aisles that make it hard to pass through. The store manager or whatever he is has never said hello to me or even acknowledge my existence in the 17 years I have been going to the Coal City store. I ordered Thanksgiving dinner this past November from Berkot's deli. I was very pleased with the amount of food received, food was made ready when I arrived ten minutes early. I ordered to feed 9 people and there was plenty of food. Turkey, delicious mashed potatoes and gravy, lettuce salad, stuffing, spinach dip in a Hawaiian bread bowl and Hawaiian rolls and a pumpkin pie. Price was $129. Thank you Berkots! Food was very good! I'm a vegetarian who tries to avoid sugar and likes to shop cheaply. This place, in comparison to other grocery stores, is adequate. There is a small section of "health(ier) food" and contrary to what you'll hear the produce is fine - it's like other places. Yes, sometimes the avocados and bananas are like rocks (we are in Illinois after all) and sometimes the peppers are kinda wilted, but mostly it's fine. People complain that things are overpriced here, which seems dumb to me. The sales are good and sometimes things are overpriced, just like they can be at Walmart and Target. Just be a careful shopper and a creative/versatile cook and you'll be fine. Booze section is huge in comparison to the size of the store. What's up Coal City? Do we need to talk? What I will critique is that they have a bakery in house and yet all of their breads are the same and boring. Rolls are essentially odd-shaped hamburger buns and the baguettes are very long hamburger buns. I assume the hamburger buns are spot on, but it would be fitting if they weren't. read more

Do not shop here!! The deli and produce department are horribly ran and the poor workers are being almost forced to serve rotten or expired food AND the managers know and do NOT care. When I was in the "10 or less" line, I approached the cashier at 12:46 PM today, October31st. I said, "Hello" with no response or a heads up. Then I stated, "You must not be having a good day." Again, no reaction. If she was sick, she shouldn't be there. If there was a problem, it should have been addressed. It's not fair to the customers to be treated that way. read more

As a customer my husband and I was treated disrespectful because my husband was extremely upset about Berkots price gouging on the food. I won't lie the prices are extremely high. For instance these Popsicles we buy were less the $4 for 6 and 2'4 weeks later they are over $6 for 6 and that's not the only thing but that's what started all this. when we went to check out my husband said out loud towards the service desk "tell your manager the prices are to f***** high as we were walking to a register to check out. when we got there to check out the lady who was at the service desk came over an told the boy to leave and my husband said why did you do that? she responded "nobody is going to yell at my kids you can yell at me" she straight up lied because no body was yelling at any kids especially the one she removed for the register. So my husband laughed and asked the boy was I yelling or being mean to you? the boy said "no" then my husband asked the lady manager why are you lying because I never yell at him or kid. and why would I yell at him it's not his fault the prices are overly high. During that time the store manager (Gary) came up with another guy holding a stick and listened for a few seconds of what was being said and instead of defusing the situation he said "I was in my office and I heard the f word this can go two ways" and I said we will never come back here i would rather shop at Walmart where i get more for my money" and Gary came back and said i think that would be best" I said "don't worry we won't be back and second of all he didnt yell at no kid or kids she was lying and your prices are extremely too high. He shrugged his shoulders says he didn't care. As we were leaving not saying a word anymore Gary and the guy hold the stick followed us out to keep rhe situation going and said Don't came back here or there will be problems. Now I'm mad and Said I told you In there at the register we would not come back. As a manager your suppose to calm your upset customers down not entice them to get madder. They were trying to get my husband to fight so they could call the cops. there was no reason to be followed to the parking lot harassing your upset customers especially when one of them is legally disabled. We get kicked out because my husband call you out on your food price. I'm sure it wasn't the first time they had a customer complain about the food prices. I have been a general manager and I never made my customers more upset because they were unsatisfied with prices. and have my assistant lying to make the situation worse. After I told you we would never come back with respect you should have walk away, not follow us out trying to get my husband more pissed off because you have history with him obviously. what seen was you and the guy with stick was trying provoke my husband to fight so you could call the cops. obviously there was more to the situation especially if your kicking out customers/ex employees because they are unhappy with your price gouging. if it would have been somebody else in this situation they wouldn't have gone this far. I can see Gary and you have a problem with husband and you found a way to remove him from the store for good. Firing him wasn't good enough obviously and matter of fact you couldn't give him a reason why he was fired. I can tell you why because I was with him, he was to honest on how dirty the deli was and wasn't fast enough past to work for you. but you didn't know he was mentally disabled. I will report this because we shouldn't have been kick out for being upset about price gouging and the f word. read more

This store needs to get it together. Way over priced. Sale items are good but regular priced items are two to three times higher than Walmart. Deli is not good. Used to be but now it is pretty bad. Hit or miss. Lately the deli counter isn't looking very good. All the salads are nasty looking and a couple of the girls that work there aren't very nice. Prices are waaayyyy too high for this area with Walmart and Aldi about 10 min away. read more
