I just came back from Body Techniques (thanks to the Yelp deal of the day) and I will definitely be coming back. It's totally in the middle of nowhere and pretty deep in Alameda, but its so worth the trip. I got a one hour swedish massage from Dori and it was amazing! She used the perfect amount of pressure and occasionally checked to see if I wanted more or less. I told her I was feeling tight in my shoulders and back and she offered to focus on those areas instead of a full body massage. She worked on my neck/shoulders and back for half of the session and then asked me if I had changed my mind and would like her to continue with the rest of my body, so nice of her! Nice relaxing rooms, great service and helpful front desk. This place is a keeper! read more

I got a deal from Yelp so I am not sure what the regular price is, but if you are just looking for a massage this would probably get the work done. But if you are looking to relax, then I've had better. I took my boyfriend here and we both got the Swedish massage. I had called in a day before and requested for a couples massage, but they couldn't accommodate that because the couples rooms were full. Okay, no biggy. My massage was decent, he asked me what my troubled spots were and he tried to focus on that. I asked for light to medium pressure, he was a bit too gentle at the beginning so I told him he could use a bit more pressure. But at some point I wanted to scream, cause he was crushing me just a little bit! But I didn't want to say anything anymore so it was partly my fault. The ambiance was okay, they have the light music playing in the background (which skipped once), no relaxing aroma probably to keep from irritating any particular customer. My boyfriend came out saying that his was a pretty rough massage too. Was not my most relaxing massage, but like I said, if you are just looking for a massage to get rid of some sore muscles etc., this would probably get the job done. read more

I love the classes that I bought off groupon! 10 classes for 45 days ($39). Other options are availble. The schedule for some of the classes are tough to go to especially for the 9-5 bump and grind folks. But I have fallen in love with the yoga instructor Sage. I have gone to 3 of her yoga classes. Attend her classes if you want to learn to love yourself a little more than you already do. Strength and stretch, Viniyoga and Relax and restoration. Who said yoga doesn't make you break a sweat? Make good choices! You just have to choose which type of yoga you're interested in. Viniyoga is a heart opening experience (exactly what that means) and I stretched the hell out of my body with this class. Relax and restoration was prefect to my stressful day, allowing a gentle energy to flow from me and connect back to the world. I know it might sound corny to some people, but this stuff really puts a smile to my face and relaxes my body and soul. I don't want wrinkles from frowning often! There is a boot camp circuit that is killer too if you aren't interested in the yoga as well as a prenatal class for the mamas to be. The only thing I have to gripe about is that there have been a few times I tried to call in to schedule myself into classes, I didn't get connected to anyone, but drop ins are welcome and I have no problems when I swing by. read more

Finally discovered my new favorite masseuse LIZ after a long search since Amber went on leave! Liz took her time to work out every single knot on my body and was straight forward about her techniques or what she refers as "search and destroy" (knots that causes discomforts or pains) mission. If you are looking for FIRM deep tissue massage and want to work out all the stubborn knots in your shoulder and back area, she is the one! Even if that means being sore the next day it's all well worth it. I give credit where credit is due, and Liz has definitely won me over with her healing hands and upbeat personality. To start off Teliah is awesome! It was my first professional massage and I will be coming back! Teliah is very nice and considerate of your needs. She provided me with tips after to help me relieve some of my stress and loosen up my muscles. She's also very knowledgeable and passionate into what she does. She's also very funny and knows how get your mind off of the pressure (breathe through it). I would definitely recommend her to someone else! The outside isn't what you'd think it would be. Their office is located in the office spaces near the Oakland airport, and theres not really any signs directing you where to go or what part of the building it is in until you get in and look at a map. Found Body Techniques through Yelp reviews. I originally had an appointment scheduled with Mindful Touch (in SF also on Yelp as well) the evening before. However, Mindful Touch cancelled my appointment 1 hour prior to it. Since I was upset I called Body Techniques hoping to get an appointment as soon as possible. The guy who answered the phone was VERY accomodating and was able to scheduled an appointment for me at 6:30PM on a Friday. I was very please knowing I was able to book an appointment on such short notice. I had the first time client special @ $49 for a Swedish massage. I'm content and plan on coming back here and giving referrals. Location is not too bad but maybe hard to find for some people. The ambience in the room was very relaxing. I love the music they had in the background plus the automatic warm bed. I will definitely come back. read more

OMG......... I have to say this was as good as it gets......! I was there yesterday for my first time. I got an email from Yelp with their deal of the day _ $39 for an hour massage which is usually $69....can't beat that. I figured if it wasn't as good as all the reviews I read, I didn't lose out on much. But I tell you, it was worth every penny. Parking was great because they have a huge lot but I don't know how it would be during the weekdays when other businesses are open and working. It could be difficult to to find but if you find the Raiders corporate office, it's just across the street. The entrance is not on Harbor Bay but S. Loop. So turn down S. Loop, Raiders is then on your left and Body Techniques is on your right. The front desk gentleman was very nice and welcoming. Marisa did my massage and she has very strong hands. She gave me a deep tissue massage and she found my trouble areas in my neck and shoulders. I've tried many different massage therapist but very few make me feel like gumby when they are done. Marisa is one of them and that's a good thing because that means she got in and helped release a lot of the toxins in my muscles giving me my grief and allowing them to relax again. WAY TO GO MARISA! I asked her about the different techniques they offer and she was knowledgeable - it's nice when staff can explain what's being offered even if they aren't the ones working each style. I'm very interested in the Thai massage - learning how to do stretches one on one and getting trouble areas massaged...... I think that sounds great. Having a bad back and neck, I try to find stretches to do but I don't feel like they are doing what I need or that I'm doing them wrong....so Thai massage, here I come. Another thing I like is that they are open 7 days a week. I don't live in the immediate area and to drive down there during the weekdays after work - that doesn't sound like a good time. But after a weeks work and going there on a Saturday or Sunday - that sounds like the right ticket. Sure there are places I could go to closer to home but if the results aren't the same as I got yesterday and the prices are higher....you figure it out. I highly recommend that you give them a try! Nice facilities, friendly check in, professional and relaxing ambience was perfect. Karla is the strongest woman I have ever encountered. She was very sweet and made me feel instantly comfortable. I got a 60 minute deep tissue massage and she was very strong. She communicated frequently making sure the pressure was just right--who knew that could tickle? Her knowledge of anatomy made the massage fluid and highly efficient--she got to all the tension I had, some of which I didn't know about. She gave me the best massage of my life and I am so impressed and relaxed. This was my first massage here, I booked online and didn't get a discount until I paid after the massage--another pleasant surprise. Kyle gave the best massage I've had in years, I get a few per year for reference. Kudos to her, hopefully the rest of the staff does well too. I also didn't get hassled for using a Groupon deal which is nice. Their system for reservations is easy to use and makes for easy reminders/confirmations. I would have given 5 stars if the receptionist had created more of an experience (she may be a manager and/or owner?). She wasn't particularly friendly or professional to the people in the waiting room and talked to the rest of therapists nonstop about how sick she's been for weeks and other personal things that us customers didn't need to hear. The therapists didn't seems to care about hearing these things either as they came in to greet their customers, so this isn't pointed at them. They just seemed to play along. Offer some water, ask how my day is going...heck, even try to upsell me. Maybe it was just an off day due to he ongoing illness. I will be booking here again for my next massage. read more

My husband and I had a couples massage. I tried the hot stones for the first time and my husband had shiatsu. I found out that I was alot more sensitive to the hot stones and she was very attentive to adjusting their temperature for me. Her fingers were incredibly strong! You won't ever complain about not enough pressure here. These people massage the Oakland Raiders! It was really great getting a really deep massage. My husband often says he can't get a massage because he's completely ticklish. We were in the joint massage room and I didn't hear a peep out of him. He had one of the best massages ever! I learned about this place during a healthy fair they participated near my work place. It's definitely a hidden gem inside a business park. So close to work, makes me want to go here more. I bought a groupon for the facial deal and had Nicky as my esthetician. She was very friendly and explained every step of the way. The touch was gentle and very professional. I left there feeling really refreshed! It's a bit hard to find, even though I work in the business park. After I found the building, it took me a while to find the suite number. Body Techniques is such an amazing find and a gem!! They have some of the best massage therapist I have ever had and at a reasonable price. You can get deal right here on Yelp. I highly recommend Caitlyn, Nick, Dawn, or Angel. They are all amazing, intuitive, and listen to what you need. Most recently I saw Caitlyn and I have to admit it was in the top 5 massages I have ever gotten. She has a deep understand of muscular skeletal structure and could gauge when and where to apply pressure. In addition her attend to detail was on point. Don't be alarmed when you walk into office building to get your services. Definitely try the yoga, acupuncture, facial with Kate, and massage. Also, they accept spa finder and often have living social coupons available for the yoga class. read more

I've never had a more awful customer service experience and can see why this company needs Groupon to get people to come to them. 1. Location, Location! - Body Techniques is conveniently located in the bowels of an 'Office-Space' style soulless, fluorescent, concrete building just a stone's throw away from the oakland airport. There's nothing more relaxing than driving 40 minutes to a back-lot office building with the screams of constant passenger airplanes flying directly overhead as ambient noise. 2. Experience - I bought two groupons for this business (facial and massage). My first appointment was the facial (my esthetician was wonderful and sweet - I don't want to associate her with this business or my experience). After the facial my esthetician told me she'd send me home with 'Free Samples' and gave me 4 little bottles to take home and try out. I went to reception to tip her (since I had already paid through Groupon). "That's 5 dollars for the samples" - The receptionist says. "I'm sorry, what? She gave these to me to try as samples" I say. "Yeah they're a dollar each" she says. "That's not how a sample works - She told me they were free". "Well I'm sorry about that, it's 5 dollars" - Receptionist. I gave the samples back, but Body Techniques, that's not how 'Free Samples' works - That's not how any of this works...And it certainly isn't a great experience to be handled free samples and then told I had to pay for them. 3. Customer Service - I booked my massage for a Wednesday and then had to reschedule after realizing how far the location was from society. I asked for a weekend date, as I work until 5:30 and can't make their latest appointment on a weekday. At this point I was told that Groupon Massages could only be booked Monday-Thursday. "Where does it say that?" I say "It's in the fine print" - The receptionist replies. Firstly, any company that says the words "It's in the fine print" is not a company I want to touch my bare skin. Secondly, a customer-service based health clinic, which prides itself in healing/relaxing the body should not also participate in shady business practices like trying to charge for "free samples" and has arbitrary booking stipulations only mentioned in the "fine print". When I told the woman on the phone what a terrible experience I've had so far and that I'd contact groupon to let them know she said "You go do that then" and hung up on me mid-sentence. I'm not the type of person to write angry reviews and coming from the service industry, am understanding and sympathetic to others in a hospitality role - But seriously, don't go here to try and relax. Their representatives are terrible and treat you like an idiot for not reading "fine print", they try to charge you for free samples, this location is abysmal, and finally/most importantly, I've left Body techniques feeling more stressed out and with more anxiety than I had - Which was WHY I booked a massage in the first place. This review is for the business itself, not the massage therapists. I've been a loyal customer for many years. They are pricey, but I've always gotten a good massage. I just received an email that prices are going up AGAIN. $99 for a 1 hr massage is outrageous and unaffordable to most. Even for Bay Area standards this is just too much. I'm sure they will still have rich clients, but for the average person it's just not realistic. I have several coworkers and family members who also said they can no longer afford these greedy prices. They don't care about their clients, they only care about their bottom line and that's unfortunate as it is supposed be a place of healing. read more

What a great value! I've paid almost twice as much at other places to get the same results. I had an hour Swedish massage from Amber and it was great. She worked out the knots in my neck and back, and I didn't even have to ask for more pressure. (Usually, massage therapists assume I can't take a hearty massage because I'm small.) The ambiance was better than what I pictured based on other reviews, and because it's in an office building. The massage room was similar to a room in a spa, with low light and classical music playing. The table was also covered with linens, unlike what is shown in the photos in the Yelp listing. Only negative was there is no receptionist/front desk, which threw me off me a little bit when I walked in. The massage therapists see clients walk in from offices at the end of the hallway, and then they attend to you right away. Anyway, I'll be back for sure! read more

I've been going to Body Techniques for several months now; first as an indulgence pampering for the the holidays, then as a therapeutic relief on top of just great relaxation. I have mostly worked with MikeH and we have moved from standard 60 minute Swedish Massage to 90 minute deep tissue massages. I have been dealing with a tough case of sciatica from 30 mile daily commutes and sports injuries, and MikeH's style has been great. She tends to find the "hot spots" on my body and will apply steady pressure until the soreness or tightness releases, and this is just what a person who needs to feel results needs. My wife and I have been going for couples massages in adjoining rooms where she gets her Swedish and I get my Deep Tissue, and it has been a great and worthwhile experience. The tone is relaxing and the atmosphere is serene and light with engaged conversation if desired. We are about to get another 90 minute couples session right before taking a Trans-Atlantic flight. Scheduling won't allow me to have MikeH this time, but in all the time I have gone here I've never had a less than excellent experience with any of the staff, so I am sure I will be ready for the challenges of a 12 hours air flight. As previous reviewer mentioned, it is not your fluffy spa. It is efficient, room is clean, nice. Front desk and staff is courteous. My deep tissue massage was a OK. The therapist used too much lotion/oil and so the strokes were mostly gliding over tissues. As mentioned in previous reviews, its location is not downtown Alameda. It is further south in an industrial business park. Follow the instructions given by the front desk, and allow time for/if you get lost. read more

Awesome staff, location and service always. My wife signed me up for the monthly program including an hour massage. Mikeh G has been my regular MT since the start of the year and she's great and awesome to catch up with. I really look forward to the massage every time and Mikeh will adjust to whatever needs work. I play basketball regularly and have Achilles Tendonitis. She focuses on the calves and lower area and it helps quite a bit. Also, provide some great advice for prevention. Never had a facial before, but should i be leaving with a scar??? Got a groupon for a massage & facial for about $72. Had i known 30 mins of the facial was a light upper body massage, i would have told the massage therapist to concentrate on my lower body. My appts were for 2p & 3:15p. I was assigned to Mary for the massage & Kate for the facial. (It was my first time and I had no preference of masseuse or esthetician.) I arrived 10 mins late. Mary happened to come to the lobby area when i walked in, and said she would work into her break to accommodate my lateness. Cool. Good thing they scheduled the appts with a little grace period too!! She asked what kind of massage i wanted. I told her my ailments and let her decide. She told me to get undressed to my comfort level, then get under the sheets. I decided against taking off my bra. I'd be more comfortable with it on. But when she walked back in, she told me to take it off! Lol. (I thought i had a choice?) But ok. I'm glad I did!! ... The massage table had a warmer which was great. The massage itself was great. She massaged everything I expected, including chest and buttocks. Chest was worked in as she was massaging my shoulders while laying on my stomach. Booty was done from the side, so it was completely non invasive. The facial, i could have gone without. It felt like she washed my face & wiped it. Squeezed the shit outta my temple area. Then put lotion on my face & some bomb ass balm on my lips. She very lightly massaged my face; jaw muscles & cheek area which was great also. But as stated, I left with a scar. :( read more
