The girls and I went for lunch and they introduced me to this gem. The cafe is busy, so make sure you have time to swing by. Although it was busy, they took our order pretty fast and brought it out within minutes! It's tucked away in the back of the shopping plaza and is a bit small inside but it adds to its charm. The food they offer is a variety of salads, wraps, and sandwiches. I nabbed the cobb wrap and a peanut butter fudge brownie. Let me tell you, that cobb wrap was perfection. It was packed to the brim with egg, lettuce, avocado, bacon and delicious crumbles. It even came with a small cookie on the side. I decided to eat half since it was so huge, I was filling up fast. I wanted to leave some room for the brownie and boy did it not disappoint. It was rich but not overly chocolatey either. I told my husband about it and now he's begging me to bring some home. I'm hoping that my visit to Bertha's was just on an off day... I really wanted to like it - and maybe I had high expectations but shouldn't I since Bertha's has a 4.5 star average on Yelp? I've been waiting for this new location to be open for awhile now, and I finally made it in for lunch yesterday. After studying the menu, I chose the Harvest Salad... $6 for mixed greens with candied walnuts, apples, Blue cheese, and dried cranberries - I modified and replaced the blue cheese with goat cheese and I added chicken for an extra $1. I do not recommend the Harvest Salad. It was mediocre at best. The chicken was nasty... I pushed that to the side and ate the rest although the apples had little flavor. I definitely had order envy upon seeing my friend's turkey sandwich. That is the way to go - next time I'll for sure go with a sandwich or a soup/sandwich combo. The cashier was extremely slow... I think it must've been her first day on the job. We were patient though. Hopefully she will get better with practice and the next time I visit, the process will be smoother... and I know what NOT to order now, so I'm hopeful Bertha's will live gain an additional star in my book upon my next visit. After reading the great reviews, I stopped into Bertha's for a quick breakfast. I had the roasted tomato, pesto, and egg sandwich. It came with a small side breakfast cup of fruit, honey & granola ( I think) It was delicious and served very quickly. The coffee was good too. It's a cute place with reclaimed wood tables & splashes of pink. The gentleman that helped me was very nice, knowledgeable & helpful. The pastries in the case looked yummy . Wowza. At the crack of dawn I exercise. After that I'm famished. Thank goodness for a joint like Bertha's Cafe. (Which, by the way, is dangerously located across the street from my gym.) I Yelped for something that would be open, super close and offer food at 7:35am. This adorable place is located on the far west corner of a shopping strip. After quickly ordering the Turkey Jalapeno Egg sandwich ($5.95!) and customizing it without charge I enjoyed the indoor seating area. (Outdoor seating exists and is quite quaint.) So out comes a beast of a sammie. The eggs are perfectly made for me. I love an easy over egg. (Check.) The cheese isn't out of control on this, just enough to give me tingles. (I like cheese, just not associated guilt.) A balanced amount of avocado with just a touch of jalapeno mayo. (I would eat avocado in my sleep.) Did I save half for later? Um, no. It was divine. I came during an off peak weekday. Traffic was robust even at this early time. I suspect it can be tight to find a seat. However! Sandwiches can be quickly made to go, perfect for that office bite. The food is always fresh, delicious, service is quick, and the staff always has a smile. Why had I not visited Bertha's before?!?! I have heard about this place for years, but I'm not much of a sandwich girl, so I hadn't been. What a mistake! This place is amazing. For real, I tried two sandwiches and a salad and a couple of their treats and they were all so dang good. They offer a half sandwich and salad option, which I ordered, and you can pick and sandwich and any salad. I had the Thai chicken salad (amazing, I wanted to lick the small container of dressing), and the turkey sandwich with the avocado and onion jam....this thing was so special and tasty. They even give you a little mini cookie with it! The prices were under 10$ pp, super reasonable for the portion size. Loved my visit here! Came with a close friend of mine who frequents this place as he lives nearby. But fortunately for us (4 mouths), table of 4 finished and walked out while we were waiting in the line to order! YEA! We each ordered what we wanted and sat at the table to wait with the tall number stands for each of our orders. Not long after, we got our yummy looking lunch. I ordered: 1/2 Sandwich and 1/2 Salad $8.99 - Roasted Turkey Sandwich: Oven roasted turkey with avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, mixed greens, Pesto mayo, Havarti cheese, Bacon and caramelized red onions. - Curried Chicken Salad: Curried Chicken mixed with pinenuts, dried cranberries served over mixed greens. And it was SO VERY YUMMY!!! Scrumptious! (**) My coworkers ordered: - Ham and Havarti Panini $7.65: Smoked Ham, arugula, tomatoes, Spicy Mustard and havarti cheese. - Chopped Salad $7.95: Mixed Greens, tomatoes, Blue cheese, applewood smoked bacon, bell peppers, avocado, chicken and green onions. Served with balsamic vinaigrette. Unfortunately, the noise was getting onto me... I could not hear what my coworkers were talking... I hate MOST of the restaurants are so loud, even thou in YELP business info, it says, Noise Level: Average... REALLY? I think someone needs to Re-REVIEW or change the category to: Level of Conversation... or something more to inform TRUTH about the restaurant BGM Condition! It is so annoying that it is almost impossible to find a restaurant with No BGM or LOW Volume BGM for casual dining... Although I do know at least ONE restaurant who has low volume BGM in Scottsdale, and one Italian Restaurant near Tucson with No BGM. We need MORE places like that... just like no smoking. Seriously. If you're looking for a nice little local restaurant for breakfast, then look no further! Bertha's is where it's at! I come here often for a book club meet up. They have a huge table in the back of the place which is great for a large group of people. They have a wide variety of baked goods (I recommend the cheesecake and the mini red velvet cupcakes. Yum!) but the breakfast is the main reason we go. The waffles are so delicious and very kid friendly. Very fluffy and comes topped with whipped cream, strawberries, bananas, and candied almonds. The turkey jalapeño egg sandwich has a nice balance of spice and avocado and a nice serving of turkey. But my personal favorite is the Breakfast Wrap. The environment is very laid back and cozy. The staff is always friendly and they always have a smile on their face. Tip: if you're every there in the summer, you HAVE to try the Watermelon Lemonade. I usually get the half of club or half of ham and havarti panini - both awesome, and really good bread. For the salad, I always get the goat cheese and roasted red pepper salad (love that too). I don't get cheese or mayo on my sandwiches and they were understanding of that. I got the Club sandwich and it was pretty yummy. The bacon was a bit fatty but I suppose that's really what bacon is! Although I didn't care for the chewy bits of fat that I got occasionally. The food was brought out to us relatively fast. One thing I might add is that apparently there was a special that day with the club sandwich and they didn't bother to ask if I wanted it as a special. Disappointing because the special comes with chips and a drink and is cheaper than ordering all items separately. Seating is a bit of a challenge when you are there on a weekday lunch rush. Not sure if it's the same on weekends. The tables are small and they don't move! So there are no pushing tables together for more than 2 people.
