The front desk staff were extremely responsive regarding our appointment, sending pre appointment paperwork and answering the many questions that I asked prior to our appointment. They have new patient specials which was extremely helpful and affordable. I love the set up of the office, as it offers the children the ability to lay down and watch tv. This place is money hungry. All they worry about is the money there is no sense of care here for children. They over book and would have you sitting for hours. My children had their teeth cleaned and one week later they made an appointment for my children to come back the next week to do the same cleaning without me even knowing of it. They take all this insurance money and don't even give the kid the free toothbrush kit. I won't be taking my kids back there. And to put the icing on the cake the messed up my baby teeth. read more

What I love: - the televisions on the ceiling during the appointment - the STAFF ARE SUPER FRIENDLY - the staff make the children feel comfortable; my staff member explained to my 3 year old what she was going to do and made it fun - I love to see the amount of African American women on staff - scheduling and follow up communications - the decor was nice: my daughter loved the glowing pink teeth The wait area was nice but could use more toys other than connect 4 and books. The huge con was the appointment starting on time. My daughter didn't get seen until 40 mins after her scheduled time. When I arrived and seen 4 families waiting, I knew it was a "behind day". I have been bringing my daughter to Bright Starr for the past four years. Initially my daughter was serviced by Dr. Thrower but after two years, she no longer attends to routine patients. Since then my daughter has seen Dr. Stella and has been doing so for the past two years. Things have gone well. Today my daughter had an appointment at 1pm, I called the office at 12:59pm to inquire about the arrival policy as it continues to change... wait in the car, wait in the lobby downstairs, or wait in the office lobby. I was told that only one other family was in the office lobby so I could come up. Took the elevator upstairs and my daughter says she needed to use the restroom so we made a pit stop. I received a call from the receptionist at Bright Starr at 1:08pm asking if we were there, I said yes we had to stop to use the restroom. I get my daughter cleaned up and walk to the office, time 1:15. The door was locked, which I have never encountered before. I knocked and waited... nothing, at 1:18pm I call. The call was answered, I gave my name and daughter's name, I was placed on hold, then the young lady takes me off hold to say "yeah unfortunately we waited 15 minutes for your daughter and that's our grace period, we have to take lunch so you will have to reschedule." So I replied, I told your receptionist that I took my daughter to the restroom when she called a few moments ago, I'm confused. The response I received, "yeah unfortunately it was past 15 minutes so you will have to reschedule". Over four years as you can imagine I have been early, I have been on-time and I have been tardy to an appointment once but I called to notify. My daughter and I have waited 10, 15, 20, and the longest wait was about 30 minutes to be seen. It's comical that this practice has no issue in you waiting to be serviced but when they wait for a child to use the restroom, they lock the door! I actually thought this dentistry practice would be my daughters long standing dental provider through out her juvenile years but after today... NO THANK YOU! This was a rescheduled appointment by the way (previous conflicting schedules), I departed work early (I'm a teacher), picked my daughter up from daycare and made it to Bright Starr's building by 12:59pm. As soon as we exit the elevator doors on the second floor "mom I have to use the restroom", receptionist calls at 1:08pm (still in the restroom)... we're coming pit stop to the restroom, 1:15pm turn the office door knob (locked) so I knock, 1:16pm I knock again, 1:18pm I call and I'm being told to reschedule because they have to take a lunch break. This practice now lacks empathy and consideration for the needs and impromptu occurrences of small children and single parent families... I can only imagine how they handle emergencies. Supporting black enterprise and professionals is definitely a priority in my book but only if they are flexible. I have been up to 30 minutes late to non black establishments due to traffic and I have still been serviced, my daughter has still been serviced. We were valued as patrons. Life will happen, this practice is not flexible. I encourage you to avoid the disappointment and frustration I have endured this afternoon. Find a dental practice that is flexible and one that values the patients it services in addition to all other attributes one would consider when choosing a medical provider. Cheers! read more

Dr. Throwers came highly recommended to me from my sister because my nieces love her office but what I experienced today was ridiculous and horrible. The front desk staff RUDE the Dr. we saw just as short and rude. The only person I give rave reviews to was the hygienist assistant who was awesome. My appt was at 2pm I follow the instructions of calling to alert we were there but NO ONE answered the phone and that continued for 15 mins. I finally go up to the office and it's 2 families ahead of me who were having the same problem. Someone rudely comes and takes one family. Someone comes and tells me we will be with you soon. At 2:40 still haven't seen the Dr and I knock on the door to inform them this is ridiculous and my 3rd yrs old can't wait any longer and all of suddden we can be seen. We continue to wait while front desk person tells another that I'm rude and upset, in which the person yells out well she should have called. This was my sons first visit no paper work was handed to me and no apology for the wait... nothing! The hygienist assistant was amazing talking my scared 3 yrs old down and cleaning his teeth but that's were the amazing things ends. The dr arrives barely interacts with my son and in 3 mins the appt is over. This is not what I was expecting at all. Nothing about his first experience at the dentist was great. I have no plans to return in 6 months for a follow up because what I experienced was horrible. Whomever owns this practice really needs to start over from scratch because the staff is horrible. Needless to say I'm looking for another Dentist ASAP. read more

I have been taking my kids to Dr. Thrower for a year now. Her staff is amazing and so friendly and it come because she herself is absolutely the best pediatric dentist in this area! My youngest son is terrified of dentist because of a previous dentist experience from another office that made him terrified of dentist now. Let me begin by saying the office is beautiful!!! Great location, ample parking, and really chic kid friendly interior. Additionally, the dental assistants are really nice and professional. Now that that is out the way, I must say I am shocked at the great reviews. I was referred to the pediatric dentist by my long time dentist for my 5 year old daughter that needed an extraction. Initial contact to this office was terrible! The receptionist is VERY RUDE!!! However, I trusted my long term dentist's judgement regarding this establishment, and decided to overlook the receptionist unprofessional. The doctor www nice enough, but not through at all!! She did not review the dental records and xrays sent via email from our previous dentist, nor did she X-ray my daughter. She supposedly did an assessment and cleaning and scheduled us for the extraction. The extraction went well. However brushing my daughter's teeth after the extraction , I noticed another abscess on my daughters upper right gum. HTH did the dentist miss this with an oral examination? I called the office back, got the same RUDE receptionist who badgered me about my credibility to identify an abscess!! I have 3 children, and I am 40 years old!! I'm clear what an abscess looks like! Additionally, I was literally just at the office a week ago, because of an abscess on my daughters gum!! After the shenanigans with the receptionist she scheduled us for another appointment. My husband took my daughter to the appointment and came back stating that the doctor could not find an abscess but felt a soft spot where she BELIEVED the abscess had resolved itself!! Again no X-ray done, nor had the documents my previous dentist sent had been reviewed. I was brushing my daughters teeth that night, and low and behold there was the abscess!! How did she now see this huge abscess!! Additionally, I noticed a cavity on her lower tooth! I called the office AGAIN!! Explained the abscess was there and a cavity!! The RUDE receptionist exuded the same unprofessional disrespectful behavior questioning my ability to "diagnose" a cavity and abscess, as opposed to just taking the damn appointment! My husband took my daughter back to the dentist, who finally did xrays!! And another oral exam and now she saw both the abscess and cavity! Had no explanation as to why she didn't see it the last 3 times!! She informed us that two teeth would need to be extracted and scheduled us an appointment!! Because of the inefficiency, the receptionist stated we would not have to pay for the extractions! But did not apologize for her rudeness or acknowledge I was correct that my daughter did in fact have a cavity and abscess. She continued to chat with my husband expressing disbelief that we had been to the office 3 times and the doctor did not catch either dental issue!! She scheduled us for yet ANOTHER appointment!! What she didn't do was prescribe an antibiotic to treat the huge abscess that was forming on my babies gum!! I called the office back, yes I got the same RUDE receptionist, who stated that she had no idea why the doctor did not give us a prescription for an antibiotic!! I asked her to have the doctor to call me to discuss. The doctor called back 2 days later!! At that point I was done! I called my previous dentist and explained the hell we had been through with this dental office. My original dentist called in an antibiotic and referred us to a different pediatric dentist. Bright Star charged us astronomical fee's for subpar service! And to make matters worst, the office took it upon itself to reschedule our missed appointment without my permission!! The following day of the second missed appointment scheduled without my permission, the same RUDE receptionist called me to inquire why I did not attend the appointment. I told her I never rescheduled the appointment and she of course was RUDE! She stated " well it says right here that you did", well ma'am I didn't!! They always do a nice job with my kids and always make sure my kids are comfortable and safe while being worked on. They accept most insurance. I have amerigroup and now i have carefirst so that is very helpful. My kids love it here and they are also open on Saturday's. If you do come on a Saturday just know that is when they are super busy and have a-lot of clients because everyone makes appointments for that day. But even though busy they always try there best to keep up with the set appointments. read more

I had a great experience with Dr. Thrower for my two children. I would be giving 5 stars if the review was just for her. Had I been reviewing the office staff, I'd be giving them 2 stars. The scheduler messed up my appointment times twice. When I got confirmation text, it was for the day i told her i CANNOT do. The following week i got confirmation text for 2 hours later than i had scheduled. I called them and they told me she has surgery in the morning so that's the earliest they can do. When I finally made it to the office for the RIGHT appointment time they had for my TWO kids (this was the first time slot they had available after the dentist's surgery she was doing), there were TWO other people in the waiting room for the SAME appointment time as mine. I know because I asked them. I ended up waiting much longer than expected. Thank goodness I brought chicken nuggets for my kids or else they would have been flipping out! I know office staff is always changing, so I'm not sure if I'll give them another try. Definitely triple check your appointment time with the scheduler. read more

My children have been going To this dentist for over 3 years . Today I arrived 10 mins late . I have waited over 40 mins to be serviced plenty of times and I say nothing because my kids are relaxed in this office . But TODAY my kid's were denied service because the office was overbooked and could not accommodate my ten minute late appointment. Be mindful I drove from waldorf, so I am pretty upset. We have been coming to Bright Starr for 4 years now and each time we are pleased. We rarely wait more than 5 minutes in the waiting room that has books, toys and television to keep the children entertained. The staff's manner with the children is excellent and my 7 year old looks forward to coming to the dentist. The location is good as well. We often go for lunch or a snack after our appointments. The Dentist is great, her staff is rude and unhelpful. There was a miscommunication with medication that had to be administered to an appointment. We were given one set of instructions by the pharmacist and yet another by the receptionist. When I tried to speak to the dentist we were only allowed to speak to the receptionist who then told me "not to have an attitude" because she was trying to help. The staff is some of the worst I have dealt with and I work in customer service as well. * Edit: I ended up speaking to the dentist about an hour after the phone call with the receptionist. Dr. Thrower was able to provide the explanation regarding the medication that we were initially looking for. However, after the experience with her staff, we still decided to go elsewhere. I've been bringing my daughter for years (5 at least), she's scheduled every 6 months for cleaning. Appointment is made before walking out the door. Times are flexible as late as 430 during the week and early Saturday appointments available too. Dr. Thrower has even referred us to a GREAT orthodontist; I don't have any complaints. The staff is AMAZING. The doctor is AMAZING. They provide great service, always feel welcomed. I haven't experienced any of the situations noted in other reviews, hopefully you get to experience for yourself. read more

I highly recommend this establishment to other parents. The staff here are always very friendly and have a smile on their faces, starting with the admins all the way up to the Dentists! Super professional! My toddler loves going to this dentist. The waiting area has a colorful small playroom, books, and a water cooler. Appointments are easy to get and the wait times while at the office are nominal, almost nonexistent. There are TVs in the ceiling to distract nervous kids while in the dentist chair. After the visit with the dentist, they get a coin to use in a vending machine for a small toy. As well as the ever popular gift bag filled with a new toothbrush, toothpaste, & [my fave] a timer to encourage brushing for a full minute. I would recommend them to parents without hesitation. Bright Starr Pediatric Dentistry deserves this 5 star rating because anytime a business exceeds my expectations, I am truly impressed. I had been searching for a dentist for my toddler for quite some time. My dentist is excellent, but realized that my son needed a dentist that could relate to him as a child and it would be an environment conducive for him. In my search, I found pediatric dentist who did not have Friday or Saturday appointments. Some that will only take toddlers between certain times and not during spring break. I couldn't believe it. So to call Bright Starr and find out they had very accommodating office hours was a great relief for this working mom. The receptionist that answered the phone was very kind, patient, and answered all of my questions. (That is always a first sign for me when I call a new place. If the receptionist doesn't have time for you, then that means the doctor won't have time for you either). So that was a great sign. On the day of his appointment, I was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful this office was. It was certainly calming and child-friendly. Everyone was super nice. Dr. Starr is excellent with children and explained everything she did. My husband and I were so impressed. Honestly, I can't say enough good things about Bright Starr Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Thrower provided excellent care to my daughter, however, good customer service ended with the doctor. It doesn't matter how skilled or nice the doctor is... if the staff is rude, disrespectful, unprofessional and unscrupulous, they will ruin your business. I will NEVER go there again!!! I work too hard to give my money to any business that can't provide good customer service and honor their word. After Dr. Thrower completed my daughter's services, I asked if we were all set and I was told yes. They helped me get my daughter to my car because she was groggy and we left. Within minutes of arriving home, one of her staff members called with an accusatory tone as if I walked out with the intent of not paying. I explained how it happened but the disrespect continued. I asked that the doctor call me back. Instead, the staff called me back trying to collect payment. I said that I would be happy to pay after I spoke with the doctor. Again, I receive a call from her staff stating that they spoke with the doctor and were calling on her behalf (and trying to collect payment)... Nope, I want to speak to the doctor. Later that evening, Dr. Thrower called to check on my daughter and as I explained what happened she was completely unaware that any of these events had taken place. She was apologetic and I agreed to stop by and make payment. I spoke with Jessica and it was clearly stated that after this payment, there would be a zero balance (which she signed), no additional payments would be required, and if anything else came up, it would be written off. Fast forward 5 months, I receive a bill for ~$900 stating that the insurance didn't pay the balance. I called and explained that my payment was to be the final payment, and now they are harassing me for additional funds. I even showed Jessica her signature where she signed stating that the account was to have a zero balance and she stated that they would continue to pursue payment. I have requested a call back from Dr. Thrower at least 3 times since December and stopped by the office and I have not heard from the doctor. read more
