A cute little cafe with not much seating that focuses on matcha and hojicha drinks and ice cream. I like that the matcha gelato comes in different strengths. Level 4 was definitely strong and earthy. My favorite was the hojicha soft serve. The hojicha latte and matcha parfait with warabimochi were also quite good and not too sweet. It is pricey here but the serving sizes are pretty generous for the parfait/soft serves.

I saw a lot of people outside this shop so decided to give it a try. Seems pretty standard in terms of matcha stores, but the difference here is you can choose the strength of matcha you want. I didn't order the ice cream, but was decently pleased with my drink and the quality of the matcha. Would come back to try out some of their ice cream.

Finally got around to trying out this spot. Inside, it's pretty small and not really ideal spend time in there. We ordered from the kiosk and didn't realize we could sample the levels before ordering. I got a 3 scoop gelato and a parfait and the total was pretty pricey for just 2 items. The matcha levels really did surprise me. The level 5 was super strong and bitter. Very grassy tasting. And even the level 3 was also really matcha forward as a warning to those who aren't used to matcha bitterness. Parfait was good and generous with the matcha soft serve. Overall a great addition to the area!

Mizu Matcha was a quick stop for dessert, and while the staff seemed a bit aloof, the service itself was reasonably fast. There is seating both indoors and in a small outdoor area, which is nice if you want to linger for a bit. I know matcha is the star of the show here, but I opted for the black sesame gelato and it was fantastic. Rich and flavorful without being overly sweet, it struck the perfect balance and made for a great dessert.

I didn't necessarily have high expectations for this place, but I was really let down. Walking into the matcha spot, it's very bright and clean. There's a kiosk that you can order at but because it's my first time, I wanted to try their gelato before buying. For one scoop and a cone, it was nearly $10. The gelato scoop was also tiny and couldn't even be seen under the cone (see photo). They didn't notify me that a cone was also an additional charge. The gelato itself was a good flavor but was very very thick--not quite like real gelato. Overall, I was disappointed and wouldn't recommend this spot for their gelato. (Maybe their drinks are better?)

Brand new matcha spot on Newbury Street! I came here with my girlfriend over the weekend to try it out and it was very busy. There was a line going outside and inside was super packed. It took us a while to get inside but once we did, we used the tablet to put our order in. Some people were ordering at the counter so that helped get people in and out. It took about 5 minutes to get our orders since there were several people in front of us. I got a matcha latte with strawberry and it tasted great! Though I wish it was mixed better but I guess that's something I could have done once I got the drink. I'll definitely come back to try their blended drinks and their ice cream. My only problem with this place is how busy it was. Of course that comes with being so new but I feel like they could have removed the seating area to make this more of an in and out type of place. There were just way too many people here at the time but hopefully that slows down in the next couple of months. Regardless, I highly recommend trying Mizu Matcha out! It's worth the wait!

Black sesame, Taro, Matcha Level 3

Really strong flavors which I loved. Had ice cream and tried some levels of matcha. It seems like the general consensus is that level 3 is a perfect subtle sweetness and level 4 is good if you like a bit more bitterness. Black sesame also is good, and taro was flavorful but a bit too sweet in comparison. Would definitely come again! Kinda pricey since it's on Newbury though.

I saw Mizu Matcha go viral on social media (specifically TikTok) so I decided to check it out before meeting a friend for dinner. It was slammed Monday afternoon so staff members were advising customers to use the self-serve kiosk ordering machine (mind you there's only one machine) and they were missing some menu options despite not having been sold out of the swirl matcha soft serve which was what I came for but settled for the double gelato scooping and honestly it was super disappointing, a little under $10 for skimpy scoops. Save your money, I'll be sticking to Kyo Matcha in Brookline.

My partner and I got a matcha chocolate latte and double gelato (hojicha and level 3 matcha) - TASTE: 4/5 - we tried the level 2 (sweeter) and level 3 (hit the spot) before committing. Didn't taste the chocolate in my drink, but the matcha was still on point, along w the hojicha ice cream PRICE: 3/5 - total came to $18, uf! SERVING SIZE: 4/5 - satisfied us for a sweet treat, but heads up that the ice cream scoops are small SERVICE: 4/5 - walked in at 2pm on a Sunday, and it was busy as expected. Skipped the self-service kiosk line, ordered at the register, and it was ready in 10min ATMOSPHERE: 4/5 - tight space, w maybe 5 seats, and minimal decor PARKING: 4/5 - got a metered street spot on Columbus Ave and walked over

A new matcha gelateria on Newbury Street that's bustling with people. I came here with a friend on a weekday afternoon and the place was full of people eating delicious treats. We didn't have to wait long to order and we got double scoops of taro & black sesame and hojicha & matcha level 3. I'm not super into matcha, so my favorites were the hojicha and black sesame. Each scoop is carefully weighted out so you know you're getting exactly what you paid for. There's 5 levels of matcha from bitter to sweeter. My friend liked the level 3 matcha but after eating the other flavors it was more bitter than the first bite. They have soft serve and drinks as well which I will definitely have to come back to try. Overall, a nice spot to check out while shopping on Newbury Street.

Matcha hojicha soft serve, matcha gelato (level 3)

The line for Mizu Matcha went out the door, even in January when it was pretty chilly outside. Though you could order with a kiosk, we ordered with the cashier, who seemed to be pretty busy fielding questions about orders and scooping samples for people who wanted to prove that they could handle the strongest level of matcha gelato lol! We got a single scoop of the Level 3 matcha gelato, which was a great level of not-too-sweet, not-too-grassy or chalky. The gelato itself was smooth and creamy, though the scoop was pretty small for the price (but it is also Newbury Street, so expected). We also ordered a soft serve swirl of the hojicha and matcha flavors. I would stick with the gelato next time because the soft serve was not too sweet and quite creamy, but the tea flavor was just not as present as I wanted it to be.

Stopped by Mizu Matcha after walking around Newbury. They offer 5 levels of matcha gelato, and the highest level had an appealing deep green color so I had to get it. I expected it to be bitter, but it honestly wasn't. It had a rich, earthy depth and was extremely creamy with a subtle sweetness. I balanced it out with a scoop of hojicha gelato, which was definitely on the sweeter side but still had that roasted flavor. The combination was perfect, but $9 for 2 small scoops is a little steep.

I heard about how this place had matcha ice cream with different levels of intensity, so I gave it a try. They offer free samples upon request, so we tried a couple including their other flavors. The ice cream was not too sweet, and very flavorful. I liked the hojicha flavor more than any of the matcha's, so I got that one. Service was alright. No one said hi or welcomed us when we walked in. The space was bright and clean. I would give this place a 3.8/5 if I could.

My previous favorite was Amorino, but I think this place is a step above. The texture of the ice cream was superb--exquisitely smooth and creamy, yet not as sticky as Amorino. Coconut: Coconut ice cream in the U.S. is always legendary, but this was the pinnacle of the legendary. The aroma of coconut and milk was the richest I've ever tasted, and it felt very natural, with just the right amount of sweetness. Naked Yogurt: Similar in design to Amorino's Yogurt & 0% Fat Yogurt, both were pure, rich, and unsweetened yogurt, but this one had a more intense milky flavor. Espresso Mascarpone: The signature flavor. The bittersweet aroma of espresso was distinct yet mellow, but the presence of mascarpone cheese is limited. Very refreshing. Other flavors: Pistachio had a rich pistachio flavor and was a safe choice; Tiramisu and Dulce de Leche were both a bit too sweet. From this perspective, Amorino seems to offer a more well-rounded experience, but I still prefer the surprising quality of this place. The sorbets were all decorated with fruit, making them especially beautiful. If you try too many samples, the staff might get a little annoyed. I have yet to find any that are significantly better than ordinary Haagen Daz from a supermarket. In fact, most ice cream parlour ice creams aren't even as good, while costing orders of magnitude more than supermarket H-D! Toscanini's is close to equal to H-D in my book...and mainly for the fact that they offer some truly unusual and original flavors: we had the Mango Sticky Rice, Burnt Caramel, and Kulfi. My friend who enjoyed the first one the most, quickly tired of the second, and the third was my favorite by far, mainly because I love cardamom and saffron so much. I was somewhat conflicted with the Burnt Caramel...first taste was delightful, but halfway through the novelty faded away for the most part. We both appreciated that the ice cream was not hyper-sweet like JP Licks, though. HOWEVER, the extreme creaminess, density, and dry mouth-feel of H-D was just not there, as usual. I'd describe the texture of Toscanini's ice cream to be fairly ordinary, like a typical soft/smooth gelato texture. Not bad, but not anything I would really write home about. YMMV of course. Otherwise, service was good and the place is clean and pleasantly modern inside, with 3 nice new steel benches to sit at outside. The benches are curiously turned AWAY from the street, I suppose to foster more of a "communal" vibe and people-watching opportunities. I've walked by during peak hours and seen it quite full, so this place clearly is still quite popular. At $8.25 for 3 scoops (albeit fairly generous sized scoops) of oh, 8 out of 10 ice cream, I don't see myself ever becoming a regular here despite the undeniably interesting/unique flavors, unless I came mainly for the people-watching opps on a nice weather day.
