1So, I was wrong.... I thought that Bert's would become a buffet restaurant due to the wildly popular Monday night buffet. If I read the sign right the buffet maybe cheaper at 7.49? Unfortunately it does close at 8pm. I have been a fan of this place for more than 3 decades my son pointed out. I have to say he i out of the will. Although, with my decrepit older mind, When I think tacos, I think Berts. They have the BEST beef hard tacos EVER! I got the beef tacos and cheese fries. The cheese fries were unassuming in presentation, but they were delish with nacho cheese sauce as an upgrade. Burt's is a staple in town. You are not truly a Collinsvillian if you have never ate and fell in love with this greasy, but incredibly delicious, food. It is a great location in downtown Collinsville and has cool decor and such. I love their Mexican plate, tacos, pulled pork, fried mushrooms and fried zucchini. To begin with, Belleville is a neat little town. Parking is small town street side and not really a concern. The building is kind of funky as it is home to two distinctly different restaurants. There is a hipster coffee shop in the front half of the building complete with obligatory young, tattooed, baristas and cloth pattern couches. Walking through the twenty-something angst you get to Bert's Chuckwagon. Bert's is a BBQ-Hamburger-Taco-Ice Cream joint. Te hall is large and plenty of communal seating. The walls are decorated with old-fashioned soda posters and signs. Ordering is counter side with trays handed over after your name is called. Tey have fountain Coke products. Monday has a taco buffet. Hard shell tacos, flour tortillas, and a chimichanga were the order of my day. I had a little buyer's remorse after seeing the cheeseburgers and bowl of chili. Food is served in paper boats which makes clean up easier. You bus your own table, which is no problem because the price is so inexpensive. There seems to be a "regulars" vibe. It seemed like a welcoming place and the staff were friendly. My order was accurate and prepared quickly. Nice spot for a weekday lunch. read more

Another Collinsville classic. The hubby have not been there since they moved to the new location (yes... Its been that long), so why not. We had the super beef tacos (why would you want anything else??? Okay... Maybe the Clogger.... But my arteries thanks me for passing on it). The prices can't be beat and the shells were flaky crispy so I'm sure it is probably slowly killing me (in a yummy way). I'm sure we will return to try other things on the menu. I came here with family for a birthday a while ago and ordered the fish taco special. It was a little over $1, so my expectations weren't high. Tortilla wasn't heated, which gave it a homemade feeling, not in a good way, fish was very small. Flavor was just okay, included shredded cheddar cheese I think and some kind of sauce. Soft serve pineapple ice cream sundae was good. Onion rings were strange. It was a different kind of batter and possible not cooked all the way through. I let others finish them. I only had one or two. I think I also ordered fries, which I believe I liked. I can't specifically remember them. I think people with me had burgers they liked. Prices were decent. I ordered ribs to go, since my husband likes them. I liked them fine, but my husband did not. He's more of a fan of ribs than I am. It's just an okay place. I see no reason to go back based on the food. I'd give it 2.5 stars if I could. read more

I have always loved bert's having grown up in collinsville. Now we travel to take my son there and he loves it too! Staff could not be nicer! Food is so good and the menu is large enough that everyone can find something they like. The tacos are a must! But honestly I've never had a bad item there. Read about this place on Yelp, it's better than I can describe! We would have thought it was closed on a Saturday afternoon, as the windows are all dark. We would have gone past had it not been for the sandwich board sign on the sidewalk. You walk in through a small lobby and into what looks like an old gymnasium. There were several families around the room but it was QUIET. WHY? Because the food is so good, who has time to talk? Order at the counter, take a seat and be pleasantly surprised! I got the Mexican platter and it was a beef enchilada, a taco and refried beans and rice. The corn taco shells were thin, thin, thin and crispy, not greasy at all. LOVE THEM! The flavor was excellent. The enchilada was flavorful and fresh. They offer a nice taco sauce on the side. My husband got the nachos and they were gone before I could have a taste. Next time were trying the b-b-q. And maybe some more Mexican! Now I want to go back to Collinsville, unless they want to open up in the Chicagoland area. This was so disappointing, as this was our favorite place for many years. However, after waiting for the cashier, whose service lacked eye contact or emotion, we were able to ask her what was included in the special of the day. We seemed to be bothering her while placing out order, and she turned to a passing employee to ask what was included in the special. When we began to eat the food, we soon discovered it was unappetizing. The rice was barely warm, and was hardened into small clumps. The enchiladas had a dark overpowering (mole?) sauce that caused the food to be inedible. We both ended up leaving our entire meal behind, and no staff was concerned about our dining experience. read more
