When we were first seated, the service was great. Our server was personable and made sure to tell us about all of the deals he could offer on margaritas. We got our drinks pretty quickly considering how busy it was. Unfortunately, the food took a lot longer to come out. My friend's food order came out wrong, which was a simple mistake. She let our waiter know, but she ate it anyway because she didn't want to wait any longer for food and went on with her night. My beans and rice tasted like they had been sitting under a warming light for hours though. My cheese quesadilla was ok. After we got our food, we noticed our waiter had pretty much disappeared, and when we would see him to try and get our checks, he seemed to "not see us waving to him" and went on serving other tables instead. There was a party of 6+ seated after us (a party of 2), and they got their drinks, food, boxes, and check, and were out the door before we finally got our waiter to come back to our table and give us our tickets. We were really confused about why we were ignored for so long and why it took us an extra almost 30 minutes just to get our checks and a box. read more

The atmosphere was nice. The decor was tasteful done. The service was good. I was looking forward to the meal. The meal was disappointing. The salsa tasted like it came out of a jar. The chips didn't have any salt on them. The chimichunga was good. The rice could have been much better. It was supposed to have Pico on it. But it was just a sour tasting tomato on it. Food was really good, I got the wrong thing but it was an honest mistake. Our service was really good at first but after we got our food our server disappeared or wouldn't come to our table for about 20- 30 minutes. We tried to flag him down for our check and boxes but we felt ignored after while. The table next to us which was a table of 8 (we were just 2) got seated after we did they had drinks, food etc and they got their boxes and bill before we did. I had time to kill before picking up a catering order near by and it was lunchtime. I had already experienced other restaurants in the area and was craving Mexican, so La Casa was an easy choice. The complimentary chips and salsa were good. The chips were thin, warm and crisp. However, the salsa could have used a little more spice. Recently, my go to adult beverage when dining Mexican is a, Paloma. That was a bad choice here. The Paloma here, was totally flavorless. To be honest, I couldn't even tell if there was any alcohol in it at all. Best part of my visit, was my entree. I enjoyed three soft shelled Shrimp Tacos and they were delicious. The shrimp stuffed into the tacos were prepared well and they were huge. My side of Mexican Rice was very good. Typically, I am not a fan of Mexican Rice, but theirs was soft and seasoned well. Wish all Mexican restaurants made it this well. If you're in the area and want some good Mexican, I'd say La Casa is worth a visit. read more

Hubby and I were desperate to eat out, so we finally bit the bullet and ate outside in a tent. We're not really outside eating people, but during a pandemic, you stop being persnickety! At least we weren't eating in the darn truck! Luckily, it wasn't too cold yet and the tent kept the wind at bay. It was actually pretty crowded in the tent, which surprised us. Not sure how other Yelp reviews were negative?? We come here a couple of times a month and have always had a great experience and meal. The complimentary chips and salsa are a meal within themselves. My go to are the tacos. Tonight we tried different entrees (I had Taquitos and hubby created his own combo with tacos and an enchilada). We typically get a half pitcher of margaritas ($7.99 and two servings each). Less crowded tonight than usual and it's a Saturday. There is outside seating also. We've been eating here since opening week, and have enjoyed most of our visits. But not so much on a recent weekend evening. The server seemed rather distracted, looking through the window while taking our order. The most interesting thing I could see on the asphalt was a Ford Mustang. Part of the order was forgotten, and it took me nearly five minutes to get a server's attention. It's not that the restaurant was particularly busy, but rather seemed to have something to do with the Toronto vs. New York baseball game. Sometimes, I can't answer the business-tips question, "Has TV?" because I don't know. In this case, I'm quite sure there are TVs because I have clear memories of watching the staff watch them. Maybe they're Yankee fans. Maybe the server I thought was gazing out the window was actually looking at a window reflection of the TV. Or, maybe it was just a bad, tired, wish-we-were-at-a-ballgame kind of day. I don't really know. The food was ok, the drinks weekend-full-priced and ok. But the normally fine service turned inattentive and slow. this is a great local place, food is good, that me and my friends go to often, but tonight we had the worst server ever! She was very rude to a person at our table, making fun of one of our guest for a speech impediment. I have never seen anyone be so rude! After my friend talked to the manager they did give my friend a small discount and made the waitress apologize ( if you call blaming past teenage patrons for not knowing how to treat her customers with common courtesy an apology) what should have been done was my friend should have gotten her meal for free and the price of that meal should have been taken out of that waitresses pay! read more

I used to love La Casa, it was one of my favorite places to eat Mexican in Edwardsville. Lately though, it hasn't been nearly as good. The waiters have not been friendly and the food has tasted like it's been re-heated and not fresh. The last time I went, I ordered the fajitas, and I had to ask two times before my waiter brought me the over-steamed tortillas. The prices have gone up steeply in the past year and they even charge a credit card fee if you use a credit card. It's a shame. We are going to try a different place next time we go out. read more

I'm not really sure what it is with most independent Mexican restaurants, especially the ones in Edwardsville... there are at least 3 of them within a mile's radius of each other. There's La Casa Mexicana, El Maguey and La Fonda. They all have nearly the same decor and same food taste and menu. And the music: Daddy Yankee or mariachi, anyone? But they all outweigh each other as far as atmosphere and service. La Casa is a decent place, with average food. I've had their California burrito and a couple other dishes. I'm not gonna lie, their margarita is strong! (I must have had the bottom of the barrel here...) Place is decent, just a bit different than the other two places mentioned. It's got a bar setting in one room with Mexican soccer and Univision on the TV. Worth checking out, even though its really no different than most Mexican places. read more

We just moved to the Edwardsville area from Texas and thought some Mexican food would be great so we did takeout from La Casa Mexicana. How disappointing! This restaurant does not understand what Mexican food is supposed to be because the beef and chicken fajitas we tried were flavorless and tasteless...and there wasn't a jalapeño to be found. Their idea of salsa could have easily been presented as Italian tomato sauce. Last thing, the chips were from Sam's and they didn't have charro beans which should have been a clue because the refried beans were straight from a can. If you want Mexican search elsewhere...if you want Fake Mexican this is your place. read more

My family has been eating at La Casa at least once a week since their opening. During the pandemic, we ordered out consistantly as we wanted this restaurant, which served the closest thing to Mexican food in the vicinity, to remain in business. We went for lunch today, I ordered the taco salad with chicken. The chicken was inedible -- the waiter never came to check on us during our meal. As he was bringing the bill and picking up our plates, I told him the chicken was bad and he needed to let the kitchen know so they could throw it out before anyone became ill. He said he would remove my meal from the bill, which honestly should have been done. After leaving, the person who paid the bill told me he did not remove it and the bill remained at $85.00. It will be a long time, if ever, before I set foot in La Casa again. read more

Great place! It gets pretty crowded and can be noisy. However, the food and service make up for it. The margaritas are strong which is perfect! The queso dip is similar to other Mexican restaurants. Excellent attention to detail in every aspect of the operation given the relatively nondescript location at the end of a strip mall but once you walk inside the magic happens . The interior is authentic and only becomes more absolute in its authenticity when you enjoy the impeccably prepared cuisine . Fajitas are superb..the volcanic eruption of the molcajete is PARADISE , drinks are diverse and all enjoyable . We definitely will return and hope that Griselda is our server again !!!!!!! read more

It took me a couple of years to try this place. I don't know why as I am regretting my delay now. I'm partial to my Fairmont City or Cherokee street authentic establishments where English isn't spoken. I know you're like c'mon chica get to the food. So, I got the carne asada steak. It come's with tons of veggies, tortillas, rice and beans. But the best thing. This lil suprise corn cake. That corn cake has given my mouth something to drool over and my mind something to crave for 2 weeks. It was an instant addiction. It was amazing so much that I wanted to eat a whole pan of it. If I don't get it soon, I may go loca. The steak was good and marinated. It's skirt steak so you its thin and can be pulled apart with your fingers if you want. Throw it on a tortilla and chew to your lil heart is content. It was as close to authentic as I could get in a strip mall and satisfied my needs. I may not order anything else. The salsa & chips are also of good quality so you really can't go wrong when you have that & add a Model Especial (even on a Sunday before noon) Yes as previously described the place is louder than average but that's how a Mexican restaurant should be. First time here and in the area. I ordered the veggie fajitas and my husband ordered the seafood enchiladas. If you are pescatarian this place has a lot of options. The veggie fajitas were good and a huge portion for me. My husband said his seafood was also delicious and a good portion. As far as being sensory friendly, it is for the most part. The lights are dim but comfortable and the booths separate you from other diners. The music isn't overly loud and the kitchen can sometimes be noisy but not all the time. We have been here 3-4 times since it opened in March. We are huge fans of authentic mexican food and felt that we owed this place a chance. We went on Cinco De Mayo - waited two hours to be seated... luckily the good came fast once we sat down. The food was very good as was the service. We went back in July and we were seated immediately, however, our server did not speak a word of English. I'm sorry, but if you work in a restaurant in a city whose primary language is English you need to understand it a little. We were asking some questions about different dishes and he repeatedly kept saying "ya..." "No..." when I was asking open-ended questions that a yes or no answer would not suffice. We ordered a mini pizza for my son (who is 2 and can't be bothered with mexican food ha-ha) and it arrived at our table un-sliced, we were unsuccessful at cutting it with a serrated knife used for cutting meat. We sent it back with a request for it to be sliced. He didn't understand, took it back in the kitchen... brought us a brand new steaming hot pizza, again, unsliced. We had to indicate with our hands that we wanted it sliced, almost in sign language, because now a pizza has been wasted and my son sat there watching us eat while they nuked another pizza. It was not pleasant. Though I know some limited conversational Spanish, I did not know the Spanish words for "slice" or "pizza". Ha-ha. All in all, the food was good but we really were troubled by the fact that we couldn't try anything new on the menu because we couldn't ask questions since our server did not speak more than three words of English. We had a very enjoyable dining experience at La Casa Mexicana! It had been awhile since we've had hot, fresh, and delicious tasting burritos and chimichangas. And we've driven by this place a hundred times, so figured we'd check it out! The interior decor was great and really added to the ambience and aesthetic experience. The place was hopping on a Friday, with music and people having a great time. Our kids enjoyed their meal, and my wife loved her chicken chimichanga. Walk into this restaurant and you could forget you are in Midwest USA. The food is very good considering it is in the Midwest. The outdoor patio is great for drinking margaritas on a warm summer night. The food is always hot and very tasty. Went to this location on 8/27/19. The food is bland and mediocre at best. Unfortunately, I could not eat my entire meal due to the enchilada sauce on my enchilada tasting old and expired. My friend ordered a chicken fajita burrito with the same enchilada sauce topping the burrito. She immediately got sick right after we left the restaurant and was sick for the duration of the following day. We called back and spoke to the manager the next day once my friend felt better. She made sure to reiterate multiple times to the manager that she would like a refund. The manager was considerably rude over the phone with my friend but ultimately agreed to a refund. Upon to our arrival back to the restaurant, she was given a "refund" of the burrito in meal form. She told the hostess that she did not want the meal that made her sick in the first place and she wanted a money refund. The manager came out with the same attitude he had on the phone. We ended up just leaving because the manager of this establishment wanted to argue with my friend about her getting sick. I can positively say I will never go back to this "Mexican" restaurant and will not suggest this place to anyone. read more

I'm surprised at how many Mexican restaurants there are around for an area with such a small Hispanic population (in comparison to Southern California where I'm from). So far, they have all been pretty good, but I have to say that La Casa definitely takes the cake. We ventured in for dinner the other night and my eyes immediately darted to the sign that said ".99 cent 10oz margaritas". Sign me up!! I even asked the waiter just to make sure I wasn't seeing things. He confirmed that they are indeed 99 cents and asked if I wanted one. I happily said, "POR FAVOR!" They weren't too busy and we were seated and received our drinks promptly. Their menu is big, but not overwhelming. I decided to forego the usual combo and go for something completely different for dinner. That's when I spotted the photo of the mocajete. The picture of it alone was so delicious that I wanted to eat the menu! We placed our order with the waiter (who spoke English just fine, btw) and waited for the deliciousness to come. While we waited I noticed all the decorative details in the restaurant. The interior is very colorful and was clearly put together with quite a bit of thought put into the design. Kudos for that! Finally, we spotted our food coming. I was salivating at the mere sight of it. The waiter laid my mocajete down on the table and they did not skimp on presentation nor portions. It was prepared in a stone bowl (that's where the word "mocajete" comes from) and was simmering with chicken, beef, shrimp and a medley of vegetables. The aroma was amazing!! It was accompanied by a plate of rice, beans and all the fixins. I took a bite and knew I had made a GREAT choice. It was delicious! The meat was tender and the veges added a nice layer of texture. The sauce itself was very flavorful and had a bit of a bite to it. What a great experience!! Two thumbs up for this place! On a side note, I saw someone made a comment about their waiter needing to learn English. Playing Devil's advocate here, how do you know he's not? He was probably trying his best to help you. As far as your basic mexican-american joints goes, this one is pretty good. Cheap food fast. The free tortilla chips and salsa are decent. The service is decent. I'm sure you know the type of restaurant - these styles of Mexican restaurants all taste the same and all the food is more or less the same regardless of your order. The plates are always piping hot because everything is pre-prepared and under heat lamps. No use detailing it. Even though nothing about La Casa's food sets it apart from other Mexican places it's always been of a good caliber and I've never had anything I'd consider "bad". It's getting 4-stars rather than an average 3 because this is my go-to place when I can't think of where to eat. As I said, nothing tastes amazing and nothing tastes bad, but it's always satisfying, fast, and cheap. read more
