Let me tell you why: I started going to K&M Automotive because that's where my parents always went (and paid for my car to go). I can't recall if they go because their friends with Keith, the owner, or because their friends because they go, but does that really matter? The real point is I still go to this business, years and years later, because the service is fantastic. Whenever there's been a problem with my good ole' mustang, I drive it up to the little shop overflowing with cars, and someone - Keith himself or his mechanics - comes and greets me despite how busy they are. I tell them what the problem is and they take a quick look at it right then and there. If it's something minor they'll fix it while I watch, or I leave it and it's fixed in a matter of days. The longest a repair has taken was three weeks - and that's because I had the whole transmission rebuilt. Other than that it's been three days tops depending on the repair. Whoever I work with on my visits to K&M is always straight forward with me. They'll tell me exactly what's going on with my car and exactly how much it's going to cost (not just the total, but down to how much for parts and shipping and man labor.) The costs have always been reasonable and I've never, ever felt like I've been price-gouged or taken advantage of in anyway. And even if I'm strapped for cash (transmissions aren't cheap), Keith is always willing to sit down and work something out with me. Straight-up and honest, exactly how I like it. But of course every place has it's cons. K&M's facility is a little garage on the outskirts of old downtown Wylie facing a railroad track. It's not the easiest place to find for the non-local, and there's hardly any room to drive down the street, let alone pull in and out of the business. Cars in the garage, cars in the drive-in, cars in the street, over the curb. It's a pretty cramped space. If you aren't a frequent customer like me, you'd be intimidated and wonder if they even had time for your business. And this place definitely doesn't look commercial, which I can see causing hesitation in some people. Of course these cons are purely cosmetic and really have nothing to do with the quality of service I have received. And frankly they are the only "cons" I can conceivably testify to. Hence the 5-Stars. I will trust K&M with my Mustang (and any car I have after that) as long as it's possible. After all, I still drive the car I got when I was sixteen and I'm sure that says more about the quality of care than my supernaturally good driving skills. I remember one case in particular where a traveling family from out of state pulled into their shops driveway in a car that was running extremely rough. I watched Mr Ogden raise the car hood look around a bit and them proceeded to make a repair. He removed the distributor cap applied so grease in a strategic location, reassembled everything and had the man start the car. It smoothed out and ran like a top. None of this was surprising for me to learn after my own experience there. I did see some negative reviews first, but I generally like to see things for myself, so despite the negative press, I went in and paid them a visit. It was a great experience throughout, from the time we walked in the door to the time we drove our car off the lot. It wasn't until a few days later that we realized they had actually switched vehicles on us! Same make, model, and color, but wrong VIN, higher mileage, and various mechanical and cosmetic defects that we didn't expect. Now, I truly believe that they did this by accident, and never held Joe responsible for this. However, the negotiations with the owner over how to make the situation right were horrendous, and make me question the whole experience and whether they were acting in good faith to begin with. (Basically, an established customer came in and offered $1,000 more for the car I was buying, and the dealership "made a mistake" and mixed up the vehicles and sent me home with a car whose VIN didn't match my purchase contract.) The owner agreed to cover the cost of low-quality repairs and would not offer any compensation for the vehicle's diminished value. They profited $1,000 from this mistake -- directly bringing in an extra $1,000 in revenue for the same vehicle -- but were not willing to spend anywhere near that on justifiable expenses to make the situation right. They could have satisfied me and still come out ahead of where they were before! Anyway, it was a terrible situation, and set us back many, many hours while resulting in significant headache. Hop on Google and search for "Dallas Roadster" and you'll see what these guys are really about. If you want to have some fun, search for Dallas Roadster FBI or Dallas Roadster DEA or Dallas Roadster Lawsuit. No one should be surprised that they would begin operating under a different name!
