In general, the food was good, and the coffee was fresh. It's an old-fashioned diner that's been there for years. I ordered "Biscuits & Gravy" and a fruit cup. It could have used a little more sausage. I was surprised when they gave me four eggs, usually two. It was absolutely packed, with not a single extra seat available. First up, the closing time I think has been changed to 8pm from 9pm. I've been coming here once a week since they became BerryField. Never had any bad experience to complain about. I'm pretty particular about things and I think this place is one of the best restaurants in the SW suburbs. For breakfast I usually get the Gypsy Skillet that actually comes with four eggs; never cooked wrong. I just recently ordered and now addicted to the Patty Melt that is a half pound (pure beef w no gristle) char/flame broiled that is not often seen and always has been perfectly cooked to order. They have great soups too! The waitress/waiters are all helpful and really friendly. Prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get. They always have it decorated for each holiday with pleasant non-obnoxious background music. Alcohol is served, and they now have three Mimosa "towers" which I never even knew was a thing! I can't think of ANYTHING to complain about; worth your patronage for sure! read more

Tried this place March 23, 2022: Pros: This place has a variety of things. My bf had the stuffed French toast and loved it. Cons: I had the heuvos chilaquiles and they were definitely not traditional. It was like they fried a tortilla, topped it with sunny side up eggs, and some strange version of salsa verde. They were okay, not great, but they satiated my craving. No, the caveat here is, I'm very picky when it comes to my chilaquiles- actually with all my Mexican food, and I should know better than to order a Mexican dish at an American restaurant, but I was hoping for the best. Sometimes, places surprise you. Unfortunately, this did not. I also wanted to try their pies (which come from a nearby bakery) but at the time, they only had donuts. Overall: I think my review will increase in stars once I try some of their other menu items. But for now it remains a 3 and I'm still on the lookout for good chilaquiles in the area. read more

If you can get over the fact that it's in a little bit of a sketchy part of town and find parking, this place isn't so bad. The interior's quaint and cozy, and was decorated for the holidays. I ordered my usual when I'm trying a new breakfast place, eggs benedict. My husband ordered an egg dish with pancakes on the side. First of all, both our dishes were two egg dishes, but we were served four eggs each. Nice but unnecessary surprise! Both of our meals were really well done, with no mistakes, decent quality diner food. I will add that the hollandaise sauce was not straight from the powdered pack but tasted as if the chef added some real eggs and butter to it! This was awesome for me because it's really hard to find true hollandaise sauce anywhere, let alone a diner. His bacon was good, and the pancakes were standard pancakes, nothing amazing, but still really tasty. But, if breakfast is not your bag, the menu was loaded with a plethora of choices to satisfy most people. You could certainly do much worse than this place, but as far as diners go, I give it a good rating. I'd probably be a regular here if I lived in Chicago. I decided to give three stars because our wait-person was ... a robot. She wasn't, but she had no emotion or anything that made her relatable. Our order was correct, but there was zero interaction from her that let us know that she wanted to be there, or didn't want to be there, or ANYTHING! It was weird. She made us feel so awkward when she came by that I still remember her, and it's been 2 weeks since we went. To her credit, she was there and getting it done, but really, it's not hard to crack a smile. We are easy and friendly folks, and it was really close to Christmas... The man who checked us out at the counter was very friendly, though, so that was a nice point on the way out. Too bad he wasn't our wait person. That would have earned 4 stars for sure. I did a pick up order from here and the food was pretty tasty! I ordered a smoked skillet and it was really tasty and my cousin had the Gypsy skillet. I would not recommend this breakfast restaurant. The server neglected many aspects of service: Did not refill coffee, neglected to bring pancakes and other items that were to accompany the meal we ordered. As the other yelper Fany wrote a year ago "they add their own tips". The menu does state that they "may" add an 18% tip. However not only did they add 18% but the waitress created her own and added 18% of the bill plus $4 extra for herself. Check your bill carefully if you go here because the waitress is adding her own tip whatever amount she wants! Either the cashier/owner is in on it, or he is turning a blind eye to his waitress swindling the customers! Don't refill any coffee and then create your own tip. The service and associated neglected coffee refills, etc. does not warrant the bill at this place. There are lots of other places to get breakfast food with better service. I would not recommend this restaurant. If I wanted to pay this much for breakfast I would go downtown and get ACTUAL service worthwhile of the pricing at this cafe on 147th street. read more

It was a delight and pleasure to dine here. The restaurant is so nice and bright. Our waitress Amy was amazing!! She was courteous, polite and attentive. She made sure there was nothing we didn't have. The food came quick and was really good. I had the Denver's Omelette, it was huge and hash browns. It was fluffy and not over cooked. We also got the Greek Omelette, have had it at other places was surprised that it came with the greek sauce. The pancakes were light and fluffy like we like them. Service, Food I had a walk in to go order. The guy that took my order was not nice at all. He seemed aggravated that I came in to order. My food was not cooked properly. Didn't even cook the expensive ham that I asked for well done. Burned the hash browns. Grits were tasteless and still not cooked all through. It was edible food but not good tasting to me. It seems like a majority of this business are African Americans, and he seemed liked he wanted me to leave. Not a very nice guy at all. He rolled his eyes while i ordered my to go order. So disrespectful! I went there with my husband and kids. The waitress rushed us with placing our order and her service wash trash. Even when I thanked her every time she gave us something at the end she gave us the check and left then gave other two tables the check and told them thank you for coming and the moms to have a Happy Mother's Day. As we were paying we asked about the extra $10 charge on the bottom and the cashier which I assume is the owner said that's what all the restaurants are doing. I never had the chance for a review on the food. Went in around 11 AM and the place was very crowded. Two waitresses and one side of the restaurant, you could tell the one waitress had a grip on things. Unfortunately I had the other one that you could tell the way she was moving around, she was lost. My son and I ended up leaving the restaurant after sitting for 10 minutes with no service. It's nice to see the restaurants opening in serving customers, but hire somebody that knows what they're doing and can handle more than three or four tables at a time read more

Every time we come in there may be a little wait time however it is always well worth the wait. I appreciate this hidden gem because it has great food, great portions and great pricing! It truly does get busy and full here but I don't mind as we return for birthday breakfasts or just nice family time! They have a very good menu and I have yet to try the dinners because I am going through the breakfast menu and love the food each time. Went there today (4/16/2023). It was busy when we got there, so I was fine with waiting. We place our order and 40 minutes later, we still hadn't gotten our food. I looked around and everyone that was seated after us either had their food or was done eating and leaving. All those people had a different waitress than we did. I went to the owner and asked him to find out how much longer it would be to get our food. Within a minute, the waitress was bringing our food and guess what...it was COLD. I asked how long it had been sitting and she completely ignored the question. I won't lie, I was a little loud because I was mad. All she said is "I can get you hot fries". Hot fries? I asked what about the rest of the food? It's all cold. As she walked away, I said "screw this, I'm not waiting another 45 minutes for hot food, let's go". My family and I left, but before I walked out the door, I gave the owner the courtesy of telling him "I'm leaving". Not sure who's paying for all that food, but it wasn't me.
