I have been to private parties, before and after Cub games, and on Fall Saturdays for College football on the TVs in the good old days. We got here right before the Cubs game ended on a Sunday, and found a seat right away. It started filling up as soon as the Cubs game ended! Our waitress didn't visit us very often... But the food came out extremely quick! Everything tasted super good! It gets pretty loud in here, but of course that's to be expected because it is a sports bar. Around 530 they started closing the entire inside without letting us know what was going on... Our waitress said that her shift was ending so she closed us out. We ended up moving outside because every table was being bussed and they shut down the inside bar... Kind of weird. Also, adding this about an hour later, it's 6 o'clock and they are now closing the outdoor person of the bar. A friend recommended this spot while we were in the area for a show at the Metro. We were bar hopping around and decided to stop in. They had happy hour running with some good deals on food, and it happened that it worked perfectly for our group of three since the sliders and fish tacos came in a trio. The food was surprisingly good for bar food. We all liked the fish tacos the best as the fish was fresh and had a bit of spicy sauce. The sliders came with fries and I liked the crispy onions. Bernie's was a great spot for a bite to eat and a drink! The bartender was on the spot with service and we didn't wait long for anything. We were there during off season so it wasn't busy, which was nice. If I lived nearby, I could see this place becoming a regular spot for me. read more

WALK RIGHT PAST TO THE SPOT NEXT DOOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I could rate this place into the negatives you bet I would. I literally didn't even step foot IN this place before getting THROWN by the bouncer to the curb for no reason the second I approached the door. Which, I HAVE requested their video surveillance (as proof of my situation) which of course got denied. All numbers listed just ring or are not in service. I visited for the Cubs game this past weekend on 6.21.25. I got lost from my group in Chicago and found a Canes outside the stadium. I sat there bawling my eyes out (as anyone would who isn't from Chicago and ALONE) until my friend was able to find me. We sat outside of Canes (DIRECTLY across the street from Bernie's) for about an hour eating and people watching as I calmed my nerves. We decided to WALK to Bernie's (again, being right across the street) and as soon as we went to open the door is when the bouncer physically assaulted me by FORCEFULLY shoving me to the curb (and I mean this was a hard shove from a MAN who is well over 6ft+ and had an easy 150lbs+ on me. I'm 5'6 and 130lbs wet for reference). After the shove I said "WTF. I havent even been in here, how am I kicked out?" then he shoved me again. Thats when I backed down and called the POLICE which of course were absolutely NO help and said "They trespassed you" and told me to leave. I asked police for their information and they denied me that. Said ID have to get it from the bouncer but I wasnt allowed to go back and speak with him. How can I be trespassed from a spot I literally have NEVER EVER been to in my entire 27 years of living?? Don't waste your time here. According to other reviews, they just want to steal your money and THE ROACHES. Ew. Anyways, for the staff here reading this, I pray you find the help you need and stop putting hands on people just cause you're at work and can get away with it easier. A simple conversation could have settled this differently. My wife and I were visiting Chicago and were excited to see our SF Giants play the Cubs at Wrigley. We wanted to get a few drinks before the game but not at any of the sterile corporate bars. Bernie's looked like it had some character so decided to give it a try. It was a little crowded but we were able to get 2 seats at the bar and quickly made friends with some Cubs fans. Came into Bernie's on a Saturday afternoon for some lunch and it was a great experience. The prices for drinks and food aren't too expensive, like everywhere else in Wrigley. They also have specials that lower the price even more - you can't go wrong with $15 bottomless mimosas and half off all appetizers on the weekends! $10 beer pitchers are also a fantastic option. We were looking for a place to eat near Wrigley before a Cubs game, and we ended up at this gem! We couldn't find a seat anywhere 1 hour before game time, but a table opened up as we were walking by : ) I was worried that our food wouldn't come soon enough, but 5 minutes later our food was hot and on the table! Everything we ordered was solid. The Italian beef was not Portillo's quality, but very respectable. And the tater tots were a home run! My daughter ordered the chicken tenders and they were very good, as were the French fries. Other daughter went healthy and ordered the hummus plate and she was delighted with her meal. Wow, what a great little spot with a lot of patio space in Wrigley. Stumbled upon this while looking for a place to get a drink and was pleasantly surprised. Clean tables, draft beer, lots of servers quickly bringing drinks. While we didn't order food, the other people were and seemed happy. Low key crowd so we will definitely come back. Couple of notes though. After a post Covid reopen, they weren't as clean and strict as the other establishments we've visited. Servers squeeze the lime in your drink or in one case delivered it with her thumb in it because of the way it was carried. There are arrows on the floor to promote which direct to go but it's a little unclear why and where they are pointing to. Bathrooms are t super clean but we did watch them wipe down the tables with antibacterial solution between guests. Tables are spaced out accordingly and staff is wearing masks. Normally, I wouldn't be concerned but after being at other places, there is some improvement that could be done. Still we will be back. Really happy with this place. read more

Wish I could give this place 0 stars. Walked in on a Saturday with a party of 11, all adults, well over 21. No one was at the door. We walked in to find a table. A man behind the bar (potentially the bouncer???) started yelling "yo yo yo" to 5 women. Didn't say much to the men. I'm 27 years old and was trying to get my ID out and he started screaming!!! My sister and her friends grabbed tickets to Pearl Jam on Sat at the last minute. I was prepared to hear the music second hand with a companion but decided to catch the Bears game. Big Star was hectic and the tvs were off; I went by Casey Moran's and asked the security guy if they'd be showing the Bears game; he shrugged and said no, but I could clearly see the NFL network on. I headed over to Bernie's, where there was plenty of room and televisions. I had a table to myself, and a cool waitress named Ania (?) took care of me. She checked on me regularly and was so helpful! In the winter of 06, my roommate and I joked while walking down Clark St that we should go to Casey Moran's more often sheerly out of the principle that it was cold and much closer to us than the bars south of Addison. As the temperatures dipped, the joke then ended up being that we'd go to Bernie's because it was 30 feet closer than Casey Moran's. Ironically, in 2007 Bernie's did become the bar that started off many summer nights. I love this bar. If I could label one bar in Chicago "my" bar, it would be Bernie's - hands down. Bernie's is your typical Wrigleyville 2 room pub with a narrow front room lined with tables that gives way to a larger back room. The beer garden is covered with ample seating, and on Sunday nights in the summer there is almost always a game of bags being played. A few years ago, they added an upstairs area (I believe there used to be apartments on that level) that is a little more upscale looking than the pub look below with mauve colored walls and tile designs. One warning: the tile upstairs is very slippery when wet, and it is easy to slip! Bernie's is a family owned establishment, and if you patronize their bar regularly (Sun-Thurs and before midnight on the weekends), their bartenders will take the time to get to know you and hold a pretty decent conversation. The music isn't too loud (they do turn it up when they get busy) and they have good bar food for when you want to munch after a few drinks. I first came here midweek in the Spring of 2007 when a date and I wandered over after Uncommon Ground had closed for the night. He had paid for dinner, so when he went to the washroom, I went to pay the tab. Our tab was $12 and the bartender informed me that there was a $20 minimum for cards. I told him to run it for $20 because I didn't have cash and he offered me shots so that I could get my money's worth. Seeing that this was a first date, I didn't want to get loopy while he was walking me home, so politely declined. He then handed my card back to me and said "don't worry about it." I felt bad because I wanted to tip him, and he said a tip to him wasn't worth ripping me off for two drinks. I have since been served by this bartender numerous times and he gets no less than 40% from me every time. However, over the years my bill isn't always as large as it should be. The only negative part (and it's become more funny than anything lately) about Bernie's is that they do have a Wrigley vendor named Donnie that parks himself there regularly. Donnie is your typical creepy old man (mullet and all) that thinks he can date cute young girls. One day, he asked a bartender to put my next drink on his tab and ever since he gives me the full court press whenever he sees me. My friends find this hilarious, but I always feel so bad for him! So if an old guy in mullet offers you a drink, don't take it! He will never leave you alone! This winter due to the business of my job, family commitments, and various adventures in dating, I took a slight social vacation from the bar hopping that had fueled my previous summer. Last weekend, I made my way down to Bernie's Sunday afternoon for lunch and a drink. Other than a brief stop in on St Patty's Day, I hadn't been there since November. As we walked in the door my friends showed their IDs and as usual I fished for mine in my huge purse until I heard the bouncer say "Are you serious? Alexis, you're good." Great place for beer and food before a cubs game! We always try to get there close to their opening time on a game day. You can always count on cold beer, delicious food, and great service. My favorite is the cheddar bacon BBQ burger. I always share it with my husband so we can still eat something at the baseball game. :) We usually sit in the bar area up front but yesterday we sat in the second bar. This area has high top tables, another bar, and plenty of TVs. We sat at the bar top and talked to the bartender, Tim. He was very accommodating...kept our drinks filled, brought food menus, and even changed the TVs to a football game we wanted to see. Bernie's also has a patio/beer garden in the back.
