Even though There are many Pizza joints with in Torrington and Winsted I'll drive an hour just to come to this place. The pizza is absolutely delicious it's the only place I can actually take my family to who will eat it. The service is amazing there fast efficient friendly and attentive I've never ever had a problem here and thank you for making our night so enjoyable each and every time that we come and when we pick up when we're wanting to eat at home! read more

The Berkshire Cafe is a local bar that has served the best Pizza in Northwest Connecticut for more than 60 years! Hardwood floors, tin ceilings ( if you look close there is a bullet hole) and the smell of an old pub. The ambience is surly and pugnacious. Simply THE BEST! read more

The Berkshire Café is a life-time memory for me. I was born in 1942 and lived the first 15 years of my life in the big house across the street, on the corner of Albert St and Wilson Ave. The pizza today is as good as it was back then. Little has changed on the inside décor. A long bar on the left, separated from the dining area by a partition. TVs for watching your fav sports. Lots of old photos of Torrington on the walls and the same old booths, lighting and wide plank floors. It's nice when you can disprove that old adage that "you can't go home again". Every visit evokes warm, happy memories of the old neighborhood. My only problem is that my aging body has a problem negotiating the high entrance stairs. It isn't handicapped friendly. But, it's worth the struggle and there's always someone to lend me a helping hand. We drive from Bristol just to get the best Pizza around. The grinders and salad are excellent, too. So, if you're craving a step back in time, and a simple menu to please your palate, and your wallet, make your next stop the Berkshire Café. Truly a piece of dining history. Walking through the doors you'll immediately be bathed in history and a nostalgic feeling. Froom the booths to the bar you'll be able to see why this place has survived for so long. The pizza is one of the better choices for the area and by CT standards its above average. Their salads are a great appetizer and the beer is well priced. The service is friendly and fast (I think our pizza came out in a matter of minutes). It definitely has that comfortable, local feel that you'd want in your neighborhood bar and grill. The only drawbacks are there aren't too many tables so the wait can be rather daunting at times and then comes the real problem....cash only. They have an ATM in the back but in a day and age where no one carries cash anymore this is definitely a strike against. read more

Ordered with a food allergy, where half my grinder was perfect and the other half had cheese.... I ordered food stating the food allergy (lactose and tolerant) during the order being taken and expressed it enough like how i always order my food and not only was i ordering but also a few ppl from my place of work as well. They did not lable any of the orders we requested and upon checking my food i thought i was in the clear I did not take the time to check the other half thinking i would be ok. Well i was not and ended up missing 3days of work due to a bad allergic reaction resulting me in the hospital for 2 of the days... My main problem was how it was handled they told me day one that they would accommodate me the next time i order......... Yeah i might have until i was upset in the hosptial and vented my experience on fb where the cook who made my food reached out on a mutal friends facebook and commented nasty comment and telling me that i should bring my own food to work.... well thats not a problem i figured i would never order from there again and even had tried reaching a manager who is never present at any hr through out their day and offered them a way around me not writing up a bad review and they had never responded to my 3 emails and never returned a call back to my number that i left a few times when i had called in as well trying to let them know that their cook does not want to make money nor care for the reputation of the resturant, clearly by the comment he left me which i will glady post up next in its own review.... This could have been avoided a number of ways one way the cook not opening his mouth or, two trying to resolve the situation by defending himself and just owning up to his mistake, and three returning emails or phone calls. All of which could have be avoided but after the time difference and the fair warning here i am today... So end result if you have a food allergy beware the resturant putting your allergic reaction on the other half, also if this does happen do not expect them to be nice, expect a childs reaction through out the whole process and not replying or answering to you. read more

Stopped into Berkshire yesterday with my wife for a pizza and a cold beer and as usual we were not disappointed. Our server was fantastic, handling the dining area by herself, friendly and never leaving us waiting. The pizza, as usual, was delicious. If you are looking for a really good classic pizza and a nice atmosphere then Berkshire Café is an excellent choice...bring cash though, no plastic. read more

This place is a classic. Good selection of draft beer, really good pizza and good salad. Nice, warm pub-like atmosphere. Keep returning here for a predictable and enjoyable meal. Returned recently and the pizza has changed and not for the better. The cheese lacked flavor and was a bit chewy. I suspect there was a cheaper option but def not better. read more

Lifetime fan.. while the menu has changed over the years, the pizza has not... Still very reasonbly priced and can always look forward to a little leftover pizza, the next morning.. Cold ! Salad dressing is delicious, as well. No better takeout in town. Only reason I did not give 5 stars is the table service can be spotty at times. read more

I'm from New Haven and don't like the style of pizza offered by Berkshire. The crust is too think for my taste but the cheese and other toppings are fresh and tasty. The menu is limited but good. Four Stars for everything except the pizza. The grinders and salads were very good. The meatball sub was excellent. Salad was basic so add the chicken breast. You won't leave hungry. The beer menu makes any beer drinker happy. read more

This review is even AFTER all the trouble that the berkshire has been going through lately. Now that they are back open, they STILL have the amazing house salad dressing. A very rich cheesy dressing. The pizza is still great but not AMAZING as it had the potential to be in the past. Not a thin crust, not a deep dish, just a nice somewhere in between. We get takeout from the Berkshire several times each week. Although I've never personally visited the actual establishment, I can attest that the food is always good, fairly priced and consistent. Order the French Dip, it's simple and delicious. Their burgers are the best Torrington has to offer. (That's not saying much, but they're great, regardless!) read more

Food sucked and the service on Monday night was horrific.The waitress could barely wait on tables, like she was doing you a big favor and had a attitude. Put the plates and silverware and napkins in a stack on the table. Never asked to get us more drinks. Spotted this place on a side road and thought it may be fun to stop for a quick beer and a pizza. Ordered a medium pizza and a few drafts. Pizza was so-so and service was fine, until the bill came. Just a piece of advice, if you sit at the bar, don't think that the over-sized pizza sign next to the kitchen reflects the actual price you will pay. There is a small antique sign at the bottom. While that sign really didn't seem to be too far off in price, you may be shocked when you get the actual bill. While I mentioned it to the bartender, she kind of laughed and said maybe if you were back in the 70's. With that being said, I still think that $42.00 was a bit much for a medium pizza a n a few beers. So I just mentioned to her that we were in an ally way in Torrington, not at Mohegan Sun Casino.
