I asked another server to trade in the sauce, he stood chatting to other servers so I got up out of my seat to ask him if he was getting the sauce. He couldn't find my server so he just dropped it, then told me there would be a $2 up charge. When my server finally appeared I was already done. Because they genuinely care and made a huge effort to get information from me and to rectify the the whole situation. That to me is not something you see from a lot of businesses. Way too expensive for the food and quality. Each time we have been there, at least one of the meals has not very good (my fish dish recently was extremely dry). And to cap it off- they add a surcharge to the bill - not a tip. Just an extra charge they add. There is no signage or up front notification. Just "surprise! Really cool spot, but not a good place for dinner. Went for dinner with 6 guys before a concert and it was clear that this place is not well run. They had a lot of kids working that weren't attentive or interested in customers. Waitress got one of our entree orders completely wrong and said we could keep the mistake order (but she'd have to charge us for it) and brought the wrong drink another time (but didn't charge us). We asked the guys who served our food for extra mayo and they just shrugged and walked away. We gave 3 cards and asked to split our $200 bill three ways and it came back with three checks: two at $70 and one at $60 - clearly not evenly. Our table was broken and super wobbly and the top wasn't event fully attached. Would go for a drink and a show again but pick another place to eat dinner. This restaurant has the best view of the beach. When we visited last summer (2020), there was a line in order to get a table, but security tried their best to expedite the process by checking ID's throughout the line and handing out wrist bands for those over of 21 and older. We had the option to sit downstairs , upstairs patio or inside ( bar area i believe) we were mostly interested by the view so we remained patient to get what we wanted. It was totally WORTH IT! We got drinks and food, the pina colada were so good that we almost chugged them without realizing. There is a live band that does take request from the patrons, and everyone there wanted to have a good time, and we did just that! I will be honest and say some tables did get a bit rowdy, and if they got out of control security took care of it. Just something to keep in mind if you're bringing kids along with your party. Great oceanfront bar/restaurant/venue. Right on the boardwalk of Hampton Beach so guests have a great view of the Atlantic Ocean. I'm unsure if Ive ever eaten the food here but the drinks are always cold. Ha. The 1 drink per person rule makes getting a drink for your Friends/partner annoyingly difficult during concerts. Most recent concerts I attended are GZA 6/22 and Bone Thugs & Harmony on 9/4. Great sound, great stage view, mediocre light shows. Bone thugs was so packed it was hard to move haha. What a great show though. Exiting afterwards was a total shitshow with only 1 exit which is a long staircase so it makes things challenging for a crowd. I would 100% recommend Bernies for a visit though. read more

Pooor service. 3 people at the bar three bartenders and no one is taking my food order. They just keep avoiding eye contact.

I paid for 2 dinners and 1 soda and it cost $68, which is fine is the food was ok. My meal was $35 and it was nasty. I couldn't even eat it. I would have preferred to eat cart food from the middle of the side walk. All I can say is run away. Based on my experience this establishment has flawed, discriminating employees and shall I say - racists based on my experience. Every staff member that walked by me bumped into my chair "INTENTIONALLY" if my seat is constantly being hit out of the 8 folks in my party. My $35 red snapper was all bones. So to ensure I remained cool I just left instead of addressing the blatant ignorance their staff clearly displayed. FORTUNATELY I will never return and will be sharing my experience everywhere it is relevant and appropriate. I love this place they usually have live music or a good tunes playing. They definitely have that island beach hut vibe. It's very chill especially the upstairs. I love the food. Everything I've had there so far is delicious. I had the snapper and the mahi mahi both with the chipotle mash and corn on the cob. The vibes are nice and so are the artists who play there. Service seems much better upstairs. I don't know if it was the atmosphere or look of downstairs maybe they just need to work on decor downstairs. Upstairs is vibrant. This is a disappointing review to leave. My wife & I had dinner at Bernie's in early fall (off season) last year and were pleasantly surprised. The opposite experience today. Restaurant was fairly busy upstairs and out onto the deck. There were a *LOT* of employees everywhere... idk if they were all a degree of waitstaff, mixed in with managers and 'busboys'? but overall id say like 3 times? the amount Id expect at a restaurant? Our server was clearly very inexperienced. Complete monotone (which id say is fine, so long as you're very good). All fried seafoods were listed as 'market price' (aka mystery price) which again... i suppose is fine. We asked for what we thought was a simple thing; (even if it was extra since really we had no idea yet what the price was anyway) a 2-way fried seafood combo fish and shrimp. Waiter simply said 'sorry no'. When we got our food mine looked like Id gone to a buffet and tossed food on a plate like I was in a hurry... worse, it was cold, the wifes was flavor-less and room temperature. When i returned mine the waiter apologized, offered to bring something else or have mine remade and said he'd tell the kitchen my food was cold.. the food didn't come out of the kitchen cold, the temp was the server's fault. My un eaten meal was removed from the bill, wife's we paid for. We left hungry and drove to another seafood restaurant. 1 good, 1 bad experience.. 50/50 ratio means a return is highly unlikely read more

This is way overdue as I went last year just as they were opening their new expanded area and am looking forward to another summer season. Family from all over was flying in for a reunion and we really wanted to stay along the beach. The staff at Bernie's went way beyond to accommodate our group. As it turned out, the rain came in, we sadly couldn't sit outside to enjoy the specular views of the ocean. But it all came together. They put tables all together so we could visit and the food was amazing. Most everyone had seafood since some traveled from California and Arizona. The doors have just opened so we've stopped in a few times. Again, I still love the chowder - big piece of bacon added as garnish...who doesn't like bacon right? They have a variety of summery signature drinks to quench your thirst on a hot day. It is THE place to go when the Temps rise as everyone has the same idea to hit this spot on there day at the beach so be prepared to put your name on the list and wait to get a spot so you don't miss out on the fun. All the places will have a long wait so just chill and check out the strip as its fun to people watch and look out at the ocean waves. The owner is great, he hires students from all over to give them an opportunity to learn. I think there was a newspaper write up a few years ago. Anyway, be sure to ask your server where they are from so you can learn about other places and help make their experience here fun too! Like most popular places...it's hopping! There's live music and a huge dance floor and another bar area. There's really comfy lounge chairs too...if you can get there early to snag them. The place is open and airy so bring a sweatshirt for when the sun goes down and you want to hang out. If it does happen to rain and cool off they will close up the overhead doors to keep the wind out to warm you up as Bernie's is open all summer long rain or shine. The sidewalk level is also open and a little more intimate if you want to sit and talk quietly. It's smaller with tables and chairs around the bar. Perfect if you want to come off the beach to grab a cold beverage or two. Looking forward to another summer in Hampton. Great to see all of the growth and improvements over the past few years. The best part about this place is the view. Make sure you go to the top floor for a good view of the ocean. The food was okay, nothing to brag about. My husband got the burger, my kid got the chicken tenders and I got the captains combo. It was one of the priciest meal in the menu and it was a lot of food for sure. Went on a Tuesday, not too crowded, and we got a great seat on the second deck with full beach view. Food was wonderful. Had a great fish dish. Server's attentiveness was so-so. Alcoholic drinks were completely watered down - could barely taste alcohol. Expected better drinks for $17 apiece. But worst part of experience was leaving a cash tip to Taylor the server, then checking my credit card the next day and shocked that I was charged an additional $12 tip that I did not agree to. I saw no notice on the receipt or anywhere else that I would automatically be charged a tip. Probably won't go back for these reasons. read more

Yet most of all it's the staff Who keep us coming back. We just recently visited hampton beach this past weekend and it was mob scene busy. When we went to ask how long the wait was they told us 2-2.5 hrs. I have a toddler so I laughed with the manager at the host stand and told him there's no way she would wait but thank you. He took one looked at her and told me to wait a min. He arrange something with a server and she took care of us in the VIP section. From service staff, kitchen runners and bussers, the was staff continued to check on us all night, making sure we were being taken care of. Our server Alexandria was on point with everything and she was so friendly. We had a small mistake with one meal and a different manager immediately came over and asked what she could do to fix the problem.
