I have been a regular of Maple Leaf Donuts at 1110 Saratoga Ave, San Jose, CA 95129 for many years. This is part of a local chain but I come to this one primarily as the main person I see is Jenny. She is ALWAYS friendly, polite and helpful. Over the years, this store has changed a lot. They now have sandwiches and special drinks. Jenny recommended to me on a past visit that I get a sandwich, as they were very good. Today I had the Deluxe Bagel which has egg, cream cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato, and advocato. Absolutely delicious as it was made with the freshest ingredients and cracked eggs. The donets and apple fritters are always fresh and if you get there early enough, they will still be warm as they are made in house. Although the shop is old, it is kept clean and well maintained. This is a small shop with a couple tables inside. They always seem to have a great selection throughout the day. I once came in around 1 and was able to find almost everything I wanted. I've also tried their egg and cheese croissants and I think it's the best I've tried in the area so far! Service here is great. We got donuts from here and they turned out to be super stale. I mean unusually stale, definitely felt like more than a few days old. My wife and I have been going through a donut phase lately and have tried several different donut shops in the bay. We usually buy half a dozen each time and eat them throughout the week, so we are familiar with how donuts that are a couple of days old should taste. It pains me to leave a 1 star review for a mom and pop shop, but their dishonest business practices leaves me no choice. My dad went on Friday to pick up a bag of donuts for me and my friends and was given day old donuts. We only learned they were stale upon serving them to my friends. Maple Leaf Donuts never indicated that these would be older donuts. My husband and I still wanted to give the shop a second chance, just in case, so we put an order through TooGoodToGo. The pickup window lasted until 2:50pm, but at the last minute the store changed the time to 2:40pm. We rushed to make the pickup but when we arrived we were told they had already closed at 2:30pm and had no more TooGoodToGo bags. Mind you, we had reserved and already paid for these donuts a day prior, only to be told day of that they had already sold our purchase to someone else?! After showing the clerk our in app and email confirmations numerous times, she relented and gave us 6 plain donuts worth $9 in total. The bag we had paid for online was worth $15 in donuts so we were robbed of $6 worth of donuts. We had trusted that the clerk would give us the correct number of donuts and only did the calculations once we were home. We should have checked in store... Both online and in shop, their posted hours say they're open on Sundays until 3pm but you should definitely call in to check that they will still be open. And if you decide to order more than 1 donut, you would be wise to eat it in store first to double check it isn't stale. Take a look at the other reviews talking about being sold old donuts. If you do order from here, be sure to double check your receipt and bags/boxes to make sure you weren't scammed! read more

This Doughnut shop has been in business for as long as I can remember and yet this is my first time in, why? Don't really know, just never stopped in. As I walked in I was immediately hit with nostalgia, old school booth seating and counter stools!! "So kool" and old clock in the wall "the kind that all diners had in the 70s" and a smell from the fryer's that I haven't smelled in year "such great memories" I ordered a Apple Fritter $2 and a decaf coffee $1.50, the Fritter was cooked crispy on the outside and soft in the center "could not ask for anything better" the coffee was smooth and not bitter " also ver nice" They also serve and array of sandwiches as well as bananas and hard-boiled eggs. I picked up a too good to go order. I have gone to maple leaf doughnuts previously and always enjoyed their doughnuts. So when I saw on too good to go I decided to try. Bag was full but doughnuts were awful. Doughnut holes were dry. And so were the rest of the doughnuts. I really think it was days past yesterday's doughnuts. Waste of money. And pickup was supposed to be 1:30 to 2:50 and it got changed at approx 1pm to 1-2:40. I see in previous comments that their time slot was also changed. Why don't you just make it 1-2:40 to start with. I also see people who,paid regular price complained about dry doughnuts. There must be new ownership because the store looks totally different and I didn't recognize people. Dry doughnuts, tastes bitter to me, not worth the money at any price. I got the egg & cheese bagel sandwich (with sriracha as an extra) - picture included. It was sooo delicious that I was thinking about getting another after I sadly inhaled mine in 2 minutes. Stopped by here on Saturday morning around 7am! I usually go to Rose Donuts a few roads down, but I thought what the heck why not try something new?! I got a dozen classic donuts for 10.50! They had a ton of variety including cake, glazed, etc. They also have those specialty bakery items like an apple pastry kind of deal. I haven't tried their sandwiches, but it seems like they also have quite a selection in that department. I'd say that it's a great place to stop by quickly if you're in a rush. The parking lot is easy to maneuver and there was no line. I'd say the original glazed donuts aren't as good as Stans, but all in all a really solid spot for a Saturday morning breakfast! read more

The quality of these donuts have gone down while the price has gone up. I can no longer afford to buy my donuts here since the original owners retired and sold the place to a different family. My heart breaks at this. I just want to cry because I felt I lost a part of me. Some of the original paintings and pictures ate completely gone too. I want quality donuts at a fair price not at a price that people in a broke neighborhood can't tolerate. You are better off going to Safeway to buy your donuts. Stopped by yesterday as it was the nearest easy donut shop for me to get to. $5 minimum for card and each donut was only $1 so I had to get 5 of them. -Chocolate glazed yeast donut - don't know how long it was sitting out there but tasted quite stale. I had to put it in the microwave for a few seconds and it still didn't taste all that great. Didn't super like the glaze either. -Strawberry glazed yeast donut - not bad. The yeast donut was much better than the chocolate yeast. Maybe it wasn't sitting out for so long. The glaze was kind of chunky though - it would kind of fall off in pieces after you bit into it. -Regular glazed yeast donut - standard, nothing amazing or overly fluffy but at least it wasn't stale. -Blueberry cake donut - probably my favorite out of the ones I tried. The cake was soft and moist with a slight crunch on the outside. -Old-fashioned - so-so for me. I know these tend to run on the sweeter side but it was really overly sweet for me. The texture was spot on though. Probably wouldn't return. I feel like there are better donut places in the area I would try first. read more

What used to be my favorite donut shop is now a ghost version of itself. Fewer selection items and lackluster service seem to be the norm now. This was my go-to place. Good selection, friendly and quick service. Sorry to say COVID has hit them pretty hard. The last few visits have really left me wondering what is going on. The selection of donuts seems to be really thin. Today all that was left was a few glazed or one sugar. They used to put in a few donut holes if you bought a few donuts, sadly that hasn't happened the last 4-5 times I have visited. The donuts taste more stale than fresh. Not sure about how often they are changing the oil. I know they suffered during COVID and had to really cut back. It just seems like they haven't fully ramped up yet. So sad. Delicious! My family has been going here for 30+ years, and management has changed quite a few times, though the newest, current management is very sweet. Their donuts are always fluffy and the glazes have that satisfying gentle crunch that I find ideal in the perfect batch. When I open a box and take my first bite, I always think, "Ah yes now THIS is what I call a donut." Random side note, but these donuts are SO good with black coffee. I was never a black coffee person to begin with, but I became one of *those* people during the pandemic when I started brewing my own coffee at home.
