We were staying at the Great Neck Hotel this week for Thanksgiving and decided to try this place for breakfast this morning. We arrived around 9:15 and there was a line of about ten people ahead of us. The line was very slow moving but we were very patient. Once we got to the front of the line an older bald employee asked me what I wanted. I told him an everything bagel sandwich with eggs and cheese. He grabbed my bagel and went into the back. While he was gone I told another employee I also needed a medium coffee. When the older bald employee returned he was very angry that someone else got my coffee. He was also annoyed that my daughter's order was taken by a different employee. Clearly, customer service is not a first priority here. The bagels were decent, though I've had better. Ordered an "everything" bagel and it was pretty sparse as far as toppings go. The cream cheese and lox was fresh. Coffee was good. Service was a bit slow, with the standard New York attitude. Pricing is reasonable for the area. Would I go out of my way to go here? I don't know how I have never reviewed Bear Bagels. I've been searching for bagels that beat Best Bagels for 20 years now and nowhere comes close. They're so puffy and fresh and perfect. Their everything bagels feel like home to me. I love the sesame ones too. Their whitefish is also not too saucy or mayo-y. It's seriously worth it. They have a couple tables outside and inside. I like the bagels here and the Super Nova spread is excellent but very expensive at $20 a pound. There is always a line in here everytime I go in. Cold cuts are also very pricey: $15 a pound for regular Boars Head cold cuts when other bagel stores charge $8 or $9.99 at the most. Seems excessive. Also no low carb bagel unlike other bagel stores. Also, kind of disorganized with the online orders, had to wait longer than the people on line. read more

They said I had to email or place order online. Picked up about an hour and a half later and they only had 9 of the bagels I wanted. They could have called me but did not. During the current crisis, I've been trying several bagel shops around town that delivers. Best Bagels is a shop that's right on Middle Neck Road and one that I've never tried. I found that they are open early morning on my app where I order. I went ahead and purchased a dozen along with a small order of belly lox and egg salad. The bagels that I bought were all nice and puffy and had that nice sheen and crust that good bagels have. After eating a perfectly browned garlic bagel, I would have to have their bagels a solid 7 on a 10 scale. It had a very nice chewiness. To my taste, I like extremely chewy, almost gummy bagels with a crusty outer shell. For most people Best Bagel's chewiness would be excellent. As for the egg salad and belly lox, the egg salad was done just right. The belly lox was sliced paper thin, which is exactly what I would expect from a skilled bagelry. All in all, having Best Bagels open in this time of crisis is really heartening in my book. They're really serving a need for the neighborhood so kudos to them! read more

Stood in line behind 2 parties for 30+ minutes and they always to mess up my order...missing tomato or wrong cheese type, asking me to repeat the order multiple times while I'm waiting. Nova wasn't great and our $4 macaroni salad was not fresh at all so we threw it away. (Sides are supposed to be included in bagel sandwich price) I saw a worker come out from the back kitchen into the store to restock the fridge with NO MASK. Did we just forget NY state mandated emergency health regulations for phase reopening of restaurants and businesses during a pandemic? On a side note I got a parking ticket right outside the store since my 2-bagel order took so long that my meter expired. My family and I have been coming here for years and years. We never leave Great Neck without getting a bunch of flagels. The white fish and the sable are also good -- though the price is on the higher side of life. They are attuned to quality and want to help you get in and get out as quickly as possible. There's lots of room to sit and it's in the middle of town so the location is great. Park in the lot behind the store and enter through the back entrance if there's no parking on Middle Neck Road. If you walk in close to closing time, they often give you bakery items for free. They make them fresh every day so anything leftover is a gift! My mom and my favorite bagel shop! Every time we go here, we always get their sunflower flat bagel. You can even ask for their specials on bagels (ex. BLT). I love their sunflower bagel so much, it makes regular bagels taste okay. I've had their regular plain bagel once before and it was just like any other bagel to be honest. We always come on the weekends and the line is usually almost at the door. The service isn't very fast though, sometimes I wind up waiting on line for 15-20 minutes. Also, the deliciousness of your bagel depends on the worker. Some workers make it kind of sloppy or lacking of the fillers, but some make it really packed and delicious. The price of the bagels are very fair to me. I always get a sunflower flat bagel with veggie cream cheese & a sunflower flat bagel BLT combo (comes with potato salad and a soda) to share with a medium coffee. It fills us up for only ~$16! Parking can be tricky on the weekends because the lot is shared with other stores. It's also municipal parking so you have to remember to pay the meter. read more
