this review is long overdue!! ive brought all my cars here since 2016 and Ike has been the BEST mechanic. i drive all the way from San Diego to come here because i know he'll do it best. a couple months ago, i brought him my Mitsubishi Lancer for an oil change, new parking brake, and an exhaust. all done on the same day! yesterday, i brought in my Subaru Impreza 2.5RS for a new suspension and couldn't be happier with how it turned out. you can bring your own parts/fluid if you want. A great family owned and honest business. I called for an appointment and was told 8am on the day I picked. I showed up at 7:55 and could not find the door to go in. So I called and he just said, "it is not 8 yet." I loved that. At 8 he actually came to get me. The work was done so fast and no up sale. Just a good honest business. Worth noting. I provided the struts and shocks to be installed, it was labor only. He did it in 2 hours and was 1/3 of the price of Pep Boys, who said I'd need to leave my car for the day. "Blink-Blink" that annoying light at the dashboard just reminded me that I have 500 miles left until my next service...and boy this is going to be a big one - the 30K full service. Called the closest dealerships to get a quote, after a few comparison I decided to visit with my brother and hear his suggestion. To make the long story short I went with what my brother had suggested, Ike's Auto Repair (formerly known as J&R) is a family owned business, a mom & pops that cater to the automotive needs of the neighborhood. I was surprised to find out that they use Original Manufacturer parts and necessary juices for my car which I am really happy to know as my RAV4-S require a different tranny oil compared to the regular RAV's. He has an assortment of engine oil of different weights and density. The engine oil depends on what brand you desire but he will suggest the specific weight & density needed for your vehicle. My previous cars have been extremely happy with Lube Molly which I am also thrilled to find out that he carries. His waiting room is fairly simple, a table, a few chairs nothing fancy so bring something to entertain you while you wait for your car. Overall I was really thrilled with my car service, my tires rotated & pressure checked, break pads checked, air filter & cabin filter replaced and most of all my engine is feeling the new Synth. Oil and runs great! Happy to support the mom & pops, I'm glad I came to Ike's. A happy car means a happy wallet. read more

My car needed new shocks/struts and after speaking to another mechanic who quoted me a good price I decided to purchase the parts myself but when I finally took it in they magically raised the price almost double. That's when I found Ike's Auto Repair on Yelp and I decided to give them a call because of all the positive reviews. Ike quoted me a really good price just for installation and I decided to bring my car here on a Monday I had off work. Gave me the same price he quoted me, did not change the price on me like the other place. Even offered me a loaner car to dive home so I didn't have to wait because it was going to take upwards of 3 hrs. I didn't know how to drive a stick so I passed but a nice gesture nonetheless. Ike gave me updates on my car so I could come check it out as he was working on it when he removed my old struts when he installed the new ones before he put the tires on etc. Overall extremely helpful. He recommends OEM but can also help you find cost effective after market parts. In my opinion though OEM is the way to go. Went to toyota to see how much it would be to replace rear liftgate shocks because the lift gate wouldn't stay up anymore... Not only did I have to wait in line and go through 2 or 3 people and spend nearly 30 minutes just to find out they wanted to charge me almost $400 bucks just to replace them. Which of course would mean I would need to leave the car at toyota and would probably have to wait even longer. Went to Ike and he replaced both shocks in 5 minutes for $120. Problem solved in no time at all. Thanks Ike! Also I mean the car is getting older and I understand parts are going to start to fail. But the engine of the car still runs strong. And like most toyotas just continues to run reliably. So for temporary fixes till we get a new car, shops like Ike's auto repair are such a sweet gem in Glendale. read more

I don't even want to give one star because that implies that Ike actually did something. My car broke down in the middle of Glendale late at night on a Friday. We were towed here at about 10:30 at night, so I left my key in the drop box and called right when they opened the next morning. After speaking with Ike for the first time, I should've known things weren't going to go well. I told him about what had happened the night before and he said "I don't know about this, I don't know about your car being towed." No kidding. You were closed, which is why I'm telling you now. Because my car was towed so late at night, the parking lot was gated so the car had to be left on the street directly in front of the shop. Instead of figuring something out, Ike tells me he doesn't know what to do about it. I asked if I should be towed somewhere else, he said no and that he'd figure it out and shoved me off to speak with his wife. Ike calls back later and tells me the problem is my battery. I question this as the car had symptoms of a failed alternator but he insisted it was only the battery, he tested the alternator, and that I come pick it up. He then hangs up on me. I had my husband call back, wondering if he was treating me like crap based on my being a woman, but he was just as rude to my husband and hung up on him too. At this point it's whatever, we just won't ever go back to Ike. BUT. After my husband picks up the car, it BREAKS DOWN AGAIN ONE BLOCK AWAY FROM THE SHOP! Finally I get the car to a decent shop and guess what? The alternator was bad. They replaced it and the car has been running fine since. I had high hopes based on reviews, but my experience was horrible. Maybe he only works on "nice" cars, but does that really matter? You're a mechanic and I wanted to pay you to do your job, but I guess you didn't want to. Truly an awful experience. read more

Ike is probably one of the most honest auto places I have been to. He doesn't mind you bringing your own parts (actually he insists since some parts have better warranty coverage than the parts that he can get). In my case, my mom's car needed a new starter since the one she put in MONTHS ago broke because the auto place she went to told her they put in a "new" starter but malfunctioned. Ike took the part out and when I took a look at it, it was refurbished! He also agreed as he quickly put the new starter in (took less than 10 mins) and charged me for just the labor. Great place! I have struggled for a number of years to find a reputable auto mechanic in the Glendale area. I typically walk out of a shop having been over-charged or was sold something I didn't really want or need. That was not the case today at Ike's. I usually do all my own repairs as I know the job was done right but sometimes I lack the tools for a particular job. This time I needed some suspension & transmission work done and decided to have a look at Yelp which led me to Ike's. I rang his shop at 8am sharp and he picked up the phone and told me to bring my car in. He did not wince when I told him I was supplying the parts. He told me what the cost was for the job (which sounded quite reasonable) and offered to knock some additional $ off of that. The repair was done quickly and professionally and the best part was he held to his quote. I will definitely be a repeat customer. This is a great place to bring your car. I'm the first to admit that I'm not much of a car guy, but I can tell that Ike is a very honest mechanic. He replaced my breaks, changed my air filter, and gave my car a major tune up, all for a very reasonable price.
