The service can be pretty slow at times but the people were nice and caring.For example, it took at least 15 minutes or more to be called up for the appointment. But while it took time , the people were nice about it. It's also a pretty safe environment. Not the best but not the worst. read more

My experience with Berry Children's Dental in Bowie, MD has been mixed. Some of the staff are really kind and pleasant, which I appreciate. However, the front desk and management could really improve their communication and customer service. It's often hard to get someone on the phone, and I had an issue where I was told I didn't reach out about my appointment when I actually did. I had a very disappointing experience with Berry Children's Dental of Bowie due to poor management and lack of communication. I scheduled my child's appointment back in October for a December 19th visit at 8:30 a.m. The appointment was confirmed multiple times through their automated text system, and I replied to confirm as requested. Then, just two days before the appointment and after business hours, I received a text stating they do not accept Kaiser insurance and that I needed to upload new insurance information by the next day or my appointment would be deleted. This office was listed as a provider on my insurance company's recommended provider list, which is why I selected them months ago. This issue should have been identified when the appointment was scheduled, not after nearly three months of waiting. When I responded immediately, I received only an automated after-hours reply. The next day, the only follow-up was a brief message saying they "never intended to cause inconvenience." There was no real explanation or solution offered. I later received a phone call that disconnected mid-conversation. I called back multiple times and was told someone would answer, but no one did. Shortly after that, I received a text stating that my appointment had been canceled. There was no proper phone call and no attempt to resolve the issue. Canceling a pediatric appointment two days before after months of waiting due to failure to verify insurance is unacceptable. Parents plan around work, school, and childcare. As someone who intentionally wanted to support a Black-owned business, this experience was especially disappointing. I didn't even get a chance to be seen by the dentist because my appointment was rescheduled twice in a row within a day of the appointment. The first time the appointment was in the middle of the week in early July and the person said the dentist wasn't in all week. Okay but today is Wednesday so why didn't you call on Monday when you found out? Then they rescheduled me for August. I filled out the paperwork then they call saying they had to reschedule me AGAIN the day before the appointment for an emergency. I understand emergencies happen but this was just too much. They sent me a bill a year after service, come to find out they NEVER submitted the insurance claim. And the bill had no information on it. I then find out from two other families that the same has happened to them. Customer service at front desk is horrible. They make the appointment and then reschedule or cancel a day or so before. You don't know whether to walk in or wait for the call to come inside after avoiding you're there. However, when you walk in there's an issue because they didn't call. My family had a TERRIBLE experience here. It started with rude front desk staff. We were never informed that only 1 parent could attend the first dental appointment (which would have been nice to know before hand). Then the hygienist felt the need to tell me that "dad should have come back with my daughter" because it was more difficult to complete with me being pregnant. She repeatedly told my 1 year old to "be patient" during the cleaning which I felt was not appropriate. They told us my daughter had a tongue tie and needed to have it resolved before she turned 2, which was in 2 months. We scheduled and arrived for the appointment where my husband was informed that my 1 year old had to go back for the procedure alone. This was never shared with us because we would have never agreed to go forward with the procedure at this office. Needless to say, we left and will not be returning to this practice. Now we are dealing with them trying to charge us $50 for a cancelled appointment fee due to their failure to communicate effectively. If you can find somewhere else to go, please do! read more

UPDATE: I'm adding 3 more stars thanks to Antoinette (very nice and super helpful). Apparently there are a lot of new front office staff members, I'm assuming the others were recently let go due to some of the issues I previously had. I still decided to switch dentists because of the distance but during the process of me trying to get my kid's records, the phone was always answered and I was not put on hold for an insane amount of time. I explained that I needed to get the xrays in time for the new appointment and Antoinette made sure that I did. Thank you! Tiana was also very helpful and polite as well as I explained the issues I have had. The dentists are okay but the staff is HORRIBLE!They are not rude but I can never get through on the phone. It took me a week to get through and cancel an appointment. Either the phones are always busy or the message says they're at lunch even though it isn't lunch hours OR they keep you on hold and never pick up, which was the case today. I was on hold for 28 minutes before I finally hung up. I couldn't even make another appointment. Berry Dental, you have lost my three kids as patients and I will NEVER recommend! read more

Just had a terrible experience with my daughter being seen here. The staff literally harassed me about my daughter not wearing a mask to get her teeth x-rayed. I literally had to tell them, you can't get a thorough x-ray if she is wearing a mask (why don't you all know this). Furthermore, when we leaving, there were several other children in the waiting room without masks on (which I understand, COVID rules are loosening and the kids are there to get their teeth cleaned). The staff supervisor was approaching parents and charging them $.50 to give them a mask for the kids to put on. Luckily, we did have ours, but it's ridiculous. And yes....as others have stated dentists and hygienist are great, but the staff....RUDE! read more

My son was there today (4/5/2022) for an appointment for some fillings, sealants and extraction.  He has had treatment before at your practice with no issues, (with a female dentist) but today was not the case.   Being a dental professional myself, I totally understand that children can be quite nervous when it comes to dental procedures but I would like to provide a few observations about his care today: The male dentist did not make it a point to make my sure my child was comfortable.  He did not explain anything he was about to do to my child,  just "open up wide."  I can understand this type of bedside manner with an adult who maybe used to dental procedures but with my experience with children in the dental field, its important to let them know what you are doing. Also he barely placed the topical anesthesia before trying to inject my child.  Even for adults you usually give it topical a little time before injection.  This why is was curious as to why the dental assistant did not begin to place the topical anesthesia after his X-ray before the dentist came in to give it time to work. After my child panicked, I asked the dentist could anything be done and I was aware that sealants did not take need anesthesia, he then attempted to put an large isolation device in my child mouth, he referred to as his "tooth pillow", again not really explaining what he was doing and while the nitrous was still on my child's nose, gagging him.  When I ask was there anything smaller he could use for observation, he didn't really respond nor did he even make an attempt to try to find anything. It already enough that we have to wait so long for appointments at your practice but then to get there and not get the basic chairside manner that is expected is frustrating and insulting.  Also as I waited pass my appointment to be seen, you could hear the employees talking loudly in the back about things that had nothing to do with dentistry.  If they were not so loud I would not have known what they were talking about.  That is a bit unprofessional.   I will say the front desk were very nice and worked swiftly to get my refund and the paperwork that I needed. Although I appreciate the work your practice has done for my child in the past, after today I have requested my child's dental records and will be finding a new dentist for him, and I don't see myself referring anyone to your practice again. read more

Each of the members of the staff were perfect at their jobs. The front desk operators were patient and efficient. The hygienist and doctor were VERY gentle and obviously experienced with children. The setup they have is great for kids and the facilities were very clean. Paw Patrol was on the TV (which was probably more effective than nitrous oxide). They were busy but wait times were minimal. It was my son's very first dental visit, but their "bedside manner" encouraged behavior that made him take the exam and fluoride treatment better than some adults. He's 3, by the way. I was referred to Dr. Berry by a dental surgeon a few years ago. I have a son with autism and normally if he needed anything beyond cleaning, it required a hospital visit- but not with Dr. Berry. She used and continues to use state-of-the-art tools/methods for my special needs son. She has been a blessing and a great worry off of my shoulders. My son started going to Dr. Berry when he was 8 or 9 years old, he is 16 now. I highly recommend Berry Dental. The staff has been great and no one has been rude to me or my family to date. I also have not encountered an issue with billing. I would recommend that if a patient is waiting more than 15 minutes to have the staff provide an update. I have called a few times and did not get a call-back, however, it is a minor thing. My son is comfortable with Dr. Berry and the other dentist at the Bowie, MD location. I showed up 22 mins before my sons appointment time because it was his first time in and I knew there would be paperwork. Almost a hour after my arrival time and 35 mins after my appointment time, my son was seen. After talking to a few of the employees, they explained to me that Monday's and Wednesday's are usually busy and it is best to schedule early appointments due to the fact that it is a children's dental office and sometimes uncooperative patients who are seen prior to your scheduled appointment can push back times for the rest of the day. I understood how that can be a constant problem and thought to myself why not schedule fewer patients per day or give 10-15 mins gaps between appointment times as consideration for clients. 45mins- 1 hour worth of time on top of the already carved out time for the appointment on a weekday is a huge sacrifice for me personally. Also, no one was updating me during the wait, no "just a few more minutes" or a courteous "we are running behind today". A few minutes after I approached the front desk for an update, we were taken back to be seen and from there everything was on point! The hygienist and dentist we're good and brought their rating up from a 1 to a 3. If there wasn't a long wait it would have been a 4-star rating. We have been coming to Berry's Children Dentistry for close to 6 years. I highly recommend Dr. Jordan as she attentive, thorough, and an angel with children. It is in our file to only see Dr. Jordan, however, the office somehow manages to schedule us incorrectly from time to time. I recommend calling to confirm that Dr. Jordan will be there for your scheduled appointment a few days prior. If you do not schedule a first thing in the morning appointment, your wait time will be prolonged as they often run an average of 30 minutes behind. This office has some rude staff, and that`s the first impression of the office. I don't know if they are not appropriately trained or if they just don't care. The fact that it seems to be something they have been able to do for some time based on previous reviews says a lot about management. Parents, there are so many dental locations you can take your children to, and you wouldn't have to worry about this type of treatment and receive better service not only for your babies but also for yourself as well. I HATE to do this. Our children had been going to Berry's since our oldest was 4, she's now 17. We've been clients of them since they were in Largo. But since they've been in Bowie I have had serious unprofessional service. Okay I'll just say it, the service has been bad. For starters, I've learned to have to WAIT when we come here. And not for a few minutes, I'm talking 30 minutes. It doesn't matter if I get there 20 minutes early or on-time, still 30 minutes. Unless maybe you get the very first appointment of the day or the first appointment after lunch. But even though we've been the first in the morning, we've still had to 10-15 minutes after our appointment time to start. But that's just the top of the iceberg. I've shown up to my appointments and they've told me that they don't have me on schedule (this has happened to me twice). Even though I've shown them THEIR text message that they sent me to conform both times, they still didn't honor it and I had to make another appointment, pack my kids up and leave. This is after I've closed my business early for the day and taken and picked them up early from school. I was still trying to give them the benefit of the doubt because it's black-owned and I love the owner and her sister, they seem to be great people. So I brushed off the bad service and kept coming. It was this last incident that made me realize that it was time for us to depart ways and find another pediatric dentist. I took our daughter in to have a crown put on one of her teeth. She has had several crowns in her lifetime so she's an expert when it comes to the process. When we got home and the anesthesia had worn off, she immediately started saying that it felt weird and she had a bad taste in her mouth (this has never happened before and this had been her dentist office since she was 2). I told her to tell me if it kept bothering her. Well 2 weeks later the crown fell out and she couldn't find it. I called the office to make an appointment to get it fixed and they couldn't fit her in for) WEEKS!!! I made the appointment. When we finally got to the appointment, they asked me for the crown and I said we can't find it. The front desk staff (including the office manager) told me that if we didn't have the crown we would have to pay for the crown all over again because our insurance wouldn't cover the same tooth twice. Well duh! I drove home in an extreme hurry to ransack my house for the crown because I couldn't fathom paying $300 for something out of pocket that our insurance had JUST paid for. Needless to say I couldn't find it. I drove back to the office helpless and told them I couldn't find it. They said sorry they were sorry and that there was nothing they could do if I couldn't find it except to charge me again for the crown. I was extremely frustrated and borderline angry. Our daughter's tooth was getting worse because of their mishap. It had already taken almost 3 months to get the original appointment for the crown because of how busy they are. They have waaaay too many patients and can't accommodate the ones they have for appointments in a timely fashion. It's normal to be on a waiting list here for months before getting an appointment. The games in the waiting area rarely work anymore (probably because of the high traffic of children). I hope they get it together. They can't keep this kind of service up for too much longer and expect to continue to have longevity. As of now, this is a money machine. read more

My children's appointment was scheduled for today but was canceled when I got there because apparently my 14 and 18 year old sons can't be accepted due to their ages. How is it possible that they were able to take my insurance and information and the date of births of my children and making me wait 3 months when I first initially made the appointment only to cancel it the day of when I arrived with my kids because they said they only take babies or kids under 12 years old. I would give this place zero stars if I could. AWFUL!!!! Do not waste your time and money. My daughter got her braces a year ago. Since then, she has only had a handful of appointments. They constantly cancel, then make us wait two month for the next appointment, even though they were the ones who cancelled. When she actually gets an appointment, no one interacts with her. They talk trash about each other while tightening her braces. There is not noticeable change to her teeth. I wish I could get my money back and go somewhere else. They are TERRIBLE!!!!! If I could give them 0 stars I would! My mom brought my brother and sister for there annual. The insurance changed to Health Partners which is under Cigna but they couldn't "verify" the insurance so they refused the care of my siblings. My mom even called the insurance company pretending she was a provider and they said they were both covered. My mom has been a loyal customer to them. No outstanding bills, at every appointment and on time. So I was surprised they didn't want to help her. I find it very odd how they couldn't verify the insurance but my mom could.. My mom asked for my siblings records since they seemed to be incompetent. Then proceeded to say it takes 7-10 days to get records. Not in the medical field but it shouldn't take up to 2 weeks to get records. That's ridiculous. What's so sad about this, no manager or supervisor came to speak to my mom. Only the receptionist. I've been taking my children to Berry's for years. Dentists and hygienists are always super nice and helpful. They have switched out some front office staff in recent years which has helped eliminate confusion. I wish there were more appointments available but otherwise I have no complaints about the office at all! Wait times are long and ortho are done by dental assistants...If there are ortho problems - they are not resolved until your next ortho appointment, therefore prolonging your treatment. My son had his braces on for 5 years and treatment still wasn't complete, I just had them removed at took him to Dr. Harmon. I feel bad that I waited so long in having them removed and starting his treatment over, a waste of time and thousands of dollars. read more
