Dang. Came here on a whim with my family and the customer service here is non existent. Not only do they look miserable but they don't even greet you or care about anything involving that shop. Some old Asian lady with a caked up white face belonging to the shop was outside when my daughter and I approached. We walked in together and she saw us. Ordered three donuts and , half a dozen holes, one croissant sandwich and a spinach bagel with cream cheese and tomato, and two drinks. The bagel was thin, tasteless, AND HARD AS A ROCK. When you bite into it, it feels like you're tearing through cardboard and your jaw will have a work out. Tasted like it was old and was neither good nor palatable. The tomato was the only fresh thing. The spread tasted store bought. My daughter didn't like the donut holes, barely glazed and were stale. She ate two and said they tasted "funny". I haven't eaten the other Donuts but I'll just throw them away because the cadence is that they don't sell enough and seem as though they save it for the next day. When we were ordering, lady didn't say anything, grabbed the stuff and put them in bags. She didn't greet us or talked. So I walked away let my partner pay. Kid and I went outside and were going to sit at the table. I told my kid to move the chair from the opposite side of the table and sit next to me. White faced Asian broad decided to yell at my 4 year old and say "HEY DON'T DO THAT". I got up and said straight to her face not to yell at my daughter and do not talk to her. She then proceeded to say my kid was ruining her chair and decided to ask if I'm there to eat. THE AUDACITY. YOU JUST SAW ME WALK IN. I went inside to tell exasperated lady that helped me that the old person yelled at my daughter. She didn't say a thing and just said "yeah". I'm never going back there again. Food is horrendous, overpriced, days old and is unpalatable. The experience will also speak to the flavor and quality of the food - bad all around. They're racists and disgusting people. read more

Dark, negative energy in this place. I had tried this place about a year ago and found the customer service to be pretty dismal. I happened to be in that part of town again today and thought I'd give it another try. Nothing has changed except maybe the hostility towards customers has gotten worse. How is this place still in business? You walk in and the two ladies behind the counter seemed annoyed that they have to help you. They don't smile. They don't talk. But you can feel the absolute disdain and misery. If you are so unhappy with your job, it's time to move on and find something that brings you joy. I walked out without ordering anything. I stopped here in the morning on a weekday and grabbed a bacon, egg and cheese croissant sandwich; a half dozen donut holes, and a chai latte. The chai latte was light on the flavor but it wasn't too sweet which I appreciated. The sandwich was very tasty with a buttery soft croissant and I would get it again! The donut holes were okay and a bit oily, so I probably wouldn't get those again. There was a really sweet elderly woman that was helping me. I was a regular at one point and would grab a quick post gym meal here. I liked how they had cucumbers in the sandwiches which add a crunch. The lady at the front has become pretty mean though and frustrated screams at you. She should probably retire. The daughter who helps at the front is quiet and always looks sad. I should've read the reviews before coming here for some donuts. As I walked in we're did not get a simply hello or welcome, mind you we were the only ones there and really wanted to walk out. Selections was very limited but still managed to get a dozen. The lady seemed to rush us a bit but we couldn't cause the selection was poor. Upon leaving and making it back to the office we all had a donut and it was off. I had the sugar donut and it taste wierd not fluffy at all like any other donut shop. How can you mess that up? I originally just wanted to grab a cup of coffee and chat meet with a friend here. I had no expectations for the food or the service. The older lady who took my order had a really poor attitude, but I didn't think much of it--any way, it only take seconds to order. The lid on my coffee cup was broken and ended up staining my pants, but I didn't complain. I figured it was just an accident and not worth making a fuss over. But while we were chatting, the same lady suddenly came over and started yelling at us to leave, saying this place wasn't meant for people to sit and talk. Later, I read the reviews and saw that so many other customers had similar bad experiences. Honestly, I felt a little happy--because I want to let you guys know: don't feel bad, someone give back to her today. Why should we tolerate her behavior? Maybe she feels empowered to treat people rudely just because most customers don't bother confronting her. This place has been open for as long as I can remember... back in high school, my mom would treat my sister and me to their delicious croissant sandwiches once a week for lunch. While I am no longer living in the area, I always make the effort to stop by when I am visiting family and friends! I am a big fan of their croissant sandwiches. I ordered their vegetarian croissant sandwich without cheese around 12:50pm on a Monday. It was absolutely delicious! They even gave my sister and me a free donut hole. So sweet (literally)! Bernal Bakery is one of those spots that calls to you when you are visiting the home land of Silicon Valley. As a Santa Clara Native this has always been my go to spot for an easy lunch and a chance to grab some doughnuts to take to moms. Its not a spiffy, shinny Apple Park type place its old School with authentic chalk board menus. I love the glass box counter, pie plates and pink cardboard boxes almost as much as a $5 sandwich.... What???? Wait... put the brakes on! 5 bucks really? Yep in the heart of tech country? and the coffee is still a dollar and a quarter and it's good? yep. I have always found Bernal Busy until this time, then I realized, It finally hit home what might be lost. Its not the dollar doughnuts, cheep cup o joe, or a simple sandwich with no frills for 5 dollars. Went on a mystery car run today, we met up near the doughnut shop. Of course me being a doughnut lover I decided to stop in and get a maple filled bar. The inside has plenty of seating, a refrigerator for drinks and a counter "doughnut rack" I ordered a maple bar and asked if I could get it cream filled? "She said yes" Ok now for the doughnut: unfortunately it was dry and the maple did not taste good. The cream filling had kind of a tang to it "like it was spoiled" so the service was ok 3 stars but the doughnut unfortunately for me it's one and done. Sorry I can not recommend them :C read more

The two women that work in the morning are always very sweet and patient. I often have a hard time figuring out if I want to buy any donuts for my coworkers or if its just for me. I'm so glad to see this place still open! I was really craving a croissant sandwich so I came here. I'm a big fan of their ham croissant sandwiches and honestly super surprised that they barely raised their prices over the years. Other places would easily charge over $10+ for a sandwich like this but they somehow managed to keep theirs under $9. The croissant is soft and buttery. It's a no frills sandwich but I don't know why but theirs always taste better than what I can make or get elsewhere. I personally find the people here really nice.
