Got a groupon (or was it Living Social?) for a 90 minute acupuncture + 60 minute massage package. I got a 60 minute massage for the fiancé. The acupuncture with Hamid was okay. I think he was a bit at a loss with what to do with me b/c to be honest, I'm fit as a horse and in excellent shape. Okay, not really - but my biggest ailments are cold hands, cold feet and being hungry all the time. I really didn't give him a lot to work with. He was professional and courteous and if I did have problems, I would visit him more regularly - but it's hard to fix what isn't really broken. I had a massage with Pom who was great. He combined techniques of Thai massage which incorporates some stretching which was just what my achy muscles needed! He was also sensitive to applying the right pressure. I later tried to do similar stretches on the fiancé but only made him wince in pain. Location is a bit out in the middle of nowhere - but there is plenty of parking and despite being in a business park - the rooms are still made to feel serene and cozy. I finally checked out Body Techniques though I've known about it for awhile. Sometimes it just takes a Groupon to get you in the door. And I had a hard time finding the door because there's no signage; the spa/fitness center is located in a big office building. I walked past 3-4 sets of doors but most of them were closed with weird signs seeming to communicate that the building was vacant. At least I wasn't late for my facial. I was warmly greeted and led to a reception area with massage chairs...better massage chairs than you find at nail salons. Tammy met me and brought me to another converted office space where the skincare is done. It was a nice large room; I've had facials done in spaces that were more like closets. I guess that's the advantage of having a mixed use facility. The facial was great. At a certain point Tammy treated me to a foot massage; she's both an esthetician and massage therapist. The products she used were organic, pleasant-smelling, and definitely gave my skin a refreshed look. No one was available to answer my questions after the facial -- questions about membership -- though I found a flyer that seems to communicate the various monthly charges and options available. Not sure if I'll become a member but I'll definitely return for the facial. read more

I'm a huge fan. This calls for a total rewrite of my previous reviews. I promise I'll make this as short as possible. Summary: customer service, certified therapists, great massages, good prices, and customer service My fiancee and I went to Body Techniques a few weeks back. We've been here before, but this time, we opted to try the intern massage program. At $38 for an hour massage, it was a deal we couldn't try passing up. Unfortunately, since Body Techniques can't fully control the quality of the interns (and since they are still getting their certification), the massage wasn't up to snuff. It basically felt like a body rub. Our problem wasn't with her technique (which we expected to be off a bit), but the fact that she didn't care and put no effort into it. We didn't even get the full hour with her. We were really disappointed, especially considering it's about a 2 hour round trip drive for us to get here from the South Bay. Austin, the owner, reached out to us about our experience. I was surprised to receive a message from him, especially given we didn't formally complain or anything. He heard we were unhappy, listened to what had happened, and offered to rectify the situation with makeup massages. My fiancee and I were literally shocked. Being small business owners, we offered to pay the difference for the original service we had wanted (the couple's massage), which Austin graciously agreed to. We weren't looking for a free ride. My finacee and I went back this past weekend. WOW. Our two therapists were wonderful. We had a full hour each, and my massage actually felt much longer. She hit the right pressure points, and I was completely relaxed and comfortable. My finacee admitted she fell asleep during parts of it (but could still feel the massage). My only suggestion would be that Body Techniques let their customers know about the intern program. To be fair, the name of the program should be a pretty good indication that the quality may not be fantastic, but I think it's important people know the potential range of their interns. Body Techniques is not a full spa. Because of this, they have great prices. The environment is still nice when you're in the rooms. If you want a great massage, this is your place. You're not paying for all the extras of a spa (which I personally don't use). Their waiting room has water and a nice selection of calming teas as well. I highly recommend coming here for a massage. Their certified therapists offer a huge array of various services (even pre-natal massages as I learned this past weekend). It's worth the 2 hour drive, and we're definitely going back again. read more

I was in a hit and run accident a week or so ago, which left my body sore and my shoulders super tense. I found a Groupon for a massage at Body Techniques and booked an appointment for an hour long trigger-point therapy massage with Mike-H. Best decision I ever made! Mike-H was very nice, greeted me and gave me time to get ready. She asked questions on what happened, expressed concern and assured me she'd do her best. She definitely did not disappoint! She worked out so many of my knots, which was no easy feat especially considering that I'm also ticklish. She did an amazing job, made sure to keep me hydrated afterwards and I left feeling so relaxed. The only bad thing about this place is that it's hard to find. A plus is that there's no shortage of (free!) parking spaces. I definitely recommend Body Techniques! read more

This place has gone downhill. I blame the manager kamoni. I've been going to this place for massages for over 20 years and watched the management ruin the vibe. Katrina F was great. But since they hired kamoni, the place has gone downhill. Too bad, because the massage therapists are great. They called me less than an hour before the time I was scheduled for a massage and CANCELED!!! I was really mad and yelled at them. One other time a similar incident happened and I requested a call back. Never heard from them. In a week Kamoni finally called and she was unprofessional, defensive and full of herself. Based on these two unpleasant incidents, kamoni alone decided to cancel my long time membership and affiliation with this business. Note: this is a unilateral decision WITHOUT ever having a conversation with me or reaching out to work out any compromise. They did this without ever hearing my side of the story whereas in the first place they canceled last minute. They were in the wrong and never even attempted to make it right. Instead they counter attacked using my volatile response as the reason to cancel my entire membership and bar me from their establishment. So first they wronged me by canceling last minute. Then they made it much worse by banning me from their business based on my reaction to their cancelation. This is no way to run a business. Whatever happened to "the customer is always right"? DO NOT, and I repeat DO NOT patronize this place. The management, basically Kamoni, ruins the business and will drive it out of business eventually with the inefficient selfish way of handling conflicts. I feel sorry for the wonderful massage therapists who work there. read more

My partner got me a massage appointment via Groupon. I was suffering from back injury that lasted over 3 months. I went to several massage places for remedy besides Physical Therapy. Honestly, I only got a true relief from the pain from them. I got a deep tissue massage and her touch was soooo relaxing and intentional. It was meditative. She definitely knew what she was doing! I am so thankful for the experience of pain relief that three other massage places could not achieve and give to me. read more

UPDATE: 3/4/08 So I ran the Napa Valley Marathon 2 days ago (and was offerred a discounted 2nd chance here, the following day). Norbita took care of my very sore post marathon body with a deep tissue/sports massage. She offerred many great tips and was very good. I'm ready to begin 4 weeks of recovery training so that I can be back on track to run marathon number 4 sometime in the autumn. Compared to night-time, Body Techniques is a much easier place to find in the day time where you can see the building number in the upper right corner. I'd recommend day time appointments over night-time. Although I'm not 100% certain that I'll come here again, I'd consider this place and left yesterday with a better feeling than my first visit. Kudos to the Body Techniques team for their committment. Yesterday's massage was better than average. My quads are almost completely healed. I'll know more tomorrow when I hit the track. I'll give them an extra star for being proactive and for taking care of me yesterday. I may try a few other places for reference. It's good when you yelp not the most positive things about a place and the president of the company contacts you to offer a 2nd chance to show he cares and his staff follows thru nicely. Kathy the person who massaged me was courteous, interesting, and provided many helpful tips. Overall the massage wasn't bad. I've had much better, but none the less, I enjoyed it. I felt slightly short changed on the "90 minute" massage I paid for. It was more like 75 or 80 minutes. Although I was fairly impressed with my massager's knowledge, I couldn't believe she didn't notice my deformed fractured right picky. Ok, I'm not gonna be that picky but I must also point out: the rate structure is too confusing. If they just charge a flat rate, it's much easier to process. My brain is still de-coagulating over what a $20 monthly membership entitles me to. Rule number one in the practice of the good capitalism: make things easy for the customer to comprehend. Life's already too complicated to be forced into figuring out math equations. Usually when there's complexities in a product, there's usually a hidden catch (if you've ever opened a Wells Fargo Checking Account you surely know what I am talking about). For my massage, I paid $95 (which includes a generous tip) for an 80 minute, deep tissue, swedish massage. That's with a $10 discount. But with a $20 membership.....urgh. See? My temple is starting to pulsate. I think I'll just rub my temple by myself which is free of charge. One final issue, finding the place at night is very challenging. The southern part of Alameda's Harbour Bay Peninsula is without lights so that incoming air traffic doesn't mistaken the streets of Alameda as a landing spot. Because of the darkness and isolation at night, that is in itself, another concern of this place. read more

I really wish I had enjoyed the services themselves more, because everyone here was lovely. From booking on the phone, to front desk, to my aesthetision and massage therapist, everyone was welcoming and nice. However, the services themselves fell shert of my expectations. I got the Groupon facial and massage deal. I specified on the phone that I wanted shiatsu, and the receptionist double checked to make sure that my therapist knew how to do that. So I arrived and was whisked away to my facial. Again, my aesthetision was a lovely person who I genuinely liked, but some of the advice she gave me was faulty and today (the next day) my skin looks worse. I've had intense extraction facials before so I know what to expect from them, but in this case I actually have some zits and inflammation I didn't have before. Then there was some confusion because they thought I was just there for the facial. When I was set up with my therapist, I reminded her that I requested shiatsu and she looked surprised. She said that she hadn't done shiatsu before, but knew how to do it. She was incredibly kind so I went for it, and while the massage was really deep, it was definitely not a shiatsu massage. I felt ok after the massage and again, really appreciated her kindness, but was disappointed that I didn't get shiatsu. Everyone who works here is a contractor, and I'm not sure how the turnaround is - my massage therapist mentioned that she'd been with the company for months. Overall, I'd be very upset if I had paid full price. Since it was Groupon, and because everyone was so kind, I'm chalking it up as a lesson learned and moving on. read more

The office environment is a little odd at first, but it's totally fine. My experience was positive. We took advantage of the Yelp deal and had a deep tissue with Norlisha and acupressure (?) with Sunny. Mine was great: good communication and not too much, right amount of pressure, received advice on health, kind and friendly Staff. The other massage was received by my daughter was equally good as she said she fell a sleep for a shorty time. I would recommend this place. The only reason why they don't get an A is the early withdrawal of my funds which were supposed to be held in order to hold hold the reservation. Want to feel even more frustrated than you before you set aside time in your day for that massage you really needed? That's what you get with Body Techniques. I cannot speak of the quality of the massage therapists, because I did not get to actually get a massage when I went there, so this is not about them. The customer service and the way the business is set up are horrible - think of at least 3 barriers to actually relaxing and that's what Body Techniques has. First of all, the place is very difficult to find. It's located in an office building complex in the middle of nowhere. Once in the complex, I got lost searching for the office number. There's no clear signage of where to go so you end up going through a maze of offices that all look the same until you finally get to the correct suite. Poor atmosphere, in my opinion. I bought a groupon to try this place out. There are 4 important restrictions on the massage services you can get that might actually make you think twice about buying the deal. Only 2 of these are in the fine print and one isn't that clear. In order to use the groupon, you have to call, not book online (talk about not getting with the program!) because these fools cannot update their website to make it clear that only certain massage therapists actually accept the groupon. There are also restrictions as to the type of massage you can get and the days of the week you can get it. If any of these were actually clearly delineated, then the customer could make an informed decision to go with this place. Instead, it was a waste of time for me, and left me more frustrated than before I walked in. A huge part the premium on body work services is the experience. If you don't have that, then what is the point? read more

On 11/24/17, Kristian with the front desk followed up asking how my experience could be improved next time. I had done a separate survey for them. I gave them the same details, as mentioned in my Yelp review. I said simply, that it would be nice if I could get the service I paid and requested. And I was so forward as to ask for a credit for a future visit. I did not receive a response. They are quick to collect your money, take your credit card info to hold appointments, to cover themselves of course. However, as a client, you are out of luck paying the full cost for barely a massage. I would have gotten more out of a $20 chair massage elsewhere. This place is pretty good. My boo and I came here after she found the discount and advertisement on yelp. I like how it's not like a spa, but a get down to business massage joint. I really don't need a fancy spa, relaxing environment, but I just want the crap (knots, tight muscles) beat and kneaded out of me. It was kinda weird trying to locate this place. You have to drive through the airport to get here, and it's located in some random office park. I don't mind that at all if it saves me a few bucks on the massage. It was also pretty cool of them for booking us on really short notice. We called on Sunday and were worried we couldn't go there because yelp had another deal at Playland not at the beach. But BT just gave us some times and we zoomed up from El Cerritos down to Alameda to get our massages. We didn't want to wait a few days to get these massages -we'd probably forget about it. Anyways, they put us both in the same room. Apparently couples massages usually cost more, but for us, we were charged the standard rate. The room we got was pretty small and we were pretty close that we were able to hold hands if we wanted to. My boo really loved that. It was a good massage and I felt relaxed and loose. I had Surya as my masseuse today. She's such a sweet girl and wonderful to chat with (if you're into having a conversation during your massage). We chat about everything, like I would with a good friend. Surya is so skilled with her hands. She did an excellent job at working out my knots -- and I had lots. My favorite part of massage was when she used the flat part of their fore arm and smooth it across my back. It feels like having a rolling pin on my back lol. Surya is a Godsend. My boyfriend and I scheduled an appointment for a 1 hour massage. We had very different needs, and both left incredibly satisfied. I work a job that requires a lot of lifting(i am a preschool teacher) and he works an office job with a lot of sitting. My therapist was Kern. He asked me about how I was feeling and explained that my back always hurts. I was looking for more of a deep tissue massage, I like more pressure, and to focus on my back. He was amazing!!!I realized half way into my session that this was lifechanging for me. I just felt like I got up and was working with a different body. I was so tense. He helped me to open up my hips too. I swear i felt two inches taller. I will definitely be back regularly. I went into Body Techniques yesterday and was impressed with the facilities and ambience. Each room is unique and lovely. They all smell good despite having carpet!! (I guess no oil is used.) When you arrive at Body Techniques, you may think you're lost. It's located in the middle of an office building. But once you walk through the door, you feel like you've been transported to a fancy spa in a resort. I had a 90 minute swedish massage from Karla. She continuously checked to make sure the pressure wasn't too much but I wanted to get the knots out of my muscles so I let her go to town on them. It was the best massage I've ever had. Besides my poor experience with the front desk, my massage and facial were great! Cliff and Jennifer took care of me and really made my experience great. On the downside, I was not impressed by the front desk whatsoever. I had bought the Groupon to try this place out and booked my appt two weeks in advance. Since the Groupon was only eligible Monday through Thursday, I had to schedule it on Tuesday and request a half day from work. I received a phone call the day of my appt on Tuesday and said they couldn't see me because the woman I was scheduled with quit. Definitely a red flag. Not sure if the woman quit that day or they barely called me until a few hours until my appt, but either way they didn't offer anything for the inconvenience. They scheduled me on a Saturday because I said I was not going to request another half day from work. When I came in on Saturday, Cliff told me that they only had me for an hour massage and no facial. Cliff could definitely read my facial expression and she went to go see what she could do and she came back saying everything was fine and they fit me in for my facial. The minus 1 star is not for Cliff and Jennifer, it's for the front desk. read more

Yikes, maybe it was a rarity (especially after seeing so many good reviews) but it was a very low quality massage. The appointment was for a deep tissue and it was a so/so Swedish, at best. Very little to no deep (or even mild) tissue work at all -- which is what I so very much wanted and signed up for. I'm a mama of two little ones and really looked forward to this for relief and restoration. I didn't get that at all :( Big disappointment. I hope others can have a better experience. My first massage after two years of COVID. Got a Groupon. Great place; the room is very clean, seems to be disinfected, quiet, private, tranquil + plenty of parking. My massage therapist was Midori - excellent deep tissue massage. They seemed to be limiting Groupon appointments; I was able to get one within two weeks due to today being a holiday; otherwise I would've had to wait longer than 2 months for a weekend or late pm workday appointment, if using Groupon. read more
