Mizu Matcha is a must-go for matcha lovers! It's very similar to Matcha Cafe Maiko BUT they offer different strength levels of matcha for their ice creams. They have 5 strengths, with level 1 being the sweetest & level 5 being the strongest + most bitter. I believe the strengths only apply for their matcha gelato. I liked that the have other options to choose from if you're not feeling gelato or ice cream! They have matcha lattes, coffee, Hojicha, black sesame, and floats! Today was our first time visiting & we went with the Strawberry Matcha Frappe and the Matcha Warobi Mochi Parfait. I ordered ahead of time, through ChowBus for pickup & it was ready by the time we arrived! The strawberry matcha frappe was more-so just a slushy. We were expecting it to be more creamy, rather than ice w/ a hint of matcha with strawberry jam. I know the drink looks too green to just have a "hint of matcha" but that's really all it tasted like. So, this was just all right. Likely won't get this one again but will try their iced latte version next time. Now, the Matcha Warobi Mochi Parfait is what I personally got & I loved it! It was A LOT of ice cream, OMG. This one came with sesame mochi, matcha jelly, red bean, & rice crispies. Perfect strength and bitterness for the ice cream & I think without the toppings, it would've been super hard for me to finish this LOL. Not because the ice cream wasn't good (it was exquisite!), but it was just a lot more ice cream than I expected & the toppings kept it interesting. Would I come back again? Likely. Would I get the same order? Probably not. Loved the parfait! It was too much for me to finish, though I did end up finishing it hehe. Will opt to try a scoop of gelato next time. Walking by never tried this spot before but did see it on socials. I like the concept, it's like Maiko but more options. Now i will be back to try their gelato matcha (and i believe they had an ube flavor too). 5 levels of potency for the matcha. Now the matcha warobi parfait was bomb. Lots of layers, toasted sesame mochi. It was enjoyable. My matcha strawberry frappe, now don't get me wrong maybe it's the style of frappe they do but i was expecting more creamy foamy style drink. It was very watery ice slushy style, which took away most of the matcha flavor. Strawberry sauce on the bottom wasn't overly sweet so that's good! For a new store the place looked worn down inside. Seating area is not comfortable or lack of. Had the sesame ice cream $8.00 for a tiny scoop! Maybe that's why they like call it a gelato!? Finally got around to trying out this spot. Inside, it's pretty small and not really ideal spend time in there. There is seating both indoors and in a small outdoor area, which is nice if you want to linger for a bit. I didn't necessarily have high expectations for this place, but I was really let down. Walking into the matcha spot, it's very bright and clean. There's a kiosk that you can order at but because it's my first time, I wanted to try their gelato before buying. For one scoop and a cone, it was nearly $10. The gelato scoop was also tiny and couldn't even be seen under the cone (see photo). They didn't notify me that a cone was also an additional charge. Brand new matcha spot on Newbury Street! I came here with my girlfriend over the weekend to try it out and it was very busy. There was a line going outside and inside was super packed. It took us a while to get inside but once we did, we used the tablet to put our order in. Some people were ordering at the counter so that helped get people in and out. It took about 5 minutes to get our orders since there were several people in front of us. I got a matcha latte with strawberry and it tasted great! Though I wish it was mixed better but I guess that's something I could have done once I got the drink. I'll definitely come back to try their blended drinks and their ice cream. My only problem with this place is how busy it was. Of course that comes with being so new but I feel like they could have removed the seating area to make this more of an in and out type of place. It seems like the general consensus is that level 3 is a perfect subtle sweetness and level 4 is good if you like a bit more bitterness. I've previously tried level-5-matcha gelatos from Nino九十葉 and Azabuya麻布屋, and I personally think this one was somewhere in between, but closer to the former, and definitely worth trying. Hojicha Gelato: Compared to matcha, the hojicha焙じ茶 flavor surprised me even more. It perfectly replicated the flavor of hojicha, like drinking a cup of ice-creamalized hojicha: the roasting gives it an aroma close to malt, bright yet soothing, rich yet expansive, with a comforting warmth, and the slight bitterness was just right. The line for Mizu Matcha went out the door, even in January when it was pretty chilly outside. Though you could order with a kiosk, we ordered with the cashier, who seemed to be pretty busy fielding questions about orders and scooping samples for people who wanted to prove that they could handle the strongest level of matcha gelato lol! I was lucky enough to visit amish Matcha twice within a week, so you know this place is good! I visited both times in the evening and the store was very busy both times, with all seats taken. They have a counter and a touchscreen to order and each order takes a couple minutes - the service is super efficient here! I tried their matcha soft serve and strawberry matcha latte, both which are absolutely delicious. I really appreciate the quality of ingredients here, as it doesn't feel like the typical sweetened matcha that you get at other coffee shops. The ice cream in particular was the perfect balance of sweetness and earthiness to me. My one gripe with this place (and frankly most other similar places in the area) is the price. You really can't find anything for under $6 here, which is a bit excessive, but everything is tasty and portions are relatively large at least. read more

Of all the matcha places in Boston, I think this one takes the cake for best tea and Asian flavored ice cream/gelato. First of all, they actually have ice cream/gelato, and not just soft serve. What's really cool is they offer five different levels of matcha "intensity" for the gelato, so you can choose exactly how strong you want it, from mild to really bold. They also have other flavors like hojicha, vanilla, and black sesame if you want a break from the green tea. The shop itself is on the smaller side. You can order from a self-service kiosk or at the counter, where they sometimes let you taste the gelato first. The prices are a bit high, but that's pretty expected for a specialty shop on Newbury Street. We decided to try a scoop of the Matcha level 2, Matcha level 4, and the black sesame. The matcha level 4 had a strong, pronounced flavor, we actually thought it tasted stronger than the level 5, which is supposed to be the most intense. The scoops are a little smaller than you might expect, but the gelato is tasty and has good, clear flavor. I tried this place for the first time the beginning of the year, starting with their soft serve matcha latte and it wasn't anything special. I decided to try again today by getting their matcha cheese cream and it was a disappointment again. It was so watered down and the foam didn't even taste like cheese. What's worst was an hour later, it made my stomach hurt so bad and I'm not normally the lactose intolerant either. My stomach was doing cartwheels and I still feel like I need to throw up as I'm writing this.
