I have been to this shop before to have 2 different electric bikes that was purchased while I was…read morein California serviced there for minor things like tune up, flat tire, helmets, locks, etc.. It looks like they want to lock out their neighborhood customers and limit it to only Bikes they sold them. I had the need for a new brake pad to be installed and was told they didn't touch any other bikes unless they sold them into their shop. They told me 1) too heavy (although I have had them service it 2x before), that they didn't want to get into a job and have it cost 7-10X of the cost and have me not pay. I even offered to have them call me before proceeding or even sign a hold harmless agreement but it boils down to they want to squeeze out any brands they didn't sell. The person was apologetic for this position and said if I got stuck to call him back and he would try but no promises. That sent me down the street to another place. Bottom line is I took it to another place in Vernon (Pedal Power) and they did it fast plus a tune up for 99 dollars.. Steve at Pedal Power is wonderful if you are in the same bind with Lectric e-bikes needing a fix - even a flat tire. I would buy anything in the future from them because they see business as a long term relationship. I was very disappointed with the 2 Glastonbury bike shops. I will post the details of their service (the other 2 that turned me down). One on Main Street I gave 2 stars because I feel that they at least they may have helped me but I don't want to beg for someone to service a very easy install that took 30 min. Thankfully, there are companies like pedal Power, that will be around longer than these mom and Pop shops that just want a quick buck. For them, I would just suggest give me a price that says I don't really want to do the work and at least it's my choice but they wouldn't even do that. Again shout out to Steve at Pedal power in Vernon.

It came back looking great, tight brakes, true wheels, smooth shifting. I was happy to pay the $185. I stored it for the winter and looked forward to riding it in the spring. When I pulled it out in the spring, the rear tire was flat. I wasn't sure how it happened since I hadn't even ridden it, but with a big bike trip planned in July, I wanted it fixed. Visit 1: In June I brought it in for a tube replacement. I paid $24 for a new tube and labor. The staff, mostly younger employees, were joking around and not fully focused. I overheard one say they nearly blew the tire by leaving it hooked up to the electric pump too long. By the time I got home, the tire was flat again. Visit 2: I returned a few days later. They said the tire liner was the issue, so I paid another $24 for a new liner, another tube, and labor. Again, they nearly overinflated the tire -- one employee even joked, "That was a close one." Once again, the tire was flat when I got home. Visit 3: This time, they said the liner had shifted and exposed a spoke, which punctured the tube. I offered to just buy a new wheel, but they said it wasn't necessary and they could fix it. I left the bike overnight and told them I'd only pick it up if the tire held air. The next day, it didn't. They did more work, sanding spokes, and eventually got it to hold air. But when I picked it up, the wheel was no longer true and rubbed against the brakes -- and I still hadn't ridden the bike once since I got the full tune up in the fall. At this point, I was frustrated. I told them to just put on a new wheel -- but I wasn't paying full price since the damage clearly happened in their shop. I'd already spent over $200 and still didn't have a rideable bike. Visit 4: The day before my trip I paid $91 for a new wheel and labor and took the bike home. The next day, while loading it onto my car rack, I saw that now, the front tire was flat. So either they swapped the faulty rear tire to the front out of spite for me asking for a discount, or they made the same overinflation mistake again. I cannot trust this shop to do basic repairs. After spending over $300, the bike was never rideable and I had to borrow a bike for my trip. I'll be taking it elsewhere to fix the front tire. I'd strongly recommend finding a more professional, reliable bike shop.

I Stopped in Willimantic Pedal Power shop for a derailer hanger replacement which they had on…read morehand.. after discussing my bikes issues the service shop personnel asked to take a look at my bike frame (which i had in the car) I took my bike frame in and realized that I had a bent drop outs.. he asked if i'd like him to install the derailer hanger and adjust to parallel.. after about 20 or 30 minutes he had my bike I'll put back together and shifting well.. they only charged me 20 $ this service in addition to other service that I received at the Middletown Pedal Power left a good impression on me I have had nothing but positive experiences with their franchises.. I will likely shop with them again.. they also carry a variety of popular as well as less popular bike brands.. like salsa and surly..to name a few..

As you can see from my other reviews of other bike shops, I've not had the best of luck. From stores that only push certain brands to stores that treated me great til they got my money.... it's hard in today's day and age of the internet where to go and how you will be treated. Let me tell you the guys at Cutting Edge have been hands down WONDERFUL at every turn. Not only did they more than willingly go thru bikes with my husband but also with me. The fact that they were so thorough and knowledgeable about the bikes they have, including my current riding disciplines. They have a varied selection of all kinds of bikes and if there is something you're interested in but don't see, just ask. They also have a used section that is available to the public. So what makes these guys great? They all have their own personalities and talents, but they are so harmonious and that's rare and lends its self to a lack of competition against each other for sales and puts the customers needs and wants first!! An equal great point is they are able to point out things to me that helped my cycling and make suggestions without being overbearing or putting sales first. These guys know how to generate true repeat business by fostering real relationships with every customer that comes in. Which is why on the third visit there we felt more than comfortable to trade in my husbands bike and upgrade him to a full suspension bike! He ABSOLUTELY loves his new bike and they just turned my bike from a 2x10 drive train to a 1x10 drivetrain and for a more than reasonable price!!! Craig this is how you do it and other businesses could learn from you, but they just don't even fit in the same category as you and your store!!!! Not the junk you get at Target and Wal Mart. Third, they don't try to up sell or oversell. My wife and I admittedly weren't experts, and Aaron explained everything to consider because we were buying "surprise" gifts. The kids got great bikes, fitted and adjusted by Fritz. Sales staff are knowledgeable and ask all the right questions to establish what you want. No high pressure or "you need this..." kind of approach. Service is spot on. Had difficulty shifting to the top cogs on the rear cassette and their mechanic Chris was very thorough. He checked the chain length, the cassette teeth and the shifter itself and the stop screws. It was a bent derailleur hanger. He had it fixed in under ten minutes. Strong recommend.

Charlie took me through several brands and models on my first visit, and set me up with a list of bikes to try. A few days ago when the weather was cold, and dank out and rather dreary we rolled in to try them out. Such a happy to help crew, while I took a bike out, they set the next one up and had it ready for me to take it out next, and so on. I was so thankful it cut down on the over all outdoors time that day, glad they didn't mind the cleanup.... I avoided every puddle I saw fellas So with that in mind I narrowed my choice down to 1, but I still had 2 more bikes to ride elsewhere..... so I chose to wait instead of leaving with it that day. I called this morning and they had their bike fitter there as well as a full staff ready to meet mine and fellow customers needs and zero wait!!! I was fitted quite proper!! I gave them 2 stars because I feel that they at least may have helped me but I don't want to beg for someone to service a very easy install that took 30 min.

From what we could see, they carry Fox bikes, which is a very high end, off road, cycle. I'm a 'bike path' sort of gal and an 8k+ cycle is way out of my price bracket. They had others for less, but all were very high end. We walked in on the 'repair' side of the shop (two doors from the sidewalk into the building) and the staff member there directed us over to the sales floor. He was the most pleasant part of our visit. I saw one staff member in the sales area who remained behind the register during our entire visit and I think there was one other staff member assisting a customer with gear. There were several customers milling around without being assisted. We exited through the sales area door and the staff member behind the register there asked if they could help but our reconnaissance pretty much told us what we needed to know. There may have been more options we didn't see, but as it was busy and the floor models all have price tags, I think we got the gist. Still, it would have been nice to have an offer of assistance before we were leaving. I wonder if the other customers there feel the same way.

When our pipes froze during the big storm this January (thankfully, without water in them), we decided to hire Plumbums again. That didn't go as well. Quality of work: The fixes Jim suggested (a series of individual junction fixes) seemed reasonable for the repairs needed, but in some cases replacing whole sections would have been more time- and cost-efficient (according to other plumbers we've had in our home who have seen the work done). And we needed four return visits within our first three days living in the house to address issues that had not been resolved or that popped up as soon as we turned systems on. One problem (heat running constantly on our first floor, making the house over 80 degrees in the winter) was unresolved until I researched possible causes myself and communicated that to Jim, who sent out one of his guys to implement the fix. Professionalism: We were frustrated by the lack of care shown toward our property. Jim's guys left plumbing debris (not just the stuff our homeowner's insurance requested, but just straight-up trash), food trash, and drywall dust in our basement and living areas. This means that the first thing we had to do after driving 3,200 miles to move in was clean up after them. Drywall was removed roughly in several locations, and although patching was not included in the estimate, the cuts themselves appeared unnecessarily sloppy (and our new plumber neatly cuts and replaces drywall as a matter of course, leaving the mudding to us, which is fine). Plumbums did work well with our insurance company to get our claim handled, and ultimately we have working plumbing. But our experience wasn't great.

The owner of TPM, Tyler Rokowski, was the first to reply to my search on "Yelp." Tyler came the next day, surveilled the damage and got right back to me with his estimate. Not to lock him in on his rate; I just want to say that his price was more than generous. He gave me his appointment date and start time and showed up with his crew and equipment and got right to it. Never have I seen such a hard-working team. They did a great job in a short time. They took down the Part that was laying on my roof, cut away all the branches to prevent further damage and cut down the entire tree, cleaning up the yard as they worked. They took away all of the branches and the big logs, then they ground the stump down. They were at my house at the scheduled time and were gone by 2 pm. I highly recommend this business. The toddler was my not yet two year-old grandson, who was too small to be fitted for a baby tux where the rest of the wedding party was going for rentals. In brief, Tima explained that she doesn't tailor men's or boys' wear personally, but she did recommend Topal Tailor, who did an excellent job for me overnight. I couldn't have been more pleased at Tima's response to my dilemma, and I was equally impressed with Mr. Topal and the work he did for me on fitting two toddler boy suits!

I could go on and on about this place and the staff they have. I am not a young 20 or 30 something but rather someone approaching the top of the hill in life - a 60 something but still reasonably productive member of the population that was looking for something to ride that (1) I could handle (2) wouldn't kill me outright the first time out and (3) wouldn't force me to cash in my 401K. Being a reasonably "informed" shopper, I had visited a number of other cycle shops to see if there was one that stood out in many different categories - customer service and attention - knowledge of EVERYONE in the shop about the stuff they sell - was the owner there and did he interact with the customers? - were the prices at least competitive with the rest of the marketplace - and did the employees at least appear happy and want to help. I'm sure there were more subliminal factors for me but those were the ones that I was looking for primarily. This Place got 5 stars from me on ALL accounts. Not only did they excel, they went beyond the curve and I got exactly the bike that fit ME from all perspectives. The owner who not only answered my questions on my first visit but gave me some to consider in response, but actually remembered my name on the second visit. (I bought on my 3rd visit) They tuned the bike up perfectly (not me or my wallet). I cannot recommend a place to business more highly. OH yeah, the shop is clean and well organized and speaks of the professioalism of the staff that all appear to be like your next door neighborhood kid that just wants to help. read more

Heard about this shop from a trusted friend. Called Aaron up - needed maintenance on front and back shock. Dropped it off, shop looked nice, neat and new. Talked to Aaron - seemed pretty sharp - a good listener - always a plus. He called the next day said the BB was bad and the cable / housing needed replacement. Called the next day and the bike was ready to go. Picked it up, talked to Aaron more - spent time in the parking lot watching me ride and adjusting the rear shock. Went for my first ride the next day - the bike felt brand new - shifted perfectly - rode like a dream. What more can you say. He did a beautiful job and turned the bike around in 2 days at the height of the riding season (late July). I highly recommend this shop. read more

The bike that Storrs CC built me in December of 2013 is just turning 6.6 years old. I only mention it because I haven't really taken a wrench to it in . . . 6.6 years. The last 4 years of which have been in the high mountain deserts of Utah and Wyoming. Its not a down hill bike, but you you wouldn't know it by her many accomplished descents, and how sloppy i choose my lines. Be that as it may, the wheels assembled at Storrs CC have stood the test of time. It is just until now that her rear hub (Hope Evo Pro2) was do for an overhaul-- a meager trail tax in the spectrum of things. Bike technology will continue to change as fast as my dirty bike shorts; as it does, I hope to be riding the same machine. Buy nice or buy twice, --Cory read more

I have been an avid road biker for 10 years. I ride 6000 to 8000 miles a year. I love my bike. When it needs TLC I bring it to SCC. I am proactive and make sure that my bike is always serviced proactively. When it has any issue I go to SCC they are absolutely and by far the best bike shop in the USA. Whatever problem I have they take time and fix it correctly. I buy everything from them, some people turn to the internet but the service and care you get from the team at SCC is second to none! No reason to go anywhere else. Aaron and Adam and the rest of the team are amazing! read more

Researching road bike wheel sets was a lot of fun but it was even more helpful to go to Storrs Center Cycle and talk to the owner. I was just about to make a big mistake buying rebranded Chinese junk over the internet. For not much more, I ended up with beautiful American made wheels. They exceeded my expectations. The ride is phenomenal!! If going Fast is what you want, high end wheels are the best upgrade you can make. read more

They said it was because Lectric didn't have insurance and they didn't want to be responsible. I called back the people doing the recall for them and asked questions from their insurance broker (Sedgwick) and they said they do have product liability insurance and they have paid out on and hand full of claims and that is why they have a voluntary caliper recall. They even shared the details of the 3-4 claims entailed, Maybe the woman I spoke with was at store was misinformed but I did get the feeling it was a bit of collusion among local bike shops to not help anyone that didn't buy their bike from them but we're specifically singling out Lectric whom I feel makes a pretty good e-bike. I have 3 of them over 4 years. I support any business to make the decision to refuse service but believe it is a short sighted decision. Don't you think I would share my experience with neighbors and friends in the area. Have you ever heard of a mechanic saying well I didn't sell you the Toyota so I am not going to repair it. OK so here is the good news and hopefully helpful to the others that had gone to the shop and told they are out of luck. I am sure they would even repair any bikes sold by bicycles East should they go out of business. Isn't that the way it should work? Electricians work on houses they didn't build, plumbers work on plumbing that they did not install, and again I'm all for companies, making a profit. Just decide what dollar value it is worth to do it and let the consumer choose whether or not it's too high or not. The first shop I gave 2 stars because he seemed to feel bad for my situation (Main Street in Glastonbury) but this place - Bicycle East - seem to feel vindicated that they would not do it.. Very Short sighted .. so that is why 1 star. I will save you from even having to search.. Coming…read morefrom NYC, we weren't sure where to go exactly but Joseph and his team were more than accommodating and gave us a few fantastic suggestions; they really couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. We started off going towards the river front (which was beautiful) and from the boathouse we biked into the old Colt factory, stopping in at the Thomas Hooker brewery. Fantastic little spot to stop- it was game day so there was a lot of enthusiasm and energy. We biked through Bushnell park and eventually ended up in West Hartford at Blue Back Square before turning back into the city. The bikes were perfect throughout, well maintained and comfortable to zip around in. Cost wise, its an incredible deal. 20$ a bike for the day and 1$ bike locks. Renting through BiCi was such a great way to spend a day in Hartford. Great service. Great bikes. Great advice. 12/10 recommend.

Wow What a great place to have brought my 2005 road king . I needed to replace my tires . The…read morecounter person treated me in a professional and courteous manner. She picked out a set of Dunlop's for me then gave me 20 percent off the tires and told me there was a 60$ rebate available. I dropped the bike off at 11 am the next day and at 2 pm she called and told me it was done . The installation fee was very reasonable as a matter of fact t it wasn't worth it to take the wheels off myself . When I got home she had all ready e mailed the rebate form . I think I made a wise choice and I spent less than I thought I would.
