I brought in my Trek bike that I had purchased at another store to be tuned up for the season and had a great experience with the customer service and repair technicians who worked on my bike. I hadn't ridden the bike in years and it's now riding great. I really appreciated the friendly nature of the folks working there and their help loading/unloading my bike from my jeep. The tune-up cost was around the same I have paid at other bike shops in Connecticut but also outside the state. I dropped the bike off over the weekend and it was ready just a few days later. When I returned to the store to pick it up--I was greeted by everyone which made me felt like my business was appreciated. I liked them so much, I decided to purchase a Trek bike for my boyfriend for his birthday from them. I wanted it to be a surprise so they helped me select a bike for him--taking into consideration my budget and how the bike was going to be used. Once I gave him the bike--we realized I hadn't selected the correct size (I told them the wrong inseam) and they told me just to bring the bike back over and they would exchange it. They made the process of selecting (and later exchanging) the bike very easy for me. read more

All I can say is DO NOT come to this bike shop. The owner is a con-man to say the least. I explained to him the kind of bike that I wanted and that I was new to bike shopping and I wanted a nice e-bike for commuting. He then proceeded to try to sell me the only floor model that was there. When I asked for another model that I had researched, he dismissed that option and kept gearing me toward that one. Furthermore, my baby brother was there trying to ride some bikes. This man clearly has no children or any kind of human rationale for he was incredibly incredibly rude to a 5 year old child and kept harshly telling him to get off his bikes. I have never experienced rude behavior of this kind. When I telephoned a week later asking to return the bike, he immediately said that he would not give it back for the full price. He even laughed in my face. I explained to him that I was tight with the money but he didn't budge. And now I am stuck with a bike that I am not happy with that I paid $1700 for. I've been in twice since they're local, ready to buy fenders and once to have a tune up and they were so rude and unhelpful I had to walk out. I'm so glad I didn't give them any money. I recently had my vintage Schwinn tandem bicycle refurbished and tuned up at Bloomfield Bike Shop and can't speak highly enough about the extraordinary customer service and expert work. From my first email with Kevin, to the personal attention from Mike the owner, and the excellent finished product, WOW! I had to drive almost two hours each way to their shop and it was worth every minute. My bike looks excellent and I even received compliments on the way home from people next to me in stop and go traffic on the highway. So I came to Bloomfield bicycle because they are close by in my town and I like to develop a relationship with businesses that I shop at I feel a more genuine experience that way. I had purchased my first bike here nothing special but never had problems with it or even the need to use the years free service they provided.But when I brought my 2021 specialized fatboy in originally it was a 4 month wait only followed up with an email ... of course I missed that email because who has 4 months to watch for one email.I took the bike to colechesters sunshine cycle and run to tune it up that time around. so the time comes for a new cassette and chain so I give them another chance and call in advance to check timing windows and was told about a week minus waiting for parts. I bring my bike in and explain what I would like done.I was then told that I would have to wait to hear the price of the parts because he didn't know how to find them,I proceeded to do their job and in about 90 seconds found the part numbers for needed items i was then given an estimate and told I would be called as fast as humanly possible in regards to weather I needed the parts so we could discuss ordering them. 6 days later I had to call them to find out they hadn't inspected the bike yet! they called me back a few hours later to inform Me I needed a new cassette and chain this was the only time they contacted me aside from the time the bike was finished . Another week goes by and I don't hear anything so once again I call back to find out myself this time I'm told by the man that took my bike in (I could tell it was him by his voice very distinct) that my parts had arived and at the latest it was scheduled to be done was in two days. Three days later Once again I call back to inquire about my bike and a woman explains to me that she was receiving the merchandise as it comes in and she was positive it hadn't come in yet and that once again they could not find it so This time I hung up and found out sram no longer makes the model chain that goes on my bike so I called my good ole pals at sunshine cycle and run and they pointed me in the right direction informing me that any 12 speed chain from sram would work. I called back the next day and they told me in fact the chain had been ordered and we were just waiting on the arrival. Another few days pass and I receive a call to tell me mike bike is finally done after 20 days I am a commuter and I ride 5 miles to and from work everyday. I pick up my bike and all seemed ok for 2.5 miles then the chain skipped three sprockets at once causing my foot to slip off the pedal and thus my tire hit the curb when that happened the stem of my bike was loose enough that the handlebars turned and I fell now I'm sitting out front with plenty of time to write this review as they look over their serious neglect they put into the safety inspection of my bike. They claim to be the largest bike shop in New England but They are clearly in over their heads and I would not recommend this shop to anyone as of now if you care about your safety Or the money you put into your nice bike I would not consider either safe here. read more

Stay away. I went in looking for a very specific kind of bike. They had a couple to look at, and I ended up buying one. WAY more expensive than I had any intention of spending, but how do you tell a kid that you're not buying after they thank you for getting it for them? Ugh. Bike wasn't set up quite right so it went back. Got it back and had a couple of quirky issues. Called them, sent photos, tried to figure out how to deal. They said try it again and let us know, so I did. By the time another 5 miles was logged on the bike and the problem arose again, it was the next year. They say they'll take care of it, but present me with a bill when I show up to pick it up because it's now beyond the warranty period (based on their guidance). Fast forward another riding season and more mechanical problems crop up. And it turns out that these are the DIRECT result of crappy workmanship on the part of the so-called mechanics. Items are loose, have fallen off, and are not adjusted properly. On top of that, the bike NEVER sits outside yet the metal sheath for the cables is rusted. Plastic parts are cracked. Various pieces have fallen off and are missing. Owner is arrogant beyond believe, manager is equally as bad, and they will tell you why you (the customer) are absolutely WRONG in believing that the ridiculous marked-up price you paid should net you better customer service than if you had bought it at Wal-Mart. Save yourself a TON of grief and either go to a better bike shop (any of them, really) where you are treated with value and not seen with dollar signs or just go to a box store any buy any old bike. Better yet, find someone that's giving away a bike on Freecycle or similar and take THAT to a bike shop and get an estimate for a tune-up. At that point, you'll have a much better understanding of whether they're looking to make a life-long customer or just take you for whatever they can. I understand the different between price and value, and I buy on value. Well, this time, I paid the price and got no value. UPDATE 9/14/17 In light of the response that was posted to this review by the shop, I feel compelled to update this review to reinforce that their process puts all of the onus on the customer and "blames" them for the issues. "Your first complaint is about the price of the bike you chose which, like every other bike here, was clearly marked." This is incorrect at all points. There was no "price tag" on this bike at all, at any point. In fact, the bike wasn't even on the sales floor. Due to its size, it is kept in a store room of sorts and you won't ever see it unless you ask about it. The bikes out there are NOT tagged with prices because they don't sit on the sales floor. "This very popular bike was not overpriced and continues to be sold here." While it's nice that it "continues to be sold here", I don't understand how it is classified as "popular" since A) it has a very limited potential audience and B) is extremely expensive for such a basic bike. In fact, the Schwinn Town & Country (the model that is sold at the bike shop) differs from the Schwinn Meridian in the following ways: The T&C is only sold at certain bike shops, the Meridian is sold in all kinds of places including online retailers. The T&C comes with a 3 speed differential while the Meridian is a single speed bike (it can be upgraded to a 3-speed). Consumers can't buy parts for the T&C bikes as they're only sold to delaers. Oh yeah. And the Meridian is roughly 60% of the cost of the T&C. "Secondly, you failed to let it be known that this transaction took place in August 2012 and you didn't return until May 2014 with a damaged crank." I'll give half credit here. Bought in August 2012? True. Returned in May 2014? Also true. What Rachel failed to include is the variety of phone calls and emails that went back and forth between myself and the shop starting in the spring on 2013 (reasonable since the bike wasn't ridden in the winter) to discuss the extremely poor design an terrible quality of the chain guard. Damaged crank? False. There was nothing wrong with the crank, which is why I asked for the original crank back after the swap was made (which required a separate trip to the bike shop to retrieve because they "didn't know where it was" when I went to pick up the bike). "Since 2014, over 3 years ago, we have not had 1 call or email from you until now." True. Why would I bother calling in to report that -yet another- item on the bike needed attention, and it was the direct result of something that had been "touched" by their mechanics the last time it was there? I can't be driving almost an hour each way to transport this thing back to them so that they can keep correcting things that they should have taken care of the LAST time it was there. I did what I could, they wouldn't do what they were enabled to do by Schwinn. I have since talked with a different dealer AND Schwinn, and Schwinn is taking care of the issues. read more

Everytime I go in the staff greets me warmly, the service is prompt and they have taken time to educate me in ways to self-repair. I wanted to purchase an electric bike for a few months. With the pandemic happening there seemed to be no bikes available to purchase. I googled makes of bikes and was led to Bloomfield Bicycles. When I called I was greeting on the phone by Walter who explained the type of bike I needed based on what I told him I wanted it for. He told me he would check his inventory and call me back. He called me 10 minutes later and told me he had a great bike for me. I arranged with him to pick it up 2 days later. The night before my pickup date Walter called me to confirm our appointment. When I arrived at the store in Connecticut I was pleasantly greeted by Walter. My bike was built and ready to go. He explained all the mechanisms of the bike and made sure I was comfortable with it. The owner is very nice but the actual repair guys need a lesson in basic customer service. I bought my bike on line so when it needs service I have to go to an authorized dealer. As soon as I said I didn't purchase the bike there ( the shop is the closest authorized dealer, but still about an hour & 1/2 away ) they turned incredibly rude. As a paying customer, I've never been treated so poorly - luckily when I asked to speak with a manager, I got the owner and he smoothed things over, but I still can't recommend going to this shop for repairs. If you are local and want to purchase a bike, I would want to purchase a bike from someplace I would feel comfortable going back to for service, and unfortunately this just not that place :( read more

My first experience with Bloomfield bikes was over the phone. I had called to see if they had a certain bike or my son and was actually surprised at how pleasant and knowledgeable they were. Not only did they have the bike, but it was ready and waiting for us when we arrived and was $60 cheaper than the stores I had called, which was a nice bonus. The employees are mostly friendly but definitely arrogant about their work, the prices are a little high even for a specialty shop but are a viable solution if you cant wait for an amazon order to come in. They use some low business practices in order to make an extra buck so I would avoid them if you can, If you want to hear my story, read below When I came to have something as simple as a bike tire changed, they gave me a fair price and I agreed, then after they took all my info and were about to work on it, the employee said he had to go "ask the boss something" about 30 seconds later he informed me that because the wheel had a hub motor on it, it would be almost twice as expensive. The motor wasn't even wired to the bike so its an identical process to change the tire as a regular rim besides there being 1 extra washer when attaching the tire. He couldn't give me a reason as to what why the price increased so I ended up walking out and doing it myself, they were really just trying to shake me down for some extra money in the hope that I didn't understand how basic mechanics worked. I have no clue if the "boss" actually had the price raised or if it was just a shakedown, I would suggest other bike shops in the area as I have used most of them and never had something like this tried on me. read more

I am very disappointed with Bloomfield Bike. I was a regular customer there for about a year; both the Bloomfield CT and Simsbury CT stores. It took me awhile, but I started to get a negative vibe in the Bloomfield store. I noticed the salespeople were very reluctant to answer even the most basic of repair/upgrade questions. I did make many purchases at both stores; bike repair rack, tubes, tires, cables, handle-bar bag, etc. So, I decided to try the smaller Simsbury store. The salespeople/tech guys were much friendlier. I recently dropped in the Bloomfield store. I chatted with an employee for about 5 minutes. Next thing I know, the employee's name was called over the store's sound system. He returned with a worried look and hurried away, abruptly ending the conversation. I looked around the corner; one of the shop's owners had called the employee over and directed him to end the conversation. I was a bit insulted. I considered myself a reliable customer. I buy an item 75% of the time I visit either store. I called the owner to discuss. To paraphrase, the owner, she said: he's my employee and I want him to keep working. Well, ok. You pay the bills; do as you please with your employees. But, what does the shop have to offer that I can't buy online for 15-25% less? I visit local bike shops to chat, learn about bike repair, and swap stories with others who share my love of bikes. And, I buy bike related parts and accessories! So, I ask any shop owner, what do you have to offer to keep the Local Bike shop alive? I would visit Bloomfield Bike only, only if you are in a bind and need something quick, otherwise, buy online. read more
