I gave up on writing Yelp reviews a while ago, but the service (or lack thereof ) at Berryline in Cambridge has gone so far down hill that I found it necessary to update this one. My office is nearby, sometimes we troop over en masse (about 15 people or so, typically) to get yogurt to celebrate someone's birthday, greet a new intern, etc.. We are a pretty relaxed bunch, we don't rush the folks working, we leave a tip, etc.. We routinely get rolled eyes, smart-aleck comments, and generally rude behavior from the staff (and owner on occasion!). Most recently, we were the only customers on a 5 degree day in January - don't you think they'd be happy for the business? Between this and the attitude they regularly dole out for using a credit card (I get it, you get charged fees.. it sucks, but don't take credit cards if you don't want to deal with it) I think I'm officially done with Berryline, at least the Harvard Sq. location. read more

I used to frequent TCBY until I experienced Berry Line. Huge huge huge fan. Always get a small original with strawberries, banana and granola. Never a long line & prices are reasonable. It has become my new Summertime Sunday night ritual. read more

I stand corrected. My months long (apparently one sided) struggle to get the ingredients list from Berryline has come to an end, as today I received a .pdf from the very friendly co-owner Matt apologizing for the lag time in responding (i'm still a little cranky, but i also don't own a business and can reply to emails quicker so i'll get over it quickly). So, Berryline is not too good to be true. They're just good and fairly simple -AND- use hormone free dairy which is always a huge plus. Pretty much the same stabilizers and emulsifiers in every other fro-yo out there. This all makes me really happy because no one wants to be a hater (especially not me) and I am happy to know that it's safe for me (and most others with food allergies) to eat. One caveat is there -may- be trace amounts of soy and/or gluten in the product for those of you with soy sensitivities or celiac disease, though from the ingredient list I think it may be more on a flavor by flavor basis. For me it would be impossible to tell since those are two things I actually -don't- have to avoid. read more

My favorite meal: a dinner crepe at Arrow Street Crepes, then Berryline just around the corner for dessert. I love how there are new flavors every time I go there, it's like a surprise! I always get 2 toppings: 1 fruit and one crunchy thing, like granola of toffee or graham cracker. Plus, once you buy 10 you get one free with their little punch card! This is a great yogurt shop that I love to whole heartedly support. Always a good mix of flavors between tart, non-fruit (ex: salted carmel toffee). Sure there's pink berry down the street but I'd much rather support the local option. There's also a variety of flavors with friendly staff to let you taste test as many flavors as you'd like. Word is their mochi and granola is home made. My only complaint is sometimes their yogurt is on the soft side whereas I prefer really firm yogurt. read more

With only four (rotating) flavors, a cramped basement location and only tart-ish flavors, I was skeptical about the enthusiasm emanating from Yelp. How could any non-self serve frozen yogurt place be really that great? Berryline somehow accomplishes the impossible. For someone who generally is a fan of cloyingly sweet yogurts in the tradition of cake batter, cappuccino and white chocolate, I was shocked that I could enjoy banana-grahm swirled by somebody else. And since the kind folks at BerryLine aren't topping shy, you'll get the amount of brownies, sprinkles or strawberries you request. If eating frozen yogurt is too chilling on its own, order a tea. It helps the yogurt melt and your body warm as you indulge in a slightly sweet, slightly tart treat. read more

After hearing so many raves about BerryLine, this fro-yo addict had to give it a try. When my boyfriend and I approached the tiny little shop, we were surprised to find a line out the door. Holy shit, does this yogurt contain gold dust? Well, no, but it is tangy and creamy and smooth. I'll settle for that, I guess, in lieu of gold dust. I think I prefer Red Mango, which has a little more tartness, but it's a very close call. Four stars instead of five, because this place had a BerryLine-out-the-freakin'-door (who wants to wait twenty minutes for their fro-yo?); also because they didn't have any raspberries. read more

It took me a little while to figure out where this place was because I am always lost when I'm in Harvard Square, but it is delicious and wonderful. My favorite? Simply the best frozen yogurt that isn't loaded with hidden calories and added sugar. The fruit toppings are always fresh! Tip- get your stamp card, fill it up to earn a free yogurt. Flavors continue to change every two weeks or so, except for original which is delicious. The only drawback is a portion of the staff and really rude and miserable. Ambiance: A bit of a walk from the main Harvard T, Berryline is quaint and cozy. Seating is a bit limited, but you can always burn the calories by walking and eating. It's a relatively healthier treat after all. Your choices are written on 2 walls. Food: There are 3 yogurt flavors: original + 2 others. The other flavors rotate around. So far, I've seen peanut butter, banana, passion fruit... All the flavors are variations of the same original froyo--slightly sour, that is. The toppings consist fresh fruits (e.g. strawberries, banana, pineapple, mango), chocolates (e.g. Reese's, Oreo, Heath Bar), nuts... I wish they had mochi bits though for some Asian twist to it (Yo! Berry has mochi bits and they are delicious). Service: Served by very friendly folks. Always willing to give you a sample of the flavors for you to try. read more

I've been a Berry Line fan for as long as I've lived in Boston, but for some reason am just now reviewing it for the first time. Actually, the reason that I am just now reviewing it for the first time is because recently I've been on a quest to find a tangy froyo establishment that I felt could rival Berry Line. I couldn't do it! In the past month I've been to Chill in Cleveland Circle, Red Mango, and Berry Freeze in Coolidge Corner and none of them have matched the deliciousness of Berry Line. Chill came the closest, and was more affordable, but still didn't have the same feeling. Berry Line's yogurt is the perfect amount of tart blended with the perfect amount of creamy. The toppings are unrivaled. I've yet to try Pinkberry, but I really don't think it'll have anything on my old friend Berry Line. Fresh fruit toppings atop a small cup of a sweet but not too saccharine frozen treat...yum. I had the original flavor with strawberries on top, which was awesome. The nutella frozen yogurt was great and I liked the original too. But what sets this place apart from other frozen yogurt places is the mochi topping. They give you pretty large chunks of it and they don't skimp on how much they give. Moreover, it has the right taste and texture. So this is Boston's answer to Pinkberry! I have to admit, its really good. Its creamier than Pinkberry which in some ways makes it more satsfying, they've got cool flavours like peanut butter, banana and apple. Their toppings could be a little better - my mango bits were kinda tart and graham crackers were HUGE. But for a little home grown store which is the only one of its kinda in Boston - I'm sure I'll have no choice but to come back to fill my frozen yoghurt void...unless of course, Pinkberry comes into town and takes over. read more

I have this idea that somehow if I eat frozen yogurt that a. it will not bother my lactose intolerant innards b. it is somehow healthy c. my belly roll will not increase with each cup I consume. If these things are true, then I am a happy happy girl at BerryLine. I wasn't into froyo at all until I went to visit California and it was the Drug of Choice. And I got hooked because I will eat fruit in anyway that it decides to come. When it comes all pre-peeled and chopped (mangoessssss) all over my tangy raspberry froyo with maybe some blueberries and blackberries and raspberries and strawberries andandand okay, i'm not gonna lie. I'd be just as happy with a bowl o' fruit save the yogurt- but the yogurt adds a nice cold reason to have someone else chop up the fruit. And for all the lactose pain ice cream causes me- summer desserts can be participatory again for me at this very cute, not too many places to sit, but who cares cuz they get you through fast, are patient with the non-decision making friends i went with, and offer free samples til the cows come home, easy to get to place. read more

Very good - tangy yogurt that has a little sweetness, but nothing like a typical frozen dessert. The fruit toppings are a little excessive in price, 80 cents for the first, 70 for the second, etc. However, after speaking to Matt W. through yelp, I now realize that the prices are as low as they can be in order for the store to be profitable. I totally appreciate Matt's honesty and the help has always been super friendly in the store - so that is a huge plus for me. WARNING: Absolutely, by no means, ever, order the pineapple yogurt. My boyfriend and I were deeply saddened to find it tasted bitter, and vaguely like under ripened cantaloupe. Unfortunately, it did not resemble the taste of pineapple at all, and worse, tasted flat out bad. From now on we shall stick to the original flavor, as it is delicious, and less risky than the specials. Overall, highly recommended. This was my second time at BerryLine and I just absolutely love it. The yogurt is great and the fruit extremely fresh. Plus, they're not too skimpy with it and considering it's fresh fruit, the prices really aren't that bad. BerryLine is open until 11:00 Sun-Wed. and midnight Thurs-Sat. which I think is amazing for Boston. The first time I went the staff seemed rude and unhappy, but tonight they all seemed pretty cheery, even with the line out the door. It's healthy, but absolutely delicious and that is my favorite combination everrr. Of course, if you're not a big fan of healthy you can always get the yogurt (they have peanut butter yogurt sometimes!) with candy or cereal toppings and they let you put on your own chocolate syrup (as much as you want) or honey or maple syrup (sounds so strange, but I bet it's amazing). I'm a HUGE BerryLine fan and wish I lived closer!! read more

How can I eat ice cream again, knowing that this paradise exists? I didn't want to have to run to make the next commuter rail back to Beverly, so decided to kill the next hour and a half by staying on the red line and making my way to Berryline. I wish I had the time to actually sit down in the shop (sorta got distracted by the jewelry & book shops along the way), but after tasting the original and coconut, I'm definitely coming back. Super fresh assortment of fruit, and their small was the perfect size. Spent a good while just staring at the menu--I think I already have my next two or three trips all planned out, and can't wait to get back on the next super-sunny day. Oh, and I still ended up running to catch the commuter rail--made it on as it was pulling away. But it was worth it! read more

YUMMMMMM If you've ever been to Mochi, this is essentially the same thing, without the do-it-yourself approach. They are, however, happy to let you sample anything you want before you order. I got the nutella flavored fro-yo topped with white chocolate chips, waffle cone pieces, and pecans. It was orgasmically good. I mean, come on-- Nutella fro-yo. Does it require any more explanation? I could eat this stuff every day, and the fact that is way better for you than ice cream helps a little. I'm interested to see what different flavors they get, as they rotate regularly. When I went they had vanilla, banana, and nutella, and all three were great, but I'd be stoked for some taro or honeydew or something even more exotic as well. read more

It STILL has calories! I know...I know... I know! I have never left this little Harvard square haunt without a smile on my face. I particularly enjoy when they have banana on tap, but the original, mango, blueberry and passion fruit aren't bad options either. The toppings are always the most difficult part of this journey. Fresh fruit (Strawberries, kiwi, blueberries, etc) chocolate, coconut and yogurt chips--the creamy chocolate chip. I could go on for days. I suggest having a plan when you arrive, or you will find yourself quickly panicking when the pretty efficient staff asks you what you would like and you have only finished glancing at the flavors. Staff also has no problem letting you sample the flavors, even when there is a line out the door. Also, make sure you grab a frequent buyer's card. You will be back. Trust me. read more

Very refreshing treat on a hot day. I got the 3 topping special for $4.50. I chose mango, pineapple, and raspberry. I was tempted to add some chips or graham cracker crumbles but decided all fruit was the way to go. The place was so busy when I arrived. The staff behind the counter worked as a team but seemed a little annoyed it was busy. One would yell, "Can I help the next person who knows what they want", then if you were lucky to bypass the families with kids who can't decide their toppings, you went up and gave your order, which was then told the the person next to the listener and made then handed back and you paid with the person on the other side. A little confusing. The guy in front of me had a coupon and the register girl quickly snapped she can't take it, then a guy came out of the back and said they do take it. Maybe the staff needs some more training. I wish the place was bigger with more seating but Harvard Square has lots of places to sit down and eat. The original yogurt was delicious, not too sweet. All the toppings were fresh. I noticed the sign on the door saying, if you don't want to wait in line, please visit out other location in Porter Square. Loved it. I am happy that we have our own little tart yogurt chain in Boston. I've also just been to the new new location in Fenway. I know that the flavors rotate but I think I would like something more raspberryish. I'm not sure the passion fruit had much flavor and the orange had maybe a bit too much flavor. it kinda tastes like orange juice. Like the toppings. Had a nice little friend date here. read more

I'm sorry Harvard students, but berry line frozen yogurt is truly subpar. After multiple visits I have not been able to get past sampling to purchase. If you are a tourist or visitor in town do not be deceived by the raving reviews from locals and all of the high marks and praises on the door of the restaurant. It doesn't take much to make a good frozen yogurt. A little creaminess and rich flavor and a machine that will freeze it all is mostly what I look for. However, berry line frozen yogurt misses most marks. All of the yogurt has a strong heart Greek yogurt type flavor which tastes all right as vanilla but if you add anything into it like Oreo or green tea it becomes a weird muddling of flavors that don't belong. On top of that, the texture is very icy. Well I never thought I would sing the praises of chain- self serve yogurt places like yogurt land and red mango, their average yogurt puts this place to shame. Disappointing visit here keeps me on the search for some decent frozen yogurt in Boston. read more

I love frozen yogurt, as much as I love non-frozen yogurt. It's rich and tangy, and needs only a little something to sweeten it up to make the perfect dessert. I don't like most fro-yo places, especially the ones that sell by weight. I've been to places that use vanilla yogurt that tastes pretty supermarket-y in their original tang flavor. Other places like Pinkberry and Red Mango are too sweet. Berryline is the only place where the yogurt just tastes like good, tangy yogurt. It doesn't seem like a lot to ask but apparently it is. They have free honey and seasonal fruits. When available, the plain yogurt with figs and honey is amazing. One thing to note, their flavored yogurts tend to be subtle; like the original with a hint of lavender, or raspberry or whatever. The plain yogurt flavor will always come through pretty strong. I love it, but it might be disappointing for some people. read more

This yogurt shop makes me jump with mochi-ball induced excitement. As a San Diego resident for the majority of my existence, I was concerned with the lack of froyo in Boston-the city I'll call home for most of the next four years. When I heard about BerryLine (through ChaCha), I went to check it out ASAP. It was a summer weekday night around 10, and there was a line out the tiny door. BerrryLine looks very odd from the outside, with brightly painted fruits on a yellow background that invokes thoughts of hippie mysticisms. The relatively unassuming interior is small and lacks seating area. It took about 10-15 minutes to get to the front of the line. The cranberry flavor they offered that day was rather bland tasting, so I went with original yogurt with strawberry, mango, and of course, mochi (which is hidden in a cabinet.. for freshness??)! It is accepted that attending MIT or Harvard will set you up for life. In this case, BerryLine, started by MIT/Harvard post-docs, shows that these schools' students can create amazing frozen yogurt as well. BerryLine's froyo has a amazingly creamy texture without any hints of iciness or lurking off-flavors. It reminds me of Red Mango's yogurt, except less sweet and simply better in some unexplainable sense. The best way to explain BerryLine's froyo is that after having a small serving, I wanted to go back and eat a lot more. On another positive note, BerryLine is the first froyo shop I've been to that uses compostable serving cups! This is commendable, considering the added costs of purchasing such cups and the reasonable-when compared with other froyo shops-price of the product. Overall, BerryLine kicks ass and could whoop most of SoCal's frozen yogurt chains into icy, tarty shards. WIth a larger, more central location, it has the potential to become even better than it already is. read more

BerryLine is amazing. I've never had frozen yogurt that tastes like this If you're expecting something that tastes almost exactly like normal ice cream, you'll be disappointed, but if you come in with an open mind, you'll love it. It's a bit less sweet than other ice cream; it reminds me a little of cheesecake or something along those lines. It turns out that, for me, that taste is perfect in almost every situation. Somehow, BerryLine frozen yogurt has no fat. That means I can go there whenever I want and not feel guilty. The frozen yogurt has 25 calories per cup, and there are five cups in a small (not sure medium/large). 125 calories and 0 fat is pretty great for something that I like more than almost any ice cream I've had. It is a tad pricey (I think $3.25 for a small with one topping), but it's not outrageous, and I'm willing to pay a little more if it makes the ice cream healthier and the atmosphere more pleasant (more on that later). I always get the original with mochi topping. I got peanut butter once, which was okay, but not as good as original. When they have flavored mochi, I usually get that instead of regular mochi. I've had strawberry mochi (the best), peach mochi (okay), pineapple mochi (really good), and french vanilla mochi (pretty good). As a bonus, the place is really fun to go to, and the atmosphere is really nice. It feels very "small business-y". The outside walls have paintings of ice cream and toppings with faces, the inside has employee-made art for sale on the walls, and the employees interact with customers like real people. Much more enjoyable than Dairy Queen or something of the sort. read more

Frozen Greek Yogurt is the best way I can describe this taste-bud tantalizing summer treat. I went with the original flavor and didn't regret it. My boyfriend got Nutella flavor. The toppings are the best and great selection between fresh fruit and candies (and even cereal). If you get the banana, make sure it is not too green though. Suggestions: Do NOT go around 9pm (they are open to midnight most nights). Line is out the door (really far), but to give the employees the benefit of the doubt, it moves pretty fast. Make sure you don't try everything all at once - get one or two (max) toppings at a time. Enjoy the FroYo. read more

Ohhhh, Berryline. What can I say about you? This place is NOT a on-the-way-to-somewhere-else place. This place is a DESTINATION. It is as good as it gets here. It's a little hard to describe the yogurt itself; it has a bit of a tang and usually surprises people who have never had tangy froyo before, but it is absolutely delicious. THey usually have original, and a couple of rotating flavors which change quite often, and a wide selection of fruit and dry toppings. I have already filled up my first Berryline 'buy 10 get 1 free' cards in a couple of weeks. I can't avoid it. If I'm near one I must go, hell, even if I'm not near one. Berryline should pay me. I definitely advertise this place enough. The only downside is that it can be quite pricey, usually what I get will come up to around $5. It never deters me, though. read more

I was really excited when I learned about Berryline; especially after reading the recent yelp reviews. So, while on a study break, I decided to venture over to 1 Arrow for a pick-me-up. I've been to a few of these new, natural style, yogurt places and I really like the ones I've tried in Los Angeles and the SF Bay Area. So why just three stars?... 1 Star deduction for the taste of the original flavored yogurt. Since I've tried a few of these natural places, I expected a more intense and pure yogurt flavor. 1 Star deduction for getting my order wrong. I ordered a small original with two toppings - strawberries and kiwi. Instead I got Raspberries and kiwi. I didn't say anything because it looked like a good combination, and it was, but that's not what I asked for. On the plus side - the pace was clean and the people were cool. More than happy to offer a free sample. I'm sure i'll be back, but I expected more. read more

It is good though - better with fruit :) And I stick to the original, the flavors are a little strange b/c the yogurt is tart and the fruit adds it's own flavor to the mix. Finally ... it is hard to find real frozen yogurt. Most are mixed with real creamy ice cream which is fine but if you know this taste already, other so called "frozen yogurt" does not taste any yogurt but plane ice cream. Anywhoo.. I tried Grapefruit and it was delicious with a bit of bitterness. My friend had original one but it was a bit too sweet to me. I hope more of this kind of store opens in Boston.. read more
