    Ube & Hojicha Gelato
    Fiona K.

Perfect for matcha lovers! Matsu has a variety of strength levels & flavors for both their drinks & their gelato. Parking / vibe: lots of parking as Matsu is in a plaza with many other businesses. They have an alright amount of seating inside but it can get packed pretty quick. Very clean & organized, though. Drinks / Gelato: as someone who LOVES strong matcha, this is the perfect spot. We tried the triple matcha & banana pudding matcha einspanner which were both great. We also got tried their ube, black sesame, ultra rich matcha, & hojicha gelato. My top 2 had to be the triple matcha & black sesame gelato but honestly enjoyed everything.

[Food/Drinks] - Gelato in cup ($8.25): Can choose up to 3 flavors, but I choose Strawberry Cheesecake & Hojicha. Both were really good and helped balanced each other out as the Strawberry Cheesecake gelato was a tad sweet. - Hojicha Latte ($6.65): Pretty good, although I think next time I would increase the sweetness a bit. [Service] - Order via kiosk and pick up your order once you see your order # on the screen or when the staff calls your name [Overall] - Would come back again for the gelato!

When in need of a late night sweet treat, Matsu Matcha is a good option. Despite coming here at 9pm (to be fair, on a Saturday), there was a long line out the door. They also had a 10% discount on the gelato for the last hour before closing. There is only one kiosk to order off of, so it took us around 15 minutes to get inside and place our orders. The seating was full, but we were able to snatch a table when someone was leaving. The menu was quite large, so it was hard to even pick what to get! There's ice cream, drinks, and parfaits that all looked tempting. We ended up getting the peach rice mochi yogurt, extra strong matcha latte, and uji matcha #3 / ultra rich matcha #5 gelato scoops. The peach rice mochi yogurt tastes exactly like Yoplait peach yogurt (almost wondering if that's what they used LOL), but the mochi inside was suuuper satisfying - added great chew and texture to the drink. But would probably just make at home myself next time with Yoplait. The extra strong matcha latte was indeed very strong, and they for sure didn't skimp out on the matcha. Very rich, and a mix of earthiness and sweetness. The gelato was very flavorful as well, with a clear difference in strength between the #3 and #5. I'm personally a fan of not-super-sweet ice creams, so I was a fan of these two scoops. I'd try avoiding the line and wait next time (although I'm not too sure what the best time of day would be for that), but I'll be ordering the parfait to try next!

I enjoyed three generous scoops of dark matcha ice cream on a cone. It was creamy, bitter, but deeply flavorful in the way I like it. Paired it with their smooth Matcha cheese cream drink which was deliciously balanced. Fresh ingredients and friendly service make it a solid spot. Slightly pricey but worth it.

I was excited try Matsu Matcha with so many matcha spots popping up in South Bay. We came by on a Saturday afternoon and luckily there wasn't much of a wait. I got an iced bayberry matcha while my partner opted for the peach yogurt drink. The bayberry matcha was nice but I thought it could have been creamier. Bayberry is one of my favorite fruits but somehow in the matcha, it was pretty grainy and didn't mix well. The peach yogurt drink was good - we got it 30% sweet so it was a tad bland but still refreshing. Overall not bad but I do wish the drinks were a bit better.

This is a small matcha-focused spot located amongst a larger aggregation of restaurants, cafes, and dessert cafes. Finding parking can be difficult when the area is busy, but it normally isn't too bad. The interior is clean and the space is small, with limited seating. After ordering on the tablet, I find that our drinks come out reasonably quickly. The highlights here are the matcha drinks and the various ice creams that they sell. Most of their menu comprises of variants of the two (with some additional drinks, desserts, and matcha powders as well). The main draw for me is the matcha, which is the central flavor and theme. I really love the massive variety of matcha drinks they offer; there are different creams, milks, purees, and matcha concentrations to suit a wide variety of palates. Their ice cream is also top-tier--the black sesame and osmanthus rice flavors are my personal favorite. Plus, if you come in just before closing, you get a small discount! The main issue I have with this spot is the pricing. Their drinks can rocket into the $8-$9 range (before tax and tip!), which can leave your bill at nearly $10 a drink! Though their matcha is good, it is hard to justify such a price when there are a litany of other matcha places that offer lower prices without a noticeable difference in quality. There is no WiFi access, and the bathroom is often out of order, which makes sitting down to study or relax a little bit harder. That said, I still won't count this spot out. I really do love the flavor of their matcha, and their ice cream is top tier (and more than worth it with the discount). I'd say give it a try, but be mindful of the prices.

    Peach Rice Mochi Yogurt(Seasonal)

DoorDash order because I heard so many good things about their matcha. When I opened the menu, there are so many choices that I just don't know what to choose. Finally I decided on the Peach Rice Mochi Yogurt(Seasonal) just because it's seasonal! The drink was very good! I added matcha jelly at the bottom and it was a bit hard to suck it up with a thin straw. The drink had good yogurt flavor and a slight texture of rice mixed in. I also appreciate that the drink's texture remained consistent over the few hours I slowly sipped it. If only it would be less expensive then it would get a 5 star.

The Matcha here is so good! I was thoroughly impressed by the quality of the Matcha and the drinks. You order via a kiosk and there's a screen with an estimated time of how long the drinks will take. I went in on a Tuesday around 2pm and it was pretty busy. Our order took about 12 minutes, despite there only being two orders ahead. It looked like there was only two staff. I ordered the matcha with cookie butter cold foam. The sweetness was perfect for me and the drink was creamy and smooth, just how I like it. My husband got the brown sugar matcha and it was alright. Not as creamy but the matcha was strong and it had a good brown sugar taste but a bit too sweet despite the sugar adjustment. Overall I think this spot is worth the hype. I probably wouldn't be back on a weekend as the service was a little slow but the drinks were definitely good.

This is the second time I've been here. This time they have more flavors for drinks and gelato. I'm glad to see that they have Ube in the menu. I was debating if I should get a gelato like last time but I saw the Ube matcha latte so I made up my mind and chose that drink instead. I'm happy that I did 0% sugar as I can taste the matcha more. However, I feel like the Ube flavor can be improved on as its taste is hiding under the matcha flavor. My friend let me tried the triple matcha and that was sweet compared to my drink which is understandable as it's 80% sugar. I'll come back again next time and try it but with 0% sugar. The service was good as they're nice for us while we ask to try some gelato flavor. However I can't tell much about the ordering system as we did it through a kiosk. With the ambiance, it's good for hangouts as it gives casual vibes but sadly there's not a lot of seating spots as it's a small space which is a typical size for like a boba/dessert place.

I have ordered their pistachio matcha. It was so creamy smooth and tasty. It was very fresh even though I ordered it at home. I would highly recommend this place if you are a matcha lover.

My daughter loooves matcha. Saw this place a couple weeks ago when we went for a Korean food nearby. Took my daughter yesterday to try this place. We ordered Mayberry matcha and one matcha with 50% sweetness. The one has the perfect sweetness at 50% but the Mayberry is still a little too sweet. The matcha taste is awesome, after mixing them together they blend well. They put so much ice in the cup, I feel that we only get 1/3 of the liquid that's trying to fill the gap between ice. It will also be nice to have the name of the gelato written in front of the gelato buckets.

Be prepared for a long wait on weekends and during peak hours. Lots of parking as it's part of a big shopping complex. We came on a warm Saturday afternoon and the line was out the door! You order via a kiosk. After we put our order in for the guava matcha we waited about 10 minutes before our drink came out. The drink was well worth the wait! The perfect level of sweetness and the guava flavor was delicious! There is some indoor seating but it was full so we decided to take our drink to go. We will definitely keep coming back!

I came here at night after dinner, and had a great time! After a certain hour, their ice cream becomes discounted. Inside is a small shop with some seating, but it seems to be crowded. We were able to try flavors too! I got black sesame, hojicha, and a berry flavor. I loved my combination! The texture was creamy, and flavors strong. Would definitely come back when I am in the area

I chose to do a DIY regular taco with s'mores ice cream, peanut butter dip, and oreo toppings. The flavors mixed so well together! None of it was overpowering the other, so you're able to enjoy each bite and not feel overloaded by the end. They freeze dry the taco as well so it doesn't melt right away once it hits your hands. This is the perfect place to grab a sweet treat on any occasion! BIG heads up though, it can get extremely busy especially on a weekend (was here on a Sunday evening). I think we went on a day where they might've been short a few people, but we did wait over an hour for our order. From my observations there is a process for the tacos. They have to mold the ice cream in, then keep it in the freezer for a few minutes for it to hold its shape, and customize it after. If you're willing to wait that long for ice cream then I'd say this place is definitely worth it.

After three attempts the place an order online (over the course of a week), with zero response, AND leaving a message on the catering voicemail, I went back to the website and found an email address for Lori. While she was responsive, it was a frustrating element while planning for an event. I even tried calling the store multiple times, which was never answered, and the voicemail suggests not to leave a message because it's rarely checked. (The store doesn't open until 5:45pm) There is no way to talk to a live person. While we ended up using the pickup option, I was surprised to be told that they do not sell or supply dry ice, even though it is listed on their website that it is used for deliveries. Everyone at my event loved the ice cream tacos, but I was disappointed that was such a hassle to set up.

The place was situated in a quiet plaza just outside of Lawrence Expressway. There's ample parking but it doesn't feel like the location is suitable for a cafe where you can picture sitting inside looking through some big windows facing a busy pedestrian walkway. However, once I stepped inside, I was surprised at how zen and peaceful the decorations were and how fitting it was for a cozy and quiet cafe hangout. The cake shelf was surprisingly busy. And this is where I took one star out because the lines were confusing and the staff skipped me to talk to the group behind me while I was clearly the next to be helped. Luckily another staff member came out from the back kitchen and jumped in to help. The staff spoke fluent mandarin. I was interested in their box cakes. A few of the yelpers raved about their soy milk cake and luckily they had one out for sampling. It was covered with lots of cream and the cake layer was soft and moist, but it was still slightly too sweet for me and I felt that it lacked the tofu kind of soy flavor. Then, I spotted on their menu that they have a black sesame matcha box cake, and black sesame is always my favorite, so I asked for it. They had the last one left! The staff said she had never tried it so she couldn't tell me if it is less sweet than the soy milk cake. Since it was the last one available and I already sampled the soy cake, I decided to give it a try. I am happy that I did. The cake was filled with matcha mousse and tasted light and aromatic with the jasmine kind of matcha flavor. It is definitely less sweet. Unfortunately, it doesn't have as much black sesame as I'd like. But overall, the cake flavor is the kind that I like, subtle, moist, and not too sweet. $38 for a box cake of 4x4 is a bit pricey, but I'm glad that I gave it a try. The cakes were freshly made and tasted best the same day of purchase. They also recommend refrigerating the cake and consuming it within a day or two.

The employee was incredibly kind and even had me hover my hand over the rice to check the temperature. It was definitely still hot, so he happily packed the poke separately for us. I'm so glad he did because everything tasted great once we got home. The poke was fresh, flavorful, and surprisingly saucy, which we loved. Comes with seaweed salad. While they don't offer many toppings and add-ons as a traditional poke shop, the quality and price make it an excellent value. It's actually perfect for my daughter since she prefers her poke without a lot of extras. We'll definitely keep coming back--not just for the mochi donuts, but for the poke bowls too!

We stopped by Melo Melo for dessert and really enjoyed the experience. We tried the ube and black…read moresesame flavors, and both were delicious. The ube had a smooth, creamy texture with just the right amount of sweetness, but the black sesame was the standout for me. It had a rich, nutty flavor that wasn't overly sweet and quickly became my favorite. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and our order was prepared quickly. Even though it was our first visit, they made the experience easy and enjoyable. The shop has a clean, modern aesthetic with a cozy atmosphere that's perfect for a quick dessert stop.

I ended up buying four different flavors, and we ate one there in the shop. Later that night, both my husband and I developed pretty bad stomach aches. At first, I thought it might have been dinner, but the next day I ate another jar and experienced the same stomach pain, and my husband did as well after eating his. We also noticed that the jelly seemed much more watery than we expected. The store itself was very warm during our visit, the bathroom was out of service, and the cashier wasn't particularly friendly. Unfortunately, based on our experience, we don't think we'll be returning.
